Tips for Renting a Luxury Wedding Car
Book in Advance: Luxury cars are in high demand, especially during wedding season. To secure the car of your dreams, it’s important to book well in advance.
Consider Your Theme: Match the car to your wedding theme. A vintage car might be perfect for a classic wedding, while a sleek sports car could be the ideal choice for a modern celebration.
Check the Details: Before finalizing your booking, make sure to review the rental terms, including mileage limits, insurance, and any additional fees. Ensure that the car is in pristine condition and meets your expectations.
Plan for Photos: Allocate time in your schedule for photos with the car. Whether it’s at the venue, during the drive, or after the ceremony, a luxury car adds a stunning element to your wedding photos.
Discuss Decorations: Many rental services offer car decoration as part of their package. Work with them to ensure the decorations align with your wedding theme, whether it’s floral arrangements, ribbons, or custom signage.
Chauffeur Services: If the rental includes a chauffeur, confirm the details of the service, including their attire, route, and arrival times. A professional chauffeur adds to the luxury experience, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
Where to Rent Luxury Wedding Cars
Local Rental Agencies: Many car rental companies offer luxury vehicles specifically for weddings. Look for agencies with a good reputation and a wide selection of cars.
Specialized Wedding Car Rentals: Some companies specialize in wedding car rentals and offer packages that include decorations and chauffeur services. These companies often provide a more tailored experience.
Online Platforms: Websites like Turo or local luxury car rental sites allow you to browse and book high-end cars directly from the platform. These can be convenient options, especially if you’re looking for something unique.
Conclusion
A luxury car is more than just transportation on your wedding day—it’s a statement of style, elegance, and sophistication. Whether you choose a classic Rolls-Royce or a modern Mercedes, the right car can enhance the overall experience of your big day, making it even more memorable. So, take your pick, book your dream car, and get ready to ride in style as you begin the journey of a lifetime.

NHL Bitty Part XI - Birthday
Jack has been looking forward to Eric’s birthday for months, but between storms and politicians, Jack isn’t getting to Seattle anytime soon.
Alicia has a backup plan.
NHL!Bitty Masterpost
It’s a disaster. It’s a tragedy. It’s the absolute last thing in the world Jack expected to be dealing with today of all days. Months of meticulous planning and Jack’s stuck in an airport lounge with his mother watching Air Force One ground every flight out of Boston AFTER a forced weather grounding.
“It’s been six hours. I’m going to miss his birthday,” Jack relents, pushing an almond around his plate with a coffee stirrer. “I should have flown out last night, I could have slept on the plane.”
Jack looks across the small aisle to see his mother frowning at him.
“How upset do you think he’ll be?”
“Honestly? Probably not as upset as you are. You’ll miss his birthday by a few hours, and that’ll be disappointing, but you’ll be there tomorrow,” Alicia soothes, nails clicking as she types with one hand and pinches a credit card in the other. “You know how many times your father missed my birthday? Not that I didn’t return the favor plenty of times -- ” Her phone buzzes and she holds up an apologetic finger. “One moment, Darling -- Hello? Yes, I am, thank you for asking.”
Jack tunes out his mother and rolls his neck to watch the empty tarmac as he remembers the countless birthdays, holidays, and family events missed due to shooting schedules and playoff games. In fact, missing milestones was a Zimmermann family tradition as beloved as Canada Day fireworks; fireworks that Jack often missed thanks to summer training camps.
However, the memory does nothing to absolve Jack of his guilt. He’s had to fight for every moment he shares with Bitty, big and small, and he had plans. His carry on is stuffed to bursting with small gifts he’s been hoarding for weeks: rainbow candies from their favorite sweet shop in Montreal, coffee beans from Annie’s, a VIP enamel pin from Beyoncé’s Formation Tour, a pair of Falconers sweatpants with ‘Zimmermann’ printed on the seat. Well, that last one may have been more for Jack than the others, but still.
The big gift was supposed to be Jack himself; now he just has a delayed flight and a Samsonite filled with knick-knacks. He’s a terrible boyfriend.
