So, in your Leon Me Alone! Au do Splinter and Leo's mother meet again? How is their dynamic? And how is Splinter and Leo's dynamic?
AW YEAH MORE DYNAMIC QUESTIONS!!!! I LOVE THESE!!!!! : DDDD
Do Splinter and Mia meet again?
Oh BOY do they!! The short version of it is that after the whole....erm, beatdown that the older Hamato boys give Leon, he needs some serious medical attention. (These boys do not mess around when it comes to their little brother. The fact that it was Leon only made it that much easier.)
Leon was conscence enough to direct them to the hospital where his Mama works, and Mikey called Splinter on their way there because well, he was pretty scared tbh. Splinter rushes into the room while Mia is also there helping to take care of Leon, and yeah they've met before because their sons are pretty closely connected, but once they get to talking it becomes very obvious that Mia is trying really hard to hide something, and Splinter is finally able to connect the dots. Things become quickly uncomfortable.
2. How is their dynamic?
In a word? Messy. They know who the other is, but they also know what that means for thier kids. They hide it for as long as they can, but their boys are smart, and it doesn't take too long for them to start to connect the dots themselves.
Once everything's laid out though, all bets are off and honestly? They both still have feelings for each other. Oops.
3. How is Splinter and Leo's dynamic?
Splinter desperately wants to get to know his son and make up for all the lost time. Leon wants Splinter to drop dead.
This makes bonding difficult.
Thanks for the ask! Truly, all of the asks help me to think about my own story and flesh it out more, so thank you! Ciao!

spooky tuesday is a (now not so new!) podcast where we’re breaking down all of our favorite slashers, thrillers, monster movies and black comedies on the new scariest day of the week.
it's the third film in a hot horror franchise AND it makes the hop to hollywood, so the comparisons between maXXXine (2024) and scream 3 were inevitable — but are they a compliment or a criticism? in our latest episode of spooky tuesday, we're covering the newest (but perhaps not final) movie in ti west's spooky saga starring mia goth. a direct sequel to 2022's x but coming on the heels of prequel pearl, this flick has a tough job striking the right tone and trying to stand alone, but one thing we can say for it is that the accent work definitely makes it stand out.
give spooky tuesday a listen on apple podcasts, spotify, iheart radio, or stitcher

MaXXXine closes out Ti West’s slasher series and it’s a movie that I like more the more I think about it. Some movies grow like that. A lot of great small parts but my favorite bits have nothing to do with the film’s other connections. Kevin Bacon is like if a hotel mattress stain was a person who wasn’t allowed to vote or even legally think about a school.

Hi!!! In Leon Me Alone! How is the relationship between Mia (Leo's mother) and the Hamato kids? For some reason, I imagine her like making desserts with Mikey or knitting with Raph haha ^-^
I have been staring at this ask since I received it this is literally so cute!! (Which means I then in turn thought about it for way too long)
Mia and Mikey have been hanging out for years, they love to make meals together! She teaches him a bunch of true Italian and Dominican dishes, which he absolutely loves to learn! He's also the only one who starts to form a child/parent relationship with her before they find out that they're actually family. She helps him out with various motherly advices and is generally always been an adult aside from his dad that he could turn to
Mia and Donnie have a very strained relationship, to say the least. She's heard about all of the drama between him and Leon over the years, and she always kind of resented him for refusing to be her son's friend, even though it's all Leon ever wanted from the boy. However, thay doesn't mean that they don't start to accidently bond over clothes and fashion once they all figure out thay they're family.
Both are pretty big into fashion, and she knows a bit about coding and technology from a few electives she had to take in college, so Donnie loves to infodump at her, especially because she actually understands a decent amount of it.
And then I absolutely love the idea of Mia and Raph knitting together, so I hit her with the embroidery beam lol. Raph knits and she embroiders, and they just kinda talk about whatever. Raph kinda hates it at first because it was suggested by Mikey to "Get closer with their new mom!", but over time he came to look forward to it more and more, and now they've got it scheduled for twice a week to just craft and chat.
All that being said, this is all before she finds out everything they've been hiding from her. Oops.

