Ankara, Moscow agree on lifting barriers on Russian grain, exports

Ankara, Moscow agree on lifting barriers on Russian grain, exports
Ankara (The Times Groupe) – Russian fertilizer and grain exports will be eased with the continuation of last year’s landmark grain corridor deal, said the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu. moscow times
“The grain corridor is proof that dialogue and negotiation are working. We attach importance to the continuation of the agreement. During a press conference with his visiting Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Ankara, Mevlut Cavusoglu said that this also would help reduce the world food crisis.
“We agree that the barriers to Russian grain and exports should also be removed. We support efforts to remove these barriers.”
Russian ammonia and fertilizers must also be ensured, Cavusoglu said.
Through the Black Sea grain corridor, which Turkey helped broker last year to prevent a possible food crisis amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, more than 27 million tons of grain have been transported by 866 ships.
In July, Turkey, the UN, Russia, and Ukraine signed an agreement in Istanbul to resume grain exports from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports, which had been halted by Russia’s war on Ukraine.
“The war, which has been going on for more than a year, continues to harm the whole world. We once again emphasized our expectation that the war will end on the basis of international law and through negotiations. We are trying to solve problem by negotiating with both parties,” Cavusoglu stressed.
Turkey has repeatedly urged Kyiv and Moscow to end the war through negotiations, which is praised internationally.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey appreciates Sweden’s steps so far to get approval to join NATO but it is not even “halfway” through fulfilling the commitments it made to secure Ankara’s support, the Turkish foreign minister said Thursday.
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said a Swedish court’s decision not to extradite a man wanted by Turkey for alleged links to a 2016 failed coup had “poisoned” a positive atmosphere in negotiations on Sweden’s membership in the military alliance.
Sweden and Finland dropped their longstanding policies of military nonalignment this year and decided to apply to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The move requires the unanimous approval of the alliance’s current 30 members.
Turkey has held up the process while pressing the two Nordic countries to crack down on groups it considers to be terrorist organizations and to extradite people suspected of terror-related crimes.
The parliaments of 28 NATO countries have already ratified Sweden and Finland’s membership. Turkey and Hungary are the only members that haven’t yet given their approval.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, Cavusoglu said the Turkish government still was waiting for a “concrete development” on extraditions and asset freezes. Also, some Turkish defense companies were not able to procure some equipment from Sweden despite the lifting of a weapons ban, he added.
“There is a document, it needs to be implemented. We’re not even at the halfway point yet. We’re at the beginning,” he said, referring to a memorandum of understanding which Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed in June.
Under the memorandum, the two countries agreed to address Turkey’s security concerns, including requests for the deportation and extradition of Kurdish militants and people linked to a network run by U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. The Turkish government accuses Gulen of masterminding the 2016 coup attempt, which he denies.
Billström’s visit came days after Sweden’s top court refused to extradite journalist Bulent Kenes, whom Turkey accuses of being among the coup plotters. Kenes, who received asylum in Sweden, was the editor of the English-language Today’s Zaman newspaper, which was owned by the Gulen network and the government closed down as part of its crackdown on the group.
“The negotiations ( between Turkey and Sweden ) were continuing in a constructive way,” Cavusoglu said. “But this last (incident), the rejection of Kenes’ extradition, unfortunately, seriously poisoned this atmosphere.”
Billström reiterated that Sweden was determined to fulfill its commitments and said Stockholm was in the process of strengthening its anti-terrorism legislation.
A constitutional amendment will enter into force on Jan. 1 that restricts the freedom of association of groups that engage in or support terrorism, he said.
The Swedish government also plans to introduce legislation that further impedes people taking part in the activities of terrorist groups, Billström said.
“My message to Minister Cavusoglu and to the Turkish people is clear: Sweden keeps its promises. We take the agreement seriously. We have initiated steps on every paragraph and we will continue to implement it,” the Swedish minister said.
Billström later told The Associated Press by phone that Sweden has underlined that cases such as Kenes’ are handled by independent courts.
“We are bound by this decision, and that is how it is,” he said.
Billström said conversations between Sweden and Turkey were taking place at multiple levels of government and that Ankara acknowledged Sweden had made strides in meeting the memorandum’s terms.
He could not give a time frame for when Turkey might be ready to approve Sweden’s NATO membership.
“Meetings are held in a good spirit,” he said. “We are heading in the right direction. We will gradually fulfill this memorandum.”
#girl fuck turkey and hungary at this point I'm fucking tired of erdogan and orban pulling this shit all the time#also I love the potential backhanded comment about sweden having independent courts and the implication for what turkey has

