Lifting Restrictions, Covid-19

Restrictions lifted in the UK, doesn’t mean Covid-19 is done. It is because the UK government have lifted restrictions that we need to keep those in place.

It has become even more important, because we’re not safe. Freedom of movement can only work if we continue to keep ourselves safe. It is also because I am home that I couldn’t be surer. But it is not enough for me to be sure, it needs to bring a different thinking from each of us, to understand that Covid-19 needs to take precedent.

With or without the Covid-19 vaccine you are still at risk of catching Covid-19. The vaccine, which was hailed the panacea vaccine, the vaccine that was set to give us our life back, isn’t allowing us to go that far. Whether you are vaccinated or not, you still can’t get back into your life, because you can still catch Covid-19.

When the government first talked about the vaccine at the beginning of roll-out, we were assured safe passage. It turns out, it’s not like that at all.

Covid-19, Masking Up

Whilst the world continues to vaccinate against Covid-19, it is important restrictions stay in place, because whilst the vaccine goes some way to protect, we can still catch Covid, we can still pass it on and still get Long-Covid.

Being double-jabbed, doesn’t mean life is back to normal, nor does it mean we can drop our guard. Protection lasts up to 6 months (Source: https://www.pfizer.com) and there is no official data for people who are immunocompromised, but it could mean they are protected for around 4 months.

It is because Covid-19 is here to stay that we need to be mindful about how we go about our lives, whether we have taken the vaccine or not. Whatever happens, it is important to remain vigilant. No one is safe and physical barriers like mask wearing and social distancing protect.

In September, children head back to school. We can’t assume children will be safe. Head teachers and teaching staff have a mammoth task ahead of them to mask sure children in their care are safe. The same goes for universities that are due back in October.

It is because the UK government have lifted restrictions that it is important to continue to mask up in shops and social distance in public spaces. When anything is used as a bargaining political tool, it is wrong.
