In the mid-90s, Tim Burton pitched a concept for a sequel to his spooktacular sophomore masterpiece Beetlejuice, the title of which became a punchline in the hallowed halls of Hollywood in the years thereafter. Now, in 2024, Gotham Beat and Bat Minute are cracking open the crypt of this script and traipsing to the tropics to terrorise the locals! An all-star squad of podcast thespians join in to exhume another abandoned screenplay and bring Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian BACK TO LIFE!!

I just wanna talk about this bit from 610 for a second. The line of dialogue “Alright, cowboy, go get ‘em!” can be heard a few seconds AFTER the frames that I giffed, so the viewers won’t be able to see that the dialogue doesn’t quite line up with the actors’ lips, because... Look at how badly it’s “raining” over the actors here, they’re practically drowning in it. NO ONE is recording ANY dialogue under these conditions.

Which means that Eddie’s line had to be recorded separately and plastered onto the scene as we saw it on air. Now, you HAVE to do that for crucial dialogue lines, like the ones that indicate Chim and Buck switched in terms of which one went up the ladder, it connected with Chimney’s sense of guilt in the hospital, which we saw play out in 611. That in itself played a role in why it had to be Chim to help Buck in the coma dream.

But this line with the teasing, this flirtatious, half way to “I wanna throw you up against the fire truck and show you how you REALLY ride ‘em” line? That’s not quite as crucial in terms of the official plot. But IT IS crucial, or they wouldn’t go to the effort of recording and then adding it to the ep. So yeah, I know we all joke about this line, but really think about the fact that the show made an effort to include it, and then tell me our jokes don’t include a grain of truth...
