I wish fan content creators would have the courage to keep the robot a robot when they ship them with a human character. This is especially a problem with more nonhumanoid robot characters!
Let the human learn how to cuddle with his AI’s car body!!
Let the robot learn how to make their human comfortable despite the fact that they were made for war!!
Let romantic partners reconcile their differences as a part of being in love!!!
KEEP *clap* THE *clap* ROBOT *clap* A *clap* ROBOT!

Can I talk about episode 9 of season 2 Soul Survivor???
There are clear parallels drawn between Micheal and Kitt and and the villain of the week and her tech-heavy partner. No, I’m not just reading into it too much. Here’s why.
The villain of the week is the older of the two. Her name and background is a mystery. She has no trace other than obvious experience she has in her field. She’s the veteran, the negotiator, the people person who’s calling the shots.
Her tech partner is the younger of the two. In fact, the age difference is significant. He’s the tech guy, subject to her command. He excels at all of the technical tasks assigned to him but doesn’t really act on his own because he doesn’t have that kind of experience to guide him.
Compare and contrast this with Micheal and Kitt. It couldn’t be more obvious that the villain is a direct foil to Micheal and her partner a foil to Kitt. Micheal, the veteran in the field with a shady past. Kitt, the technical expert and subordinate to Micheal’s command.
Now let’s look at how the two sets of partners treat each other. Throughout the episode, the villain is seen cajoling her partner, pretending to like him to get him to do what he wants, but that’s it. There’s no other feelings there. To her, he is a tool, nothing more. A means to an end, that end being her mission.
Compare this directly to how Micheal treats Kitt during the episode. In this episode, all of Kitt’s capabilities, every single one of them, has been taken away. All that’s left is Kitt as a person. And Kitt is incredibly insecure about this! And how does Micheal respond? By treating him with compassion that’s enough to get the tears flowing. He comforts his partner. He reassures Kitt that he values him as a person above all else while also still acknowledging that while Kitt’s usual utility is useful and appreciated, it doesn’t define their relationship.
There’s another point of deliberate contrast throughout the episode that makes me believe that this parallel was intentional by the part of the show writers. The villain of the episode is constantly shown deprecating her partner, calling him “little prince” and “smart boy”, and he’s clearly uncomfortable with it. Well, Micheal and Kitt also have a scene where Micheal tries to make a jokey prod at their situation. He says, “how’re you doing down there?” in a diminutive tone to Kitt, and Kitt shows the same kind of discomfort. Micheal immediately backs off, apologizes, and compliments his partner.
It really hits home just how much Micheal cares about Kitt. Not as an object, or as a tool for completing missions, but as a person.
God, I love this show.
#knight rider#micheal knight#kitt#micheal x kitt#literary foils? in my dumb 80s cartoon? it's more likely than you think!#this episode is probably my new favorite#can we call it the soulmate episode???#k.i.t.t.

I’M WHEEZING IMAGINE THIS IN KNIGHT RIDER
like, after Micheal retires, and of course he takes Kitt with him because they’re soulmates and they have this in the living room.
(Alternatively, if you self-ship, imagine this in your living room!)

No no, Lil Nas X needs to do a cover of Michael Bublé's version of Santa Baby that he called "Santa Buddy," but still as suggestive as Eartha Kitt first sang it
Listen I'll be honest, the first time I heard about Santa Buddy was after that post started going around. I've also heard Micheal Buble's name more in the past week than I have in my entire life before now