His mother snaps her fingers at him and waves, phone still pressed against her ear, whispering, “Jack, what’s Eric’s favorite color?”
“Red,” Jack sighs, throwing his legs wide and sliding down the armchair slightly.
She doesn’t question his hesitation, but does quirk a brow at his posture, and repeats ‘red’ to whoever she’s talking to. He tries to ask what she’s doing but she waves a hand to shush him. “Of course I’ll email the delivery address in a moment. Thank you again.”
“What are you doing?” Jack asks after she slides her phone back into her purse.
“I learned a few tricks from your father, namely when you miss something important, go big or go home. And since you can’t go home,” she flips her tablet around to show Jack what she’s been working on, “you’re going to go big.”
Jack’s focus is pulled immediately. “You don't think it's too much? I’ve never spent that much on a gift before.”
“Well, in fairness, I’m the one who bought it, you’re just taking the credit. Now, what do you want the dealership to print on the card?”
Eric pops out of the elevator expecting to see a large bouquet at the front desk, Jack’s usual ‘sorry I can’t make it’ gift, but there’s nothing and it stops him short.
He’d known Jack wasn’t going to make it in time for dinner, they’d discussed it and Jack had apologized at length for flight delays far beyond his control, but Eric had rallied knowing he’d see Jack and Alicia tomorrow.
Immediately, tears are burning behind his eyes and it’s so stupid that this is what would get him: an innocent delivery notification that would lift his hopes and dash them in the just span of an elevator ride.
“Oh, hey, Eric, this came for you,” Barry says cheerfully when he notices Eric standing in the lobby trying not to cry. He pulls a thick black envelope from behind the counter and something like hope flutters in Eric’s chest.
Please be from Jack.
He opens the weighted packet and slides out a stack of papers, with a note on top that reads:
B,
The president ruined your birthday. Hope this makes up for it.
Love, JZ AZ BZ
(p.s. maybe not as great as Betsy 2.0, but we hope you like it)
Eric up-ends the envelope, dumping the remaining contents onto the counter, and two glossy black keyfobs roll out. It isn’t. It can’t be. Jack wouldn’t do something like this, he loves grand gestures but --
“They dropped it out front,” Barry offers helpfully, failing to school the grin from his face. “I figured you’d want to move it yourself.”
Eric forgets he’s in sandals and compression shorts and a threadbare Samwell tank, sprinting through the doors to find a dark red Mustang parked in the loading zone with an oversized red bow resting haphazardly on the hood.
He fumbles with the fob and hits the lock button twice -- one last check to make sure it’s not some elaborate joke -- and when the lights flash Eric doesn’t quite squeal, but it’s close enough he startles a woman walking her dog.
‘Way better than flowers!’ he texts Jack, before remembering his boyfriend is still grounded in Boston and just calls outright.
“It’s him,” Jack says when his phone starts buzzing with notifications. “You think they delivered it already?”
“Oh, I know they did,” Alicia smiles and lets her finger hover over the answer button, “he posted a photo on Twitter five minutes ago.”
“What if it isn’t enough? I know he likes the new Jaguar, and he was telling me about Morin’s Maserati last month.” Jack rests his head on his folded arms, finally beginning to feel that that third whiskey sour.
“So next year you buy him a Quattroporte,” she chides. “You have to give yourself room or it’s all meaningless. You start domestic, then you graduate to foreign.”
Alicia freezes. “Oh, my God, I just realized my mother was talking about men not cars.”
Jack snorts into his soda and the buzzing stops only to be replaced by a low chime - Jack’s ringtone for Bitty.
“Maman you answer it I don't want him to be mad.”
“He won’t be mad.”
“You don’t know,” Jack lifts his head from the table and slides his phone over, breathing deeply before tapping the answer button, then the speaker button at his mother’s prompting.
“Happy birthday, Bits!”
“Jack Laurent Zimmermann you are the most thoughtful, generous, amazingly wonderful human being to have walked the earth --”
Alicia gives him a cheeky wink. ‘Told you,’ she mouths.

