Chittorgarh Fort: Beauty of Rajputanas
presents royalty and is known for the famous Johar committed by Rani Padmini. The fort is in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The fort is made of red stones, and the entire fort looks like a Big Fish. The painted walls of the fort depict the importance of Rajput cultures and tradition.
The Architecture of Chittorgarh Fort
There are many temples, lakes, Columns, and there are approximately seven gates. In ancient times, around 1 00,000 people lived in this fort, but now only 25,000 people reside. Kumbh Mahal (Kumbh Palace) is the oldest Palace of the Chittorgarh fort. This heritage site has its position near Vijay Column (Stambh). This column shows the beauty of the Rajputana culture. The fort has nine floors, and every floor has sculptures of (Hindu Gods and Goddesses). Kirti Column (Stambh) also displays the importance of Rajput traditions with having six floors in it. The tourists are prohibited to visit the Kirti Column.
How To Reach?
The place has good connectivity through bus and rail from all the states’ major cities. Udaipur airport is the nearest airport, which is around 56 miles away from it. The fort is 70 kilometers from the airport, which is the nearest destination point towards the fort.
Main Attraction sites of Chittorgarh Fort
Next is Fateh Prakash Palace and Museum. Earlier, it was a palace only. But now, it has turned into a museum. Here, you can see things, paintings, and the precious sculptures of kings and queens of that time. Another palace named Padmini Palace (Padmavati Palace) is present at the center of a lake into the fort. It is a double-floor building. The palace also goes by the name of Janana Palace. Beside Janana Palace, there is another palace Mardana Palace for the men. Allaudin Khilji saw Rani Padmavati’s shadow from the Mardana Palace and attacked Chittorgarh Palace to win the Queen.
Chittorgarh Fort’s Connections with Bollywood
The famous Bollywood movie “Padmavat” tells the real story behind it. While the film released in theaters, people went to the Mardana Palace and destroyed it from inside. They believed that Allaudin Khilji saw Rani Padmavati from there. So, the palace must be eradicated.

From a tourist’s point of view
The government has banned visiting the Mardana Palace. Apart from these, there are many places to visit in the fort. Among such places are Gaumukh Reservoir, Meera Temple, Kalka Mata Temple, and the Jain Temple. If you are fascinated by shopping, then this place is full of Rajasthani clothes and things for both men and women. You can also enjoy the Light and Sound show, which tells you the entire history of Chittorgarh Palace in languages Hindi and English. You have to buy the tickets to visit the light and sound show separately.
The sandy areas mark the Rajputana dynasty, which ruled over it for a long time. The rural area doesn’t have many hotels nearby to stay. But the restaurants are filling gaps with their exciting Rajasthani snacks. At the entrance of the fort, you can hire a tourist guide to fill yourself with a bunch of true knowledge about the fort.

Modhera lies just over 100km NW from Ahmedabad, but is less than an hour away from the Rani Ki Vav step-well at Patan, so you can combine the two easily in day from the city. Situated on the banks of Pushpavati River, the Sun Temple at Modhera is one of the few shrines in India dedicated to the Sun God, the other most notable one being at Konark. The temple was built in 1026 C.E. by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty, the construction is aligned so that the first rays of the Sun cast on the image of Lord Surya. The Temple was partially destroyed by Mahmud Ghazni, but so much remains that you can easily imagine what the complex would have once looked like. Upon entering the site you first come to a stepped tank known as Surya Kund. In the earlier times, this 100sq meter rectangular tank was used to store pure water, with devotees halting here for ceremonial ablutions before moving towards the temple. At least 100 shrines mark the steps of this tank, dedicated to Ganesha, Shiva, Sheetala Mata and many others. In front of this tank, a huge torana (archway) leads to the Sabha Mandap. Standing proud in front of the tank, the Sabha Mandap was an assembly hall where religious gatherings and conferences are conducted. This hall is open from all four sides and has 52 delicately carved pillars. The intricate carvings depict scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and scenes from the life of Lord Krishna. Beyond the Sabha Mandap lies the Guda Mandap. This is where the idol of the sun god once resided that would receive the suns rays at the equinoxes, until it was plundered by Mahmud Ghazni. #swiggywala #localguides @googlemaps #suntemple #stepwell #stepwellsofindia #modhera #suntemplemodhera #gujarati #incredibleindia #gujarat #templearchitecture #templesofindia #ancientindia #gujarattourism #incredibletemples #thegenuineindia #worldhistoricalmonuments https://www.instagram.com/p/CckJLy4vVX9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Chittorgarh Sightseeing Spots
Victory column
The Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory) or Jaya Stambha, which is said to be the symbol of Chittor and is an expression of victory in particular, was commemorated by Rana Kumbha between 1458 and 1468 in memory of his victory over Mahmud Shah I Khalji, Sultan of Malwa. Was made 170 A.D. Carved to the 8th floor), from where there is a good view of the plains and the new city of Chittor. The dome, which was later added, was damaged by lightning and repaired during the 19th century. The stamba is now illuminated during the evening and gives a beautiful view of Chittor from above.
