Continue from here: @lyon-beast-king
Lyon wanted him serious, so he was being serious and actually pulling his rank for once in his life, and yes still pissed despite the fact that he had his mask on to show no emotions even if he was hurting still. Though as he had started to explain each of the options, he took note of the elder’s reactions to them, and of course he gets a frown at the first one since house chores and working with their oh so favorite scientist. But tough luck since they weren’t suppose to be enjoyable anyways, they’re called punishments for a reason. Though Menenius raised an eyebrow at the mention of demons since he said what he said Lyon, he was simply covering most of the loopholes that would cause problems down the line.
As peach eyes watched Lyon walk around the room for a bit, that made the younger tilt his head since huh, he actually thinking about this? But as the option for no sex for three weeks was chosen, Menenius nodded his head though hearing Lyon’s question, Menenius crossed his arms gently once more since ah....that’s the reason why. “No one else is going to have sex with me Helsos since I chose you after all, but yes I will be fine for three weeks. Since remember, if I was able to during the ten years then I can do it again no problem.” Then again...Lyon wasn’t there in Dalmasca so in turn, this really would be a test of willpower as his body had gotten use to Lyon’s once more. So far, he’s been three days without intercourse or really anything from the elder so he should be good.
“I am surprised that you chose this option actually. Thought helping Sicinius out would be the lesser of two evils, but I’ll go ahead and let Albeleo know that we’ll need an enchantment from him, and also make sure that he forbids the other mages, including Sartauvoir from break it until time is up. What he choses to cast will be his choice with a little suggestion from me.” Though honestly....he was curious to see how Lyon would work with this.

"3 things you want to know about me" HMM... top 3 favorite fictional old men? :P
TOP THREE THIS IS SO CRUEL.... HOW'S A BITCH MEANT TO PICK. But okay, FINE. XDD I'm picking ones who've been around the longest heh
1. Leonard "Bones" McCoy! I've loved him since I was in single digits watching TOS on my grandma's tiny portable kitchen TV heh. Absolute smokeshow, gorgeous accent, the works. I love one cranky doctor!!! He's smart, he's got heart, I adore his humanism and his friendship (and more!!!) with Jim, and oh my god, his blue blue eyes. And his forearms. And his EYEBROW and his fluffy hair!!!
2. Sartauvoir quo Soranus of FFXIV IVth Legion! He's a sadistic pyromaniac whose favourite pastime is burning people alive, and he's p obviously in love with his superior Basch van Gabranth (pictured here smooching his BEAUTIFUL FACE) who died 30 years before the bit of the game Sart is in. His bit of game is heavily Ivalice-based, hence the Basch heh. He transforms into a giant fire monster during his duels and has a penchant for summoning phoenixes and time magick fuckery, he's so much fun and is my absolute beloved. He has truly like a total of 20 minutes of game time and not a single cutscene and I adore him with every fibre of my being!!
3. This is a toss-up, but forever loves must win out: Doctor Cid, of FFXII! He's one of my fave kind of characters - super smart scientisty dudes who are a bit morally dubious and also antagonists 🥰🥰 I love the way he speaks, his beautiful nose and how chubby he is, and his stupid long thighboots and his super active way of gesticulating andandand- well ofc his relationship with Vayne. Obviously. And his little purple tie and his greying hair and WELL. HIS EVERYTHING.
#ask quail#old man bone zone#THIS WAS SO HARD HAHA#Thank u for the ask!!! 💚💚💚#I tried not to go on my sartbasch and cidvayne manifesto but what's a girl to do lol#I also managed to not pick more than one xiv guy although I have another three I could have listed immediately:#Lyon rem Helsos and Menenius sas Lanatus also from bozja with Sart!#and Gaius van Baelsar my other main biggest xiv love!!#and then there's Quintus van Cinna and Varis zos Galvus my other problematic faves.....#tbh they're all problematic faves cos xiv fandom has a problem where they equate all Garleans with being nazis???#which is one of the main reasons I have so much of that fandom blocked and all the tags muted here LOL#ANYWAY THANK U AGAIN FOR THE ASK!! 🥰🥰

The realization that despite fighting the Garlean Empire through two iterations of the Final Fantasy XIV base game and four expansions, the Warrior of Light has never killed a standing Legatus.
