Zoe is a fallen witch who sets out from a wizard's island in search of freedom. She arrives in a village where she marries the man of her dreams, but their happiness is short-lived. Her beloved husband dies in an accident. Zoe tries to follow in his, but then meets Eliza, an opal beetle, who has also lost her husband and is also grieving. Zoe's friend Shishka also turns out to be a widow, and the three, who are in the same situation, start training as witches in order to "bring their husbands back to life". A restart from the bottom~♪ A cheerful and mysterious fantasy.

I've been really enjoying Menota's "Correspondence from the End of the Universe", a soft science fiction series about Marko, a young Russian who gets abducted by aliens just before he plans on proposing to his long term partner. It turns out there's an intergalactic organization that creates planets, with the staff randomly selected from across the universe to serve a ten year term. Marko wants to return to Earth but also can't help but become close to his new coworkers and the wider universe he's forced to learn about.

Doctor Who/Star Trek/early 20th century anthologyish in nature, there's an overarching plot about Marko's quest to go home and the complications that ensue, tying together episodic narratives about different planets and aliens and the complicated nature of planet creation. Sweet and whimsical and horrific by turns - a story about Muu, a young alien Marko finds himself acting as a parental figure to, starting space kindergarten, is next to a story about an escapee survivor from a planet of cannibals that the intergalactic government didn't quite manage to genocide. There's a quality to Menota's art that makes stark body horror and intricate floral creations exist alongside each other without anything feeling out of place.

A quiet gem of a series that seems to have slipped under the radar.

A romantic sci-fi workplace drama about a spaceman pining for Earth and the partner he left behind. Russian recent college graduate Marko is looking forward to traveling the world with his lover. However, he is abducted by a mysterious being to the end of the universe, ruining his plans. That mysterious being assigns Marko a ten-year mission. All Marko can do is give his all to the mission and befriend his alien coworkers. This is the peculiar story depicting life in a place far removed from Earth.

'Correspondence from the End of the Universe' is okay this time around, but feels a little unfocused to me. I enjoy the whimsical planets to a point, but the two big threads in this volume are the main character's missing heart (literal) and also how much he wants to get back home to Earth and his abandoned fiancee - which seems like it should go well together, but the two storylines don't seem to be connected to each other, which feels like a missed opportunity. It makes me less interested in continuing; we'll see how I feel once the next volume rolls around.

reworked the sword to like. actually look like a sword that could plausibly exist.

it's a zweihander now. or well always was but I didn't really understand what i was doing. god i love the high contrast metallic colours. i'm so sorry zoe your satin metallics are forever second place now.

my design process usually involves either scribbling in a sketchbook or opening up paint.net and assembling a number of references in the highly incoherent manner above.

here ive assembled many of her original design sketches and references. you can see i was heavily influenced by gundam before going off in a completely different direction. she doesn't even have a railcannon anymore. kizo's drawing remains the closest since she still has the thighs, coat, and sort of hip block thing.

Here's a more recent sketch. I hadn't drawn much for many years after making those original sketches but! i did learn something that resembles perspective and anatomy since ive started getting back into it. the sword is still outdated as I tried to wrangle what it actually looked like and what I wanted it to.

I previously titled her "arbiter of xia" due to the railcannon-era design that she had already outgrown but she's much more menota (rsg pridak)-influenced now.

I had initially used the Vehicle Lewa mask so that i could make it the basis for a custom mask but I ended up really liking it so it's kind of hard to switch now. I hate when that happens. ugh. getting attached to a placeholder sucks doesn't it?

I don't really have much else to say other than the coat's gonna be a bastard to sew when i build her. in terms of like, oc lore or headcannon or whatever I think it's best to leave that out.

Anyone who likes sci-fi and/or slice of life should give this one a try. It's a unique premise with interesting characters and worlds.
