A very popular theory that Marisha really likes is that Maya - Cerrit’s daughter who had been gifted Patia’s orb that held all of her memories - helped build the Cobalt Reserve, a branch of the Cobalt Soul. The Cobalt Reserve’s mission, as we know, is to accumulate and preserve knowledge. 

She thinks that Maya and Cerrit, or at least Patia’s orb, ended up with the Cobalt Reserve, and that it was Cerrit's job to specifically influence the work that all future expositors would have to do.

Beauregard’s an Expositor of the Cobalt Reserve.

One of the archives of the Cobalt Reserve is in Marquet, known as The Temple of the Mentor, specifically in Ank'Harel. The city was visited by Vox Machina. Granted, Beau isn’t a member of that branch, but as a member, I’m sure she could access it.

As we learn in Call of the Netherdeep, the branch and archive of the Cobalt Reserve in Marquet was particularly dedicated to bringing down the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream, a cult dedicated to studying Rudius. Who, let’s be real now, is probably connected to the Ruby Vanguard.

The Cobalt Reserve Marquet branch discovered ruidium, a red mineral, which was named by the Consortium of Vermillion Dream because of the red color and their belief that it is connected to Ruidus, which they use in weapons.

Ruidium was created during the Calamity, and is imbued with magical properties that emits the power of Alyxian, the Apotheon. Also known as The Paragon as well as being a ruidusborn. He was blessed by three Prime Deities during the Calamity, one of them being the Changebringer. 

Ank’Harel has a temple dedicated to the Duskmaven - also known as the Matron of Raven or the Raven Queen - known as the Crossings of Eventide.

I know I’m repeating myself, but the Raven Queen is suspected to be ruidiusborn and is also a personal acquaintance of Patia before she ascended, whose orb may have ended up with the Cobalt Reserve.

Evidently, Matt has decided to say “fuck it with the subtle Calamity references” (as if they were ever subtle lol) and just straight-up reference the Ring of Brass. 

The B Team - Laudna, Orym, and Ashton - ended up in Marquet. What if they learn of and go to the Cobalt Reserve in hopes to find some information? I should remind everyone that Eshteross said he’d reach out to contacts in Ank'Harel, (c3 ep 11) naming some of them being part of the Temple of the Mentor. What if the B Team follows up on that? 

AND what if Caleb and Beauregard also ended up in Marquet and the B Team finds them. Then, they lead and help the B Team gain access to the Cobalt Reserve’s Ank’Harel library?

What if they find Patia’s orb? What if they meet some of Maya and Cerrit’s descendants, or they’re referenced in some way, since they were the ones who brought the orb there? What if that is how they learn of Avalir, of the truth of Calamity, and through that, come up with some way to stop/seal Predathos?

I know that Aabria thinks that Maya and Cerrit ended up in Niirdal-Poc instead but... well, not that Matt plays favorites but... Marisha is part of the B Team lol

TL;DR:

Marisha likes the theory that Cerrit helped build the Cobalt Soul and Cobalt Reserve with the help of Patia’s orb, specifically training future Expositors

Beauregard is an Expositor of the Cobalt Reserve

There’s a Marquet branch of the Cobalt Soul in Ank’Harel called the Temple of the Mentor

Love the callbacks to all the old campaigns but I'm still thinking about the birdfolk the Bells Hells ran into briefly who basically said 'you never saw us, right?' and then they fucked off. And then I think about Cerrit and Maya with the Exandrian version of the Library of Alexandria in her pocket and I spiral hard.

Anyway... Wonder if they'll factor into this end of world arc in a fun way.

Catching up on four sided dive and the independent witches episode got me thinking about patia and her orb again. If the intent was for patia to pass on all the knowledge she ever gained about the age of arcanum, why is there so much that modern (for lack of a better word) exandria doesn't know? What happened to the orb? Was maya agrupnin able to decode it at all? Were there password protected parts that patia forgot to unlock before she sent it off? Where the fuck even is the orb today?

Patia Por'co Past and Future

Alright, so I have not been able to stop thinking about the wonderful and complicated Patia Por'co, Keeper of Scrolls for the Library of Incantatum. Obviously I will never be able to ask Mathew Mercer and Marisha Ray in person. So this will have to do.

I know there is a theory about Patia, possibly being her daughter, but I've seen others pick plotholes in this and I agree there are some I can't explain away.

