he’s scrambling from the mazes & pitfalls of his mind. entrenched in some prison no matter where he goes; addicted to his own misery, people say. it takes him a fair while to focus on the present, but michael’s grab at attention is more than adequate. since he’s rusty in sign, interpretation alone uses much of his brainpower. that grants momentary respite from the silhouette embossed behind his eyelids; the insistent timbre pounding on his eardrums. within that time, syrupy slow, a pristine spoon is in his hands. plastic cool searing a line along the heat of his palms.

” thank you, ” he says vacantly. he doesn’t forget manners, even though they’ve been sequestered in such a ghastly place, he’s been raised better.

he shifts in his seat minutely, uncomfortable. sleep deprived, aching in several places, tasting blood all down his trachea — his body’s an entire bruise. the ailments render his faculties slow, & addled mind takes more than a pause to translate. like a delayed feed, he watches michael’s rough finger slice down through the air like the whistle of a knife. kill, kill, kill. his tired brain focuses, & with a snap, the world rushes back to him in photorealism, like a rush of salt spray tide. eyes drift from those fingers, up to that impassive stare. he’s unable to find something there. most probing of this nature arrives with a subtle purpose but the query is almost perfectly placid. asking the mundane. it’s takes a beat too long for him to answer.

he thought he was getting better. the previous facility … the medication had stablized him somewhat. though he still suffered the hallucinations, he was a better state in mind to discern them from reality. now, it meshes into a jumbled heap. his head burns & aches, tight from overwork. he shrugs, “ i think… yes. maybe. i’m not sure. i dont want… i don’t want to kill anyone. ” unsure. he’s fantasized. he thinks about killing with the tubes sometimes, to use their own machinery to rob their right to hurt him, hurt anyone ever again. it isn't the same feeling as to when he had killed those girls. this feels more reactionary. borne out of some amalgam of wild fantasy & desperation. “ i thought about it. i don’t think i would want to. i don’t … i want this to stop. i’ll stop them if i get the chance. ” he doesn’t know what he thinks actually. his mind is getting worse, like sand slipping past his fingers.

he rests his gaze like a touch, heavy meaning, all pressure & insistent against the line of michael’s features. “ you? do you want to kill them? ”

it is unfortunate to the staff of mount massive that michael's mind is so strong. they thought it'd be the complete opposite. when they were transferring him over from smith's grove, they heard only terrible things. someone completely gone, someone who cannot be saved. they thought he'd be weak and easy to bend and break. a young man who has spent the majority of his life institutionalized. how strong could he be? he has no life experience, no relationships, nothing. he should be nothing but skin and bones, but he is strong, much stronger than most of the patients here. he's younger and in better shape both physically and mentally. it is not to say the "treatments" being conducted here at mount massive haven't gotten to him-- it is a huge difference from smith's grove. yes, in smith's grove he endured electroshock therapy and even a lobotomy, but that is nothing compared to here. here, only sadists seem to be employed. they don't want to help the patients, not at all.

michael sits down to the only person in this place he cares the slightest about. perhaps it is more than slight, but he doesn't know that. doesn't understand it. there are a lot of things he doesn't understand, but how can he be blamed? he has spent his entire life institutionalized. he thinks now in this place, he is learning more than he ever did in smith's grove. he has learned he is not the worst thing out there, even though dr. loomis was convinced he was the face of evil, the devil himself. michael always found it funny-- but he never gave loomis the satisfaction of laughing in his face. never even cracked a smirk. he never communicated with anyone-- not until now, until this place. until eddie. the staff has seen him communicating, but they don't care about him the way smith's grove did. to them, he's just another body to break. another mind to shatter.

"you are right," he signs, making sure the other is actually looking at him before he does so. "they want us broken and moldable. have you thought of killing them?" michael thought about killing the staff of smith's grove many times. he could have done it, really. they weren't heavily armed there, unlike here. but michael and eddie are strong and large, and he is sure any of the other patients would jump at the opportunity to sink their teeth into the guards and the rest of the staff. he tilts his head, offering over his spoon now that eddie has broken the plastic thing.

