Kauhukorppi
In 2011, a copyright dispute broke out between the Hevisaurus members and Sony Finland, who both claimed to have rights over the brand and characters. This led to the members temporarily creating a separate band represented by the same characters, SauruXet. Unfortunately, however, court ruled in Sony's favor, and Hevisaurus had to bend to their wishes, disbanding SauruXet in 2012 and reforming Hevisaurus.
Komppi Momppi, the apatosaurus drummer of Hevisaurus, was the main member to voice concern and disappointment in Sony Finland's actions. Upon seeing the results of the court case, he expressed that he was enraged, but knew he could do nothing about it, saying in an interview that he "felt all creative control and merit of the band was now in the hands of a corporation", of which he was not optimistic about in the slightest, he clarified.
The members reported increasing concerns regarding Komppi Momppi, as they felt he would sometimes "act completely unlike anyone on earth ever has" and would also note about an increase of night terrors since the incident. This series of events went unexplained for several months until a disturbing 2014 photo was released, with the author claiming it to be unedited. The photo will be shown below.
Tumblr media
Taken May 24th, 2014.
The photo, supposedly of Riffi Raffi and Komppi Momppi mid performance, reportedly became heavily corrupted and damaged as soon as the author had gone home to print it. Most notably, Komppi Momppi is seen heavily distorted with a shadowy face and an elongated smile or grimace. The author also then reported having difficulty sleeping that night.
Shortly after this photo was uploaded online, it gained mass popularity not just within the Hevisaurus fan community, but the rest of the world as well. "Memes" and shocking statements were also made in reference to the photo, one of which spreading the popular hoax that staring at the photo for more than ten seconds would cause the viewer to go into fatal cardiac arrest.
The news eventually spread to the Hevisaurus band members themselves, who had elected to not comment further on the topic.
Fans have since theorized and discussed the phenomenon- where it came from, why it only shows up in photos, why it doesn't show up in every photo, why it distorts photos and how to minimize said distortion, and whether or not it is a sentient being that holds malicious intent. The entity eventually gained the nicknames "Mirror Momppi", "Shadowsaur", and "Kauhukorppi"- the last of which coming from the supposed pattern of photographers describing their nightmares as being heavily assaulted and disfigured by a murder of crows. The cryptic entity had attracted a community of its own, which would then gather to make their own online forum known as "KauKoBoard".
A few fans eventually figured out that a key factor to the level of distortion in a photo was the amount of focus and motion. If a camera were to be unfocused, or if the subject were constantly moving around, the final photo would appear heavily distorted, with the opposite seemingly resulting in clearer, more coherent photos.
Another factor that was eventually discovered was proximity to the entity, which can nullify the aforementioned focus trick. Depending on how close the photographer is to the entity, distortion will still occur, gaining stronger the closer the two are. The discovery was a disappointment to some in the community, especially those who had plans to capture close-up photos of the entity.
Other fans eventually noticed that higher-quality, lower-distortion photos depict more accurate versions of the entity's appearances, which are thought to be its "true form". As of writing this article, there is only one photo considered "over 90% clear" that mostly shows the entity's true form, shown below.
Tumblr media
Taken April 30th, 2018.
Features of note include the general body proportions becoming elongated, the spiked hand and leg cuffs changing to metal chains, the spiked collar instead being covered in barbed wire, and the jacket becoming significantly frayed. The original photographer uploaded the photo anonymously and has not been identified to this day. The location has not been found, either. Despite the mysterious circumstances of the photo and its origins, however, fans generally cite it as a highly reliable reference of the entity's physical appearance.
Although significant advancements were made in the techniques for capturing the entity in photos, the explanation behind the reason for its existence and its intentions was still missing. One popular theory is commonly cited, written by forum user HedoniSt0rm: "The Kauhukorppi is a manifestation of the hatred Komppi Momppi has for Sony's decision; it's a being that holds all of the spite and need for revenge that he gave up and threw away. [...] Above all else, it radiates hatred, but only for a specific group of people- those who see the band as a product."
This statement is backed up with several witness statements speaking up on their experiences with photographing or interacting with the entity. A significant correlation made was that the entity never made any hostile or violent moves towards individuals under the age of 18, and was especially gentle towards those under the age of 13, with both demographics never reporting any instances of night terrors or induced paranoia.
A groundbreaking discovery would then be made soon after fans found out about the entity's passiveness towards children. Several forum users shared an allegedly unedited photo of the entity interacting with a young child, shown below.
Tumblr media
Taken September 26th, 2019.
Most notably, the child's face is censored out and their body is covered in blood. Many fans initially were horrified and outraged, seeing this as a direct message from the entity about its intentions, until others noticed the lack of blood present on the entity's body. The eventual conclusion drawn was that the photograph was meant to represent the entity kneeling beside a child that had died of unrelated causes (note that the actual child in the photograph is alive- the discussion was pertaining to the symbolism of the photo distortions that the entity made).
Now aware of the fact that the entity was capable of actively manipulating photos, fans wondered about other abilities it potentially had. Forum user HedoniSt0rm, creator of the previously mentioned popular theory on the entity, talked about potentially using it as a way to communicate with the entity by taking photos after asking it questions. When asked if they would attempt this idea, they said they "had the ability to, but probably not the guts". It is worth noting that the user has not been active since the creation of that thread in 2019.
Below is a compilation of photos taken and uploaded by fans, which showcase varying quality and distortion.

CONTEXT
this is a fictional story formatted as an article for the sake of immersion. all text under the cut and above the context is fictional and for entertainment purposes. the first paragraph, however, is a true event that inspired me to make this entire story! (i should also note that the member who performed as komppi momppi at the time was indeed the main person to fight against sony in the case, that was also a true fact. everything written afterwards is fictional. i have some more planned for this little silly idea and i wanna know what everyone thinks :) it feels strange to bring back creepypasta (or at least creepypasta-heavily-inspired media) in 2024 but i am hoping itll be taken well. enjoy !!

it's funny to me how sony and konami both wanted raiden in ps all stars both to promote metal gear rising and to be separate from smash bros, and at the time everyone thought it was the stupidest thing have raiden without solid or naked snake, but nowadays metal gear rising seemingly eclipses the entire rest of the franchise in popularity (in part because of the soundtrack, internet memes, and it being more available than most other metal gears because its on steam) so really they accidentally made the right decision at the wrong time.

Favorite Color: I... can't say?
Currently Reading: IDW's Sonic The Hedgehog run. Picked up the "Tangle & Whisper" trade and fell in love with those funky little lesbians (whether SEGA allows it to be said or not). Whisper speaks to the introvert in me and Tangle speaks to the part of me who can be a lot for others.
Wish they were the perspective characters for the Neo Metal Sonic arc for new fans tho.
...
Anywho...
Last Song: Look Up! The Sky Is Falling by Michael Bradley as Yellow Dancer
Last Series: Naruto Part 1 and movies (Three is the best in terms of plot structure and character writing). And yeah, I saw the Filler Hell. Guess what? I. Liked. It. A lot.
