Stela of the Sculptor Qen worshipping Amenhotep I and Ahmose-Nefertari - Met Museum Collection
Inventory Number: 59.93 New Kingdom, Ramesside, Dynasty 19, ca. 1279–1213 B.C. Location Information: From Egypt, Upper Egypt, Thebes, Deir el-Medina, Tomb of Qen (TT 4), König 1862
Description:
One of the select "servants in the Place of Truth," Qen was a member of the community of arts and craftsmen responsible for building and decorating the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings. This stela was found in 1862 in Qen's tomb at the workmen's village of Deir el-Medina. Qen's titles, as recorded on the stela, were "sculptor of Amun in the Place of Truth" and "sculptor of Amun in Karnak" suggesting that he specialized in carving relief.
In the lower register of the stela, Qen, his wife Nefertari, and their two sons, Merymery and Huy, are shown paying homage to the two seated figures above. These represent Amenhotep I, second king of Dynasty 18, and his mother Ahmose-Nefertari. By Dynasty 19, these two deified members of the royal family had become patrons of the Theban necropolis and especially of the workmen and their families.

Detail of a limestone relief from the tomb of Merymery in Saqqara. He was the Custodian of the Treasury of Memphis probably some time during the reign of King Amenhotep III (circa 1390-1352 BCE - 18th Dynasty). The relief depicts a grander scene of a funeral procession. This detail shows a group of mourning females. The relief (AP 6-a) is now in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (National Museum of Antiquities), Leiden, the Netherlands. Photo (edited for size): Creative Commons. "A career in mourning was followed by many ancient Egyptian women. Those who could afford it employed professional mourners to grieve openly about the house while the dead person was being mummified, a process which took seventy days, and to follow the funeral cortège to the tomb. The mourning took the form of casting dust on the head, rending clothes and scratching cheeks while wailing. Judging from tomb-paintings, the profession of mourner could start at an early age: in the tomb of Ramose at Thebes, for example, a group of mourning women has in its midst a very young girl. All are standing with upraised arms and obviously shrieking as loudly as they can - just as women in Egypt mourn today." ― Watterson, Barbara, Women in Ancient Egypt, Amberley Publishing Plc, UK, 2011. #iregipto #egyptpassion #discoveregypt #thisisegypt #egypt #MBPlanet #egypt https://www.instagram.com/p/CMG5dsGHU1_/?igshid=jkpou1uc4pf3

Baptism is an African concept that can be found depicted on the walls of the Ancient Nile, like this example of the Official Merymery from 1400 bce. However, notice that Merymery as the father Ausar is the one BEING baptized by his son as Heru the Prince while being supported by Anup (who measures the scales of Ma'at). This is because baptism in Kemet wasn't done as a child initiation but when your child deems that you have been a successful father. It is after you have proven success as a father that you are worthy of baptism into being an Ausar.

Reposted from @negusnetwork - The concept of baptism originates in Kushite-Kemetic Spiritual Science. However, it was not the submersion into a pool as Christians mispractice, but the pouring of *water* over the initiate to symbolize cleansing to begin his transformation into the pursuit of becoming Ausar (the Supreme Being dwelling in Man). In this 3,500 year old raised relief of Merymery, we see the pouring of water over the initiate who is depicted in "mummified" form (a symbol of the immortal nature of becoming Ausar). He is supported by Anup (Eshu in Yoruba), the canine headed divinity that symbolizes the keen judgement needed to become Ausar. Jesus was called 'the' Christ (remember thats a title not a name); christ comes from the Kemetic "KRST [Karast]", the Anointed One and the etymological root word “KARAST“ (KRST) comes from the process of embalming. In the pyramid text, being anointed with oil, essentially makes one a “messiah” or “Christ/KRST”. In the beginning of the baptismal ritual of today's' religion, they anoint with oil. In Matthew 26:12, Jesus says (cough cough), “In that she poured this ointment / perfume upon my body, she did it to prepare me for my burial". That was a reference to the woman making Jesus, THEE CHRIST... as the anointed mummy. This is a detail of an incredible wall fragment from the Tomb of Merymery. Merymery wears a shoulder length braided wig with an unguent cone, broad collar, long linen garment which falls to his knees, and holds a handkerchief is his left hand. His wife, in a tripartite wig with an unguent cone with a small bouquet of lotus and mandrakes on her brow, broad collar around her neck and in a long gown, sits with him in a loving embrace. Under their finely carved chairs is their pet cat! 😺 Like us, the ancient Egyptians had beloved pets such as cats, dogs, monkeys, baboons, and gazelle. They like us named them, hunted with them, and are often shown as companions in their tomb-paintings since tomb art was a nexus to perpetuate one’s livelihood and worldly processions into the hereafter. Limestone with traces of paint, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III. Photo by me @ir-egipto-travel
