Daily hc once Odysseus aspired to immortality to be remembered, once it was offered to him and he rejected it for love
________________________________________
"Am I less smart? pretty or young than this Penelope?"The bitterness lingered in the goddess’s voice as she spoke since she heard she will have to let him go."No of course not,who could be better than you,my Penelope will age"Odysseus bow, charming but his smile It didn't reach his eyes ,he was saying so just to please her .He could finally return home, anger her wouldn't bring nothing good"And so will you, but I'm offering you immortality isn't that what you wanted??I'm offering you what men have dreamt and tried for centuries,You could stay here with me, untouched by time"Odysseus’s gaze turned distant"Once maybe I've dream of that, when I was younger. I wanted the muses to sing of me across eternity, the gods to know my name,Immortality seemed the greatest thing to me—something only the heroes could claim."the man scoffed at the memory ."Then take it! It’s yours! Here, with me, you’ll never grow old, never fade. You could be immortal,a legend!" " what is immortality without my Penelope? Or being the father of Telemachus?I’ve spent years longing for Ithaca, for my wife. my son. My mother died while waiting for me.my sister is alone.. and so she will stay in despair because of me,I see now that immortality means nothing to me anymore."

[wojak party meme] they (the people of Tumblr) don't know that
“Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?”
and
“The gods envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.”

list 3-5 snippets of literature/media that live in your head rent free to the point where you have them memorized. write them down from memory! (try not to cheat!)
1. “ There is a moment in every dawn when light floats, there is the possibility of magic. Creation holds its breath.” (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams )
2. “Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. So we ask ourselves, will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names, long after we’re gone, wonder who we were? How bravely we fought? How fiercely we loved?” ( Troy. Opening quote. 2004)
3.
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered; “But I like it”
“Because it is bitter”
“And because it is my heart.”
(In the Desert by Stephan Crane )
4.
The Human heart has hidden treasures,
in secret kept, in silence sealed;
The thoughts, the hopes, the dreams, the pleasures,
Whose charms are broken if revealed.
[ (first 4 lines) Evening Solace by Charolette Brontë]
And this gem,
5. “I don’t know. I don’t know, and I don’t know how to know, you know?”
(Definitely Maybe, 2008)
As a Phil. Major this last quote is just my mood 24/7. Thanks to @figues for tagging me! This was super interesting and fun to do! I did not realize how much I think about these until now aha..ha. I never know who to tag for these types of things so if you see this and want to do it, feel free!:) and tag me too! Love to see what quotes keep y’all up at night
#I don’t know why I only memorized the first 4 lines of that Brontë poem but they just hit that part in my heart#I love Troy and I can quote that entire movie really#tag games#philosophy studyblr#philblr#studyblr#light academia#lightrhetoric#dark academia#literature#media#quotes

Impact
What do you want? I have thought a lot about this question, in many different capacities. What to I want to have? What do I want to do? What do I want to be? To be truly honest I’m still not sure. Often times what I want changes by hour. However, some things are more permanent. I want to be happy, I want to be fulfilled, I want to be remembered. That may sound vain but I don’t think I am alone. To quote the movie Troy :
"Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?" -Odysseus
I want to make an Impact, to make a difference.I want to leave a legacy, to leave the world better than when I arrived. I think that’s why we crave attention. We crave notoriety. Relating to another post I created, what is the point of it all if we aren’t portraying our true selves. Step 1: Become Self-Aware. Step 2: Make the world aware of me.

If they ever tell my story let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses.