Last Movie: Terra Willy. It's actually a animated movie from France that's all about a kid surviving for ten months on an alien planet. Starts off slow but grows. There's no obligatory villain, twist or otherwise, but nature to contend with.
I get that YouTubers need clout and profit so they focus on Disney/Pixar/Sony/etc. but the movies distributed by Kids Viva are honestly some of the best I've seen. Some are clearly "inspired" by Disney but even they blaze their own trail. Check out their catalogue if you hope to broaden your animation horizons if only a bit.
Working on: I'm planning a crossover between Miraculous Ladybug and The Jungle Book (specifically the 1989 Anime adaptation) and a crossover between Digimon Fusion & Fairy Tail with Lisanna Strauss as the lead.
WARNING: My main gallery and faves is SUPER NSFW with every kink imaginable. If you prefer your pure mental image of me to remained unsulied by the reality that people get horny in weird ways, tread carefully.
For now, I'm working on an adaptation of my favorite Pokemon game, Black & White. The player characters are practically premade OCs so developing the personalities of Hilda and her team has been cool (you will love her and Oshawott). I just completed the first story arc (Chapter) so check it out and leave a comment: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14142529/1/Pokemon-Heroes-The-Black-White-Chapter-One

Soni world hopping into other Pokemon AUs was interesting to think and daydream about. But now I'm kind of curious if Phoebe and her Pokemon were transported to Soni's Twisted Wonderland before even going to Twst herself.
Being from Johto, Soni might appreciate the fact that someone from the home region is here to keep her company.
Also someone can relate about Pokemon stuff. Heck, maybe even share memes only people from the Pokemon world would get while the boys are confused as to what they're giggling about.
If the TWST boys ever freak out because another Pokemon trainer was mysteriously summoned again.
Phoebe is more of a neutral sort, she can't threaten Crowley with a baseball bat but she can deliver verbal punches unexpectedly without even meaning to.
Crowley: Miss, if you need any help, I thought you'd consult me instead of the professor...
Phoebe: *Looks between Trein and Crowley* Oh, I thought HE was the headmaster, my mistake...
Crowley: *Hears ego shattering*
Also I bet she just has tea while Soni wrecks Crowley for pushing responsibility towards her again. XD
Also since Soni's twst universe has wild Pokemon appearing, at some point them pokeball smithing skills could come in handy.
Phoebe starts to brandish her skills with a casual face as if this was just the norm.
Also, Phoebe meeting the boys in Soni's Twstverse would probably go like this...
Phoebe: hello...
Boys: just a normal kid- !?
Phoebe: *casually brushing dirt off her Steelix in the yard*
Boys: ajsjj... what- huh..!?!?
sorry if this feels kind of spam-ish.
Oooh, Phoebe going to Soni's world is interesting 👀
While Soni looks Johtonese, she's from Kalos- born and raised there. This sort of thing happens all the time though, so Soni's not gonna be surprised by it if someone thinks that way.
She'll definitely be more surprised by the other Pokemon Trainer who appeared one day.
I love the idea of Soni having time to talk with someone from her homeworld. The memes that they would share- 😂 They would go, "It's an inside joke/meme!" and then just go on with their day.
At the same time, she's slow to interact at first because of her reputation back home and how most don't like to talk to her. So, when she sees Phoebe being cheerful and open without prejudice, Soni would open up a little more if only because the level of expectations and decorum are nonexistent in TWST, one of the few good things that Soni learned about when she first came here.
Phoebe giving those straight punches to Crowley's ego will always be satisfying. Also, her casually showing off her Pokeball-making skills when everyone else thought Phoebe was a normal Trainer is amazing.
Kinda like Phoebe just sticks her hand in her pocket and shows off the tools that she keeps on hand while sparkles are in the background- that level of "Oh, you need a hand? I'm here"
The TWST boys see Phoebe and went through the levels of disbelief, confusion, realization, and even more confusion all at once when the Pokemon shows up alkdsjfkljs
On a random note, Phoebe petting her Steelix makes me think of someone petting a metal cat and I find that cute-
Another one that popped up is Furret sitting on top of Steelix's head and just sunbathing up there, and I just wanted to share that image with you.
Ah, it's alright to send things like this! Don't worry, I like these sorts of things! It's a lot of fun to see what could happen in What Ifs like this!

Bread’s Game Journal 11/10/20: PS4? More Like PS-Bore?  No, The PS4 Actually Is Good As Hell.
Tumblr media
The PS4, the soon to be old generation of Playstation consoles, was one hell of a great system.  It took a little while to get going, and it’s launch lineup wasn’t exactly a strong start, but when you look at the sheer amount of incredible games that came out over the last seven years, you wonder how we ever came across the absurd amount of riches that were the PS4.
Just real quick, let’s list off some of the incredible games that came out on the PS4 shall we?  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, DOOM 2016, Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Last of Us Part 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and so many more that I could genuinely just spend this entire post listing them off.  The point is, the amount of genuine masterpiece video games that released on this thing is nothing short of astounding.
Tumblr media
Special mention, I think, should be made of Uncharted 4 (and by extension it’s expansion pack/follow up Uncharted The Lost Legacy), which is one of my favorite PS4 games in general, and maybe my top game of the generation, but that would be a whole other very long article!
However, before the PS4 really kicked off into its golden age, it had a rougher beginning than i think a lot of people tend to remember.  Coming out of E3 2013, the playing field for the new consoles was set, and Sony was significantly ahead.  Microsoft had badly bungled the messaging behind the Xbox One, and many people still believed that the system level aggressive DRM present on the console in the initial reveal, was still a part of that console experience.  It wasn’t, but crucially, the Xbox One was still perceived by people to be a far weaker console on top of costing $100 more.
Enter Sony, with a PR focus on letting people know that their console was meant to do exactly one thing: play video games.  Even with said focus however, when you look back at the launch lineup of the PS4, you don’t exactly see a very pretty picture.  Yes, you had your smattering of third party support, but the exclusives present for that first day were....Knack and Killzone Shadowfall.  To be fair to Knack, that game is actually decently entertaining, and it’s status as a meme is largely just the internet being weird, but Killzone was bad game, and unless you were eager to run out and buy a marginally better looking (but, and believe me here, no better running) version of Assassin’s Creed 4 or Lego Marvel Super Heroes, you really didn’t have much to play.
Tumblr media
In the end however, I wound up with 88 (Physical) PS4 games before the end of the generation, easily a personal record.
In fact, this drought of good to great games, things that you bought the console for, would continue well into 2014, so what happened to turn it around?  2015 happened. Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Batman Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V, Fallout 4, the list goes on.  Game after game hit the PS4 in 2015, and we finally got to widely see why this new console mattered, why it was different! After that, the quality really didn’t stop or slow up for a very long time!  We just kept having jam packed fall seasons of games that provided us all with extremely great experiences!  While we didn’t quite see as many new IP’s, we saw a lot of the existing ones go through radical reinventions, or roar back to life in ways that we didn’t expect, and the result was almost always surprising in a positive way!
