Eliza's family mansion let her in, it seemed there was always someone wanting something from her, so she wasn't surprised by this request, but she'd still give a scrunched up look on her face as she looks over the paper, careful not top prick them with her claw.

There's two, whenever you accidentally run into a discussion on fights people saying the standard rwby characters can beat people like Superman or Blue Marvel or hulk they mention two feats that go nowhere.

The first feat is a non sequitur because it's established in the show itself that a hard enough hit can one shot Aura so anyone strong enough to destroy a mountain can rock a Rwby character in a hit. And in addition to this if a Rwby character can be and is durable because of Aura, it would stand to reason someone without Aura would probably be more durable because thy don't need a magic shield.

Think of it like this- If yang gets bitten by a bear and her aura drops then batman gets bitter by a bear and the worst it does it hurt and annoy him- I'd argue batman has a more durable body- he also wears armor unlike Yang. How can you know if a RWBY character is more durable if being flung through a building if they constantly have protection? Wouldn't that make their pain tolerance weaker than the average fighter who deals with it a possible daily?

The lightning feat

Mercury dodging this lighting also ruined discussion on the series, everyone seems to think because of this dodge, that merc barely dodged btw (That's the point) That everyone can move at light speed- despite that not making any sense. Cause it wouldn't apply to people who didn't personally fight merc A. and B. ruby dodges his punch and he stands there like an idiot and she headbutts him so either the speed ain't consistent or mercury is a major dumbass who can't comprehend that people can...duck?

If anything it shows Merc alone can move fast, maybe yang but they aren't consistent with it so I choose to ignore it, sometimes characters can't outrun bullets, sometimes they can't move faster than people who don't have speed powers, or can't dodge a slow robot so I don't factor that in- but some people are so weirdly attached to it- I'm tired as hell of it.

That's just me though, as you said it's a small issue people turn into a mountain of bullshit, to the point it can become such a pain to deal with.

having split off from the rest of their team , the two made their way towards the back alley , mei had her own reasons for wishing to head there , aside from thinking it would be a place where she could buy information off of people -- had she had intentions of hoping to find someone she could rob some chrome off of ? well , they can brush past that for now .

the heap , a place always seeming on the move , only managing to find it by pure luck was as good as striking gold , if they needed information , this would be the place to get it , she's gonna need to get lucky , with only eighty-one credits to her name , worth while information may be hard to come by .

she first took a look around , her eyes looking for anyone who stood out -- right away , two people caught her eye , a rather expensive looking man , who looked . . . rather out of her price range , she'd probably go broke trying to get information out of him , so she'd go for the second option .

the only man in this place without anything covering his face had caught her attention , he stood out from the rest for better or for worse , fingers tapping upon a holographic screen at speeds she couldn't keep up with .

mei slowly approached , which had caused him to dart up , as if daring her to step closer -- she looked over him for a moment , she couldn't sense any violence . . . more like he was the sassy type , so she took another step closer , him speaking up right away .

" what's your issue? need something? go find it somewhere else. "

she wasted little time with small talk , cutting straight to the chase .

" apologies -- i don't mean to bother you , i was just hoping you might have some information to spare , i could buy it off of you , of course ."

" if you can afford it, " he grunts, " what're you after? "

" we're looking for someone -- a woman with gray hair and violet eyes , we had heard she's been around here lately , would you have happened to spot anyone fitting such a description ? "

code 024 , to be specific . . . someone who apparently went off the radar and became a sympathizer , little is known , so it's quite hard to ask around with such limited information .

. . . only five credits for the information ? it took little hesitation to hand it over .

