Thomi: A celestial bunny, a rare Milkmon that bestows good fortune and a full stomach to all its friends. Their tails are made of tightly bound noodles which they use to whip and fight off attackers.
Thomi derives from  thỏ  mì, which translates to “bunny noodle”.

I asked to buy these and the cashier at the LGS looked at me with pleading eyes and concern and said, "Wait, really?" as if I'd just lifted a curse from him. They want them gone so bad they were even offering 3 if you win, nobody would take them still.

I've fallen down the stupidest fucking rabbit hole involving Metazoo and I've been possessed by the world's stupidest demon to accumulate a complete set of these useless valueless frankly shitty unplayable cards and just. Preserve them. For posterity.
Like I'd stopped picking them up because the Native set made me. Really uncomfortable and I was only buying them as a consolation prize when Target was out of Pokemon and Digimon and YuGiOh cards but now that the entire corporation is dead I just want to dissect this corpse and absolute stupid cash grab sham of a company
Like I'm convinced this game is the way it is and the cards are what they are because all these cryptids and folklore creatures and various references to 'spooky' things you'd find on any 3spoopy5me wikipedia crawl are the way they are because they already exist in the cultural miasma despite not being copyright in any way. You can cut a lot of red tape and save a lot of money when you don't have to come up with a design wholecloth yourself you can just go 'this is mothman it looks like mothman', and the cancelled SCP cardset only FURTHER CONVINCES me of this. Like. The creators were obviously panning around for open source easy ideas they didn't have to actually think about or pay for and printing money off of gullible card investors. For two and a half years!!!
And a fun thing about me is I cannot resist a scam. I cannot resist a rabbit hole. This guy rugpulled a whole community and now you have a bunch of bagholders awkwardly standing around like 'yeah I really believed in the card, I just liked the card you know, the game was fun.'
Meanwhile the optimal way to play the hello kitty crossover set (which. How did you swing THAT???) involves wearing a giraffe onesie, a crown, a red bow, moth antennae, feathers, a mask, a bunny hood, a birds nest directly on your head, dragon wings, a bell, a kuromi headpiece AND a propeller hat all at once, ideally with a volcano in plain sight. You also have to say aloud with your human mouth "It's okay I forgive you" in order to summon kuromi to the field.
bonkers fucking game I wish it got popular competitively I want to see what depths TCG players would stoop to in order to gain an edge.

Bought some Metazoo cards!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edit: Just found out about them being cryptobros and their NFT stuff. I Absolutely do not promove these shitty pratices, and i am honestly a bit regretful to have bought and shown this here. I chose not to delete the post, because maybe this serves as a warning as well.
So, 2024 really came and i am back to work and studies. During my vacation i ended across this TCG game called Metazoo, which is really nice, and is basically a TCG about Criptyds. I really liked the idea of collecting cards of mythological monsters, which are my main focus of research, and these ones are really well done!
I got my hands on a special Mothman blister, and i am delightful to have this creature in my possession now. It even came with a special Mothman coin!
I don't see myself playing the actual game, i am more of a collector, but i wish the Metazoo project keeps growing! They do a nice job :)
Hey #Metazoo, why not include some South American monsters in the next expansion!?

My advice to people wanting to create a tcg, even just an indie one or one you play for fun with your friends, is to not. The market is so horribly saturated that we're long overdue for the bubble massively bursting, leaving maybe at most 4 or 5 big projects on the market.
Further to this advice, if you absolutely must make a tcg, or any customisable card game, or any board game really. Your game does not need art while its in playtesting. I'm going to ignore a lot of the main reasons AI art is bad and try to communicate with the people who want to use it for their games for a moment.
AI art is not your art style. It is not a newly created style for you to be able to use on all your cards, and its not possible to copyright it in a lot of cases. The temptation to use it to make your project feel more professional will drive people away not just because they're anti AI, but because it looks cheap. It looks like you don't care about the visual identity of your game.
Some of the best games I've played or collected have unique art styles that do things only they can do. Metazoo was popular because it had a unique art style calling back to old school pokemon art, but with its own spin and artists able to adapt and change it.
I am anti AI, I think thats important for clarity, but I recognise the temptation of not having to pay for art. The thing is, art is especially important in a game where you expect people to want to collect the art you put out. AI art enthusiasts are a much smaller piece of the pie than you might think, and while AI art TCGs are often fully funded on kickstarter, i think its worth noting by how few backers.
People put a lot of stock in raw money made by a kickstarter, but if you average out all that money and it turns out a few whales are throwing $1000 each at it, and theres only like 300 of them, that's just not a feasible market for a game. Look at Altered, tens of thousands of backers backing an explicitly anti-crypto, anti-ai game. That's why its been so successful, not because of how much money it made but because of how big its initial community was.
Truly I actually don't care if you use AI art. I'm not gonna attack you for it. But I think its worth asking whether or not its truly worth just having another piece of slop in the bucket that people can't distinguish from the other 10 ai games on the market
And for anyone reading this who was completely unaware of this trend, yeah it is depressing. My special interest is trading card games and I love seeing new pieces of art, new borders, new and unique systems and rules. But its all being bogged down by people trying to cut corners in places you really shouldn't cut corners.
If you want to make it in a market where the average lifespan for a game is 2 years, and you can't afford to commission artists, you can't afford to be in this market at all