Kirti Pillar
The Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame) is a 22-meter-high (72 ft) tower, built on top of 15 feet (4.6 meters) at the base of 30 feet (9.1 meters); It is ornamented on the outside with Jain sculptures and is older (probably 12th century) and smaller than the Vijay Tower. Built by Bagherwal Jain businessman Jijaji Rathore, it is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara (revered Jain teacher) Adinath. In the lowest floor of the tower, the figures of various Tirthankaras of the Jain Panth are seen, which were specially made to make them. These are the Digambara memorials. A narrow staircase consisting of 54 steps leads from six storeys to the top. The top pavilion added in the 15th century has 12 pillars.
Rana Kumbha Palace
At the entrance near the Vijaya Stambha, is the palace of Rana Kumbha (in ruins), the oldest monument. The palace contained elephant and horse stables and a temple of Lord Shiva. Maharana Udai Singh, the founder of Udaipur was born here; Popular folk lore related to her birth is her maid Panna Dai. Panna Dhaya saved her son by substituting him as a replacement, resulting in his son Banbir being killed. The prince was spread far and wide in a fruit basket. The palace is made of plastered stone. The notable feature of the palace is its magnificent range of canopied balconies. Entrance to the palace is through the Suraj Pol which leads into a courtyard. Queen Meera, the famous poet-saint, also lived in this palace. It is also the palace where Rani Padmini is said to have worked as a jauhar along with several other women for funeral pyre in one of the underground cellars. Nine Lakh Bandar (literally: Nine Lakh Treasury) building, the royal treasury of Chittor was also located nearby. Now, there is a museum and archeology office across the palace. The Singa Chari temple is also nearby.
Fateh Prakash Palace
Near Rana Khumba Mahal, built by Rana Fateh Singh, Pragan houses a modern house and a small museum. A school for local children (around 5,000 villagers live within the fort) is also nearby.
Gaumukh Reservoir
A spring feeds the tank from the mouth of a carved cow into the rock. This pool was the main source of water in the fort during many sieges.
Padmini's Palace
Padmini's palace or Queen Padmini's palace is a white building and a three-story structure (19th century reconstruction of the original). It is located in the southern part of the fort. Chhatris (pavilions) built water mounds around the roofs of the palace and the Taj. This style of palace became the precursor to other palaces built in the state with the concept of Jal Mahal (water-surrounded palace). According to legends, it is in this palace where Alauddin was allowed to see the mirror image of Rani Padmini, the wife of Maharana Ratan Singh. It is widely believed that this glimpse of Padmini's beauty surrounded him and convinced him to destroy Chittor to keep it with him. Maharana Ratan Singh was killed and Rani Padmini allegedly committed jauhar. The beauty of Rani Padmini has been compared to that of Cleopatra and her life story is an eternal tale of the history of Chittor. The bronze gate for this pavilion was removed and taken to Agra by Akbar. A visit to chittorgarh is incomplete if you haven't seen Padmini's palace ! come with JCR CAB & book a taxi to see Padmini's palace .
Padmini's fictional story was inspired by Padmavat, a poem written in 1540 by Malik Muhammad Amasi.
Other scenic spots
Close to the Vijay Stambh is the Meera Mandir, or Meerabai Temple. Rana Khumba built it in the ornate Indo-Aryan architectural style. It is associated with the mystic saint-poet Mirabai, who was a devotee of Lord Krishna and devoted his entire life to her worship. He composed and sang a lyrical hymn called Meera Bhajan. There is a popular legend associated with her that with the blessings of Krishna, she survived after consuming the poison sent by her evil brother-in-law. The larger temple in the same complex is the Kumbh Shyam Temple (Varaha Temple). The shikhara of the temple is pyramidal in shape. A picture praying Meerabai before Krishna is now installed in the temple.
Across the palace of Padmini is the Kalika Mata temple. Originally, an 8th century Sun Temple dedicated to Surya (Surya Dev) was destroyed in the 14th century. It was rebuilt as the Kali temple.
Another temple on the west side of the fort is the Goddess Tulja Bhavani Temple which is built to worship Goddess Tulja Bhavani is considered sacred. Tope Khana (Cannon Foundry) is located in a courtyard next to this temple, where some old cannons are still seen.