ROSTAM AND SOHRAB
When Rustum would still not believe that Sohrab was his son, Sohrab then gives him a proof. He loosened his belt and then removes the armor and shows him the seal which was given to him by his mother. Rustum is shattered looking at the proof. He realizes that the Sohrab was his son and he himself had killed him. In grief he utters out a loud cry, “O boy-thy father!”. He embraces Sohrab and kisses him. But his grief is too much for him to bear. He picks up his sword and is in the act of committing suicide. But then Sohrab stops him by giving him solace. He tells him “come, sit beside me on this sand, and take my cheeks and wash then with thy tears and say – My Son”.
Ruksh, the same horse given by Tamineh to Rustum comes on the scene. Being an animal, he is able to comprehend the sad fate befallen on his master and his son. Sohrab ironically praises Ruksh for having privilege of spending more time with his father than his own son. Finally Sohrab makes his final wish to be carried to seistan and to be placed on a bed, and mourned for him. He also requests to put an inscription which read, ‘Sohrab, the mighty Rustum’s son lies there, whom his great father did in ignorance kill’. Rustum promises him that he would fulfill his last wish. He also promises that he would let all his men go in peace without any bloodshed.
Don't take pride too high. Rustum has so much pride in himself that he forgets about humility. If He had humble himself when Sohrab asked if he is Rustum, hence he might not killed his son. With pride, there are many curses but with humility, there come many blessings.

The Battle Against Oblivion Is The Curse Of Great Men
The theme of beating oblivion is central to the film. The movie itself opens with the following words, delivered by Sean Bean’s Odysseus:
“Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?”.
Cowardness harms other people when you pretend you really are brave, because it turns out that other people will be the one who will suffer and take the consequences of the mess that you've made.
Love conquers all, Menelaus went to great length just to retrieve Helen back, he was willing to venture any miles and the sea to fight anyone to get his wife back.
ODYSSEY
In the story Odyssey, we can witness loyalty, compassion, self-control and perseverance. Odysseus is devoted to his family. He is determined to return home to his wife despite all of the obstacles in his way. The main idea would be a life's journey that is filled with trials. Odysseus has been at war for ten years and now he has spent ten years trying to get home. The journey has been long and full of tribulations and obstacles. But in the end, he gets to return home.
Just like in our life, we must face challenges to determine how far can we go, how strong is our will and how much do we trust ourselves. Obstacles makes us stronger and brings out the best in us. Making us a better person after all those trials.

"Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves, will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we're gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?" -King Priam It is strange to think that the heroes of legend were men such as us. They struggled with hate and love. They were selfish and generous. Kind and hard. They knew fear and joy. But their names endure for a reason. Photo by: @emoryjhobel (at The Vales of Ithilien)

Our ManClan Summer Series Summary:
In the experience of any man with a maiden, there will be a crisis, tragedy or horror to be faced at some point in their relationship. Epic drama will test and reveal a man’s character, propel him into some difficult task or face some terrible monster. Success and failure are the wings of Icarus, woven together for flight, but a positive outcome is never guaranteed. Some men are chased or eaten by the minotaur, others frozen to stone by Medusa’s gaze, some are transformed into Stags after stealing sight of the sacred beauty of a woman. Some men seem to be cursed with gargantuan personal problems that lead to perpetual impotence, unable to find meaning and satisfaction in their relationships.
In pursuit of Andromeda, some men will rise to the challenge and vanquish the chaotic sea serpent to win a noble and beautiful wife. They will find the favor and help of the gods and triumph over dangerous deities, serpentine gorgons or the prisons of mad kings. Married men will struggle with the mysteries of marriage as they discover in time, if they have given the golden apple to a woman who shares affinity with the goddess Hera, Aphrodite or Athena, the outcome, a blessing or curse.
The great myths of manhood echo names like Perseus, Actaeon, Priapus, Paris, Acrisius King of Argos, fisherman Dictys, King Polydectes, Icarus, Daedalus and King Minos. Each man’s name provokes tales of triumphs or terrors. Each man reflecting on these ancient tales will add his name in the records of time and eternity.
How will your name be remembered? What glorious deeds or dark devastations will be attached to it? Who are you mortal? Whose blood flows through your veins?
These are meaningful matters for each man to contemplate and ancient stories provide us a with literary mirror to see ourselves in light of the triumphs and tragedies of men of long ago.
“Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?” -Narration at the opening of the movie TROY.
