The YASHA Manga Archive Now Has Japanese Scans!

Extra! Extra! We now have raws of our beloved series in the archives! To give credit where it is due, I found these scans on an Aarinfantasy forum thread from 2006-2012, and I certainly wouldn't have found these scans without their unknowing diligence. Surely I would have found some scans somewhere, but it would've taken much longer surely.

A note on the raws under the cut

These raws seem to be lower contrast than the English scanlation by Megchan's Scanlations(featuring someone named 'Molly,' who I am unsure on the identity of.); I've compared the same panel from volume one of our favorite mom, Hisako.

These scans, as indicated by the Mediafire link where I found them, are only about three months older than the beginning of Megchan's translation. I hypothesize that perhaps these raws were used for Megchan's scanlation and she just upped the contrast to better fit with the font, but I cannot confirm this and please take it with the biggest grain of salt possible.

Poetry in Yoshida Akimi's Lovers' Kiss

I've been reading Yoshida Akimi's Lovers' Kiss. If you stumble upon this post, you should too. Megchan is scanlating it. The cover of the manga, as well as the title page of each chapter, has a French poem. I've never been into poetry, so I only thought "oh, nice" while reading them. However, that "il pleure dans mon cœur" one looked oddly too familiar to me. Then common sense hit me and I used google like any normal person would. And bingo, they were actual poems by French poets Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud! (They have a love story full of angsty drama, if you don't already know. Those dudes deserve their own manga in full 70s shoujo style.)

I decided to compile them here with their English translations. Yoshida is so great that she is making me, someone with zero interest in poetry, look these up.

The translations I used for Verlaine's poems are by Gertrude Hall, and Rimbaud's are by Martin Sorrell. You can check the full poems by looking up their titles, I'm only putting what's on the manga pages.

1. Il pleut doucement sur la ville by Paul Verlaine (1874). It appears on both volume covers and the title page of chapter 2.

Il pleure dans mon cœur (It weeps in my heart)

Comme il pleut sur la ville, (As it rains on the town.)

Quelle est cette langueur (What is this dull smart)

Qui pénètre mon coeur? (Possessing my heart?)

Ô bruit doux de la pluie (Soft sound of the rain)

Par terre et sur les toits! (On the ground and the roofs!)

Pour un coeur qui s'ennuie, (To a heart in pain,)

Ô le chant de la pluie! (O the song of the rain!)

2. Ma Bohème by Arthur Rimbaud (1870). It appears on the title page of chapter 1. Yoshida cut off parts of the verses.

Je m’en allais, les poings dans mes poches crevées ; (And so I went, hands thrust in torn pockets.)

Mon paletot aussi devenait idéal ; (My coat was more idea than fact.)

J’allais sous le ciel, Muse ! et j’étais ton féal ; (Beneath the sky––my Muse, my liege––I went;)

Oh ! là ! là ! que d’amours splendides j’ai rêvées ! (Oh my! what dreams of splendid loves I had!)

Mon unique culotte avait un large trou. (My one and only trousers were hugely holed.)

– Petit-Poucet rêveur, j’égrenais dans ma course (––Starry-eyed Tom Thumb, I strewed my path)

Des rimes. Mon auberge était à la Grande-Ourse. (With verse. I laid my head at Great Bear Inn.)

– Mes étoiles au ciel avaient un doux frou-frou (––My stars swished softly in the sky)

3. Colloque sentimental by Paul Verlaine (1869). It appears on the title page of chapter 3.

Dans le vieux parc solitaire et glacé (In the deserted park, silent and vast,)

Deux formes ont tout à l'heure passé. (Erewhile two shadowy glimmering figures passed.)

Leurs yeux sont morts et leurs lèvres sont molles, (Their lips were colorless, and dead their eyes;)

Et l'on entend à peine leurs paroles. (Their words were scarce more audible than sighs.)

4. Les reparties de Nina by Arthur Rimbaud (1870). It appears on the title page of chapter 4, and of chapter 6.

Je te parlerais dans ta bouche: (My lips against yours, I’d murmur,)

J'irais, pressant (I’d walk, hugging)

Ton corps, comme une enfant qu'on couche, (Your body, like a bedtime child,)

     Ivre du sang (Drunk on the blood)

Qui coule, bleu, sous ta peau blanche (That flows blue beneath your skin,)

     Aux tons rosés: (White, hints of pink,)

5. Ce qu’on dit au Poète à propos de fleurs by Arthur Rimbaud (1871), pt. IV. It appears on the title page of chapter 5.

Dis, non les pampas printaniers (Don’t speak of springtime pampas)

Noirs d’épouvantables révoltes, (Dark with dreadful revolt,)

Mais les tabacs, les cotonniers! (Speak of tobaccos, cotton-fields,)

Dis les exotiques récoltes! (Exotic harvest-times!)

