The funny thing about fandoms is that there are always very specific fanfics that EVERYONE knows 💀 and its different for every tag/ship/fandom. Like the vigilante deku tag has Viridian the green guide, Bakudeku stans have The Way you used to Do and From The Sidelines, and the Marauders fandom has All the young dudes. AND ALSO EACH FANFIC HAS ITS OWN FANDOM! I love this but also am completely baffled by it

It has been a while since I started digital art,

Quite a while.

So here is a 'progress over the last two years' since I gained access to a drawing tablet.

This is my first ever digitally illustrated piece- compared to my latest one-

So, a little bit different.

I do think my art took quite a jump around June 2022, when I took a break from my Steve comic strip, (for obvious reasons- it was about Technoblade's polar bear so...) and decided to try practicing gesture drawing to see if it helped my general anatomy knowledge. This is before,

And this next one is after.

The most obvious change here is that I switched to using thinner lines. There is a gap of about two months between these.

This was when I realised that you could improve art by practicing it (mind-blowing I know), and then started to do just that. Some other notable jumps forward would be when I discovered the airbrush-

Well, discovered a new method of shading with it anyway.

Then after that I had a few pictures that I actually still like, despite them being pretty old at this point, the one below is actually from September of 2022-

I mean, the hands are a bit iffy, but the rest looks alright. This was when I was going through a bit of a melanie martinez phase-

This next one was from January of 2023, I'd only just gotten into bungou stray dogs via some random memes on pinterest about this weird brown haired guy who had lots of bandages and who had this running gag with wanting to die- I actually looked him up at one point, but that didn't really explain much. The main one that I remember was 'life is short, so make it shorter, shorter than chuuya~'

Which at the time was just kind of confusing,

Then I watched the show and it made perfect sense.

I'd discovered ascendance of a bookworm in like, 2021, but I hadn't really been doing fanart of it since I was mainly doing dsmp related stuff and I kind of assumed nobody would know what on earth I was referencing. Turns out tumblr has a lot more bookworm fans than I orignally anticipated. Instagram still has no clue. I think maybe one person out of my followers on instagram knows what I'm on about-

Then we've got these two which I am still proud of btw-

The first one is from a dystopian/time travel fanfic called viridian.

The second one was after I learned about rim lighting. It was inspired by a song actually, 'crash' by noevaii. (and yes I found that song from a sad-ist animatic, it was cool) The character isn't anyone in particular. They're both from February 2023.

Then there's probably my most liked picture on instagram, (not tumblr, since tumblr knows about bsd and bookworm, but y'know. This was even sadder than I originally intended since the last half of my comic strip was finished AFTER everything happened)

Then the final conclusion of my Steve comic strip in May of 2023.

I don't think my art really changed much in between those, but eh.

Then I switched to doing a bunch of ascendance of a bookworm stuff to see what would happen and turns out there are way more fellow fans out there than I anticipated-

Then I guess my next breakthrough in tumblr popularity, (even if it might not have been a breakthrough in art skills necessarily) was when things went DOWN in the bsd fandom with chapter 109 and I did probably one of my most liked tumblr posts I have ever done-

I still think it's hilarious that I put in chuuya having contacts. My reasoning being, they're on a film set,

It was a pretty interesting exercise in shading in monochrome.

Then I started a 30 day art challenge in October that I didn't get past day six of, but it was still pretty fun. This is the best one of those-

After that I spent most of my time studying for the jlpt n5, so I didn't really do that much art related stuff,

This is one of the two non-commission related pictures that I finished over the two months after I kind of gave up on the art challenge. This one's from November,

Then I finally finished an art commission I'd been working on for the three months prior, as well as studying. Here is an example of the type of pictures I was doing for that,

Then I was occupied with christmas and birthday presents for my siblings, both my little sisters are into ascendance of a bookworm- (completely my fault I am proud to say) so I was able to do stuff related to that, here's a couple of snippets, but you guys don't get the colour version hehe

Anyway, it's been quite a progression since I resolved to master digital art in 2021.

I reckon I've come a fair way since then. I mean. My art skills in general are way better than they used to be. The last two or three years have been pretty interesting.

Note from submitter: I have re-read this fic 14 times IT IS SO GOOD. I really love time travel fix-it fics and this one just hits all the points. It’s so angsty and fluffy at the same time. It has made me burst out laughing and cry. It has the perfect hurt/comfort ratio. I really love all the dynamics and it’s a refreshing fic to read. I think about it all the time. I swear it is amazing. This is my comfort fic and it is everything to me. I have ranted to my friends so much about how amazing it is. This is the holy grail of fanfiction to me.

The fab three!! Or rather, as the police call them, the Three Musketeers.

Right to left we have:

Night hawk, civilian identity: Bakugo Masaru

Quirk: secretes acid from his palms. When rubbed together, he can create friction explosions.

Mostly acts as support for the other two. His parents own a massively famous support company, so he handles building all support for the girls and himself. He is their hacker and backup for special missions. He is trained as a sniper by his ex-military father. His father has a nitric acid quirk, which allows him to sweat it, and his mother has a quirk that enables her to reales sulphuric gas on command from her pores. He is an only child.

Middle is Belladonna, civilian identity: Shindou Mitsuki

Quirk: glycerin.

She is a heavy hitter with a quirkless fight style. Her father owns a fashion company and her mother is a model. Mitsuki fights using a large staff that was designed by Masaru and contains several smaller weapons. She works at her mothers modeling agency per her fathers request, so, unlike Veridian Phantom, she is not a regular patroller. Her mother has a quirk called glycerin infusion, and it essentially holds the glycerin a layer on her skin at all times. Her father has a quirk that allows him to sweat benzophenone, which protects him from uv rays, as he is an albino. Mitsuki is an older sister with one younger brother.

Quirk: Pull and push . Can push or pull any object to/from her, from a penny to a bus. Though metal is easier.

She is a frontliner who relies on stealth assassins creed style, however she can fight all out like a heavy hitter easily. She just doesn’t like to. She fights using solid metal throwing knives and two handguns. She’s a trust fund baby and doesn’t have to work, so she spends most of her time in their hideout. She is the only regular patroller. She is an only child. Her mother has a telekinesis quirk, and her father has a magnetic quirk.

Hot take but I actually don't mind the bnha ending. Obviously it's not perfect, but nothing is and that's what fanfiction is for. I'm mostly talking about the post timeskip part of the ending, since the long drawn out battle stuff is what bored me from the series in the first place.

More thoughts and spoilers under the cut:

So I've seen people upset about Izuku losing one for all, but him being quirkless again brings it all full circle and makes sure the whole one-for-all/all-for-one thing is actually done with. Since it's hard for quirkless people to be heros in quirked society, especially with his messed up arms, he becomes a teacher to he can still help and inspire the next generation. The part where he tells the circle hair kid that he CAN be a hero, even with a weak or nonexistent quirk, is him learning from his past and doing better than his predecessors by inspiring the next generation (instead of crushing their dreams...All Might better be glad midoriya didnt go villain...). Plus, at the end, it's implied that he gets to become an active hero again with the use of support gear, so he eventually gets to directly help people in the field as well as indirectly in class. I know a lot of people were hoping for ships and pairings to become canon, but honestly I don't care about that. There's so much discourse in the mha fandom already about that, and this way people can still ship who they like or whatever.

Anyways, I prefer Clouds fics and a couple of others to the main series anyway (mostly because they're shorter and get to the point a little faster) so take my thoughts with a grain of salt lol.