Are you ready to see my somewhat cringy Knight Rider soulmark AU????
Are you ready to rumble???? I wrote it as romantic but it could also work for platonic!! ---
A soulmate au where you have a brown birthmark on your body where your soulmate will first touch you when they are old enough to fall in love, and when your soulmate first touches you, the mark blossoms into a shimmery rainbow hue.
It's not unusual for kids to be born without a soul mark- the mark appears when the other soulmate is first born, so not getting your soul mark until you are a toddler or even a pretween isn't a sign of alarm (it just suggests an age difference). However, Micheal Long never got his soul mark. It never appeared. His parents took him to all sorts of medical places to scan his body for a soul mark, but one never appeared, even into his late teens. Eventually, he just kind of gave up. He fell in love and married someone else who never found their soulmate and was disillusioned with the whole system. At least with no soul mark, with no soulmate to disappoint, Micheal didn't feel bad about putting his life in danger. Then one day he gets shot out in the Nevada desert. . .
When Micheal Long wakes up as Micheal Knight, he finds not only that he has a new face, but something else as well. His hands are stained brown with soul mark. His palms up to his fingers, as if his first touch was to be grasping something. Micheal confronts Wilton Knight about it. "Why did you tattoo a fake soul mark on me?" But Wilton insists that he didn't. The marks appeared on their own.
In a nearby garage, Bonnie remarks that there is a discoloration on the steering wheel of the Knight Industries Two Thousand. Just a small imperfection in the leather. Not of any importance, and not worth delaying production to fix.
The plot progresses very similar to how the show progresses. Micheal Knight gets paired with Kitt and the two set off to right wrongs and to dole out justice. They don't even realize when they grow closer to each other. Soon they're talking like a pair of old souls during one of their long car rides to the next mission.
After several hours Micheal decides to let Kitt take over for a bit. As he removes his hands from the steering wheel, he sees a brilliant rainbow sheen, first on the steering wheel, then on his palms. Kitt actually gets distracted for once and has to pull off the road to recover from the shock.
And Kitt, poor Kitt, knows what a soul mark is but insists that the obvious isn't true. "Micheal, I can pull up surveillance details of all the previous young ladies whom you have touched in my vicinity to see which one triggered the mark," and "I'm checking information sources right now to see if soul mark sheen rubbing off on objects is a common occurrence".
Micheal stares at his palms and back to the steering wheel again, and absentmindedly tells Kitt to scan the "previous young ladies". Micheal never really liked any of the women, he just performed the romance cues partly out of curiosity if one of them would set off his soul marks, and partly out of expectation of the women themselves. It never felt right though. Not like. . .
"Kitt, I think it’s you."
Kitt is quick to reply. "Micheal, I'm an AI. I'm not real. Would you like me to continue my scan of the women?"
(And Kitt is hoping, hoping Micheal will say no, because really, he'd like to believe Micheal feels that way, he really would.)
"Quit the scan. I meant what I said. 'Soulmate sheen' or not, I love you anyway," Micheal says.
"Micheal, I don't think you quite know what this means. I'm a machine. I'm a car. I understand that humans can harbor fondness for their vehicles, but-"
"You're so much more than just a car, and this rainbow glitter on your steering wheel proves it." Micheal put one hand back on the wheel, remarking at how well the groove fit his hand.
"I. . ." Kitt trails off. (He never trails off. Why was he feeling this way? Why was he feeling at all? Okay, yes, he's always felt things despite his programmed nature, that being something he had stopped trying to deny, but what kind of emotion was this?)
"Do you love me, Kitt?"
"I. . . am. . . quite fond of you, yes."
And Micheal smiles, kisses his fingers, and taps them against Kitt's voicebox.
When Micheal and Kitt drive up to the semi for repairs, Kitt is nervous. What to say about the marks? (Micheal might be able to hide them, but Kitt certainly wouldn't, and Kitt is scared, scared of what Bonnie might think or how Devon would react-) But Micheal stands confident. He'll stand for their love, no matter what. His confidence gives Kitt enough confidence to drive into the semi.
Micheal gets out. Bonnie gives her usual banter, before glancing into the interior to see the sheen. Her mouth drops open.
"Bonnie, I can explain-" Kitt says (though he really can't explain.)
Micheal interrupts him with the declaration. "Kitt and I are soulmates."
Stunned silence. Micheal shows Bonnie his palms.
Bonnie utters, "that's impossible. This isn't a funny joke, Micheal."
"I'm not joking." Micheal stands in between her and Kitt, putting his hand on Kitt's roof. (Kitt doesn't understand. He's usually the one shielding Micheal, not the other way around.) "Right, Kitt?"
It takes all of Kitt's willpower to make his voice project above a whisper. "Bonnie, it's true."
And Kitt's soft words make Bonnie nearly tremble. Kitt, this AI she helped program- no, this being she helped to. . . create. Oh goodness. She wordlessly runs off to get Devon.
Devon steps into the garage portion of the semi and asks, "what seems to be the problem?"
"No problem. There's nothing wrong." Micheal isn't shy about displaying his palms.
Devon comes around the side of Kitt and glances inside. He then glances back to Micheal's palms. He looks between the two and a small smile appears on his lips.
"Kitt and I are soulmates, and if you have a problem with that, then I'm afraid we're going to have to renegotiate my contract with the Foundation." Micheal continues.
Devon chuckles, catching all off guard. After a moment, he simply asks, "When do you two want to plan the wedding?"
Micheal laughs out of surprise."Wait, what?"
"I said, when do you two wish to have the wedding, and where?" Devon smiles. "It's up to you, of course, and I'm sure the Foundation would help finance the courtship of two of its most prolific members."
The sigh of relief has swept throughout the garage at this point. Micheal laughs and taps Kitt's frame. Kitt opens his door and (lightly) taps Micheal's rear.
"Hold on, hold on," Bonnie interjects (and Kitt starts panicking again,) "I'm still not totally on board with this."
Micheal looks like he's about to throw hands as Bonnie pauses.
She turns to Kitt and points towards Micheal. "Just because he's your soulmate doesn't mean he has my instant approval. He's going to have to prove himself."
"But- Bonnie!" Micheal protests.
"No buts! I won't let Kitt be with just any man, especially not one as reckless as you!" Bonnie jabs at Micheal, but there's laughter in her tone.
"Bonnie, please, go easy on him." Kitt says.
She shakes her head. "Okay, I suppose it's alright."
From thereon out, things roughly return to normal. Micheal and Kitt were inseparable before, and they especially are now. Now, Micheal is a bit less romantic with the "young ladies" he saves, as he is not shy with showing his soul mark. It's a bit harder to explain with Kitt's marks, however. Whenever Kitt needs to hide his existence, Micheal has to make up a story about how he had the soul sheen painted on the steering wheel "to commemorate". He never likes it when he has to lie.
To the people they do "come out" to, reactions are mixed. Some people outright reject the idea ("A car? Really?") and others are simply weirded out ("Um, okay, neat. . ."). However, some people do accept them, and those people are the ones who are invited to the eventual wedding.