The PS4 didn’t really rock the boat in terms of features, I think the wide aversion to the attempted gimmicks of the PS3 scared Sony away from those, but it did exactly what any great video game console should do first and foremost.  Give us a great place to play video games!  If the PS5 achieves nothing else, I only hope that it continues on the PS4′s streak of consistent quality, because with that alone, I think we’ll all be primed to have a good time.

Munday post
I figured maybe this week I’d do a different type of Munday.  Most of my long time roleplay partners already know me quite a bit and I also try to introduce myself to newer partners as well, however I figured this could be a good chance for everyone to really get to know me.  I’m including everything under a read more not because long post and also because I know not everyone likes seeing this type of thing.  It’s just a bunch of random facts about me and my favorite things along with a munday pic under the cut.  I didn’t want to just throw out a munday picture like most would do.  I’ve done that plenty of times before and there’s nothing wrong with it, I just felt like doing something a bit more unique and different this time that might really give people a chance to get to know me :D
So long post under the cut.
So, first off, my name is Derek.  I’m the mun.  I just recently turned 30 and I’m from Indiana.  I work in a preschool, essentially as a glorified baby sitter.  I help the teachers get their breaks.
I’ve been interacting on here since November of 2013 and I’ve had this exact blog with this exact URL the entire time.  I wanted something really generic and not just a quote or something like that.  I first tried TheEleventhDoctor, but obviously that was taken so this ended up being what I went with.  As for the theme, it too was made a VERY long time ago.  The TARDIS theme with the opening doors on the TARDIS actually used to be quite popular when I first started interacting on here, particularly with the Doctor Who RP fandom.  Although I’m the only one I see with it these days, if you go looking for older Doctor Who blogs that have gone inactive you are actually likely to find a few other blogs with it.  As for the background picture, I found that one myself except for the part with Matt Smith/The Eleventh Doctor edited on.  That part was done by someone I used to interact with who just surprised me with it one day and unfortunately isn’t on Tumblr anymore :(  Having been on this platform for so long I’ve obviously seen a lot of blogs come and go and I miss every single last one of them :(  However I also enjoy everyone I currently interact with and would recommend almost any of them.  Seriously, if anyone is looking for new people to interact with, let me know you are looking for people and what fandoms you enjoy and I can probably recommend a few blogs!
Outside of Tumblr RP, I enjoy video games, yugioh, reading comics, general super hero related stuff, watching movies, playing Pokemon Go (I help run the local PoGo community) general board games, watching my shows, figure collecting, and cosplay, most of which I’m sure is stuff many of you also enjoy.  My fandoms include Doctor Who (obviously), DC, Star Wars, The Legend of Korra/ATLA (I’m one of the few that likes LoK more than ATLA), Marvel, Star Trek, Firefly, Power Rangers, The Walking Dead, Yugioh, Pokemon, Sherlock, general Nintendo fandom, Digimon and Harry Potter.
Here’s a few things about me in list form.
My favorite musician is Weird Al Yankovic.
My favorite book is Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robbison.  As someone who’s been diagnosed with aspergers syndrome myself, this book really spoke to me in my original read through and since then I’ve purchased it multiple times.  I own at least three or four different copies of this book, partially because I kept loaning it out to people.
My favorite book series is the Harry Potter series.  Don’t ask me for a favorite book in the series, I love them all about equally.
As for comics, right now my favorite thing I’m reading is the Power Rangers series that Boom is putting out.  Some of my favorites of all time include Power Ranger Soul of the Dragon, the Star Trek TNG/Doctor Who crossover, the Power Rangers/Justice League Crossover, the original Spider-Gwen series, Poison Ivy Cycle of Life and Death, The Dark Knight Returns (I know anything Frank Miller related is a bit controversial but I enjoy it for what it is) and Batman: Hush.
Favorite movies include UHF, Scott Pilgrim VS the World, Captain America The Winter Soldier, Captain America the First Avenger, Avengers End Game, the Justice League movie, anything and everything DC animated, anything and everything Spider-Man related (yes, I even like Spider-Man 3 although it wasn’t as good as the others), anything Star Wars related although I’d say Force Awakens is my favorite one, the 2017 Power Rangers movie, Serenity, The Lego movie and it’s sequel, Yugioh Bonds Beyond Time, Mystery Men, Galaxy Quest, all the Star Trek movies, the corny 90′s Mario movie, the Doctor Who movie, and Detective Pikachu.  Really, any of the Marvel and DC movies could probably make this list as well, I’m not super picky when it comes to movies.
Favorite TV shows is something I am a bit pickier about.  Doctor Who is obviously on the list, and I’ve watched and enjoyed most of the Marvel and DC live action stuff although I have a huge preference for the arrowverse and 70′s Wonder Woman.  Animated stuff tends to vary but a lot of the older stuff from the early and mid 90′s seems to be best for that.  Power Rangers is obviously on the list as well, along with The Walking Dead, Digimon, Avatar the Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Sherlock, Yugioh, Firefly, and off the top of my head that’s about it.  Everyone always assumes I’m huge into anime as well, but I’m not actually that into it.  Just not my thing.
Now video games has potential to be my longest list as it’s easily my favorite medium of story telling due to the interactivity.  First off, Nintendo and Playstation are my general consoles of choice.  Nothing against Xbox, I have a lot of respect for the brand but I can’t really afford to have three consoles (even though I wish I could) and Nintendo and Sony have more offerings for me personally.  I also do dabble on PC a bit, but I don’t really have a high end PC and it’s mostly just for Sims.  That being said, my favorite games and game series include Watch_Dogs, The Sims, Mario (mostly the “main series,” 3D games and 2D platformers but I do enjoy some of the off series stuff like Mario Kart and Mario Party as well) , Pokemon, Super Smash Brothers, The Force Unleashed series, Injustice, most of the Spider-Man games, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, most of the Batman games, Wario Ware, The Last of Us (still haven’t played the sequel yet.  Waiting to get it for cheap after seeing reviews), Days Gone, Control, Horizon Zero Dawn, No Man’s Sky, 51 Worldwide Classics for Switch, No Man’s Sky, the Tony Hawk Games (still haven’t played the new one yet), Time Splitters, The Movies, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Zombies Ate My Neighbhors, Kirby, The Legend of Korra game (the 3d one, not the really bad one for 3DS), Donkey Kong, Street Fighter 2, Punch Out, Metal Gear Solid 5 the Phantom Pain, Sonic Heroes, and the list could go on and on.
