STERLING MORRISON: Lou called Maureen Tucker and I to a meeting at the Riviera Café in the West Village to announce that John Cale was out of the band. I said, "You mean out for today or for this week?" And Lou said, "No, he's out." I said that we were the band, that was it, graven on the tablets. So then there was a long and bitter argument, with much banging on tables, and finally Lou said, "You don't go for it? Okay, the band is dissolved." Now I could say that it was more important to keep the band together than to worry about John Cale, but that wasn't really what decided me. I just wanted to keep on doing it. So finally I weighed my self-interest against John Cale's interests and sold him out. I told Lou I'd swallow it, but I didn't like it. I'd have to say that Lou bumped John because of jealousy. One friend said that Lou had always told him he wanted to be a solo star. Lou never confided that to us, but John and I always knew that he really wanted some kind of recognition apart from the band.

YES, IT'S ALL TRUE, THE V.U. PLAYED A GIG AT BEVERLY HILLS HIGH SCHOOL.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on yearbook pages featuring American rock music group THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, performing live and taking part in an assembly at Beverly Hills High School, Los Angeles, CA, c. 1969.
All the family-friendly hits were played, of course. Definitely-absolutely nothing off of their '67 debut, I'm sure. Lol!
