Merfolk

Delilah’s consciousness expands from her head, through her torso, and into her arms. Finally, it fills her lower body. She can feel that her legs have become a single limb that presses against the hard pavement below. Her eyes are closed yet she can sense the trees, the road and the massive man breathing beside her as if sound has become sight. She snaps open her eyes and is instantly blinded by the bright light around her. Her head hurts. She slowly sits up. Her eyes focus on her body and her heart jumps. Thick, dark-grey skin has replaced her pale complexion. Her legs fused into a single long, muscular fin that tore her pants apart. She gasps. Her voice is deeper and as she looks down at her chest, she sees only flexing pectoral muscles.

Adaptable and versatile, merfolk are amphibious humanoids with fins instead of legs that can breathe both air and water.

Merfolk possess long, elegant forms. Their lower half is a long, powerful tail, complemented by two flexible fins on their pelvis. This grants them exceptional agility in aquatic environments, allowing them to twist and turn with remarkable finesse. However, this agility comes with a compromise on speed. The presence of arms and a movable head introduces drag, rendering merfolk less hydrodynamic compared to many other marine creatures, and thereby slower.

The skin of a merfolk is thick and resilient. It can resist both prolonged immersion in water or exposure to air. The majority of their body is also devoid of hair, except for their heads.

Located beneath a merfolk's ribcage are six respiratory slits, three on each side. These slits play a crucial role in optimizing water flow through their lungs while diving. Additionally, they serve a vital function in air breathing; merfolk can leap from the water, expel it through these slits to empty their lungs, and then seal them to prevent liquid from reentering their respiratory system as they breathe air.

While primarily aquatic, merfolk have the capability to navigate terrestrial environments. They achieve this by curving their tail and torso into an S-shape, using their fin in a manner akin to a foot for support. Through a combination of wriggling and hopping motions, they can move with surprising speed on land. However, this method of locomotion is physically demanding and can lead to skin abrasion if performed on rough

I thought this scene could take place in a fight between King Triton and a possible villain. He could have lost his trident somehow so Ariel took it.

The concept behind Onehornla's one of a kind mermaidcore folio: 'SEA TAILS' In the shimmering expanse of the ocean, where sunlight danced on the waves and the depths held secrets untold, lived a radiant mermaid named Lirelle. With long, flowing tresses that mirrored the colors of the coral and eyes that held the wisdom of ancient waters, she was a creature of enchantment and grace.

One fateful day, as Lirelle glided through the underwater gardens, her melodious song drawing dolphins and fish to her side, a shadow fell over her. Startled, she looked up to find herself ensnared in a net woven by human hands. Panic gripped her heart, and her heartrending song filled the ocean, echoing like a plea for salvation.

Above the surface, aboard a weathered ship, stood Captain Aric. A sea-faring man with weathered features, he had heard tales of mermaids and their enchanting songs. Yet, nothing could have prepared him for the heart-stopping beauty of the mermaid before him.

As Lirelle's voice wove a spell around him, Aric's initial intentions faltered. He looked into her eyes and saw not a captive creature, but a soul brimming with wonder and longing. A storm of conflicting emotions raged within him – duty to his crew, his desire for adventure, and an unexpected tenderness that surged from the depths of his heart.

Aric couldn't deny the pull he felt towards Lirelle, a pull that defied reason and circumstance. He cut the net, freeing her from her temporary prison. Their eyes met, and in that fleeting moment, a connection formed that transcended their worlds.

With hesitant trust, Lirelle allowed herself to be guided by Aric to the ship's deck. The sea breeze tangled her hair, mingling with the scent of salt and adventure. Language barriers were meaningless; their souls communicated through a language only the heart comprehends.

As days turned into nights, Lirelle learned of Aric's world – of distant lands, of stars that guided sailors, and of dreams that traversed horizons. In turn, she shared tales of underwater kingdoms, of dancing with schools of fish, and of the songs that echoed through ocean currents.

But with each passing day, a truth weighed heavily on their hearts. Lirelle belonged to the sea, and Aric to the land. Their love was a fragile bloom that defied the boundaries of their worlds.

As the ship sailed through uncharted waters, Lirelle and Aric found themselves drawn to a secluded cove. There, beneath a canopy of stars, they shared a bittersweet farewell. Their love, though forbidden and fleeting, had changed them forever.

With a tender kiss and a promise etched in their souls, Lirelle slipped beneath the waves, returning to her ocean realm. Aric watched her vanish into the depths, carrying with her a piece of his heart.

And so, the sea and the land held the memory of an improbable love – a mermaid and a sea man who defied destiny to experience a love that ignited in the heart of the enchanting depths.

It's been a while since I've uploaded a a shadowed mermaid art, so here's a new one I did of the beautiful Sea and World. I used my soulmated sona, for Welt Neugia the merboy, as my model for this painting. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, and I can't wait to share it with you all! 🌊 🌊 In this painting, I used light and shadows to create a beautiful and romantic image of the Sea. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do besides the fine light at the beautiful sea, from his soulmated sona, Welt Neugia the merboy decided to sit on under the water seeing a shining sprite for the mermaid's shine sprite he puts his heart on, keeping his mermaid soul healed from the shine sprite but in the fully healed, it doesn't even matter how shiny his necklace got into... 🌊 🌊 Just then, I came up with, so here I have him staring at the shine sprite for the mermaids that is about the sirens (& no, this is not for Mermay), but I'm glad that I made this the beauty of his soul!  🌊 🌊 This Welt Neugia was fuuun, I made his tail more detailed and well, as I told u in from one of his mermaid drawing, when he is out of water he's more of a fish.