Beauty can be reflected in a jewel, a painting or a landscape. Elegance, on the other hand, is not only confined to a glance.  Elegance can be found in a movement, in an expression or in conversation. Simply put, elegance is beauty in motion, the premise for design and vision that encapsulates the Maserati brand.
Implementing its plans this month for the electrification of its range, they also plan to enhance their signature by developing a sound that will characterise the electric powered vehicle propulson.  The new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be the brand’s first cars to adopt 100% electric solutions and will be built at the Turin production hub.
The 105 year history of Maserati in numbers:
The Maserati brothers were passionate about mechanical engineering and loved speed, quite happy to get behind the wheel of a racing car themselves, despite their many technical and commercial commitments.  Another brother, Mario, contributed by creating the famous Trident logo (inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in the centre of Bologna) and their brother Bindo joined Officine Maserati in 1932, after Alfieri’s death.
105 years in operation, 80 of them at the Modena plant
1914: “Alfieri Maserati” founded on 1 December
1926: production of the Tipo 26, the first car to bear the Trident Brand
1939: Maserati moves to Modena
2001: return to the US. Key market for Maserati
2013: Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) in Grugliasco (TO) was opened on January 30
2016: car number 100,000 is built at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) at Grugliasco (TO)
2016: start of production of Maserati Levante at Mirafiori (TO)
2019: the 100,000th Ghibli is produced at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) at Grugliasco (TO)
The Royale Series: A salute to the past
Tumblr media
Maserati paid tribute to its heritage with the launch of a special series bearing the same name of their 1986 Royale version of the 3rd generation Quattroporte.  It’s available in two unique blue and green colours: Blu Royale and Verde Royale. To complete the elegant exterior look, the Levante Royale features 21” Anteo Staggered Anthracite rims and Titanium Anthracite rims on Ghibli and Quattroporte, all bespoke for the series, and all with silver brake calipers.
Tumblr media
The Royale interiors, based on the GranLusso trim were born of old-world Italian traditions and today’s innovative technology.  It was ingeniously fashioned using thin strips of Nappa leather to create an ultra-luxurious “fabric” that is lightweight, soft and durable.  High Gloss inserts (Metal Net for the Levante, Ebony for the Ghibli and Black Piano for the Quattroporte) and a distinctive “One of 100” plate complete the interior look, which also features the Bowers&Wilkins Sound System, electric sunroof and privacy glass.
Tumblr media
The Royale Special Series comes with extensive equipment, thanks to the Cold Weather, Premium and Drving Assistance Plus Packages fitted as standard. Whether driving down city streets or taking part in an exclusive grand tour, high-powered luxury will be met with greater-than-ever safety on the road.
The limited edition of 100 units become available in March.
Multi70: Transferring car technology into a super yacht
Tumblr media
The Multi70 was a Maserati first involving the transfer of technological know-how from the world of cars to the world of high-performance yachts: the engineers of the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena and Giovanni Soldini, skipper of Maserati Multi 70 culminating in a prestigious race.
Organized by the Royal Cape Yacht Club and held every two or three years, the Cape2Rio is the Southern Hemisphere’s longest intercontinental yacht race.  The original course starts in Cape Town and arrives in Rio de Janeiro, but for some editions the finish line has been moved to other destinations: in the years of protests against the Apartheid the race finished in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and, in 2006 and 2009, in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
The camouflaged experiment: Road to electric dreams
Tumblr media
The first “mule” for the development of the new Maserati powertrain was driven out of the Viale Ciro Menotti gates in November last year, becoming the forefather of a new family of engines integrated exclusively on the vehicles of the brand.  The data acquired through the kilometres covered by the mules was integrated with the experience gathered in the Maserati Innovation Lab driving simulators, the most advanced in the world.   This working methodology fine-tunes and develops the prototypes with final bodywork and mechanics.
Inside the Modena plant: Creating the cars of tomorrow
Tumblr media
So much hype as the big reveal takes place in May later this year.  In the leadup a handful of media and guests were invited in for a taste of what is to come, complete with bedroom suite in the middle of the production plant fully immersing oneself into the process.