Do you know if there are any English translations of lovers kiss by akimi yoshida??

Oh, you have impeccable timing.  Lovers’ Kiss has just been picked up by the lovely Megchan’s Scanlations. They’re honestly a veteran in fan translation, and has done most of the more obscure Akimi Yoshida stuff. I am. Still do. But the month December pretty much just threw all my plans out of the window. So yeah, I’m sticking around until the end of January, because I still need to get out one Det. Conan dj and also Misshitsu no Hisoka na Hoshi [ Oh lordy... ]

Ulp... I'm so shameless. orz

Wow, that sounds lazy of me (maybe because I'm currently at work too), but I dunno why, the chapter is just reminiscent of Franz Ferdinand's "Darts of Pleasure" to me for some reason. The only big difference is that while the song's about being flirty and seductive, this story is the complete opposite. With almost everyone's situation (especially Michika and Hibari) being gloomy and sorta morbid, because of the words (or rumors) that have been spout out so leisurely regarding Hibari, so... x(

Anyways, with me on hiatus on November, there'll be no Hibari updates, but we'll have a double Hibari release on December.

And thus, the end of Hibari's story…

But what saddens me is that this is the [untold/hidden/repressed] story of millions of women out there. Hushed by society, all over this goddamn world. And what angers me is society's shallow view and hurtful attitude of the topics of abuse like this, like it's nothing and that women should just accept their biology and lie back and let their bodies plundered and voices muffled. It's still a hard fact that most people are still self-righteous bastards, muddled with misplaced apathy and hypocrisy. Yamashita-sensei's anger shines through in this masterful story. She has every right to be pissed off.

Whoa, yeah. Such a heavy and bleak Christmas release. x'D Not exactly a cool time to be ranting. But here's the last two chapters of this series:

Just a quick triple chapters update (well, two to be exact. Baby Kokoro’s actually out a few days ago), ‘cause I’m going to leave for work soon. It’s Friday now, so I’ve been looking forward to typeset lots once I get back today. :) And also...I’ve been dying to draw too, but with the event passed ages ago, now I just feel sadder for each passing day. I really wish my old Mac would stop giving me problems. :’(

Continuing from the previous chapter, where guilt-ridden Kento wants to do something about Hibari’s situation but don’t know how, so he meets up with Tomiko to talk about it, so that she can talk it to Kan, her stubbornly clueless boyfriend, who’s also Hibari’s relative.

Not trying to spoil anything, but I emphasized that part because in this chapter, he really, really reminds me of that particular brother from Gunjo...

What saddens me is, I actually know a few guys just like that in my workplace. Uggh...

Three releases! ...And Happy Birthday, Megchan! \(^v^)/

Ookay....! First of all, Baby Kokoro was actually out 5 days ago! But I didn’t know at all (screw you work)! ^_^;;  But I’m thankfully on my break today (because of regional elections), so I’m finally able to wrap up Koiiji & Hibari no Asa, too, all in one post, just in time for my long time collaborator’s birthday, too! ( Okay... My post is actually a day late than his, but he posted right before the end of 26th -- Urrrggg.... Why am I always late??? )

Anyhoo, I haven’t draw for a looong time (since March, no srsly), and I decided to whip out something in less than 30 minutes as a gift before the day ended over there (aaand I still wound up a couple of minutes late! But whatevs xD) :

You’re the coolest collaborator I know, and I’m so honored to be able to scanlate with you for the past four years. You’re so patient, taught me a lot, and even willingly help my absurd requests like proofreading the whole Free Kisses! (YvY)  Without you, without Himegoto (where it all began) and a few more after that, I wouldn’t have known about the scanlating world ( which is sorta-private, pretty much illegal :p, but all the more fun and eye-opening ^^ ). So thank you very much, Megchan. All the best for you, your work, your family and your projects this year, and thank you for sharing all those mind-blowing, out-there, and super cute stories to all of us readers (yea, I’m your big reader too). /(TvT)/

At the same time, I’m also sad that this’ll be my last scanlating year, because comes Jan 2019, I’m gonna be a full-time creator of my own stories, so all my scanlating activities must cease by then.

But it’s not until a few months later (Dec 2018) -- as I still got 7+ BL titles I haven’t release this year!!! AaaaAARGH!!! Gotta crank myself up now! Fightfightfight!!! )

I’m 10(?) hours behind Megchan on posting this, mainly because I fell dead asleep as soon as I got back. It’s been a crazy and not-so-good two weeks, both at work and family life and it’s taking the toll out of me. Hopefully I can release a Hibari chapter right before the end of the month, but I dunno if I can make it. [ Welp, I can always save it for a double release next month :) ]