Nael van Darnus, Legatus of the VIIth - defeated in the Coils of Bahamut raid but finished off by Louisoix (at the behest of the primal Bahamut).
Gaius van Baelsar, Legatus of the XIVth - never killed.
Regula van Hydrus, Legatus of the VIth - killed by the primal Zurvan.
Zenos yae Galvus, Legatus of the XIIth - defeated at Ala Mhigo but ultimately commits suicide. Comes back to life but is stripped of his status in Garlemald society before he is killed again.
Former High Legatus Varis zos Galvus, Emperor of Garlemald - killed by Zenos.
Noah van Gabranth, Legatus of the IVth - never fought and is dubiously 'killed' in Bozja epilogues.
Valens van Varro, Legatus of the VIIth - popped like a grape by the Diamond Weapon controlled by Alphonse.
Quintus van Cinna, Legatus of the Ist - commits suicide after the failure to counter the Ilsabard Expeditionary Force.
Vergilia van Corculum, Legatus of the IIIrd - never killed.
I considered adding Solus zos Galvus/Emet-Selch to the list but frankly he's so far removed from his status as legatus after his long reign as Emperor, death and subsequent return as the secret power behind the throne that his one-time status as legatus is more a piece of trivia. The Warrior of Light also technically fights and kills Nerva Galvus, but his status vis-a-vis the royal family is dubious and he's become a blasphemy by the time he's fought anyway.
As such it means the highest-ranking, active-service Garlean officer the Warrior of Light has ever killed in battle is...
Livia sas Junius, Tribunus Angusticlavius of the XIVth - killed at Castrum Meridianum during Operation Archon
(Menenius sas Lanatus is equivalent rank, but the IVth has definitively abandoned Garlemald by the end of Bozja, so whether he counts is open to interpretation.)

Menenius sas Lanatus, the Elezen Tribunus of the IVth Imperial Legion, commanded the archaelogical mission to Dalmasca and Bozja. While of Ilsabardian descent, he sought to gain arcane knowledge from Allag and Ivalice. His main weapon was known as the Gunberd.

Free Write #3: Save the Queen
"So what exactly is wrong with Save The Queen?" Reinhardt asked as he knelt to help Riven up and over the edge.
"It had a taste for Bozjan queens." With a grunt, Riven let Reinhardt help her up, dusting off her clothes as best as she could. "Every single fight the Bozjans didn't think they could win, out came the sword and they'd perform the rite. The queen would Prime, defeat their foes, and then get consumed by the sword."
"Which means we're probably not just dealing with with the shade of one Queen Gunnhildr, we're dealing with multiple incarnations." Sebastian finished, his eyes narrowing. Reinhardt whistled lowly.
"Fuck me." He breathed. "I'm afraid to ask how many queens--" He caught Sebastian's eye. The gunbreaker shook his head.
"Too many. Like Riven said, any fight the Bozjans didn't think they could win, they made their queen Prime. I think about that Eikon, and I can feel Odin getting wary."
"Does Zurvan have any knowledge of Gunnhildr?" Augustine asked, looking at Reinhardt. The dragoon tilted his head to the side, and then shook it.
"Misija only seems to have control over one specific queen, her ancestor." Mathye mused, crossing his arms. "I don't know if that could change, though. And she hasn't Primed yet, either."
"The rite would require a great deal of aether." Riven said slowly. "And..." She trailed off, her eyes widening.
"What?" Sebastian asked.
"What you said. We might not just be dealing with one shade of Queen Gunnhildr, we could be dealing with multiple incarnations..."
"Misija might not be just content with just only setting her ancestor on us." Augustine had caught onto Riven's train of thought. "If Save the Queen does hold the souls of every Bozjan queen it used as it's Dominant, then this has become a much bigger problem that eclipses both the Resistance and the IVth Imperial Legion."
"...It'll drain the territory." Reinhardt concluded. "Holy fucking shite!"