My favorite drink is root beer or chocolate milkshakes if that counts
My favorite alcoholic drink is probably just a basic screwdriver tbh
My favorite food is Cheeseburgers, although Chicken Pot Pie is also a top contender tbh
My favorite color is green
My favorite Doctor is Eleventh obviously, but Thirteen, Two and Twelve are tied for second
Favorite companions are Amy, River (if she counts), and Donna
Favorite New Who episode is The Eleventh Hour
Favorite Classic Who story is Genesis of the Daleks
Since I’ve mentioned super heroes a lot, my favorites are Batman, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man, although Supergirl, Batgirl, Captain America, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow are also pretty high on the list.
Favorite game in the Pokemon series is X and Y
Dragonite is my favorite Pokemon
Favorite 3D Mario game is Odyssey although Sunshine would be next up on the list.
This is my only Tumblr RP blog.  I also have an ask meme blog and I used to have a personal but I haven’t logged onto it in years.
I’m on discord and I do add people from Tumblr on there, but I mostly only use it for Pokemon Go tbh
I spend every Wednesday and Sunday at the local comic book shop playing Yugioh
For anyone wondering in relation to that last fact, my current competitive deck Barrier Stun.  Some of my favorite casual decks that I play or have played in the past are Lightsworn, Blue-Eyes, E-Heroes, Greed, Sacred Beasts, Penguins and Six Samurai.
In the last decade I’ve moved about 3 times
I own pets!  I have one dog and one cat currently, but a few years back when we lived in a more country like setting, we owned 7 cats and 2 dogs at maximum.  Most of them died of old age over the last few years.
Before my current job I used to work at Walmart.  Long time followers of the blog may remember that I hated it there.
I don’t have a whole lot of writing experience outside of Tumblr tbh.  While I do enjoy writing on here, it’s the interactions itself that makes it fun for me and while I’ve tried to write a few things myself, it’s just not the same as roleplay.
Anyway, I just sort of wanted to do something different for munday besides just posting pictures of myself so I hope anyone who read this enjoyed it.  Here’s a pic of the mun to go with it.

I heard a rumor that Doc Strange 2 is basically the gateway to the other franchises. X-Men, Deadpool, F4, Sony MCU, etc... the leak said it may be possible that old characters could come back, just from a different Earth. So... TECHNICALLY Tony with a metal arm is possible, albeit unlikely.
Aw man, I’ve heard some crazy ideas about DS2 (mostly from Raimi fans making Spider-Man memes). It’d be cool to see some callbacks or references to the comics!
Real talk though, I doubt we’ll get any Tony in it, however much I’d love to see him again. They’ve said that if there’s an RDJ cameo in another Marvel movie, there’ll have to be strong significance for it, and I can’t see them building that up within the context of one movie. But imagine!!

My Top 5 Games of the Past Generation Youtube Script Plus Notes
This is, more or less, the script for My Top 5 Games of the Past Generation video that I just published on Youtube: With the Xbox One and Playstation Four about to head out of the door to make ways for the Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5 respectively to lead us into the next generation of consoles were only Nintendo has been sitting comfortably with the Switch, the Wii U has been long gone and Nintendo also recently announced the official end of the Nintendo 3DS line cutting all the ties to this last generation.  With that almost everyone is now releasing their lists of the best games of the current generation, myself included, I couldn't help but notice a lot of same-soundy lists such as Game Informer's top 5 list.  I myself have to disagree with these, not to say that any and/or all five of those games on Game Informer's Top 5 aren't good, important or worth playing just that I don't think they are the best representative of this generation in terms of impact and wide appeal, so much as had the most money backing them. That these games on the list are more the best representative of the biggest Triple A titles.  The games that I had in mind are more impactful on how this generation swayed and set new standards.  I want you to keep in mind that while I liked some of these games, these aren't my personal top 5 of the past generation either but I think closer to what best represents our closing era of gaming, when I say the “best games of the current generation.”
First off I'd like to make an honorable mention of PT.  PT or playable trailer was supposed to be a demo for the new Silent Hill S game that unfortunately never came to be for the Playstation 4 from Konami.  A joint venture between film director Guillermo del Toro and the famous creator of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, this demo spooked the pants off of everyone and was probably the reason a lot of people decided to buy a Playstation 4.  Unfortunately Konami let Hideo Kojima go under less than favorable conditions and the demo vanished with him in time.  Since then the immersive, first person perspective horror game demo changed the landscape of what survival horror could be.  We then saw Resident Evil VII by Capcom, the Park by Funcom, Layers of Fear by Aspyr and Death Standing by Hideo Kojima's new studio Kojima Productions that were all heavily influenced by PT (this point made more obvious for Hido Kojima's Death Stranding) and the future of Survial Horror / Suspense games seems to be headed there with upcoming games like Resident Evil VIII: The Village.  The only reason this isn't officially on the list is because, well, it was sadly never a game but its influence was too important for me not to mention.
Number 5: Sonic Mania.  Ok so Sonic Mania isn't anything new but it is very important in the sense that it is a major franchise, Sonic, by a well established publisher, Sega, and they had officially given the keys of Mobius to the fandom to make a new game and it was fantastic. While that's oversimplying things a bit errr a lot, since Sega just didn't come out of the blue offering that opportunity.  Rather Sega saw a Sonic game pitched by Christian Whitehead, aka Taxman, who worked on porting previous ports of Sonic games to Mobile platforms. Why I think it is important is that this validating the bridge between fandom and passion projects in world where game hacks and fangames are traditionally shut down almost immediately after gaining the slightest attention.  While Sonic Mania isn't a fangame, its roots were deep from the Romhack community.  This represents cracking the door between what the fandom produces and what the corporate offices allow being available to consumers in a world were popular fangames and hacks result in cease and desist orders - which is why I think is very important to put Sonic Mania as the number 5 game of this console generation.
Number 4: Rocket League.  As of today, Rocket League is a now free to play game for better or for worse.  Rocket League is high-octane fun, blasting balls across various courts and fields such as basketball and football with fast automobiles but what it is most well known for is basically soccer with cars.  Rocket League is a lot of fun to play and has a large audience of  in the streaming and esports field which would be reason enough to put this game in a top 5 but what this game marks maybe even more importantly is cross console online play. While other games have and do continue to have online play across systems, back in March of 2016 Microsoft was very interested in allowing online play between Xbox One and other consoles them being extremely hopeful for Playstation 4 in particular, however Sony was holding out.  Sony was hesitant, citing their emphasis on providing a certain quality online experience but finally came to the party and in 2019 you could finally play Rocket League online with all your friends whether it be on PC, Xbox One, Switch, or Playstation 4. Since then we have had other games slowly roll out this feature such as Wargroove and the trend seems to be expanding.  I hope to see all games adopt this in the future and since Rocket League “birthed” this concept coming to the table for cross console online play for us all to enjoy, this is why I think Rocket League deserves the number 4 slot.
