📽️ How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

I can honestly say that I have never seen another movie like this one. Not only is it a unique storyline, but it also has the perfect cast. I could watch this over and over again, and I have. The second-hand embarrassment, the cringey moments, the sweet heartfelt scenes — it’s all perfect. I really really like this movie.

Sex/nudity: 3/10 (kissing/making out, talk of genitalia, talk of sex, no sex scenes but sex is implied)

Language: 3/10 (a lot of sh*t, no f words, God’s name several times)

Violence: 1/10 (man is punched with minimal blood)

Overall rating: 9/10

Chapter 328: The Exchange (Pt. 1)

It was nearly midnight when Theresa, Stephanie in tow, reached the temple, which lay about two miles north of Luxor’s city center.

The ruin was deserted, since the site’s hours ended at 8 p.m. Fortunately, the gate was open – whether by coincidence or design, they did not know.

“Wow, this is impressive,” Stephanie said. “One of these days, I’d like to come back – you know, under better circumstances.”

“I know,” Theresa said, leading Stephanie through the great gateway into the temple. “I used to love Egypt, but after a while, I started thinking of it as kind of a rival for my mom’s time and affection.”

“You never told me that before,” Stephanie said.

“Well, I always felt kind of selfish feeling that way,” Theresa replied. “I mean, I never wanted to keep her from doing what she loved. I just wished, sometimes, that I could be more important than her work.”

“Stay where you are,” a voice said loudly.

Looking past the massive stone columns of the Grand Colonnade, which thrust upwards into the night sky, they saw a man near the outer wall holding a gun.

“Do you have the scroll?” he asked.

“Yes,” Theresa said. “Just as you asked. Where’s my mother?”

“Place it on the stone in front of you and step back,” the voice said.

“No,” Theresa said, forcefully. “I’ve done what you asked. Now you’re going to do what I ask. I want to see my mother.”

He paused, then turned to the second man, who pulled a woman from behind the column and pushed her forward.

“Mom!” Theresa cried. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Dr. Ruth Matthews said, weakly.

“Now the scroll, Baroness!” the leader said, gruffly.

Theresa stepped forward and carefully placing the ancient papyrus on the stone altar before her.

“Now back up,” the man said, and Theresa and Stephanie obeyed.

The second man pushed Ruth forward. She stumbled, but regained her footing as she walked slowly toward her waiting daughter.

As Ruth passed the stone upon which the papyrus lay, she slowed, staring at it and then at Theresa.

“Run!” she shouted, snatching up the scroll and running toward them.

Confused, both Theresa and Stephanie paused for a moment – until they heard gunfire echo through the temple complex.

“I said RUN!” Ruth repeated, running past them.

The three women ran back toward the front gate, where Stephanie’s rental car awaited, as the dark figures pursued her. Shards of stone flew from one of the ornately carved stone columns as another bullet struck it – just inches away from Theresa’s head.

“Are you crazy?” Theresa yelled as they leapt into the car and the engine roared to life.

More gunfire cracked through the air, and a hail of bullets struck the rear end of the vehicle. Stephanie hit the accelerator hard and the car fishtailed, then straightened as she pointed it back toward Luxor. They were safe … for the moment.

"oh don't worry, you've not lost all your charm." robin tries to make light of the situation with her humor, only imagining the rough day weston could've had for him to need this...glass of bourbon so much. "it's just a rough day for you, and that..." she gestures at the bartender. "that one looks like they just to go home after standing for hours all night. i may or may not be working in a similar area, but standing for so long could be a bitch, so don't take it personally." she raises her glass for him, before taking a long swig of her drink. "you wanna talk about what brought you to this...predicament now?" robin stares at him for a moment. "maybe i can sweet talk them to serve us another until they kick us out of the place so they could go home."

he watched, eyes keen and flitting between the pair, trying to work out in advance if there was any sort of long - standing relationship going on here - or perhaps a subtle bewitching - but nothing sparked in the air and no familiar pet names were exchanged. most likely, the bartender just didn't like weston, which made him bristle and snort like a rankled bull, even as he schlepped over the couple stools to sit beside the helpful blonde, and collect his generously poured bourbon. "i used to be charming," he muttered around the rim of his glass, sounding bitter beyond his years and downing a burning gulp that was warm all the way to his belly. wes immediately felt settled by it; satisfied. he hummed and shook his head, staring at the amber liquid while swirling it within the glass. "i've been having a streak of bad luck. thanks for this." he held out his glass in an offer for a cheers.

Mmmm yes that is a very good trope and yes it's also hard to find. Sometimes it pops up in fanfiction but off hand I can't think of any (I read so many it's hard to remember sometimes and I haven't updated my masterlist in a little while with tropes). Let me see what I got to rec.

My immediate thought was Chicago P.D. 3x01 when the team watches via video while Jay Halstead is beaten and tortured.

Hawaii Five-0 10x22 Steve is forced to watch a beaten and bloodied Danny through a video sent to him.

There's also this scene in Red Notice where the Rock and Ryan Reynolds are tied up and The Rock's character is tortured.

In Iron Man 3 Tony is forced to watch as Pepper is injected with Extremis

Chapter 319: Cutting to the Chase

“Good morning, milady, your highness,” Hassan said, as Theresa and Stephanie walked into the hotel lobby. I trust you both slept well?”

“Fine,” Theresa said, uninterested in small talk. “I assume you have news?”

Hassan shook his head.

“Not as much as you’re looking for, I’m afraid,” he replied. “But I can report some movement.”

“Movement?” Theresa asked. “So you have a lead?”

“I don’t have that information, unfortunately,” Hassan said. “Inspector Valsan said that he would meet us at the dig site and brief us there.”

Theresa frowned. She knew that every minute without a lead made it less likely they would locate her mother.

“How far away is that?” Stephanie asked, stepping in. “Do I need to hire a helicopter to save time?”

“No, your highness,” Hassan replied. “The ministry has already arranged transportation. I have a car waiting outside, and a chopper standing by at the airport. We can be at the dig site in about two hours – I believe it’s some kind of funerary temple a few kilometers north of the Valley of the Kings.”

“Yes,” Theresa said. “Mother thought it was a royal compound used by Ramses III when he visited his tomb while it was under construction.”

“Well then, you know more than I do,” Hassan said. “Hopefully, Inspector Valsan will have additional information for us when we arrive. Excuse me, and I’ll make sure the car is out front.”

As Hassan left, Stephanie looked intently at her best friend and grinned.

“As I recall, you wouldn’t have passed world history without my help,” she said, laughing. “So how do you suddenly remember your mother’s research? You always said archaeology never interested you.”

“It doesn’t, really,” Theresa said. “But when you grow up living with a world-famous archaeologist, some things are bound to rub off.”

She walked toward the door, and Stephanie followed.

“Ladies,” Hassan said, returning. “The car is ready, if you’ll follow me.”