"This has to be another reason why the IVth hasn't moved since Misija revealed her true colors. Menenius sas Lanatus isn't an idiot. Save the Queen is too dangerous to actively use." Sebastian finished. A cruel smile crossed his face.
"Misija has to be chomping at the bit over this!" Riven breathed.
"She's running low on aether to summon her Queen Gunnhildr and she probably only has token support from the IVth. Combine that with word having probably gotten back that you've declared vengeance upon her, and she is probably not in a good spot right now." Mathye added. Riven frowned at him.
"I very much doubt anything I said would have an effect on her." She countered. Reinhardt made to open his mouth-but Augustine put a hand over it.
"Don't."
"I mean it!" Riven stopped as Sebastian came up to give her a kiss on the forehead.
"Sweet innocent summer child. Stay that way, please." He quipped, then burst out into laughter as Riven shoved him.
"I don't know where everyone gets this idea that apparently I scare people. You lot have the more menacing Eikons." She groused, turning towards the broken trail. Then she yelped as Reinhardt hurried past her, ruffling her hair. Augustine followed, breaking out into a run as Riven started to yell, chasing the duo. Mathye began to follow his twin, Sebastian on his side.
"...Misija is going to do something stupid." He said.
"Or someone else will." Sebastian noted. "Morale has to be bad in the IVth right now. And when morale gets bad, people get scared. When people get scared, they do desperate things."

PROMPT #2: Bark
This piece is set roughly two years before XIV 2.0 and reflects part of the aftermath of the 2020 prompt #30 Splinter.
The night before the imperial audit was due to the capital, the 9th Bureau offices of the IVth Legion resembled the aftermath of an explosion - a comparison with which Alma was intimately familiar. Sheafs of paper obscured most of the great meeting room table in Hyur-tall columns that might once have held some deeper organizational purpose but was now more a testament to the workings of imperial procedure than any meaningful function. The air, too, was thick with sweat and breath; the confidentiality of their task prohibited them from opening a window, and the odors that had gathered throughout the evening served only to inhibit concentration. Dona eir Quinta had retreated to the veranda for a smoke break, Sadr rem Albeleo was attending to a security breach elsewhere in the building, and many of the other staff with whom Alma was much less familiar had collapsed after pushing far past their twenty-bell shifts.
As such, when the legatus strode in to the office, only she and Menenius sas Lanatus were there to greet him.
"How fare the preparations?" said Noah van Gabranth by way of greeting.
Menenius bowed his head with much more certainty than Alma had seen from him only a few minutes prior. "Proceeding apace, my lord."
"Good." But he paid no mind to the carnage of bureaucracy transpiring around him. "Velius. With me, if you would."
Her pulse quickened, as it always did whenever he addressed her directly. She stood from the page she had been annotating - a note on the damage done to Dalmasca's historical sites during the bombings under Livia sas Junius - and made to present herself at attention.
"And bring a writing pad," the legatus added.
Menenius raised an eyebrow, glancing back and forth between the both of them with unabashed curiosity. Whether out of unflagging obedience or abject fatigue, he simply nodded, and he left Alma to follow behind his superior when the latter made a quick exit.
"The prisoner is a collaborator of the Dalmascan Resistance," said Gabranth as they walked the halls of Nalbina Fortress to reach the keep. "A powerful mage with connections to the void."
She understood then why Gabranth had not simply done away with the prisoner: void mages were rare - those with enough scruples to land them in Nalbina, much more so.
"She has rejected multiple offers of friendship over the decades; nevertheless, we believe non-violent interrogation may yield insightful results. For her records, copy down our conversation in full, without shorthand. Make note of her expressions and any movements of her limbs."
"Yes, ser." The instructions were basic orders for an interrogation of any sort. What she could not yet grasp was why this task proved just as crucial as a half-completed audit that needed to be aboard an airship bound for the capital by the time the sun rose.
That question remained even as the legatus opened the door to the oubliette. The woman within the cage beyond was greatly diminished; Alma would have to inquire later how long her imprisonment had lasted thus far, given that she had been made to hang. All the same, her features were striking: long waves of purple hair cascaded down over her brown skin, and her tired eyes still shone bright amid the single candle that cast its light around the door.