Number 3: Bloodborne/Dark Souls III.  This past generation and hell even to some extent decade, spanning to the PS3/Xbox 360, has lead us to compare every challenging game that comes out to Dark Souls.  Cuphead is the Dark Souls of run and gun shooters, Dead Cells is the Dark Souls of Metroidvanias, Celeste is the Dark Souls of platformers, etc.  While the meme of “X is like the Dark Souls of” is hard to find a concrete start, according to Google Trends this first seemed to spike in April of 2015 around the release of Bloodborne, the PS4 game created by FromSoftware.  While not technically a Dark Souls game, it was made by the same team and the game play and feel is very Dark Souls in the sense that I feel the phrase is used today, in contrast to the first two Dark Souls games.  Then we can see that in/and around October 2017 the trend has risen to its peak a little after a year and a half of the release of Dark Souls III.  While this justification may seem more flimsy and ultimately the Dark Souls brand was established in 2011, I do think Bloodborne/Dark Souls III is more in the zeitgeist, if you will, of the “X is like Dark Souls” comparison that has shaped the conversation of so many games today.
Number 2: Undertale.  Undertale is perhaps the darling of this generation. A game chock full of charm with multiple ways to approach it.  Will you save everyone, sacrifice everyone, or something in-between?  This game does look next gen, current gen or even comparable to past gen games until you hit perhaps the SNES or even late NES.  Maybe a number 2 spot is too high on list – this game didn't revolutionize the industry in ways that the other games on this list did nor was it the first anti-RPG of its kind, that would probably go to MOON, but Undertale just had such a powerful impact on gamers when it came out and became so unforgettable.  I feel like Undertale will be a game that we remember for a long time and to not include it in this list because its an indie game would be a real tragedy which segways me to my number 1 game.
Number 1: Shovel Knight.  Shovel Knight is the indie game that, I think, lead to the current boom of retro inspired indie games we have been enjoying.  A love letter to the NES games of the past such as Castlevania, Mega Man and Ducktales to name a few.  Shovel Knight wasn't the first retro inspired indie games but I feel like the attention to detail in trying to stay as true to what the hardware could run in terms of look, color, sound and pixel art with its overwhelming success showed that there was a market for these type of games.  Its success kickstarter in 2013 also showed that Kickstarter could be used as a viable platform to create indie games for a wider audience without having to rely on that Triple A model of good gaming synonymous with big budget corporate funding.  I firmly believe that we wouldn't have the great retro inspired games like Celeste and Dead Cells or the Kickstarter'd Yooka Laylee and Bloodstained or games that did both like Blasphemous if it wasn't for the hard-work and ingenuity that Yacht Club Games paved with Shovel Knight.
To use a popular Youtube cliché to conclude this list, “At the end of the day” I didn't make this list to put Game Informer or anyone's personal preferences down.  If you believe that they got the Top 5 games of the decade right that's perfectly ok and valid too, to have as your opinion.  I also want to reiterate that those five games – The Last of Us Part II, the Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Zelda Breath of the Wild and God of War are all important to this generation coming to a close as well in their own way.  While this list isn't my favorite games of the past generation, maybe I'll do that in the future, they are my subjective “best games list” of the past generation for what I think they did to the industry and you are free to agree, disagree, pick and choose between my list and Game Informers list or make a completely different list of your own.  I'm personally excited to see what the future of gaming has for us in this coming generation and optimistic for what's both around the corner and late into the next systems' life-cycle.  Happy gaming to you however you play.

Hideo Kojima flawlessly predicted “Fake News”, degradation of Social Memes (scientific context), and the stagnation and violence of the individual versus the mob in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty under a producer with censorship blocks with a multitude of other writers and roadblocks. Almost 2 decades ago, he predicted all of it in one of the most scary, eye opening sequences in gaming history.
Kojima is now working with no outside producer, Sony is letting him run wild. He owns his own company with a blank check and Death Stranding is under so many wraps that no-one dares to even try and leak it.
Kojima is gonna do it to us.

A Delayed Topic: Budgets in Video Games
I’m naked in my Japan dorm eating Pocky, yet I’m disappointed in myself. Not because of my current activities, but because in waiting (really working on other projects) to write my article on mid-tier budgets I missed the boat before other big-name video game people sailed off on it. Nonetheless, it’s a topic I’ve had on my mind for a while now, and to scrap the project just because some other people have tackled it would be silly. So without further ado, I present to you my thoughts and hope for video game budgets going forward (though of course whatever I have to say will have little influence on what publishers do).
A while ago, my brother and I got into a heated discussion over the price of video games. He believes sixty dollars is too high a price for a newly released game, while (though of course I’d much rather pay less) I find it to be a fair price. However, for any readers ready to judge my spending habits, I should remark that I only buy perhaps one or two new games a year (in actuality, I haven’t bought a newly-released game in 2018). It takes a game a fair amount of effort to win me over enough to drop money on launch; the best way for a game to earn goodwill is to be created by a developer that has a good track record. While some people find this habit (that of buying games from trusted developers) as a risk not worth taking, I have only been truly upset over maybe one new game purchase in my life (that honor goes to Mass Effect 3). In my experience, that game has stopped me from not only waiting to buy future Bioware titles but has stopped me from buying them altogether. In the long run, I believe the customers’ (not as individuals but as a collective) happiness will determine whether a developer will succeed or fail. That being said, it isn’t stopping publishers from doing everything in their power to fight that reality. There’s only so much we can say about predatory practices in video games. At their core, these practices are forced into a game with little consideration for how it affects the mechanics or overall flow: The majority of modern AAA games are designed to make money, nothing else.
The question is not “does the price of the game reflect its quality?” Video games are art, and, with no malice, if a painting can sell for millions I don’t see why video games can’t do the same. That might seem like I’m arguing against my point, but I’m not. For us to consider games a form of art, we need to reconsider how we view the cost of that art, and the cost of art is not solely determined by the work put into producing it.
Take Battlefront II for example, by technical merits it is quite the achievement and all the detail packed into it must have taken the developers countless time to create, yet I wouldn’t consider paying over ten dollars for it because, as a customer, the experience on offer is not one I value greatly. On the other hand, if the asking price for Drakengard 3 had been eighty dollars, I would’ve at least considered it. I don’t believe this is how most people think of games, despite having often heard claims that people would’ve spent two hundred dollars on Skyrim if they could (although given the recent controversies concerning Fallout 76 that might’ve been a bad idea, too). Most people make such claims with one particular game when they have become infatuated with it (someone might make that argument for me), but I think the scope of this lens should be broadened to every game we consider purchasing.
Of course, we need to consider the mass-marketed and laborious nature of video games. Visual art like painting and photography can afford to have higher prices precisely because they are limited in quantity. In addition, video games take countless hours from multiple people through different departments, and they all need to be compensated somehow. No developer should expect to work for free (that said, practices like crunch time which recently got brought up again for Red Dead Redemption 2 still occur), and I am all for making sure they get their fair share.