“ nope, haven’t seen shit. she got a name? ”

a sigh , that made sense . . . she'd move onto a more bold and direct ask . " would a code work ?"

he raises a brow. " huntin' syndicate? brave. sure. "

" you seemed like the the type to not mind so long as the payment was met , am i wrong ? 024 . " it was a gamble , but judging by a reaction , he didn't know nothing . was said nothing what she was looking for ?

he taps away at his hologram a moment, then grimaces. " this isn't just any ask, y'know. that's high security info you're after. fifty-five, and consider a tip for the trouble. "

a hefty price . . . being as she's already down 76 credits , that would leave them with very little for other information or things they might need . " quite a hefty price for information i don't know if you have or not , you charged me low for information you didn't have , but charging me high for information i'm unsure of . . . "

so why not make an attempt at bartering ?

he didn't seem too pleased , letting out quiet grumbles as the two discuss momentarily , seems he'd settle for fifty , at least that's five credits saved . . . she handed it over , as agreed .

with a grunt and a lot more tapping, your man does his job. “ i won’t jack your tech, swear, but for the bargain i won’t promise not to leave a stray virus. ” another few taps and your peripheral lights up with a date entry that reads: 024, special attack code: rebuild status, complete system overwrite: deceased “ your girl’s a syndicate legend. double digit codes mean business, and it looks like she’s the only surviving member of whatever shitfest she was assigned to. ” a shrug, your peripheral darkens again. “ won’t leave anything that’ll get you or me in any trouble on your drives, don’t worry. ” he adjusts, moves to stand up. “ they rebuilt her, she ran. looks like she’s be spotted a few places by now, doesn’t go by her code anymore either. can’t track a name, though. seems she’s got a runner of her own keeping it off anything i can find. ”

she took mental note of all this -- some quite valuable information she's been given , rebuilt and fleed , huh . . . that's strange , it's a situation where one has to wonder if you're even the same person after being rebuilt , but those thoughts are for later on . " i think that's quite a great bit of help . . . i'd ask about the last place she'd been spotted , but . . i'm not sure if i'm able to afford that , so i think we'll keep moving , if that's alright . "

the man gives a thumbs up before mei turns away , taking a step back as her attention turns towards Sara , she had just spent quite a while talking with the other , perhaps Sara had something she wanted to say or ask .

024 02MOON 29

We got more entries yesterday. Letters, unsigned, that filled me with a level of dread I have not felt in ages. The words read like a new cycle of bishop, but the thing that scared me most was the mention of the uprising starting within the walls. If they know about us, why be so lenient with it? Why not stop the rebellion starting in the walls instead of focusing on who resides out in Trench?

My friends outside have kept me updated the best they can, even while I disappeared, but there's still so much unknown to them and myself. So I went looking in the only place that might hold any answer.

Walking through the streets, a smiling corps stopped me in the street. Seeing him made me want to run knowing it was the kind of trickery the bishops could do, however, something about his familiar warm smile and way he held himself made me stop. He spoke of collecting all of those in the FPE underground, of teaching them ways of the outside. Needless to say, I did yap his ear off for making me think he was dead, but he explained things to me. His new ability, the strange dreams he was always vague about, and how those momentos of hope used to seemingly appear in my cell when he was away. Keeping hope alive even in death was very like him.

I didn't learn until the end of the meeting that he had been seized by another old friend. im still unsure how to feel about it

He asked for my help gathering the FPE's ready to be free, a strange thing coming from a face we both knew and loved and voice that wasn't his, but I eagerly agreed. We found the people and a place to meet, a place he could quietly teach them of what lay beyond the walls and ways to leave. He shared a plan, something I can not share here, with the wrong prying eyes and perked ears.

Overcompensation was a word he used a lot, something not many had considered before. Overcorrecting to stop from falling off the deep end at the bend we are quickly approaching. I hadn't considered it before, but he's never steered me wrong before.

My mind is still running with everything that happened during the meet. I want to stand by his side once more, but something in the back of my mind tells me to hang back just a bit. Wether it's just precaution, Reisdro's teachings trying to tug me back, or something more is unknown, what I do know is that we will need to push hard in a direction we have never pushed before and do so without fear of what if's. Maybe I'll find where I belong in the process.