Tumblr media
Major modernisation is already under way on the production line, to also accommodate for the electric version, as well as the construction of a new painting line.
The Modena factory, the home of Maserati for 80 years, is a magical place that combines the Maserati heritage and “made in Italy” DNA along with a strong drive towards the future and innovation: it is in this very place that the long-awaited new super-sports car planned for 2020 will be built.
Furthermore, an important step for Maserati innovation is the level of Autonomous Driving. All new Maserati including the updated current models, will offer a range of autonomous driving capabilities, starting with Maserati Level 2 enhanced Highway Assist progressing to Level 3 with hands-off offering close to full autonomy, having the ability to maneuver in and out of lanes or bring the vehicle to a safe stop at the side of the road if the driver is unable to take control of the vehicle.
Tumblr media
Static Simulator The Static Simulator is the starting point for every experience in the Maserati realm of simulation.  It’s composed of a cockpit, three projectors and high computational power. It is a simple system that helps engineers, from the very initial phase of the development process, obtain immediate feedback from the driver, and makes a major contribution to new model validation. Real subsystems such as steering and braking, ABS and ESC can be added in, to create tests that connect physical and simulated components to provide a test-bed for developing all the characteristics of a new vehicle.  Driver assist systems can be developed, trialled and validated in a safe environment by reproducing the complex scenarios which may arise anywhere in the world.
Tumblr media
Dynamic Simulator with latest generation DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology The Dynamic Simulator enables full exploitation of systems’ integration thanks to the evolution of proprietary control strategies, cutting development times and costs. It also helps to reduce the number of prototypes and ensures that the Virtual Sign-Off is very close to the final product.  The simulator makes it possible to test cars on various racetracks on the same day.  Modifications to the vehicle can be made with a few simple clicks and this greatly simplifies the analysis of the data gathered.
Another particularly interesting characteristic is a very thin cushion of air which makes the entire platform float over the pavement, enabling dynamic, silent and continuous movement thanks to the electric actuators.
Tumblr media
The “User eXperience” development labs The Maserati driver simulator hub includes a lab dedicated to vehicle ergonomics, enabling accurate reproduction of driving posture, visibility and interactions with the on-board controls and displays, and where the vehicle under development can be driven in any scenario with the utmost realism.  The “User eXperience” development labs support the integrated development of ergonomics, the human-machine interface and the vehicle’s perceived quality for genuine “user-centred design” dedicated to delivering the distinctive Maserati user experience.

Inside Sergio Marchionne’s Final FCA Five-Year Plan
After lots of anticipation about the immediate future for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with his June 1st five-year presentation as CEO, Sergio Marchionne made an electrifying appearance in his final Capital Markets Day presentation at the company’s helm, with his right-hand (FCA president John Elkann) at his side.
The 2019-2022 outlook for financial analysts, investors and press extolled investments in electrification and autonomous driving, allocating $10.5 billion to areas including FCA’s growing driverless car partnership with Google’s Waymo arm. Up to 62,000 additional Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans will join Waymo’s driverless fleet by the end of 2018.
“FCA is committed to bringing self-driving technology to our customers in a manner that is safe, efficient and realistic,” said Marchionne. “Strategic partnerships, such as the one we have with Waymo, will help to drive innovative technology to the forefront.”
Waymo is the only company with a fleet of fully self-driving cars, with no one in the driver seat, on public roads. Later this year, Waymo will launch the world’s first self-driving transportation service, allowing the public to use Waymo’s app to request a vehicle.
FCA plans to have an electrified version of every global model by 2022, representing more than 30 models across four brands. “This plan will provide the portfolio of products aligned with our brands that will ensure our ability to comply in each region” with stricter emissions and fuel economy standards, Marchionne commented. Regions will receive an electrified mix from FCA based on specific emissions standards including gas-powered, hybrid and battery-electric cars.
Among his peers Marchionne is something of a latecomer to automotive electrification, but government support, consumer demands and competitors such as Tesla have made him a believer. “There is a cultural and regulatory change,” he explained. “The automotive sector is widely regarded as the chief source of carbon emissions and, in turn, contributor to climate change.”