However, a significant chunk of a big games budget is spent on marketing the game, with less than a majority fraction going to actual development, and this trend is only growing. While I understand the importance of giving your game a good amount of coverage, the fact that more money is spent letting people know a game exists rather than ensuring the quality is a recipe for mediocrity, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. I want to give the video game industry the benefit of the doubt and believe the goal is to create a product worthy of the consumer’s money, but trends like massive marketing budgets and locking in game items on the grounds of player choice speaks more to the capitalist perversion of the craft. It might sound like I’m taking video games too seriously, but I believe we are seeing a shift in the industry that is going to change the way video games take risks, and I would argue in a manner that is ultimately limiting the artistic possibilities of the medium.
With budgets as inflated as they are, these projects can’t fail. I don’t mean fail the way publishers mean fail, wherein they expected a decent game to become the next Call of Duty or where only a couple million sales means the investors didn’t make the massive profits they expected (though still made a profit). Big budget games are less likely to try out new and experimental ideas because more often than naught consumers want something they know rather than new mechanics or odd stories. While this has always been the case to some degree, games like Metal Gear Solid 2 are less likely to be created today than they were two console generations ago. Ironically enough, Death Stranding is looking to be such an experience and the only reason it’s able to do this is because the game is being designed as a console exclusive, which Sony banks on selling more consoles than actual units (in the sense that the game might sell a couple million but many of those buyers will probably get one of their consoles just to play it). Games like Bloodborne are meant to give people a reason to own a console by pushing that system as the only means to get such an experience (in some sense it matters less how that game sells). Of course, Sony is expecting a Hideo Kojima exclusive to sell very well, but they are still taking a huge risk by giving him a good amount of money considering the kind of experience it seems to be (at this point, a story-based open world exploration (admittedly this is not the most unique general premise but the story seems to suggest otherwise)). We could never expect a publisher like EA or Ubisoft to take such a risk, though to give them credit they do bankroll much smaller games that tend to mechanically and narratively experiment more than the Battlefields and the Assassin’s Creeds that give EA the profits to test things out on a smaller scale.
It might sound like I’m giving these larger publishers some slack, but I think this approach is still rather tamed and limiting the possibilities video games have. I don’t see this setup of high-budget-destined-for-profit games to pay for the experimental smaller games as giving the most variety of gameplay and narratives. I think it’s better than only big budget games, but these other projects tend to be closer to indie games, which, though they have their place in video games, have to be limited in scope and technical prowess in order to exist. For example, Undertale is an amazing game that I’m glad exists, but imagine what Toby Fox could do if he had a couple million to spend rather than fifty thousand. These are the experiences lacking in the industry, multi-million dollar budgets with the heart and mindset of an independent project. This isn’t to say such experiences don’t exist at all, but that I believe they offer the best compromise between publisher greed and developer freedom. While this might have already been expected, I’m going to talk about how Drakengard 3 is close to an example of such a product.
While full of plenty of flaws and lackluster gameplay elements, the entirety of the Drakengard/Nier series is enjoyed on a cult level because it offers something that is hard to find in other games: that is, a balls to the wall crazy story that, for the sake of the memes, really makes you think. I find the lore of the series interesting, but I mainly play them because they offer stories that for once give me a chance to reflect on my own perspective and have me consider why I believe what I believe. Yes, games like that exist elsewhere, but there is a specific type of craziness and intrigue that comes with these games that I have yet to see replicated in other series (by all means, feel free to mention some). Back to Drakengard 3 in particular, I’ve already talked about why I believe the final boss is one of the best moments I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. Such an ending risks alienating countless players, and it’s the kind of choice you’d probably never see attempted in today’s AAA titles because it’s far too risky. However, you’d also never find it in an entirely independent project, because they lack the funds to even try and attempt an ending of that scope. For that reason, I believe the AA (a couple million, maybe ten or twenty million at most), offer the best space for games that want to push the artistic bounds of the video game medium.
One argument to be made against this proposal is the fear that such games won’t have the level of polish present in higher budget titles. While this can be true, it doesn’t account for what the reality was two generations ago. Games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Silent Hill 2 (it just seems like the second game is always the best of a series) were expensive in their day, but even their budgets look small in comparison to what’s being spent on games today. While the graphical prowess of AAA games has increased vastly since then, do modern games come across as mechanically or narratively more engaging than two generations ago? I tend to think not, though games like Nier: Automata give me hope that interesting narratives can still be constructed and built upon in a world of higher budgets. Nier is by no means a high budget game, but it costs more than anything an independent studio is able to muster, while at the same time turning a profit for their publisher and bringing their developer from the brink of death. All while giving players an enjoyable and engaging game.
There’s been the idea floating around that games need to cost more than $60. The rising costs of video games is the main culprit, proponents of an increased price say, however I want to lay blame on the consumer for a moment. Gamers appreciate flashy graphics, and these graphics don’t come cheap. It makes sense for publishers to make certain elements of a game top priority if players demonstrate that these features are the sort of things they want to see. Most consumers want more of the same, yet love to complain that every game is trying to be the next [insert current leading genre here]. Players flock to these games, at least enough to allow publishers and developers to make a quick buck off of making such a game.
More than any other artistic medium, video games are highly iterative, which can be to its advantage at times. However, as a result trends take awhile before they die, and in that time there will be countless games of a popular genre that take up time, money, and space from games that are doing different things. Consider how many forgotten first person shooters existed last generation, consider how many forgotten open world games exist this generation. Now imagine the countless battle royal games that are either out or coming out in the future. All of those games devote resources away from a potentially game-changing project. I’m losing focus a little bit, but it’s worth remembering that the problem is not merely concerned with budgets.
In order to give players what they want, publishers and developers have to find monetization methods to make these games and make a profit for their investors, for whom (unfortunately) the creation of big budget games is often times merely a profit-driven endeavor. Money has always driven the creation of art, and only recently crowdfunding and other supportive methods have taken off. However, the vast majority of the population isn’t rich enough to support multiple games with thousands of dollars like some of these investors can, so until then this method of game production will persist. Since players are (rightfully) against a flat price increase of video games, we’ve seen growing use of microtransactions and lootbox systems that, as anyone should know, do not justify the cost of what they give but rather subsidize the other costs of the game. Players buy these microtransactions, and in some cases the overall amount spent on in-game microtransactions have earned a company more money than other games or even the game its sold within. Publishers know this, which perpetuates the cycle of spending more money on marketing to ensure they can get enough whales that will sink a ton of money into the game so they can make their profit regardless.
The saddest part about the current situation is that it might not even be enough to “vote with your wallet” as is often repeated, because most players don’t engage with these monetization practices, but those who do engage in such a way that it’s worth it for the company to alienate a vocal minority of their players in favor of exploit the small amount of players who will pay to play. A complete boycott of these games might not be enough to convince publishers to change their monetization methods. At this point, they know how much money they can make through the nickle-and-dime processes that even if games had a higher starting price it would hardly incentivize them to drop it altogether. Given the number of deluxe and super deluxe editions many games release with which only give access to maybe a few other missions and cosmetics for a quarter of the cost of the real game, some might argue is already the case.