He'd reached Kozhikode (Calicut, Kerala) in 1498. After this, many Europeans began coming to India for trading. They left their offices and forts in various parts of India. The British East India Company became a Significant force in India. The organization's troops led by Robert Clive defeated the rulers of Bengal in 1757. This battle became famous since the Battle of Plassey. That was the start of British rule, known as the British Raj, in India. In 1764, the Battle of Buxar was obtained by the British forces. After this, the British got control over Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. The Parliament of the United Kingdom passed many laws to help the British East India Company. The Regulating Act of 1773, the India Act of 1784, along with the Charter Act of 1813 were designed to help exchange with India. Ahead of the First War of Independence (1857), Indians in different parts of India had revolted from the British. Many such of the revolts and armed struggles had taken place in this Some examples include: Revolts by many local rulers of Tamil people in southern India like Dheeran Chinnamalai, Veerapandiya Kattabomman. . .etc. In 1825 at Karnataka knitter Rani Channamma along with her lieutenant, Sangolli Rayanna revolted against British Rule. A revolt at 1787 took place in Goa against the rule of Portugal. The history telephone this revolt since the Conspiracy of this Pintos. A rebellion by tribes of Jharkhand in India. Historians call this Santal Rebellion Rebellion under the direction of Titumir in Bengal. India's First War of Independence was a Significant occasion in the history of contemporary India. The Parliament of the United Kingdom withdrew the best of the British East India Company to rule India in November 1858. The United Kingdom began ruling India right through its representative known as the Viceroy of India. It made India a part of the British Empire. They assured"the Princes, Chiefs, and People of India," equal treatment under the British law. The British delivered Bahadur Shah II, the last Mughal Emperor, out of India, and kept him in Rangoon (now called Yangon at Burmese), Burma where he died in 1862. The Mughal dynasty, which had ruled India for about four hundred decades, ended with his passing. The British also took many actions to employ Indian higher castes and rulers into the government. They ceased taking the lands of the rest of the princes and rulers of India. They ceased interference in religious matters. They began employing Indians from the civil services but at reduced levels. They increased the number of British troops and allowed only British soldiers to handle artillery. The rulers of the British Raj made a new law to regulate India, called the Government of India Act 1935. This law targeted at the constitutional process to regulate India. It had three big goals: to establish a federal system with many provinces, to give self-ruling position (autonomy) into the provinces, and also to provide the Muslim minority protection through providing them with some different electorates. In such separate electorates, just Muslims could stand for elections. In February 1937, elections took place for the provincial assemblies. The members of the Indian National Congress won in five provinces and held the top position in two more provinces. The Muslim League's operation in the election was not good. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (also known as Mahatma Gandhi) had received his education in London. He had been a barrister (attorney ). In 1893, he went to South Africa. After Gandhi was thrown off a train since he was a coloured man sitting in a seat that was first-class, he took that emotion and utilized it to begin to resist the injustices that many people of colour faced at the time. He became successful and the authorities of South Africa eliminated most of these rules and restrictions. Gandhi led the Salt March, an act of protest. When Gandhi returned to India in 1915, few people understood him. Under the leadership of Gandhi, Indians began to use a different method to get freedom during the upcoming few decades. On 8th August 1942, the leaders of the Indian National Congress Party fulfilled in Bombay (Mumbai). The leaders adopted a policy to force the British out of India. Gandhi's motto"Do or Die" became a national slogan, along with the movement became the Quit India Movement. At the start of the Second World War, the Indian National Congress Party had supported the British, but they'd demanded freedom for India following the war. The British didn't agree with this suggestion. On 14th July 1942, the Indian National Congress Party passed a resolution demanding complete independence from the British rule. But this did not have the support of some other political parties. Gandhi had requested the people to keep the Quit India Movement as a peaceful movement. Many people started the movement in several places in India. But in a few places, the movements turned violent. Gandhi refused to eat until the violence ceased. He was successful in stopping the violence. The British action was very quick. They arrested over 100,000 people. They levied fines on many people. They dropped bombs on the people who demonstrated against the British Raj. The British arrested all of the leaders of the Congress Party. Gandhi's wife, Kasturba Gandhi, died during detention, in addition to his secretary Mahadev Desai. Gandhi's health had become quite bad. In 1944, the British set him free fearing that Gandhi's death might bring about a very large protest by Indians. Gandhi continued to oppose both the British and demanded that all other leaders be set free. The Second World War had reduced the economic, political, and military strength of the British Empire. They were also aware that following the war Indians would start a bigger movement for independence. The disposition of the British people and the British Army had changed. Following the Second World War, most of these were no longer willing to support the British ruling class in India. That position was now clear to the leaders of the United Kingdom. By early 1946, those leaders set free all the political prisoners held in India and started independence talks with the Indian National Congress Party. On the 14th of August 1947, Pakistan gained independence and a day later on the 15th of August India gained its independence as well (Our independence day). Gandhi with Lord and Lady Mountbatten, 1947: On midnight of 15th August 1947, Britain handed India its formal political Independence. A brief time then, Gandhi, that was aging and sick, died from a bullet fired by a Hindu extremist named Nathuram Godse. The national direction was subsequently passed to his main lieutenant, Jawaharlal Nehru. On 3rd June 1947, the Viceroy Lord Mountbatten announced partition of India into two states: the union of India, and an Islamic Pakistan. In this partition, many people died while others had been separated from their own families. On 26th January 1950, India adopted its constitution, the longest constitution in the entire world.