MAXXXINE (2024)
💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead
Tumblr media
A stylistic departure from the first two films in the series but a good movie to be sure. More along the lines of a drama thriller, “MAXXXINE” strays far from its slasher roots (not that there isn’t gore and death in this film as well). A solid wrap up to the series (though you really only needed to watch “X” prior to this movie to really get Maxine’s PTSD), and one of Mia Goth's stronger performances (and not just because she was a strong female lead).
TW Strobing Lights
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Tumblr media
We meet up with Maxine, now blonde, and she’s going to be making her silver screen debut! Just as soon as she figures out who is murdering all her friends… And who knows about everything that went down in the events of “X” (or so they think they do). Special guest appearances by Halsey as a private dancer (/corpse), Kevin Bacon as a seedy PI, Giancarlo Esposito as an equally seedy but incredibly endearing entertainment lawyer, and Bobby Cannavale as a failed actor (ha) turned detective (/corpse).
Tumblr media
Right away there is a big shift in Maxine's demeanor compared to the first time we meet her. There may be a flicker of fear in her, but it burns out quickly under most situations. Maxine takes full control by either telling the casting directors they should cast her because she is a star, having a gun on hand when she almost got assaulted/murdered in the alley and turning the tables on him, lacing her keys in her fingers and punching out the PI following her…
Tumblr media
Her humanity, failing as it may be, stretched thin by the life she has endured, seems intact. She is having PTSD from her adventures in “X” which are almost exclusively the cause of her fears (that and her past being discovered, possibly ruining her blossoming career). Enlisting the help of her trusty lawyer, Maxine gets Kevin Bacon to take a car ride he’ll never forget (honestly, he was just disappointed by the evening, crushed really). Maxine leaves that pesky murderer to herself though and heads up to just below the Hollywood sign, with the semi-hapless cops in tow.
Tumblr media
After arriving at the death mansion, we are surprised to find none other than Maxine's Daddy Dearest, our good preacher man, has been the horrific murderer of every person in Maxi’s life. He says he wants to make her a star so he and his cult attempt an exorcism/ritual murder (depending on how fickle papa was feeling that evening) but the coppers come in just in time! Bullets abound but Big Papa sneaks off, the detectives tell Maxine to stay put but she is done being a victim.
Tumblr media
Following the sound of gunshots and trail of blood, Maxine finds her pathetic pops lying on the ground and blows his bastard head off. Flash forward one month and she is living the good life, having fended off a murderer and being able to finish working on her movie. She says she doesn’t want the fame to end which could imply that she isn’t done killing (you know, the trauma begets trauma theory from the other movies in the series) BUT I think, due this being the last film in the trilogy, that this means Maxine just wants to keep acting now that she's made it onto the silver screen. She shouldn’t have to do anything to defend herself in the future (but she knows she is capable). They left it up for interpretation but I like to believe that Maxine was stronger than Pearl and is a survivor in more ways than one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
After Ti West’s X and PEARL instantly solidified themselves as two of my favorite horror films from the past twenty years or so, MAXXXINE, as you can imagine, was one of my most anticipated films of the year. Was this going to be a perfect trilogy? Expectations were through the roof. The end product, while gorgeous, left a bit to be desired.
MAXXXINE picks up six years after the events of X, in 1985, with Maxine Minx (Mia Goth, excellent again) working her popular butt off to move forward from her past trauma and make damn sure everyone will know her name. She’s quite successful in the adult entertainment industry, but now she’s got her sights set on Hollywood. What follows is Ti West’s take on the giallo.
The vibes are exquisite. The eighties aesthetic alone is worth the price of admission! The story, however, centering on Maxine taking in a role in a new horror film with an intense (female!) director (Elizabeth Debicki) while the Night Stalker is terrorizing the streets is paper thin, as most giallos tend to be. The audience knows who the killer is practically from the opening scene, so the reveal in the third act lands with the weight of a wet pasta noodle. You wonder why the requisite cop duo (Bobby Cannavale and Michelle Monaghan) are so bad at their job.
The horror elements all work to great effect, West is in his wheelhouse here. The kills are fantastic, with a body count appropriate to a third film in a horror franchise. Mia Goth turns in another powerhouse performance, her work in this trilogy is some of my favorite acting of all time. It’s also got a fun supporting cast, Kevin Bacon in particular is clearly having a blast with the material. Unfortunately none of the characters are really given anything to do, so it largely feels like a waste of talent.
By the time the credits rolled, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. I still greatly enjoyed it, and it’ll definitely be something I’ll revisit for the vibes alone. This is definitely the weakest entry, but that’s only because the first two were SO strong - if this were a horror film released in a vacuum I think I would have loved it more. That being said, if you weren’t quite as hot on X or PEARL, maybe this one will be the one that works for you! There’s only one way to find out - go to the movies and see it on the big screen.
3/5
