What a difference 56 years makes juxtaposition of Mercedes-Benz 200 D Lang, 1967 & Mercedes-Benz E 300 L, 2023. Mercedes have made long wheelbase versions of their mid-range saloons through multiple generations. For the W110 series "fintail" this created space for a 3rd seat row which remained the case for subsequent generations. However for the new V214 series long wheelbase E-class for the Chinese market the extra space is just for rear seat passengers, not more passengers

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Is Coming To India On October 9
The most recent version of the E-class sedan, which is presently available in regions like China, will be the only one available with its long-wheelbase specification.
Highlights
On October 9, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the most recent version of the E-class.
To only be available with a long wheelbase.
Will compete in India with the brand-new BMW 5 Series LWB.
On October 9, 2024, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the most recent version of the E-class long-wheelbase sedan in India. The E-Class made its worldwide premiere more than a year after it was introduced in India. The new E-class sedan will only be available in the long-wheelbase body type, much like its predecessor. The all-new BMW 5 Series LWB, which is being offered in a long-wheelbase version for the first time in India, will present new competition for the E-Class, which has been Mercedes-Benz's best-selling model here, upon its debut.
The New E-Class will have a completely new style, with redesigned headlights that have modern-looking DRLs. The front end now has a bigger grille than before, giving it a more commanding look. The new E-class shares a similar profile to the previous model, but with some softening of the preceding model's sharp features. It receives redesigned tail lamps on the back that are more in keeping with the company's most recent models.
The new E-Class LWB is 18 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the previous model, with dimensions of 5,092 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,493 mm in height. Of the 18 mm length gain, 15 mm have been added to the wheelbase, bringing it to 3,094 mm.
The top variant of the E-Class LWB will come with an MBUX Superscreen inside. Up to three integrated screens can be found behind a single curved glass panel on the dashboard, which is called the Superscreen. This consists of a co-driver-specific display, a central infotainment touchscreen, and a digital instrument cluster. Additional amenities include motorized rear sunblinds, a panoramic sunroof, four-zone temperature control, power-adjustable rear outer seats, a 730W Burmester 4D sound system, and 64-color ambient lighting.
Mercedes Benz has announced that the new E will have two four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines as standard equipment. A 2.0-liter gasoline unit produces around 195 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter diesel unit produces roughly 200 horsepower. The basic transmission will be a 9-speed automatic.

THE NEW MERCEDES-BENZ CLASS S 2021: 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
In the spring of 2021, Mercedes-Benz will present a new generation of its large S-Class. This monument of technology has always been a rolling laboratory. We could take pages to simply explain everything you can achieve with this vehicle. We have chosen ten elements that are more important than the others.
1 – Second generation of MBUX
The small A-Class was the first vehicle to introduce this sophisticated communication system between man (or woman) and machine. The S-Class presents a second evolution of the latter.
More advanced, its computing power increases by 50% compared to the previous model. Memory bandwidth is 41,790 Mb/s. It includes 27 different languages (including French) and extends its influence over a wider sphere of use.
Across five screens, some of which offer an LED display, and at the touch of a button, the new 3D driver’s screen allows for the first time a spatial perception of the scene with a true 3D effect, all thanks to the eye-tracking approach.
An equally impressive feature is the very large head-up display with augmented reality content. During navigation, for example, animated stop arrows are projected virtually and precisely onto the traffic lane.
Thanks to the cameras in the upper control panel and the learning algorithms, the MBUX Interior Assist recognizes and anticipates the wishes and intentions of the occupants. To do this, it interprets the direction of the head, hand movements and body language and reacts with corresponding vehicle functions. For example, if the driver looks over his shoulder towards the rear window, the Interior Assist automatically opens the curtain in front of the window.
Active Ambient Lighting, consisting of approximately 250 LEDs, is now integrated into the driver assistance systems and is capable of visually enhancing their warnings.
2 – Smallest turning radius
Thanks to the optional rear-axle steering, the S-Class is as manoeuvrable as a compact car in the city. The steering angle of the rear axle can be up to ten degrees. Even for the S-Class with long wheelbase and all-wheel drive, the radius is reduced from 1.9 meters to less than 10.9 meters. This reduces the imposing size of the vehicle behind the wheel.
3 – An even more high-end stereo system
Thirty speakers are included in Burmester’s high-end 4D surround sound system, ensuring a unique music experience.
4 – Guaranteed comfort
The comfort of the front passenger seat is assisted by 19 motors (8 for adjustments, 4 for massage and 5 for ventilation, one for lumbar support and one for moving the monitor in reverse). A total of 10 different massage programs are available in the new S-Class.
5 – Aerodynamic
With an aerodynamic profile that displays a coefficient of drag (cx) of 0.22, the S-Class is one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world. This means that its cx is lower than before, despite a larger, more impressive frontal area.
6 – Air conditioning technology
The 4-zone air conditioning system consists of 17 motors that control temperature and air distribution in the front and 20 motors in the rear. These electric motors operate the air flaps. To go hand in hand with this controlled environment, there is an active LED ambient lighting system with fiber optics every 1.6 centimeters. There are about 250 in total.
7 – Improved suspension and more recycled components
The control units of the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL analyze the driving situation and adjust the suspension a thousand times per second.
In addition, more than 98 kg of components made from resource-saving materials are used in the S-Class. The number of components with recycled content is 120, more than double that of the previous model. A further 40 kg are made from renewable raw materials.
8 – Even more space … and light
Compared to the previous model, elbow room for the driver has increased by 38 millimeters and up to 23 millimeters for the rear passengers. Rear roof clearance has increased by 16 millimeters. The resolution of DIGITAL LIGHT per vehicle is more than 2.6 million pixels.
9 – Even more protection
When a side impact is imminent, the vehicle body can be lifted eight centimeters by the optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension in just a few tenths of a second. This reduces the loads acting on the occupants by directing the impact forces to particularly strong structures in the lower area of the vehicle.
10 – An enlarged screen
The new center LED display measures 239.06 mm by 218.8 mm and has an active screen diagonal of 12.8 inches. The screen area is 64% larger than the previous model. The conductor screen measures 291.6 mm by 109.4 mm and has a diagonal of 12.3 inches.
The new generation S-Class arrives in Canada in the spring of 2021 and will be offered in a 500 short wheelbase version as an entry-level model, as well as a 580 long wheelbase version. Later in the year, a plug-in hybrid version will follow with an announced range of 100 kilometers.
The 500 version is equipped with a 429-hp 6-cylinder turbocharged inline-6 engine, while the 580 version comes with a 4-turbocharged, 496-hp V8 engine. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard.

