Nope.
Y'all. This is not how business, economics, or countries work. Especially not McDonald's.
McDonald's Corporation owns properties, and all-beef patties.
It makes money by renting those properties to people, who additionally pay it a franchise fee, buy food from it, etc., to get set up as a McDonald's. Then they sell that food at a huge markup.
The money isn't "going into Israel's coffers."
ISRAEL doesn't own or franchise the McDonald's restaurants there.
McDonald's isn't buying the franchises from the Israeli government.
McDonald's is buying the franchises from Omri Padan, the Israeli businessman who owned and rented out McDonald's locations in Israel. At most, maybe he'll eventually pay taxes to Israel on whatever McDonald's pays for these locations? I don't know what Israel's business tax situation looks like.
BDS is just generating outrage and buzz by targeting big corporations. Their only goal here is to keep you outraged and unquestioning.
BDS is actually being sued by McDonald's in Malaysia for hurting their business. Because most Malaysians are super strongly pro-Hamas, and do not at all appreciate losing money for supposedly supporting Israel.
Not only are other Hamasniks angry about this, but so are Palestinian human rights activists.
Bassem Eid has been advocating AGAINST BDS for decades, because its boycotts of businesses who set foot in the West Bank has cost thousands of Palestinians their jobs.
The boycott first of all wants to punish the local subsidiary for donating a ton of food to the 22 towns that Hamas decimated during its invasion, and to the medical personnel who were treating them, six months ago... because it also fed the soliders who forced Hamas back out of the country... and offers them a 50% military discount?
Hilariously, when I look at whether McDonald's globally offers military discounts, it says, "Currently, McDonald's does not offer a military discount. However, military members and their families can save up to 50% off with the latest McDonald's coupons and discounts."
Oh worm? This is basically the equivalent of giving out coupons?
All BDS is doing is screwing McDonald's franchisees in the rest of the world.
The boycott is actively harming the franchisees in areas that support Hamas, because that's where people boycott McDonald's. And BDS is responding to that by claiming those franchisees are "bullying" it.
This is purely a BDS publicity stunt, trying to harvest as much outrage clickbait as it can.
Platform and support human rights activists in and from Palestine.
Not Omar "BDS" Barghouti, who grew up in Qatar and Egypt, went to college in the US (Columbia University) and in frigging Tel Aviv, and has become little more than a Hamas mouthpiece.