To any on the fence who are unsure of what side to fall on, may this push you one side or the other.

so just the other day i got to MAG 065: Binary in my re-listen and i completely forgot about the argument Tim and Jon get into at the end of the episode. may i just say. ow. Tim's storyline hurts my soul beloved i'm so sorry :(((( his downward spiral is so painful to listen to; i hope he's having fun on his kayaking trip with Sasha. in both Tim and Sasha's cases, my opinion of them was fairly neutral in my first listen-through (moreso for Sasha, since she got so much less mic time), but in aforementioned re-listen i have now cried over both of them. specifically in MAG 039 and 065. and i likely will again. giving Tim a big ol' hug.

she!!!! :D :D when i re-listened to MAG 024: Strange Music and got to the calliope pronunciation bit, i literally could not stop smiling. my girl!! i love her!!! i treasure every single second she's on-audio, especially the two snippets we get in 161 and 162. she's so fascinating, certainly one of the most reckless of the archives crew (she snuck into a graveyard at midnight, without telling anyone where she was going, because a monster told her it wanted to help her save her friends, not to mention the fact she risked a wormy death to save Tim), and i am shaking her by the shoulders as we speak. and tbh, i'm real sad about the way fanon has warped her character, so a while back i went and listened to every scene she's in and made a whole list of observations about her Actual character and personality, so i knew how to portray her more accurately in my writing. fanon!Sasha my beloathed (and fanon!Tim too).

The group all sat there in rehearsal, Andy yawning at how early in the morning it was.

"Hi, thank you all for coming to rehearsals in the morning. I know its a crazy day with the career fair and all but given all your behavior last week, I believe we are lucky to be rehearsing at all," Miss Jenn explained.

They could all hear the disappointment in her voice at the way that they had acted.

"Okay. I'm just gonna say it, Zack Roy stole out Beast mask. Why are you not freaking out?" Carlos questioned.

Andy nodded her head in agreement. EJ kept reaching over, brushing his finger against hers and smiling innocently whenever she shot him a glance telling him to stop or they'd expose themselves.

"Because winners don't freak out Carlos," Miss Jenn said, nodding her head, "When they go low, we sing high,

"Uh, have either of you seen Nini?" Ricky asked Big Red and Andy who were on either side of him.

"Every time I open Instagram," Big Red said, holding up his phone to show Ninis singing page.

"I think he means here in school," Andy explained and Big Red nodded his head.

"Okay let's rehearse. EJ, remember where you are emotionally, Belle has just rebuked your marriage proposal and LeFou is rallying the guys to boost you back up. Let's hit it," she said.

"Dont forget to start on your left foot at the start of the chorus," Gina said, turning to EJ and Andy.

"Thank you. Anything else?" He asked and Gina nodded.

"Dont be distracted by your girlfriend, I dont care how secret you two are, his heart eyes are gonna give it away," Gina said, smiling at them.

Andy felt the blush growing on her cheeks and she looked away, hoping that nobody had heard that.

"And don't fall over," Andy suggested, EJ laughed, smiling at her.

Every day it was becoming more and more difficult to not show their relationship off but he wanted Andy to feel comfortable, and if she wanted to wait a little while to tell everyone. He'd wait, he'd wait a hundred years for her if he had to.

Andy and Gina walked over to the stands, sitting in front of Ashlyn who cheered Big Red on.

Seb started playing the song and Big Red started singing. Everyone cheered him on.

It was hard for Andy to take her eyes off of EJ, despite the fact that Big Red was acing the performance.

Everyone applauded for them, EJ getting up at his part, "As a specimen yes I'm intimidating," he sang, flexing his muscles and shooting Andy a wink.

They continued to sing, Andy blushing profoundly at his gesture. "When I said don't be obvious, I didn't mean show of your muscles and flirt with your girlfriend," Gina said.

Andy chuckled, her face still burning as she looked at EJ. Gina smiled at her friend, the two laughing about it before focusing on his and Big Red performance.

He started juggling a bunch if eggs, everyone applauding him and Big Red. The boys were amazing, nobody able to compare to their talent.

"Dancers, glorious. Big Red, hilarious. And EJ, victorious," Miss Jenn said and he smiled, everyone applauding.

"Nice emotional connection to the material," Carlos said. EJ had the biggest grin on his face, smiling at the fact that he finally managed to get that right.

He had been wanting to be able to grow as an actor ever since and it was nice to know he'd finally gotten it right.

