When a priest hangs himself in a cemetery, he opens the gates of hell in the mysterious New England town of Dunwich. At the same moment, psychic Mary Woodhouse (Catriona MacColl) enters a trance and witnesses the cosmic events unfold, causing her to seemingly die of fright. After being buried alive, she is rescued by skeptical reporter Peter Bell (Christopher George) who joins her on the journey toward Dunwich to help close the gates of hell before evil is unleashed upon the world! Will they be able to close the gates in time or will the souls of Dunwich be forever stuck in the twilight void?

Screamers (aka The Island of the Fishmen, aka L'isola degli uomini pesce, aka Something Waits in the Dark) is Bill’s pick and he is surprised by how much he likes it. He describes it as a Jules Verne/Edgar Rice Burroughs, old-fashioned adventure with some wildly inappropriate gore tacked onto the beginning. Chad’s also a sucker for adventure-type stories and likens Screamers to Doc Savage with monsters or maybe Dr. Moreau meets the Creature. Either way, he calls it a fun watch. Screamers had Crystal at “fog machines,” but she is also impressed with the sets. Like Bill, she likes it a lot more than she thought she would. Jeff favors the original, Italian version but loves the effects in the footage shot for the U.S. release. And the Fishmen are way cool, so say they all.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Crystal, will be Warlock (1989) with Julian Sands, Lori Singer, and Richard E. Grant. And Julian Sands is almost on par with a good fog machine. You won’t want to miss that one!

About Cauldron Films….
Along with ABRAKADABRA and AMERICAN RICKSHAW, Cauldron plans to release several films on Blu-ray this year, including many that have never had a proper home video release in the US, some of which have only ever been released on VHS if at all! Cauldron has a full slate of 70s and 80s Cult Films in the works using the best available materials to showcase films from Spaghetti Westerns, Giallo, Horror, Action, and more, ALL with the collector in mind!
ABRAKADABRA….
Thirty-Five years after his father is tragically killed during a magic trick gone wrong, Lorenzo’s own magic act is suddenly derailed by a series of gruesome magic themed murders. Struggling to prove his innocence, he begins to unravel the mystery that leads him through an intricate, bloody trail all the way back to his father’s demise.
Filled with a pulsing Goblin-esque soundtrack, 70’s atmosphere and all the earmarks of a classic Giallo, ABRAKADABRA at once pays homage to the bloody films of Dario Argento and Sergio Martino, while firmly taking its own place in the genre alongside its companion films in the Onetti Brothers’s Giallo Trilogy: FRANCESCA and SONNO PROFONDO

AMERICAN RICKSHAW...
The way that is the way is not the ordinary way...
After a stripper tricks him into filming a sex tape, Scott Edwards (Olympic Gold Medalist Mitch Gaylord), a Miami rickshaw runner, becomes embroiled in the murder of an evangelist’s son when he inadvertently takes the wrong video tape. With the help of the stripper and an Asian witch, Edwards sets out to clear his name while avoiding the assassin dead set on retrieving the video tape.
Directed by Italian genre legend Sergio Martino (All the Colors of the Dark) and Written by Sauro Scavolini (A Man Called Blade) with a story by Roberto Leone (Santa Sangre) this late 80’s Miami-lensed Action/Horror hybrid has only ever been available on VHS in the US in a muddy full screen presentation. Featuring all of the action, nudity and bizarre practical effects you can handle, Cauldron Films is proud to present American Rickshaw (aka American Tiger / American risciò), in all of its sun drenched glory, with a brand new 2k scan sourced from the original camera negative as their inaugural release!
Starring Mitchell Gaylord, Daniel Greene (Elvira Mistress of the Dark, Me, Myself and Irene, Hands of Steel), Victoria Prouty, and Donald Pleasance (Halloween, Freakmaker)
Music by Luciano Michelini (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Silent Action, Screamers)
Directed by Sergio Martino (Torso, The Scorpion with Two Tails)