The Ultimate in Coach Built, Powerhouse, European Luxury Touring Saloons: 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 (W116)
Mercedes-Benz S-Class range represents the pinnacle in automotive excellence, the “S” designation being German for “Sonderklasse” or “Special Class” and the W116 Series 450SEL 6.9 undoubtedly represents the summit atop that pinnacle of German Motoring Excellence.
Based on the W116 450SEL Chassis (SEL = Long Wheelbase S-Class) with its lavishly appointed interior, hand finished in Zebrano Wood & Chrome Trim. The “6.9″ part is where the Powerhouse comes into play. Driving this already impressive chassis (as seen on the standard 450SEL W116) is what became a byword for Mercedes premium quality, cutting edge automotive technology; The 6.834L, 3 Speed Auto, M100 V8, SOHC engine. It was the largest no-US engine built since WWII but the technology didn’t stop at pure grunt, as well as the ride being softened by Mercedes legendary Hydropneumatic “Self-leveling” Suspension, it was also among the first vehicles ever produced with optional electronically controlled anti-lock brakes, first introduced by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch in 1978 and to top it all off, it also featured Mercedes Electro-mechanical K-Jetronic, Naturally Aspirated Direct Fuel Injection (the “E” in “SEL”).
Car and Driver proclaimed to be “the greatest Mercedes-Benz ever built,”

