House Overview Season 4
Of course Jon didn't turn the family house into a classicist temple :) At a first glance, not very much changed. Since Andrew didn't need the top-floor room any more, it could be a nursery again and Fiona and Ysobel could keep the second bedroom. The back-house got linked with a covered passage after all. There are servant- and guestrooms there, which are rarely shown in the story. Alasdair got some privacy, as his room is no longer the passage to the study. The study is now reached by the main staircase - which means that the stairs come up on the other side of it. Heating was modernized with tiled stoves, but the family kept two open fireplaces for gathering round.
Matt also had a proper horse-stable built on the sheep-run lot. This has the advantage that the horses can live on that lot, under the care of Walter McNeil's youngest son.

Do the baby rats ever return to the bilges? And by that do they spend much time with the old man? Are they free to drop in and make themselves at home?
I think it varies between them and over time.
Alfred drops in a lot. God knows there's hardly a spot in the world he hasn't made himself known but I still couldn't quite believe how many statues and memorials. The eagle squadron, the Eisenhower statue, the Reagan statue, the 9/11 memorial garden. Mark Twain, James McNeil Whistler, Harry Selfridge, FDR, Abraham Lincoln. Like goddamn I'm not sure why I was surprised but whoo. So many statues of Yanks paid for by the British.
Anyway: In the 19th century he'd actually spent time in England indulging his need for the latest technology and satiating whatever advances François or Gilbert wouldn't keep him abreast of. Nowadays, especially since the age of flight, he travels a lot and has no shame in rolling up, insulting the food but savoring the whiskey, crashing wherever he likes and drunkenly asking his father's advice. He's very free in how much space he takes up and how much time he feels entitled too. If he's jet lagged he'll just conk out on the old man's spare room and complain it smells like sheep but very much appreciate a night's sleep in a place he once called home.
Matt... He should be very comfortable in that space but he's a dipshit so imposing feels illegal. He kind of knows he can but he's also not willing to test his luck the vast majority of the time. If he's invited he'll show up on time, clean up after himself and promptly leave without causing a fuss. At least the cat's happy he's back to visit lmao. He got permission to pay for a wee fountain in the green park memorial. There was a gate we bought when Victoria locked it and we were still first dominion (Australia was still in the process of confederating.) But yeah he's welcome? Arthur doesn't mind him around if he's not underfoot. But it really was kind of a sign Jan had no idea what Matt's life was like anymore when he asked him to go stay at his dad's in the aftermath of their break up.
Jack lmao he's shameless when he wants some of the old man's attention. I don't think it's all the time, but there are a lot of links there. I swear to God I met so many Australians in England. I tumbled out of a test pit off a corner off a Hadrian's wall fortlet and there were like 6 Australians in every pub in fricken Yorkshire. He will just kind of show up with a very casual but somehow kind of prickly invitation to go to a cultural event of his artists or bands in England and the old fart isn't objecting. It took Arthur a minute to figure out that "Accadacca" meant they were going to go see AC/DC but he wasn't mad about it! Two manic fucks can have a lot of fun. They party quite hard sometimes. Jack was also very responsible for the old man's cooking improving by a metric and imperial fuck tonne. The espresso machine under the cabinet is his baby.
Zee I think is the easiest. She's as independent as Jack but that not quite dead idea that daughters are kind of allowed to be more in and out of the house makes it slightly easier for them. She rolls up and flops on the sofa demanding to be fed and watered. A full fifth of the NZ population lives overseas with Australia and the UK topping the list and if there's things she can't really do in New Zealand or she just doesn't want to live alone she'll just hop over. I feel like she goes in cycles of how independent and revolutionary she's feeling and will just kind of make herself at home if she wants another degree or something similar. She spent time in London without the old man too especially during the peak punk years and they ran into each other at a sex pistols concert. She had a full set of tattoos, an undercut and half a blunt in her system, Arthur had green hair and absolutely ripped on god knows what. She's never seen him so panicked. They stumbled home together having a hoot and throwing beer bottles at cops. Grade a hooligans, those two.