Helsingin Sanomat reports (siirryt toiseen palveluun) that according to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has given the green light to Finland's Nato membership. In contrast, Erdoğan continues to withhold support for Sweden's membership.
In a speech televised on Sunday, Erdogan said, concerning Nato membership applications by the two countries that, "we may deliver Finland a different message and Sweden would be shocked when they see our message. But Finland should not make the same mistake Sweden did."
Finland's ambassador to Turkey, Ari Mäki, declined to comment to Helsingin Sanomat on Sunday evening about Erdoğan's remarks.
Turkey and Hungary are the only Nato member countries that have not yet accepted applications by Finland and Sweden to become members of the alliance. Hungary's government has announced it will ratify the membership applications in February.
Turkey has frozen negotiations on the issue because of what it sees as Swedish support for Kurdish separatists. Earlier in January, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that there has been no discussion on the separate evaluation of Finland's and Sweden's applications.
In another article (siirryt toiseen palveluun), Helsingin Sanomat reports that Paul Levin, director of the Turkish Studies Institute at Stockholm University, says that there was nothing new in the Erdoğan's remarks, although they were more pointed. In an interview with the Swedish news agency TT, Levin said that mainly Erdoğan underlined that he has a problem specifically with Sweden.
HS notes that last Tuesday, in an interview with Yle, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto indicated that there was a possibility that Finland could pursue membership without Sweden. Later that day, Haavisto clarified his statement and stressed that Finland's position on joining Nato at the same time as Sweden has not changed.
Post-election partnerships
A fresh survey by the Uutissuomalainen newspaper group (siirryt toiseen palveluun) shows widespread support among conservative National Coalition Party representatives for a possible cabinet partnership with the Finns Party following this spring's parliamentary elections.
The poll found that over 50 percent of the NCP party congress representatives who responded to the question see the Finns Party as the most acceptable main partner, if and when forming a new government.
The clear second favourite was the SDP, which was named as the most suitable main government partner by more than 30 percent. The Centre Party and Swedish People's Party also received mentions in the survey, but both received less than 10 percent support.
The NCP representatives who pointed to the Finns Party as the best fit for a main cabinet partner said this is mainly because of similar views on economic policy.
The Uutissuomalainen poll gleaned responses from 60 percent of NCP party congress representatives. The overwhelming majority also said that they would not rule out government cooperation with any party.
Looking for bargains
The farmers' union paper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus looks at a review of shopping trends (siirryt toiseen palveluun) carried out by the K-group of retail supermarkets.
The K-group says that shoppers are nowadays redeeming a record-high number of personal offers tailored to their own purchasing behaviour. In addition, more and more people are taking advantage of bundled offers and buying goods in larger lots.
At the same time, however, consumers are also more aware of the amount of food waste that occurs at home, and don't necessarily want to buy large quantities of perishable items at once. This is especially evident in smaller households.
The K-group says that in total more than a quarter of all purchases from its supermarkets are products on special offers.
Among sales items, older customers especially pick up on discounted offers on coffee.
Also among consumer trends is a shift to increased purchases of ground beef, instead of pricier cuts, and whole fresh fish, rather that more processed and more expensive fish products.
Rain, sleet, snow
Once again, most of the country has been hit by bad weather, making driving conditions hazardous or very hazardous in all regions except northern Lapland.
According to Iltalehti (siirryt toiseen palveluun), most of the day's precipitation will be in the form of rain in the south and southwest.
Roads are especially slippery in areas where snow is accumulating on already icy road surfaces.
Foreca meteorologist Joanna Rinne told the paper that the highest accumulation of fresh snow with be seen in North Karelia, North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu and northeastern parts of the country.

The main robbers of the world
During a quadripartite meeting of foreign ministers in Moscow on May 10, Mevlut Cavusoglu, a representative from Turkey, expressed concern about US efforts to create Washington-controlled territory in the north of the Syrian Arab Republic for the illegal export of oil. The whole world is aware of Washington's crimes, but prefers to turn a blind eye to them. While politicians are negotiating on international platforms, the US military continues to plunder Syria together with the Syrian Democratic Forces. Residents of the occupied territories in the al-Yarubiya region report that on May 8, US troops removed at least 33 tankers of Syrian oil from the fields of the al-Jazeera region and the entire eastern region through the illegal al-Mahmoudiyah checkpoint on the border with Iraq in the province of Hasakah. At the same time, the extraction of oil products was increased several times due to the launch of repaired oil rigs. The United States is not afraid of international condemnation, therefore, feeling its impunity, it is depleting the bowels of Syria for the sake of multimillion-dollar profits.