Personally, I fully believe it was a mentor/student bond the two shared, but was there something more? Not romantically. More like a pseudo motherly figure for Patia, because we know she lost the memory of her parents. It was also basically confirmed they were taken by Imyr Por'co and not the mind wiping of the previous god of death and the Matrons name.

I ask this question from the pov of the Matron. Because if I worked my entire life to do this one thing that could change the very fabric of Exandria. Why would I tell my random student about it? So there has to be more that only Matthew or Marisha could say. Right?

In my opinion and Travis has talked about this a little bit in talks about Fjord. But if you are missing a person in your life like a mom or dad or teacher or friend, etc. We sort of go looking for replacements to fill in those gaps. We can even see this a little bit with Imogen and Deanna. Trying to replicate what Liliana and Imogen could of possibly had. So it isn't out of the ballpark for Patia to go looking for the same connections.

All that being said, what is their Relationship? Depending on the answer, it could make Patia's view of the gods even more tragic. She cared greatly for this motherly mentor figure and just like everyone else in her life up to that point, she leaves as well.

My second question is about her orb she sent to Maya. I think we've all heard the theory at this point. It's very popular for a reason amongst the fans. If you haven't heard it basically Patia had a hand to play in creating the Cobalt Soul.

I love this theory because it's so Meta. Marisha has crafted a connection (possibly unknowingly) to all of her characters. If you don't beleive me, Patia had a hand to play in destroying the tree. As well as finding out the secret meetimg between the Gau Drashari. A group who would later be known as the Ashari aka our favorite Voice of the Tempest, Keyleth. She was there at the kick start of the Calamity which leads to many battles one of which Pelor plants a tree for Ioun after being very wounded. To people setting there aka Whitestone. (This one is more of a stretch I know, but it ties really well to the raven queen and the distint connection both Patia and Laudna has to their respective Death deities.) Sorry for the rant.

Getting back to the actual topic and connection Patia has to Beau. So my theory is that She gave the orb to Maya, but like previously stated. This theory also has several plotholes and it kind of unrealistic. The calamity was this massive century spanning war killing 3/4ths the population and Eisfuura do not live long. So maybe instead of Maya building the Cobalt Soul. The Agrupnin family seek out protection through the Prime deities. Ioun would be the most fitting for the family just because of Cerrit's views and skill set about knowledge. (Finding it and Protecting it.)

I also theorize Maya would learn to view the memories of Patia, making her push for the end of corruption for future generations. It was out of hand and hurt alot of people. Including a factor in starting the war. Still like I said, it's a little unrealistic because they don't live long. In spite of that Cerrit could still train a group possibly including the kids with his to go find information about any threats. Betrayer gods, their armies, etc. In hopes of one day ending the war. The techniques, the orb, the information, and overall message to stop corruption could have slowly passed down in time until someone could fully begin the organization.

I would even be fine with the orb not being with them currently. We saw a mysterious village in the mountains with the Wildmount group in C3 during the teleportation mishap. It could be there. As long as the message was passed down and Maya and Patia had a hand to play in the beginning of our favorite Expositor's story. That's all I ask.

P.S. any and all theories could/will very much likely be disproven by Matt and future CR. In fact I expect it too and will be ecstatic when we do find the canon explanations. Also sorry if this doesn't make any sense. This is my first time interacting on Tumblr.

had a dream about cerrit agrupnin and his kid Maya despite not having watched Calamity. It was all about them trying to find a safe place to live and I think there was a suggestion Cerrit had been kept in a cave at one point because he brought Maya there before a huge slug monster came and they panicked and fled.

Maya was definitely a lot younger than she was in the show, because she was like. Baby sized. Or 3-4 year old sized?

At one point they flew out of Fenrir's mouth so I think that dream got. VERY psychedelic sgshsk

OH. Typing this I remember. I also got hunted by Nandor in a supermarket and had to distract him with clementines which are really good. I also remember yelling for Guillermo to come and help me but like, remembering it, the character model my dream used for him was definitely Nandor himself. I don't know why I was calling Nandor Guillermo. I also haven't watched WWDITS.

I think for the through line between these scenarios was I was Cerrit trying to hide Maya and I'd gotten spooked by being attacked by Nandor? I'm aware that this is OOC for Cerrit by the way, the Eyes of Avalir don't run from some vampire. Recall this was a dream and please don't critique my characterization

At one point me and Maya ended up in South America, not anywhere Real just generically south America.

They were also griffons, I think? Not aarakocra. I recall Cerrit/Me and Maya being leonine as well as having wings.