sorry my ancient relic pepsi bottle was cursed ANYWAYS what do u think of chasing amy
insightful thank u. unc 💜
i think it definitely couldve been worse but DEFINITELY couldve been better
like its at a mid point for me that there were some pretty good things (joey lauren adams' performance [actually just alyssa herself i love her], hooper x, matt damon cameo, gay kiss!) but there were a lot of. bad things that made me cringe throughout the whole movie (holdens views on lgbtq at the start and him falling out of understanding and redemption era 😭, holden mcneil just as a whole, holden mcneil goatee, holden mcneil, the ending......bro used her likeness and name without ??? consent??? like she straight did NOT know about this and also its probably crazy looking to average readers lawl...also banky and holden falling out im gonna tear at the walls? those are two pathetic assholes meant for each other)
not my favorite of askewniverse so far but not my least favorite either lawl
overall just so many things i think couldve been done . DIFFERENTLY? to make it better but honestly i just really like kevin smith 90s humor-heavy so seeing this one get all serious (and by "serious" i mean them handling actual conflicts and big topics of conversation like identity.....and also "serious" being holden whining like a little bitch boy.....i still want him though) was like a Change Alright and just made me kind of mad to see some of it portrayed the way it was
(and/or RECIEVED by characters like you know who im going to say already. holden mcneil)
wish they knew the word bisexual and wish they knew maturing and growing up exists ok #savealyssajones2024 thank you anon

Johnny Mack Brown and Mary Pickford in Coquette (Sam Taylor, 1929)
Cast: Mary Pickford, Johnny Mack Brown, Matt Moore, John St. Polis, William Janney, Henry Kolker, George Irving, Louise Beavers. Screenplay: John Grey, Allen McNeil, Sam Taylor, based on a play by George Abbott and Ann Preston Bridgers. Cinematography: Karl Struss. Art direction: William Cameron Menzies. Film editing: Barbara McLean.
Is Mary Pickford's performance in Coquette the worst ever to win a best actress Oscar? It's certainly a bad performance, full of cute mannerisms and telegraphed emotions, along with a terrible attempt at a Southern accent. At 37, Pickford was about 20 years too old to play the flirtatious young Norma Besant, a fact that becomes especially clear when she sits on the lap of Louise Beavers, who plays her "mammy," the black servant who raised her; Beavers was ten years younger than Pickford. But this was Pickford's first talkie after 20 years in silent films in which she become the movies' first superstar, and unlike some silent stars, she demonstrates a perfectly fine speaking voice. Still, after three more features that did only passable box office, she took the hint and retired. The main problem with Coquette is not Pickford but the creakiness of the vehicle, which had been a stage hit for Helen Hayes. The melodrama, about a flirtatious girl whose carelessness brings about disaster for both the man she loves (Johnny Mack Brown) and her father (John St. Polis) who objects to their love, is stagebound, largely because of the limitations of early sound technology, but also because screenwriter-director Sam Taylor had not made a sound film before. Pickford appears game throughout, and she's certainly a better actor than Brown or St. Polis, not to mention the callow William Janney, who plays Pickford's younger brother. (In one scene Janney wears one of the most eye-offending outfits ever seen on-screen: a plaid sweater tucked into deep-pleated striped pants. My retinas have yet to recover.) There were no official Oscar nominations that year, but Academy records show that Ruth Chatterton in Madame X (Lionel Barrymore), Betty Compson in The Barker (George Fitzmaurice), Jeanne Eagels in The Letter (Jean de Limur), Corinne Griffith in The Divine Lady (Frank Lloyd), and Bessie Love in The Broadway Melody (Harry Beaumont) were also under consideration for the award. I've been unable to see the performances by Chatterton and Compson, but my pick so far would have been Eagels.

