As dusk falls, Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second-largest city, will be filled with light and magic for the splendid Yi Peng Festival. This deeply symbolic festival represents the act of letting go of negativity and opening up to new beginnings, and is celebrated during the full moon of the second month of the ancient Lanna calendar. It highlights the release of the “khom loi”, the iconic floating paper lanterns that, as they rise, transform the night sky into an ocean of golden lights. In addition, the streets are decked out in vibrant parades, traditional dances and exquisite festive decorations, creating a truly unique atmosphere.

There needs to be a way of describing 'the next four months' that doesn't sound like a business meeting, if someone in earnest said 'Q1' to me outside of work stuff I'd slowly back out, walk away and then probably spontaneously combust in flames five minutes later

#but with e.g. album release cycles n stuff sometimes you do want to say 'the first four months of the year'#bc when folks are releasing albums in that period and planning to go on tour and such; they're also thinking about the fact #that summer music festivals start right around end of April #it does depend on where you are of course but often musicians will travel for festivals so they keep it in mind #European summer fests do kick off between April and June lasting until ~October #US and Canada are more July to September #Indian music fest season is December to March bc we nearly killed the last white boy who decided to try and do an outdoor summer show here #let's say 34C + spotlights doesn't go well... also it was like Bieber or some popstar and it was in July.#JULY. GIRL. You were not made for that #(obv this has me worried for Lollapalooza this year bc it's in MARCH. For context March-May are 41C; they're not making it)#and obv southern hemisphere the whole thing is flipped seasonally -- but back to 'first four months of the year'#'1st 4 months' folks are thinking about like having singles out in time for people to know the words at festivals if they're big enough #for smaller artists it's less about having singalongs and more so that they want their most impressive work to be ready to showcase #to a crowd that mostly doesn't know them but might leave as new fans. With how much money artists lose doing festivals #this is one of the main reasons new artists still do it (the ol' 'exposure' stick returns to beat us all)#also 'first 4 months' artists are sometimes aiming for the eligibility period for awards like the Polaris; Mercuries; Choice Prize etc.#and i do Not want to call these 'Q1' artists; I'll kill someone first

#I'm fortunate enought the grief - on most days - just prickle me in the sidelines. but then there are moments of agony and fear #of deep sorrow. one story especially that made me feel today is a woman and her husband who she could only be married to for a month.#because escaping with their friends for their life from a music festival her husband were murdered in the car they were in. she saw him die #in front of her eyes and then applied his fresh blood on his and her friends' body so the terrorists will think they're dead. last thing he #said to her was to duck under the car. then he was dead. and doing just that they heard awful things. rape was one of them.#confirmation of killing. kidnapping. and rape - hearing a woman's desperate plea for help and feeling so helpless. hearing her screams. lou #it's so painful just to hear it. to know it happened. to see the grief on her face. so how must she and so many more have felt?#little people in this world as as brave and strong as she is #I'm sorry for the families... may your loved ones' memory be a blessing #anyway back to never returning to this awful site #“love to the people here who know I love them even if I hate this app and its toxicity and bad mental health effect”

A: 28*13 = 364, so you still need an extra day every year (and an extra extra every four)

B: The lunar cycle is 29.5 days, not 28 - it'd be out of whack with this calendar in less than one new 13-month year.

C: doing math in 13s is a pain in the ass; 12s are way easier - which is why the Babylonians came up with the duodecimal system (and where, via the Egyptians, the idea of a 12-month calendar originates) in the first place!

#also why there are 24 hours #which are 60 minutes long #which are 60 seconds long #all multiples of 12 #the Egyptians had twelve 30-day months #and then just 5 extra days #(which may have been used for religious observances)#(or festivals)#(I can't remember which)#(possibly both)#math!