"And as much as I hate to break that connection, I'm afraid I'm the bearer of some bad news," Mr Mazzara said as he walked in, "We just got a call from the disciplinary board of an organisation I'm not sure even exists,"

He then explained that the production had to be shut down for a week as punishment for the trespassing. Everyone gasped, even though North High received the same punishment.

"Miss Jenn, we can't lose a whole week when we haven't even started blocking the second act yet," Carlos stated.

"We are going to keep our heads down and our chins up," she said unconvincing.

"I don't...I don't think thats physically possible," Seb said, trying to do it himself.

"Its an expression Sebastian," Miss Jenn scolded, not seeing the hurt expression on Sebs face as she said that.

The school bell rang and EJ and Andy started walking to the next lesson, Andy complementing him on everything.

He had the biggest grin on his face as they talked about the rehearsal. She sat down in class, him sitting in front of her.

They sat there, EJ turning around to talk to Gina, Carlos, Andy and Seb, "Do guys have any guesses on the guest speaker?" He asked.

"Unless it's Alan Menken himself coming to apologise for what happened to us, I'm not here," Carlos explained.

"Ooh, I would die if it was like, Greta Gerwig," Seb said, a huge smile on his face.

"As long as she brings Timothée Chalamet or Saiorse Ronan, they're so hot," Andy said, her and Seb smiling at each other, "And great actors of course,"

"You know you're not picking the person, right?" Carlos questioned, Seb shrugging his shoulders.

There was something weird going on between the duo and Andy had only just noticed it.

"Whoever it is, I'm sure they'll remind us to seize the day and then let it go," EJ said, Andy nodding.

"Every year, same speech, but I'm still rooting for it being Satan one year," she confirmed, EJ smiling at her.

He laughed at her silly little joke and she looked over at him.

It was surprising that everyone hadn't noticed how head over heels he was for her yet with all those grins and flirty looks.

"Class, class, I am thrilled to present one of East High most generous benefactors," their teacher said as a man walkes in.

Andy saw EJ tense up instantly. It was his dad. She reached over - because she sat behind him - and gently squeezed his shoulder before watching him sink down into his chair.

"Mr Cash Caswell with tips on success in life," Mrs Day explained and everyone applauded except for Andy and EJ.

"Called it," Andy whispered to herself, talking about the fact that she knew Satan was visiting today.

"Students, its an honour. Success is all about legacies. The ones that we inherit, the ones that we build," he explained.

Andy couldn't see EJ's face but she knew he was uncomfortable, he never was happy when his dad was around.

"I'm lucky to have a son that carries the Caswell name with pride," he explained, "In fact, I wasn't going to do this today but come on up here Eej,"

EJ looked around before standing at the front of the class, "This isn't gonna go well," Andy said to Gina who was sitting next to her.

"Oh come on, his dad seems like an okay guy," Gina said, not knowing what Andy knew.

She had known him for so long and had known the family that she knew what Cash Caswell could be like. He was manipulative and a had person to him.

"Just wait," she said, staring at EJ at the front. She gave him a reassuring smile, one that he struggled to return.

"My father gave me this when I got into Duke, now its yours," Cash said and EJ looked at it confused

Everyone applauded, Andy joining in but seeing that her boyfriend was clearly distressed.

She knew that he hadn't gotten in. She had been there to comfort him when it had happened so she was confused what was going on now.

Cash whispered something in EJs ear before EJ sat down, holding his Duke jumper in his hands and putting on a fake smile.

"Now, how many of you are familair with the phrase, seize the day?" Cash asked.

"You okay?" Andy whispered, leaning over her desk.

He looked back at her, shaking his head, "I'm fine," he said. She wanted to just reach over and pull him into a hug and promise everything was gonna be okay but she couldn't.

She knew that there was something going on here and she was going to get to the bottom of it.

Spider-Man Read-Through 024: Shang...ri-La (GSSM 2, ASM 138-140)

Today's post features Fu-Manchu, a bromance, purple, a bear (<3) and psychic powers, woohoo!

In our first issue, Spider-Man faces (and then fights with) Shang-Chi, who you may now know from the MCU. Back when I was a kid, I heard of him through Giant-Size Spider-Man #2.