"Ah," said the prisoner. One of her ears gave a twitch, one that Alma supposed was more out of instinct than any true emotion. "The imperial hound returns, now with a shadow in tow."
After serving in the IVth Legion for more than three years, Alma had seen firsthand how Noah van Gabranth was a man willing to tolerate a great deal of uncouth behavior, even rudeness, so long as they came from a place of loyalty. The Viera voidmage's jokes were nothing Alma had not heard before, even from within the 9th Bureau's own ranks - but to hear them from a prisoner was something far different.
But Gabranth did not react to her impudence with anger or amusement. Instead, he raised both hands to his helmet and lifted it from his head to hold it at his side.
It was the first time Alma had ever seen his face - though she recognized it from countless lithographs she had seen of Basch. There, in the dim light of the fortress, he might have passed for his father's ghost.
"State your name, for the record," said Gabranth.
Only then, with the invocation of her role, did Alma remember that she had been brought here for a definitive purpose.
Again the prisoner's ear twitched, this time in the direction of Alma's pen scratching upon the paper. Her eyes were locked with Gabranth's in a way she had never seen before, not even from his officers.
"Hrjt - that's H-R-J-T - of the Graylands. Called 'Brotin' in the Viera tongue. And I would humbly request, for the record, an acknowledgement that the legatus remains unable to pronounce my name, even after nearly thirty years of our dalliances." Here, she inclined her head as deeply as she was able to Alma. "And what is your name, dear scribe?"
"She is of no consequence," Gabranth interjected, and Alma found herself grateful for the words. "But you, Miss Brotin-"
"It may help if you think of it as containing a D, as the R is what is known as a 'flipped' R. 'HED-yet.'"
"-you may yet rise above your name." Alma could not help but abbreviate nearly every word that came through, could not hope to capture in full the crosstalk flying fast between the longstanding adversaries. "To do so, I would present you with this."
A brightness emerged from Gabranth's side, even before Alma glanced up from her furious scrawling. From a pocket inside his armor, he withdrew a piece of auracite.
Hrjt went still in her chains. She took in a deep breath of the putrid dungeon air, deep enough for Alma to make note of it upon the page - and then, in a mere instant, her eyes reflected the selfsame stygian light.
"Dark and cold is this lover's embrace," she intoned. Her voice had dropped several octaves in mere moments. "I lie among the boundless detritus, piled high atop the ruins of the outcasts - a feast for those who cannot sink lower. Look upon me! Partake of me!"
Alma wrote faster than she had ever written before, heedless of all but the need to capture the words as they came to her. Then Hrjt coughed, and murky saltwater poured from her mouth, all down the front of her ragged and stained shift.
"I am here," she whispered. She now spoke as a Dalmascan man would speak, using masculine-gendered grammar. Alma could barely speak Dalmascan, though she knew enough of it from listening to Rabanastran radios for bells on end.
And Hrjt's speech conveyed only desire in its simplest form - words simple enough to piece together through the fervency with which they were conveyed.
"Where are you, my love? I feel you, yet you are not with me. Our son, you-" She turned, then, to Alma. "My son. Do not bring him here. He would only drown in these depths."
"Your son?" asked Gabranth. His voice was both hard and dangerously sweet - a horrific sort of invitation. "Who is your son?"
Hrjt did not reply; she merely coughed again and vomited even more water from some unfathomable depth. When she righted her head, it was with the great fatigue that one would expect of a prisoner who had been hanging by her wrists for nigh on a week.
"No more," she said. "I've had enough of your barking for now, Your Honor. Permit me to go, and I will let you live to howl another day."
Gabranth, inexplicably, thrust the glowing stone back into his pocket.
Hrjt breathed in a quiet, steadying breath - and in an instant, a wreath of dark aether enveloped and subsumed her. By the time Alma blinked to confirm what she was seeing, Hrjt had vanished without so much as a single trace.
"Again," Gabranth mused. "Ah well. We will find her again. She always returns to Valnain."
Alma knew better than to ask more questions about this woman, or to speak of the stone that had been brought to subdue her; and so she followed the legatus back to the office and returned to her work.