I’m sorry but Kitt asked Micheal for flowers. They’re legally married now.
A Native believes KITT is a God and praises him
KITT believes that he is related to The God Of The Wind, and of course Michael tells him he's not. But the part that made me chuckle was when KITT asked for Michael to give him some flowers sometime xD
I'd give him lots of flowers!
From the episode "Burial Ground"

Okay but Micheal x Kitt would have to start with so, so, so much mutual pining. They’d both be so deeply in love but utterly convinced that the other would never reciprocate.
Micheal be so afraid to confess because he’s not even sure Kitt can feel love. He doesn’t want to pressure Kitt into a one-sided relationship (which he knows Kitt would do to make him happy). He’s also worried about utter rejection or even scorn from the AI. He can already hear the imagined words, “Micheal, I know humans harbor fondness for their vehicles, but isn’t this going too far?” Worse yet, Micheal knows that Kitt has seen some of his. . . exploits with human women. Those were one-off flings, something stupid and fun, but he knows that Kitt never liked them. Could Kitt even respect him after all that?
And meanwhile, Kitt is having a total existential crisis. He was never designed to have any feelings. He’s not even sure if what he’s experiencing is feelings. He’s not a human, so how could he tell? Is it all fake? Is it just a natural result of the programming he has to protect Micheal? He doesn’t know, and as a result, he desperately tries not to think about it at all, pushing it to the back of his processor whenever it comes up. And of course, if he did confess, would Micheal think something was wrong with him? Would Micheal tell Bonnie? What would she think? She’d probably think he was broken. Is he actually broken? The thought terrifies him to the core.
#knight rider#micheal x kitt#micheal knight#kitt#god why hasn't anybody written the world's longest slow burn about these two i mean really#k.i.t.t.