The story begins with Spidey interrupting thievery by men who soon die unexpectedly, just as they start telling our hero about their master (Shang-Chi... or is he?). I feel like that idea of criminals dying as soon as they're about to tell all secrets has already been used recently on the comics but I'm too lazy to look that up. Shang-Chi's the son of Fu Manchu, the actual baddie and a cliché of the West's vision of Asia.

The issue's nice, it's an obvious imitation of typical kung-fu movies and it works much better than other SM 100% fighting issues.

Now, onto the main plot...

Here's how ASM 138 opens:

I'm putting those panels for two reasons:

to show Peter is still a handsome motherfucker (affectionate)

to appreciate the continuity! Last ish, Harry did blow up their condo, and there's consequences for that! It's great to see.

Peter calls each one of his acquaintances, but none can house him (not surprising considering how much of an ass he was after Gwen's death), except one... as Peter's last call is for his old frenemy Flash.

AND THUS BEGINS THE FLASH/PETER SHIP'S GOLDEN HOUR. Look at Peter in the third panel, acting like a school girl who just asked her crush out. You go, Pete! Go get him!

Gerry Conway and Ross Andru seemed quite attached to realism. Why not! I do appreciate the purple.

There's an ugly villain with mystical powers just waiting to feed on Peter's aura, but we've got more pressing matters, such as:

Boyfriends!!!

"Slugging", huh...

I'm probably putting too much panels, but this issue is plain gorgeous.

The villain's story is absolutely horrifying, just like the premise of his powers.

I'm sorry, I don't have many observation to give, it's just an interesting issue to me and visually quite gorgeous (purple pants!!!).

Charles S. LeCates thinks that the Jackal is actually Richard, the Kingpin's son. He's apparently the only one who had that thought! That's not a bad theory... but it's incorrect. Oh well! Other theories are: the Jackal isn't a costume and the Jackal is the thief who murdered Uncle Ben. Hmm! Still wrong.

In the opening pages of #139, Peter says it's been "a few months" since Gwen died and "three weeks" since he became Flash's roommate. His life has been pretty hectic!

Unfortunately for me, he's already found a new appartment thanks to Liz when I was fully ready to see some Peter/Flash shenanigans. They were too gay to be featured as roommates for more than a single issue!

The Grizzly suddenly attacks the Daily Bugle, but Jameson's not interested.

(He's still attacked anyway.)

Jameson is saved by Spidey, who ends up following the Grizzly as Peter...

Can I just say how much I love this ending? It's a great moment. A bit silly on Peter's part, but very gloomy. Frightening, actually. My child self was scared of the Jackal's hand jumpscare hahaha. It's very effective! The penultimate page is actually quite liminal.

This is also the end I was left with for at least a decade.

...Well, not exactly. See, I also read those little jewels:

The first one compiles issues 144-151, that is to say, most of our next batch (the OG Clone Saga), so I haven't read issues 140-143, but I still know what happens after that.

The second one, while I'm at it, covers issues 30-35 of ASM Vol. 2 (2001) and thus ends just after Peter reveals his secret identity to a certain somebody... and I still don't know how they react!!!!! Can't wait to get there in, like, ten years.

So we have a final issue in this batch, one that I've never read. What are we waiting for?

I think I remember her so I'm pretty sure she features in later issues. Hmm, a model... Is Marvel trying to introduce a rival to MJ?

Flash is very interested in her, but she's obviously much more into Peter.

So here's some more arms and colors, because we all deserve it.

Hoping the Jackal was bluffing, Peter tries removing his bracelet... and succeeds with the power of blue flames! I wish he hadn't been able to discard it so quickly, especially considering the Jackal should know Peter's quite smart...

...and also a joker.

Jameson isn't so bad himself. He ruined the Grizzly's wrestling career!

Following those revelations and a few gags, Spidey tracks down the Grizzly and proceeds to strip him.

With the Grizzly neutralized, Spidey assures him that someday, he'll get the Jackal.

OH MY GOD??????? I'M SO HYPED! WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!