[ad_1] The auto industry’s race towards electrification has just heated up in a major way, with Germany’s BMW revealing that the seventh generation of their flagship full-size luxury sedan, the 7 Series, will see a fully-electric variant for the first time – the i7. The new 7 Series is a seriously lavish new vehicle. The panoramic 31-inch BMW Theatre Screen in the rear is a particular highlight – it’s like a luxury cinema on wheels – as is the giant curved dash and the sumptuous, futuristic interior made with a high proportion of recycled materials. It’s also huge. BMW is only offering a long-wheelbase version, and it’s almost 5.4m long: 10cm linger than the previous long-wheelbase 7 Series. It’s a total luxury barge in perfect ‘screw you’ BMW fashion. The i7 variant is particularly impressive, with its 625kms of range, 400kW power figure and impeccable all-wheel drive. The 7 Series has always been about offering a buttery-smooth driving experience, and the i7 delivers that like no 7 Series that’s come before. In short, it’s a great car. And it should make Mercedes-Benz very nervous. No need to indicate when you’re this big… Not that BMW drivers indicate anyway. Image: BMW AustraliaThe reason Mercedes – typically the king of luxury cars, with the S-Class being the gold standard for big luxury sedans – should be worried about the i7 is because they currently have no answer to it. Indeed, none of the other German car brands has electrified their top-of-the-line luxury sedan in the same way as BMW has. Yes, Mercedes has the EQS, but as motor1.com puts it, “the EQS doesn’t quite match the extraordinary levels of ride comfort that its sibling, the S-Class, delivers”. They also say that it’s “frumpy”, “hunchbacked” and “looks like a runny egg”. Say what you really feel… Conversely, the new i7/7 Series looks muscular; imposing; tank-like. BMW calls the design “monolithic” and we’d tend to agree – it’s the perfect look for a luxury land yacht. The spilt headlights look very cool, as does the large grille (although we’re not sure why car brands still insist on giving electric cars grilles… But that’s another discussion.) RELATED: What The Apple Car Design Will Look Like, According To A Patent Spy But this isn’t just about looks, it’s about what the i7 represents and offers. The EQS straight-up just isn’t an S-Class. Audi’s e-tron GT sedan is an awesome car, but it’s not an A8, nor is the e-tron SUV. The Porsche Taycan is even more awesome than the e-tron GT but it’s not a Panamera. You get the picture. But the i7 is very much a 7 Series. This all might seem like a trivial difference but the fact you can get BMW’s biggest, most luxurious sedan in fully electric guise is actually quite significant. The electric underpinnings of the new BMW i7. Image: BMW AustraliaIt’s a vote of confidence in electrification from BMW and signals that going electric doesn’t mean you have to compromise on performance or comfort. EVs don’t need to be split off; ‘quarantined’ in their own model families. It’s normalising going electric. You’re just choosing a different donk, the same way you’d opt for diesel over petrol or a V8 over an inline-6. It’s also easier for customers to wrap their head around when shopping for a new BMW – and might help take some of the stigma out of going electric. Again, all good things. We’re just keen to drive one. Or be driven in one, under the circumstances. Read Next Did you enjoy this story? If so, subscribe to our daily newsletter to receive our top tending stories. Mercedes-Benz India posts 26% rise in sales at 4,022 units in FY 22Q1
Mercedes-Benz India on Friday reported a 26 per cent jump in sales at 4,022 units in the first quarter of 2022, riding on robust demand for both its SUVs and sedans despite the challenges of semiconductor shortage, global supply chain disruptions, and rising input and logistics costs.
The company had sold 3,193 units in the January-March period of 2021, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement.
A highest ever order bank of over 4,000 units is leading to a positive outlook in the coming months, it added.
The E-Class long wheelbase sedan remained the highest selling model in the first quarter, while GLC was the highest selling SUV, followed by the GLA and GLE SUVs.
The AMG and super luxury car portfolio grew by 35 per cent in the first quarter, it added.
Commenting on the sales performance, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Martin Schwenk said the Q1 sales lay a strong foundation for a long-term recovery.
"This achievement becomes important in the context of continued intense headwinds like semiconductor shortage, global supply chain disruptions and rising input costs," he added.
Schwenk further said, "With the highest order bank in our history, we are confident of continuing this growth momentum in the coming months."

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is an electric alternative to the E-Class
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is an electric alternative to the E-Class
Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQE, a sedan developed as an electric alternative to the E-Class and as a smaller alternative to the EQS. Available only as an EV, the EQE will make its public debut at the 2021 Munich Auto Show. An unmistakable family resemblance links the EQE to the EQS; it looks nothing like the E-Class. Characterized by a one-bow cab-forward design and an unusually long wheelbase,…

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate range is represented in India by the rugged All-Terrain. It’s a model that’s designed to offer all the practicality of an estate with all-weather and all-condition ability. Standard-fit all-wheel drive and a height-adjustable air suspension bring with them added ability. The All-Terrain might be based on the standard-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-class but at nearly 5m long, it is still a very large car. Scuff plates front and rear, plastic cladding and large wheels make it look interesting too. For all its rugged appeal, you don’t sit high enough and the feeling from behind the steering is of being in a standard E-class sedan. Rear seat space is ample and comfort is good, if best for two occupants. The All-Terrain works well as an estate with lots of luggage room.

What a difference 50 years makes juxtaposition of Mercedes-Benz passenger car range 1970 & Mercedes-Benz passenger car range 2020 (including Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach models). In 1970 the Mercedes range was based around 3 saloons (with associated long wheelbase and coupé derivatives) and 1 sports car. There are now 4 core ranges (A&B, C, E & S), 3 sports cars, 1 sports saloon, 5 SUVs ( 4 of which are derived from the core range), 1 MPV and 1 EV. Daimler have announced plans to rationalise their range. In addition to discontinuing the S-class coupé and cabriolet models production of the current BR 231 SL class has ceased though it will be replaced by a new SL in 2022