Why did I bother writing all this if the outlook appears black. I’m certain no developer will ever read this, and given my general reach on this site is minimal at best, it’s very unlikely that this will get any traction that leads to some grander change. Still, I find it important for people to see and understand why games are monetized the way they do, and in this instance the burden is on the consumer to inform publishers the kinds of experiences we want to see. I’m fully aware that what I want from video games is not what other people want to see; if it was, then there would be no reason for me to make this post. But I do find the experiences I want lacking, and I believe more AA budgets will give the best range for those types of experiences that will push gaming in a new direction. It is not the Red Dead Redemption 2’s of the industry that will revolutionize gaming, but the smaller, humbler experiences that will shape the artistic future of games to come.
There is still much room for video games to develop as a medium. Whether it’s in traditionally controlled games or virtual reality experiences, there is still plenty for us to learn and develop how the immense amount of player-controlled interactions influence the final product. Expensive-to-make games cannot afford to fully explore these bounds, making them the least opportune avenue to expand, reshape, or break how we understand player interactivity in an artistic sense. While there are developers who do push bounds on higher budgets, most do nothing that hasn’t already been done (sometimes even better) by a project on a lower budget. I guess what I really want to say is that I want something to challenge me and my understanding of player agency as much as the Drakenier series, and I doubt it will be something that cost over fifty million that will change that.
P.S. I understand that what I seek for the future of games, whether narratively or mechanically, is not necessarily the priority of other players, let alone publishers and developers. Perhaps in the future I’ll go more into what I look for in video games, and why I enjoy playing the games that I do.

death stranding
ghosts of tsushima
babylon’s fall
skull and bones
smash 4 switch
where the fuck is
serious sam 4
wonderful 101 switch port
ace combat 7
quake champions release date
EA: it was fucking nothing
Microsoft: had arguably the best showing this year solely because of the sheer amount of multiplatform games shown off. the DMC5 reveal stole it for me, and i was never bored between games that much. lots of neat stuff throughout the conference. what the fuck is halo infinite. why did anyone think a funko pop gear mobile game was something anyone wanted. it was at the very least entertaining.
Bethesda: i came for one thing and one thing only: a sequel to new doom. they show me doom eternal. i am satisfied. besides that, bethesda had a neat lineup. the andrew wk thing was fucking hilarious. getting deets for fallout 76 was good, the TES phone mobile game is at the very least interesting. i’m still not interested in rage 2, but i’ll probably play it eventually anyway. starfield could be cool, and i’m glad TESVI is a thing.
Devolver: expected a meme, got a meme. i was really hoping they would show off more games (LIKE FUCKING SERIOUS SAM 4), but getting metal wolf chaos is an ok trade off.
Square Enix: it was fucking nothing
Ubisoft: i missed the first 20 minutes of the conference because of work, tuned in to see a guy ride a minibike to the stage and then destroy a podium. the new trials game looks good, i might actually pick it up eventually. the pirate game might be neat, but we’ll see. nothing else they showed was interesting to me. i’ve given up on ever liking assassin’s creed ever again.
PC Gaming Show: yakuza on pc was a nice surprise, even if they have denuvo drm tied to them. rest of it was a shitshow. i spent more time workshopping jokes in the discord voice channel then actually watching the show. long like the drake duck
Sony: the first half was a shitshow. i do not and will never give a shit about TLOU so the entire first part of the show was boring. guy on a banjo followed by an extremely scripted sequence of gameplay followed by 30 minutes of stalling on stream before they show the next game. thanks to audio issues on the streams, it killed the impact of ghosts of tsushima’s gameplay reveal. the rest of the show was okay i guess. RE2make looks fucking baller and spiderman looked better than it did last year. death stranding was neat to see but that just needs to come out already. i don’t remember anything else.
Nintendo: i seriously, legitimately would have bought a switch right then and there if they had showed wonderful 101 during this direct. but they didn’t. instead, new mario party and fire emblem! whee. smash 4.5 ft. ALL THE WARRIORS was cool to see. i appreciate snake being back. still not buying a switch until i see wonderful 101.

My scores for E3, because apparently now i’m a dumb 4channer who thinks this /v/ meme shit matters, like it’s not gonna affect sales or anything it’s pointless as all hell [this is lenghy, but hear me out ok]
EA:
4/10 - people will probably play the games regardless of how shitty this presentation was but... It felt pretty insulting.
Battlefield V is probably gonna make a lot of money regardless cuz people like war games and it seems pretty well done, the more footage they have shown seemed better than their weird advertizement that made world war 2 seem very wacky, which honestly regardless if you’re a sexist neckbeard or not, seemed like a poor advertizement move.
TinyBuild:
No one watched this lol and it was just 1 GAME and a fun cute musical that made people who aren’t strong enough to musicals die, 6/10 because it made nerds die and their song is catchy, i dont really care about their 1 game.
Microsoft:
9/10 - I'm giving this much of a high score because I would play practically almost all of these games showcased (they’ll probably be available on PC which I’m biased for cuz I have a gaming PC), no kidding, I pretty much liked everything I saw and it was fairly straight to the point. Many gamers don’t appreciate the finer details of each game and think they’re generic but that’s just fanboys who haven’t played a single game outside of their favorites.
Also my cousin uses those Xbox One netflix rip offs that gives you games so i’m happy for him. The presentation had a lot of diamonds in the rough games that will I will probably appreciate more over time (they might even become cult classics like Metro or Dying Light) than any of other games at other e3s. As for the stuff I won’t be playing: It’s mostly harmless so eh.
There was an abundance of trailers! It was like one after the other, pure goodness, it seems as if they left out all of the Sports games to EA to present and the only thing they showed that might not be anyone’s cup of tea was “Forza”, but honestly? I appreciate it, it seems like a good racing game even if I’m not one to buy racing games.... But the more you think about the number of good games presented, the less you’ll think about that, I mean they showed DEVIL MAY CRY 5!!!
...The Funko Pop game made me scream though.
Bethesda:
8.5/10  I cannot deny that these are games I will want to play regardless if they’re good or not. Sad to see nerds not enjoy the opportunity to meet ANDREW W.K. but I’m glad all of the divisions they own are making sequels to stuff I already like, so pretty much Bethesda played it safe.
Devolver Digital:
8/10 It’s like that one b-movie film your college students made and you had a laugh with creating.
Square Enix:
5/10 seriously, 30 minues of just trailers? Most of which we saw?? I guess it could be worse but who uses E3 screentime for mostly MMORPG deals! The new stuff was too vague to be excited about too.
Ubisoft:
7/10 - I liked it when they made funny quirky things and their games are probably gonna be okay like usual, Ubisoft has dedicated fans that like their collectathon games they release every year, and it’s usually that one game you play when you’re bored and got nothing else, it’s okay.
