Well done FA, ECB take note
The #FA have set the benchmark, #ECB take note.
In sports, the fight against racism, with all due respect has been authorities throwing the proverbial grape in a fruit fight. Sport has been too slow to deal with racist issues and too lenient. Thankfully there have been instances where sport is trying to fight back. The sentencing of Scott McCluskey, the man who racially abused the Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, as…

"Pundits Scared Of Criticising India Over Fear Of Losing Work": Michael Vaughan
“Pundits Scared Of Criticising India Over Fear Of Losing Work”: Michael Vaughan

In yet another ICC tournament India’s campaign ended in heartbreak. This time by England as Jos Buttler and Co. handed the former champions a 10-wicket drubbing in the T20 World Cup semifinal in…

Singer Alma Cogan was born in Whitechapel on May 19 1932. She was dubbed the "Girl with the Giggle in Her Voice" and was the highest paid British female entertainer of the 1950s. But the UK musical revolution of the sixties symbolised by the rise of the Beatles, suddenly made Cogan unfashionable and her highest chart ranking in the UK during that time was no. 26 with "We Got Love". John Lennon once recalled that when he was a teenager, he used to mimic her savagely during his time at the Liverpool College of Art but after he actually met Cogan on the TV pop show Ready Steady Go! in 1964, they became close friends.
Cogan's sister Sandra later said that the pair had a serious romance that had to be kept secret because of Alma's family's strict Jewish faith. Cogan embarked on a series of club dates in the North of England in early 1966, but collapsed after two performances and had to be treated for stomach cancer. She died of ovarian cancer at London's Middlesex Hospital on 26th October of that year. She was only 34. She is seen here in Kensington High Street near the lavishly decorated ground-floor flat at 44 Stafford Court where she lived with her widowed mother and where she frequently entertained other celebrities. Regular visitors included Princess Margaret, Noël Coward, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Michael Caine, Frankie Vaughan, Bruce Forsyth and Roger Moore. A blue plaque commemorating her was installed by the entrance on 4th November 2001💐💐💐

"No Way BCCI Would…": England Great On Joe Root Potentially Breaking Sachin Tendulkar's Record
Joe Root is going through the form of his life in Test cricket. The star batter scored two hundreds across two innings in the second Test of the ongoing three-match series vs Sri Lanka. The twin tons also saw Root going past Alastair Cook to become the England batter with most centuries in Test cricket. Root now has 34 to his credit, one more than that of retired player Cook. The right-handed batter, who is 33 years old, has over 12 thousand Test runs to his credit and he is quite close to the all-time record of India great Sachin Tendulkar.
Tumblr media
Sachin tops the run-scorers' chart with 15921 runs in Test cricket. When asked during an interaction whether Root will be able to surpass Sachin, former England captain Michael Vaughan replied with a "yes".
"I think it's three and a half thousand runs he trails by. He has three years. Unless his back snaps; he is the most enthusiastic lover of the game. I don't think he is going to get away. He is no longer the captain and knows his game better than ever before. I'll be amazed if he doesn't. He has played beautifully," said Vaughan during a discussion on said on Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Vaughan added that the BCCI would never want an England player to go on top of list, replacing an Indian.
"If Joe goes past Sachin, it will be the best thing that would ever happen to Test cricket, because there's no way BCCI would want an England player at the top of the list. They'll want an Indian at the top so that will secure Test match cricket because it'll take forever for someone to get past him," he added.
Legendary Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist, who was also present in the discussion, said, "Don't know. How old is he? 33? He's a youngster. I have no idea when his appetite is going to slow down. He is clearly pretty hungry at the moment. But does he have the desire to go on? He is going to phase himself out of white ball completely. Sorry, I will answer that question about Joe after the Ashes next year."

Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali left out as England enter new white-ball era
Sign up to our free sport newsletter for all the latest news on everything from cycling to boxing Sign up to our free sport email for all the latest news Sign up to our free sport email for all the latest news Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali could have played their last games for England after being dropped in a shake-up of the white-ball set-up. Matthew Mott was sacked as head coach of the limited-overs side last month after disappointing title defences in the ODI and T20 World Cups and the appetite for change has continued with the removal of two senior men sharing over 400 caps for the forthcoming series against Australia. Five uncapped players have been called up for Marcus Trescothick’s first assignment as interim coach, with left-arm seamer Josh Hull, all-rounder Jacob Bethell and pace bowler John Turner selected in both formats, while Dan Mousley and Jordan Cox come into the T20 reckoning. Moeen has been an influential vice-captain to Jos Buttler in recent times but is now 37 and has acknowledged in the past that his international career was winding down. His role as a spin bowling all-rounder will be covered by his Warwickshire teammates Bethell and Mousley. Bairstow turns 35 next month but there is no such sense that he is ready to bring the curtain down on his England days. He was an integral part of the white-ball revolution that carried the side to World Cup glory in 2019, and scored back-to-back centuries against India and New Zealand in must-win games at that tournament. He lost his Test spot earlier this summer after winning his 100th cap over the winter but made his desire to continue representing his country clear in an interview with the BBC during the Hundred. Bairstow bristled when quizzed about his future, telling former Test captain Michael Vaughan: “All I want to do is play for England. End of. You don’t need to ask me that do you? I think you’ve known me for long enough to know that.” Despite having around 14 months left on the two-year central contract he signed last October, it seems clear England are looking to move in a different direction and empower the likes of Will Jacks. Chris Jordan has also been moved on while Liam Livingstone has retained his T20 spot but misses out on the 50-over matches. Another eye-catching pick is that of Durham seamer Brydon Carse, who completes a three-month ban for historical betting offences on Wednesday. He has not played competitively since May 10 due to his suspension but has been offered an instant return by the England and Wales Cricket Board. No red-ball regulars have been considered for the three-match T20 series which starts in Hampshire the day after the final Test against Sri Lanka, though Hull and Cox are involved despite being part of Brendon McCullum’s squad. Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith and Matthew Potts will take a short break before joining up with Trescothick’s ODI team for the five-match series. Joe Root is not included but the PA news agency understands his omission is simply a case of workload management ahead of a busy winter. Zak Crawley, Ben Stokes and Mark Wood are all out injured but Saqib Mahmood, who conquered his own long-term fitness issues to play a starring role in the Hundred final, returns. England T20 squad to face Australia: Butter (c), Archer, Bethell, Carse, Cox, S Curran, Hull, Jacks, Livingstone, Mahmood, Mousley, Rashid, Salt, Topley, Turner. England ODI squad to face Australia: Buttler (c), Archer, Atkinson, Bethell, Brook, Carse, Duckett, Hull, Jacks, Potts, Rashid, Salt, Smith, Topley, Turner. Source link via The Novum Times

Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs by defeating Chennai Super Kings. They needed to win their last league game for a top-four finish and achieved it with a 27-run victory at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, after the game, there was some criticism of RCB's players for celebrating too much and not shaking hands with CSK's captain, MS Dhoni, who walked off the pitch without shaking hands. What was MS Dhoni's reaction post-match? Videos on social media showed Dhoni waiting for the RCB players to shake hands, but they were busy celebrating. Eventually, Dhoni walked away to the dressing room without shaking hands. Later, Virat Kohli followed him inside to talk to him. What did Michael Vaughan comment about the situation on Cricbuzz?
Michael Vaughan criticized RCB players for not taking a moment to shake hands with Dhoni. He said although RCB had a lot of support and were excited about making it to the playoffs, they should not be a team everyone dislikes. According to Vaughan, they should have shown more sportsmanship. What did Harsha Bhogle say during the discussion? Harsha Bhogle stressed the importance of shaking hands after a match, regardless of the occasion. He mentioned that even if a team wins a major game like a World Cup final, they should still take time to shake hands with the opposition as a sign that the competitive spirit is over and to respect the opponents. What additional point did Michael Vaughan make about Dhoni possibly retiring? Vaughan pointed out that this match might have been Dhoni's last in IPL, and RCB players might regret not showing him the respect of shaking hands first. He suggested that they should have paused their celebrations to shake Dhoni's hand, acknowledging his legendary status, before continuing their celebrations. What overall message did the experts try to convey? The experts emphasized the importance of sportsmanship in cricket. They conveyed that while celebrating victories is natural, players should always show respect to their opponents by shaking hands, especially when dealing with iconic players like MS Dhoni. This act symbolizes the end of on-field rivalry and acknowledges mutual respect. The victorious RCB, led by Faf du Plessis, clinched a crucial win by 27 runs, sparking jubilant celebrations among players and fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the post-match euphoria hit a controversial note when videos surfaced showing MS Dhoni, the iconic Chennai Super Kings' captain, walking off the pitch without shaking hands with RCB players. Dhoni reportedly waited for the RCB players, who were too busy celebrating, before heading back to the dressing room. RCB’s Virat Kohli was seen following Dhoni inside to talk to him. Cricket experts have weighed in on the incident. Michael Vaughan, former England captain, criticized RCB players during a Cricbuzz discussion, stating, “They have a lot of support, but they sometimes overdo it. Celebrations are fine, but sportsmanship is crucial.” Harsha Bhogle, a renowned commentator, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of tradition. "Win your game, celebrate later, but first, shake hands. It's a sign of mutual respect," Bhogle said. This incident has sparked a debate within today's current affairs, with experts pondering whether the RCB’s actions might be seen as poor sportsmanship, especially if this winds up being Dhoni's last IPL game. Vaughan added, "If this was Dhoni's last match, those players might regret not shaking his hand first." The cricket community continues to discuss the significance of such gestures in maintaining the spirit of the game amidst high-stakes competitions.
As the playoffs approach, all eyes remain on how teams balance their competitive fervor with the cherished traditions of sportsmanship. [ad_1]