Twins Avoid Sweep As Bats Come Alive!
Twins 8 Mets 3 W-Lopez (10-7) L-Severino (7-4)
The Minnesota Twins have had a tough time in Queens with two losses to the Mets. The series finale was this afternoon on a warm day at Citi Field. The Twins struck in the second when Byron Buxton smacked a Luis Severino fastball out to left-center for a solo homer. The Mets countered in the bottom of the second when Jeff McNeil dumped a single to shallow left and Mark Vientos knocked a Pablo Lopez fastball out to right for a two-run homer. This put the Mets up 2-1 after two innings of play. The Twins answered in the third as Austin Martin led-off with a single then stole second base. Trevor Larnach singled him home to tie the game at two. Larnach stole second base and Max Kepler plated him with a base hit to right. Royce Lewis continued the chain with a run-scoring double and Matt Wallner cushed a Luis Severino change-up out to right for a two-run blast. This capped off a six-run third for the Twins, who retook the lead. The Twins added on in the fifth as Matt Wallner lined a one-out double to left. Carlos Santana doubled him home and the Twins lead grew to five. Pablo Lopez ran with it through six solid innings and the Twins kept adding on in the eighth. Byron Buxton was hit in the back by a pitch and Carlos Santana singled to right. Ryan Jeffers plated a run with a fielder's choice and the Twins extended their lead to six. Cole Sands threw a 1-2-3 seventh, Randy Dobnak put up a zero in the eighth, and Jhoan Duran got into some trouble in the ninth. Luis Torrens lined a one-out single to right and Jose Iglesias doulbed. Francisco Alvarez hit an RBI groundout and Tyrone Taylor struck out end the game. The Twins picked up the win to close out the road trip today.
-Final Thoughts- Pablo Lopez continues to pitch well. He went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Cole Sands had a perfect seventh, Randy Dobnak had a scoreless eighth in his return, and Jhoan Duran gave up a run in the ninth. Matt Wallner and Carlos Santana led the way with two hits each. The Twins hit 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The Twins will return home for an off day then host the White Sox this weekend. Davis Martin will face Joe Ryan on Friday night.

Blood, Guts, and Gore oh My!’s “The Self Titled album”
Band: Blood, Guts, and Gore, Oh My!
Album: the Self Titled Album
Run time: 60:12
Release date: 10/29/88
Single: Sweet Nothing
Genre: Punk, Goth
Inspiration: The Cramps
Matt Hodeck was very angered by his former band mate, Harry More’s actions at a concert that they had performed at, so in a fit of rage, he left the very short lived death rocker band. After meeting Johnnie Blyth at a bar in 1987, he decided to form a new band alongside him, with the help of former high school classmate, Gene Ewan McNeil and mutual friend David Grayson.
The first album they recorded was simply titled “The Self titled album” The Album had many elements of punk and goth music, borrowing sounds from the Cramps and The Cure. It was a very politically charged album, with “Makeup boy” being about how society’s maltreatment of lgbtq+ people makes them look more foolish than they try to make gay people look. “Spider Web” being a very open criticism of president Ronald Regan.
The most upbeat song on the album was “Sweet Nothing” many spectate that the song is about Hodocks band mate Grayson. The lyrics are often seen as a metaphor for how Graysons girlfriend at the time, Vicki Stringer, was keeping them from actually pursuing a romantic relationship, as the two, who were roommates during the album’s recording, could often be seen snuggling and holding hands while at concerts. It was later revealed in 2008 that the two were in a romantic relationship since 1990.
The album found success in the underground music scene, especially with within the goth community. It was praised for its head on approach to political issues, and Hodock was praised for his song writing abilities. In 2019, the album was re-recorded on its 30th anniversary, with five added songs.

I'm finally making that Excel-sheet for character ageing, and the McNeils are more of a mess than I thought. This post was the first time we saw Eliza, the current maid of all work at the McCarric house. The girl with dark braids is now called Anne and the redhead Morna. Also we haven't seen Maggie (dark ponytail) since she was about 9. I might bring back one or two of the girls, but not all three. They'd all be married now anyway.
The current two stableboys are the sons of Walter's oldest son Jamie (the boy who climbed up the ladder). He's now in his 40s. We haven't seen him since, but he's doing well. Walter and Owen are now grandfathers, about Ysobel's and Fiona's age. But they still help out on the farm.
Anyway, the stableboy/jockey who gets slightly more screentime is Michael McNeil. His brother Douglas was seen in one post driving Matt and Alasdair home from town.
(several Sundays later)
Shiena: Off you go, behave your best, and don’t forget to ask Mrs McCarric what “unequivocal” means!