Nathan had been as subtle as an earthquake when it came to what he was spending all of his free time doing. His relationship with Mike was transparent and open knowledge for those in his close circle, both professionally and not. Though, to be fair, it would be almost impossible for him to come up with any excuse for all the time he was spending not working or training that didn't involve a love interest. He was addicted to Mike- no, to his Princess. A unique and loving dynamic had blossomed between them, they brought out sides of one another that they'd not been aware they possessed. His Princess had him head-over-heels and Nathan couldn't go more than an hour without some form of contact from the other, it was like his fuel and his fire. But this morning the other hadn't responded to his 'good morning' texts like he always did and more disturbingly so, hadn't picked up for his morning call - something that worried Nathan because he knew how much the other liked hearing him when he woke up and also knew that Nathan liked having his voice be the first thing he heard every day.

Something didn't sit right with him about the other's distance as it continued throughout the day - his Princess hadn't mentioned any big plans except packing for his upcoming holiday trip and that wasn't enough to explain why he hadn't heard from him. Sure, from the outside, his next move might be seen as possessive and irrational- but he didn't care; more so than just not following their usual routine, the protective side of him said that something was wrong and the Princess needed his knight. It had taken his team all of a half hour to track down Mike's address and Nathan immediately cancelled the rest of his plans for the day and sped there. He didn't care if Colby was there or not; at this point, he just needed to know the man he was falling in love with was okay. He just needed to hear that soft, warm voice of his and see that million dollar smile and he'd be able to rest. But, until then, he was a fearsome force to be reckoned with and neither hell, nor any of the beasts that resided in it, could stop him from making sure his Princess was safe.

He knocked a little harder on the door than he probably needed to- again, moreso out of fear that something had happened. He heard the door unlock and he took a deep breath, bracing himself for the worst to appear - but then, there he was: the most beautiful man on earth. Every Bottocelli curl of his hair perfect and his eyes sparkling and the fearsome professional fighter already felt himself soften. But then- as his eyes took in the entire scene in front of him, part of him certainly hardened. He didn't ask what the other was doing, if he was busy, what his plans were- all of that was cast aside as Nathan decided for both of them what was about to happen next. "You look like a Princess- like my Princess," he mumbled between kisses as he found the other's bed and mindlessly swiped his bag out of the way, sending it crashing to the ground and laid the other down on his bed, "Told you pink was your colour," he whispered as he captured one of the other's nipples in his mouth. He was referring to what he'd said back in Vegas, when the other had worn a hoodie of his, a dusty pink one that he'd mindlessly packed and the colour brought out levels of breathtaking beauty and warmth in Mike; like it brought out the real him.

Nathan let his mouth move to the beautiful man's other nipple for a few moments then moving his lips back up to Mike's, pressing his front against the other's, parting his legs once more as he rutted his diamond-hard cock against the other's front, "When you look like this it makes me wanna do nothing but fill you up and cover you in my seed- make sure every part of you knows that you belong to me," he said dirtily, reaching down and grabbing a fistful of his lover's ass. Mike had to bite his tongue to keep from saying that Colby did it to himself. Everyone else had been practically ghosted.

Mike was packing when he uncovered a box he had hidden. Opening it, he blushed as memories flooded back. He had ordered it in Vegas when he and Nathan had been drunk. Nathan had run off somewhere while Mike was wandering around the store. He had seen it, and a lady let him try it on. It didn’t fit properly, but she offered to have it tailored. Long story short, Mike ended up buying it and had it sent to his house once it was adjusted. He forgot about it until it arrived in the mail, along with memories of what had happened. He had hidden it to be forgotten, but there it was.

He took it out and inspected it. The whole thing was really pretty, and Mike was embarrassed to admit that he liked it. He couldn't resist trying it on. As promised, it fit perfectly. Mike took a good look at himself in the mirror when something caught his eye—his phone. There were a bunch of missed calls, texts, voicemails, and other notifications. Nathan was clearly worried about him. The last text said that Nathan had found out where Mike lived and was coming to check on him. Realizing this message was from a while ago, Mike started dialing back just as there was a knock on his door. Forgetting what he was wearing, Mike went to answer it and saw Nathan standing there.