Gamers hate fun and dancing and all that stuff but I kind of find stuff like that exciting, while nerds who never went outside and who are sensitive as all hell to any representation of fun find it “cringey”. A panda dabbed, and that settles it, Ubisoft was the only E3 Brave enough to dab this year.
PC Game Conference (it was fairly long):
I know none of you watch this one cuz y’all fake as hell but listen... Fuck you LOL, these are the type of games people actually play over 400 hours and really get people’s money. Like these are games built to last that might be on the best-selling Steam front page for MONTHS, like how Frostpunk was comfirmed last year during this conference, PC Gaming has been known for sleeper hits that nobody knows about (because the attention goes to cinematic experiences on consoles most of the time) but suddently everyone’s playing it.
PC gaming has always been an alternative lifestyle and seeing as many people didn’t watch this one, that just proves the point that it still relatively alternative. Maybe it’s because everyone sounds dumb as fuck when saying “PC GAMER MASTER RACE” and acting like an elitist.
The PC Gaming conference is always more of a talk show than a regular E3 which is why I respect it every year, fuck the hyperactive gamers that just wanna see flashy trailers, this one’s more SOPHISTICATED!! It feels a lot more human and less artificial. Either way, lot’s of what you might’ve expected: Simulators and Survival games you’ll probably spend 3 years playing until they make a better minecraft clone.
Gamers like to act as if they’re tired of Battle Royale (already? It’s a new fad it still is here to stay for a little more) but the numbers and success of it doesn’t lie that it isn’t a fad that proves itself to be highly tempting to try out for developers. Go cry to valve that they didn’t release Half-Life 3 cuz you haven’t played any other FPS game without even researching that Valve pretty much fired all of it’s developers and you’re just being annoying.
I feel as if I need to comment what I saw at this e3 cuz nobody watched, they made a mod I liked from skyrim into a fully-ass game, they’re rebooting Star Control which not a single gamer today knows of, the HP Lovecraft open world detective game also seems very good. YAKUZA IS COMING TO PC!!!!!!!!! Killing Floor 2 stuff, Road Redemption stuff, SHARK RPG, cute indie games, Jeff Goldblum was there, Wall-E with a gun in VR which seems to have promissing good vr design by Insomiac games (yes the spyro people), 2 games about Taxi driving... Like sure I think it’s a good format for story telling but.
A cell-shaded art game, star citizen is still being made, and it’s gone to the point nobody really wants it anymore even if it’s... Still being made you know? So most guys are wrong that it was gonna be canceled. After that was the technical graphic card stuff which gamers don’t have enough capability to understand, stuff like 9k laptops that SELL a lot mind you. Rich people love that technical stuff.
A space defense sim game, Don’t Starve Sequel, Just Cause 4 detailed explanation of the engine, Overkill’s The Walking Dead gameplay which has been in development hell for years now now has a release date, I discovered Clementine’s voice actor is white... Go figure, a literal pixelated roguelike (not what you think it is, it’s Noita),
Theme Hospital REBOOT!!!! YES!!!!!!!!! And the doctors were cute. Probably one of the funniest games presented... Followed by REALM ROYALE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That harvest moon clone with a cute art style is still being made: Ooblets, no release date sadly. Anno is still going, cyanide and happiness still exists? and they’re making a battle royale? lol okay. How was Hitman 2 not announced during Square Enix?? Anyways it’s here at the end, the trailer was amazing and it’s coming out this year.
Tumblr media
I don’t have that much strong feelings because it’s just a normal conference and not a special one you know? But I’ll give it a 8/10 or 7/10 im not sure cuz I seem to like most games and I found Frankie cute.
Sony:
Yo usually Sony makes like a huuuuuuuge thing about their conferences (like this year they didn’t even showcase indie games) but this year they started from a church for the sake of immersion?? It reminded me a little of their first E3s during the 90s, and it almost felt like a indie gathering for musicians, I swear to god, Sony is borderline experimental trying to balance out their E3 across stages. Jeb played the banjo and people just ACCEPTED it... AND THEN someone played some JAPANESE FLUTE? aRT. It might come off as a bit arrogant for some tho.
Nerds hated it and thought it was bizzare, which is why it means it’s good. HAPPY PRIDE MONTH BITCHES. Anyways could have been a little more fast-paced... But then again when it was fast-paced it was just like: Huh? What was that? I’m a big Resident Evil Fangirl, RE2 was my childhood but ignoring that for a sec: finally, Death Stranding gameplay, remins me of shadow of the colossus but post-apocalpytic, survival horrorish and abstract sci-fi.
Kind of feels more Metal Gear than MGSV did already Cuz Norman Reedus sounds like snake a lot more than the 24 hours guy, and because from what I’ve seen in the footage, someone acts like Otacon to “Sam”. I think most now can figure out the plotpoints of this game with what has been established. I might be a bit sad at the fact that this will be a PS4 exclusive just like Metal Gear Solid 4, which I still haven’t played fully because it’s PS3 exclusive and I only have a gaming PC.
Also this E3 was surprisingly entirely SINGLE PLAYER, I sorta don’t believe in the “single player doesn’t exist” myth honestly, especially now. I’m not sure if that makes Sony’s E3 better or worse, maybe it needed more variation, like I’ve commented, usually they have an indie showcase which this year did not. There were few games shown but for what it was worth, it’s still interesting... But yeah just 5 games? No Spyro? (easy picking), nothing extra? I can understand why many people felt this E3 was upsetting.
8/10.
Nintendo
Here it is, the most overhyped developer of all of E3, the source of “Nintendo wins E3 by doing nothing” memes because Nintendo fans really don’t care about anything except Nintendo and then act surprised when they only care about Nintendo when they try to be a little more open-minded (and fail) even if other E3s probably make more games built to last in comparisson, cuz we gay people only care about NINTENDO YOU KNOW? Shade asside...
I was pleasantly surprised this E3, it wasn’t just a series of okay at best releases, a strong 9/10.
tHAT WAS WHAT I WROTE IN PREPRATION....
BUT THEN???? IT WAS JUST THAT??? NO PRIME 4 NO ANYTHING LIKE JUST 3 GAMES BASICALLY? (maybe there was 5 games but eh) I mean smash is good.. It’s pretty much just an update of the last smash, every character is REALLY FUCKING GOOD BUT.... JUST THAT? jeez.. Like, the only stuff I wanted from it was Mario Party and Smash... Okay maybe that 1 Mecha game. Also I guess fornite is now on Switch but I can play that anywhere else really.
I guess a 7/10 is all I can give to just Smash, if there was a little more I’d give it a 9/10 for sure but... ehh Just Smash? jeez, fuck... i MEAN I kind of get it, Nintendo doesn’t do “e3″ normally, they usually do 1 big game at E3 and then wait a couple of months to do that little seasonal announcement thing they do across the year, ugh.. Okay. Yeah I guess i shouldn’t have expected much. Still isn’t it weird that Miyamoto was in Ubisoft’s E3 but not this one??? what!
Anyways