Looking ahead, FCA will also focus spending on four core brands: Jeep SUVs, Ram pickups, and Alfa Romeo and Maserati luxury cars. “These brands comprise the most significant portion of our revenues and earnings,” he explained.
Jeep is planning three all-new vehicles in an aggressive global growth agenda, including a subcompact car for emerging markets and a rebooted (and super-sized) Grand Wagoneer for the U.S. There will also be four fully electric Jeep nameplates. As the Jeep portion of the presentation noted, the white space for the brand is addressing the needs of the urban driver with all-weather capability, fuel-efficient, fully-connected and stress-free mobility.
Ram is getting a rev-up in a bid to rise beyond being the No. 3 pickup truck brand behind Ford’s F-150 and GM’s increasingly high-tech line of trucks. A new, premium version of its mainstay Ram 1500 full-size pickup is coming to America and a mid-size pickup launching globally, part of a plan to boost Ram sales by at least 20% annually by 2022. A full-size Ram Rebel TRX, the new premium model, will take on Ford’s F-150 Raptor, one of the most expensive pickups sold in the U.S.
Maserati has Tesla in its sights with a bold electrification platform dubbed Maserati Blue, creating electrification options for the new Quattroporte and Levante and a new electrified model called the Alfieri. FCA recently brought Alfa Romeo back to the U.S. after decades of absence.
Perhaps most notable was what Marchionne didn’t say regarding FCA’s namesake brands, Fiat and Chrysler, both of which were overlooked in the five-year plan along with Dodge, which collectively make up less than 20% of FCA’s global sales. Fiat’s fuel-efficient small cars have flatlined during an era of reasonable gasoline prices in the U.S., while Chrysler has sputtered in the sedan category. The Chrysler 200 compact was cut two years ago while the Chrysler 300 full-size sedan is on its way out.
The brands aren’t going anywhere. Chrysler will produce more vans and possibly crossovers in North America, where the Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid are holding their own with competitors, while its cars are killed off. Look for a crossover or two to come sometime down the line. Expect hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions of each new model.
The only new Fiat model that has been confirmed is a new version of the all-electric Fiat 500e, a car Marchionne has encouraged customers not to buy as the company lost $14,000 per model sold. Fiat North America will focus on “green cars,” though what exactly that means is unclear. Expect a refreshed version of the 500X in the next couple of years.
While the last Dodge Demon just rolled off the assembly line, Marchionne shot down rumors of a revived Dodge Viper, saying it’s “not in the plan.” While he didn’t reveal much more about Dodge’s future overall at the Capital Markets Day event, he did tell Motor Authority that the Dodge Charger and Challenger muscle cars will continue to be produced on the Chrysler LX platform.
Separately from the fate of its brands, FCA is planning to sway on-the-fence buyers by launching a financial services arm (by acquisition or from scratch) to help finance vehicle purchases. While more than 2.1 million new cars and trucks were sold by FCA in the U.S. last year, it’s currently the only major automaker in the market without a financing arm.
“Given our strong financial performance and improving credit profile, we believe the time is right to pursue a U.S. Finco strategy,” Marchionne said. “FCA will have adequate capital to fund the equity needed and expects to have the credit rating to make the Finco funding competitive.”

First Drive: 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe
AUSTIN, Texas – Right now is not the time to savor the 1450-watt Burmester surround-sound audio system or the 64-color ambient interior lighting or the 12.3-inch high-res color navigation display because, at the moment, the speedo is flashing 159 mph and if I don’t brake immediately and very hard indeed I will fly right through Turn 12 at Circuit of the Americas and into the kitchen of the nearby Green Mesquite BBQ. Fortunately, I do not currently have two passengers riding along in the back seats, because going airborne would undoubtedly spill their Moët & Chandon Rosé.
Last year, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R won one of eight coveted spots on our 2018 Automobile All-Stars list. Our resident hot shoe Andy Pilgrim dubbed it “the best example of brute force with no ignorance I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving.” The only problem? The two-door GT R allowed its driver to share its staggering muscle and handling brilliance with only one lucky passenger.