Okay so, CHALLENGE. 5 things that make you happy! And now you have to send it to 10 people who reblogged something from you >:DDDD get to know mutuals and followers!
Trading card games. Currently playing Pokemon, Yugioh, MTG, Digimon and looking to get into Bakugan, Wyvern, Metazoo and really any TCG. Though I really like to collect Pokemon's new special art rarity for how nice they usually look.
2. Figuring out other people's processes. I actually find artists with a style I admire and try to figure out their process so I can use their methods I like but fitted to my hands.
3. Helping others especially when they're less skilled than myself.
4. Manufacturing/crafts. Something to keep me busy and I love it when I can improve a process. If I'm not busy, you'll usually find me working on something anyway. It's just enjoyable being productive in a tangible way.
5. Programming. Sometimes figuring out a math equation is fun and in general it's a logic puzzle that results in making cool stuff. Also I just feel powerful as I turn code into something complex that runs.

that one time i got banned by rudy of alpha investments...
Tumblr media
FOLKS! i've been a fan of rudy of alpha investments for a while now. ever since i got back into magic (right before the kaladesh block) and jumped into the speculation side of things, i've enjoyed watching his youtube videos talking about the financial side of collecting cardboard.
a few months ago, a spot opened up on rudy's patreon, and i joined at the $15/month subscription level, even though my spending on magic: the gathering was at its lowest point.
a friend of mine hyped me up about the metazoo x sanrio collab, and rudy sent a message notifying patrons that he was going to offer a kit. on november 24th, the kit went on sale, and i replied to the post claiming a spot. rudy responded to the post with my order number and instructions to send payment through paypal.
a week or so later, rudy offered more kits but at a cheaper price. i hadn't received a tracking number on my order and assumed he wasn't going to start shipping until he sold out his inventory.
so, i waited. after another week, i checked the comments thread for the metazoo x sanrio drop i took part in and saw that rudy had responded to one buyer who wanted status on shipping.
"these left a long time ago," rudy responded.
on december 22nd, i dm'd rudy through patreon, providing my paypal account email and the transaction id for the purchase. he responded back the next day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i was disappointed that i wasn't offered an immediate refund and couldn't get another kit as it had sold out.
i didn't see anything on the horizon i wanted to put that money towards, and i didn't want my money tied up in someone's makeshift credit account.
after considering my options and rudy's future release slate, i asked for a refund.
four days later, with no response, i asked again.
three days after that, and a full week of no responses, i went on paypal to see what my worst-case scenario remedies were. i had no intention of doing a chargeback -- i've always tried to resolve disputes with communication and only use chargebacks when it's the only solution. and besides, there was no option for a chargeback -- paypal said i could open a dispute in a few months if no amicable resolution could be found in the meantime.
i clicked a link to message rudy through paypal, but it took me to a page that said the seller was not open to messages.
there was an option to "report a problem," and i clicked it to see where it went.
Tumblr media
i was able to communicate with rudy there.
before i could submit a message, i was asked to link to rudy's refund/cancellation policy -- which i couldn't find. i was asked to describe the issue i was having, and then i had an opportunity to upload screenshots and "evidence" regarding the issue. i posted a screenshot of rudy admitting he had made a mistake.
before i submitted the message, i was given a notification that the seller would receive the screenshots and the problem i described. it was clear that i was starting a conversation with rudy, not initiating a chargeback. there was also a note from paypal to use this step as a way of resolving the issue amicably directly with the seller.
Tumblr media
well, it took only 10 minutes for rudy to reply to this message.
not only did rudy refund me the money, he also banned me from his patreon.
and then he went too far and said he shared my personal information with other stores.
Tumblr media
i've only ever resorted to chargebacks or disputes after a lengthy amount of non-communication and inaction. as a person who has bought, sold, and traded cards and comics, i know that maintaining a business -- especially online -- is difficult.
in fact, i have another online seller who currently owes me two cases of another tcg. while this seller had absolutely no timetable for when they'd have the product in stock, their constant and clear communication with me has built trust, and i told them i was willing to wait so long as they don't ghost me.
i would have gladly worked this out with rudy and tried doing so. it's a little ironic that rudy suggested to me that i "allow people to work with me" when his reaction to my reaching out was to completely burn the bridge by closing my account, labeling me a chargeback offender, and then sending my personal information to others.
all this in response to a simple question -- can i get a refund?
anyways, since i no longer can message rudy, i hope that he sees this one day.
first, i apologize. i didn't initiate a chargeback/dispute; i messaged you to get some communication regarding a possible refund. my hope was to work it out in a civil matter. second, i would suggest you practice what you preach.
for example, a few days ago, you posted a video which prompted a pretty severe response from metazoo games and legend story studios after you criticized how they were doing business. you messaged the patreons, saying you had taken down the video and hoped the companies wouldn't completely turn their backs on you.
perhaps consider how this former patreon supporter hoped you would respond to a simple request as you tell your youtube viewers not to give interest-free loans to businesses.