Well, AMG devotees can now invite three friends to the power party, thanks to the arrival of the all-new 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Unlike its two-door sibling, the new four-door is not an AMG-modified version of an existing Benz. It’s an entirely AMG-bred machine, an all-wheel-drive, performance-biased rival to the Porsche Panamera. The U.S. market will get three versions. The entry-level model is the GT 53, featuring Benz’s all-new, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with an electric supercharger and a mild hybrid system dubbed “EQ Boost” that adds 21 horsepower and as much as 184 pound-feet of torque. Total output is 429 hp at 6,000 rpm and 384 pound-feet at 5,800. Next up is the GT 63, which boasts the same AMG 32-valve, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 found in the two-door GT R. It delivers 577 hp at 5,500 rpm and 74 more pound-feet of torque than in the two-seater, 590 lb-ft at 2,500 rpm. Finally, at the top of the pyramid, just itching to meet a Panamera Turbo at a stoplight, is the version I drove around COTA, the GT 63 S, with its version of the twin-turbo V-8 boosted to a thundering 630 hp at 6,500 rpm and 664 lb-ft at 2,500. Both V-8 models are mated to a wet-clutch nine-speed automatic transmission; the GT 53 gets a nine-speed with a conventional torque converter. The V-8 GTs will arrive early in 2019, with the GT 53 following shortly thereafter.
As you’d expect from AMG’s star GT 4-Door, the 63 S is one seriously quick automobile. The maker claims a 0-to-60-mph time of just 3.1 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 195 mph. There’s also the all-weather versatility of AMG Performance 4Matic+ variable all-wheel drive, which uses an electro-mechanical clutch to bias more torque to the front axle as necessary. Standard on the 63 S (and optional on the GT 63) is a Drift Mode feature, which deactivates the transfer case when the car is in Race mode, allowing the 63 S to operate entirely in rear-wheel drive—the better to burn the back tires into smoking husks while you pirouette sideways through turns. Also standard on the V-8 models are an electronically locking rear diff and rear-wheel steering. Up to 62 mph, the rear tires steer opposite to the fronts, effectively shortening the wheelbase and improving responsiveness. Above 62 mph, the rears steer in phase with the fronts—elongating the wheelbase for added stability at speed.
No fewer than six driving modes are available to tailor the 63 S to your motoring needs: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual, which allows the driver to create a customized profile of powertrain response, steering feel, suspension damping, and even the exhaust valves. Within the various modes is a new AMG Dynamics feature that—using on-board sensors to monitor such inputs as speed, lateral-g force, and steering angle—constantly adjusts the stability control, all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, and the limited slip. The Slippery and Comfort driving modes get a “basic” setting, optimized for stability. In Sport mode the AMG Dynamics shift to “advanced,” which lowers yaw damping and quickens steering response for improved responsiveness. Sport+ gets a “pro” setting, which adds even more liveliness and driving assistance. Finally, for track driving, the Race mode uses a “master” setting that allows a bit of oversteer and the quickest steering response of all. Whenever a particular driving mode is selected, the corresponding AMG Dynamics setting is displayed on the multimedia screen.
While the GT 53 rides on an AMG Ride Control sport suspension with steel springs and adaptive damping, the V-8 models feature an air suspension, also with adaptive damping. Three different spring-tuning settings are available, depending on the selected driving mode. To reduce roll and pitch, the spring rate is also automatically adjusted in such conditions as hard acceleration, heavy braking, or sudden turning maneuvers.
Active aerodynamics are employed on every AMG GT, the rear spoiler flattening-out for reduced drag on straightaways and moving to a steep, high-downforce setting in turns. Choose the available Aerodynamics package (available only on V-8 GTs), and the size of the front splitter is increased while the active rear wing is replaced with a fixed, manually adjustable rear spoiler. At 186 mph, the fixed rear wing provides an additional 66 pounds of downforce compared with the active version. In front, 20 vertical fins in the lower front bumper are opened and closed by an electric motor to steer the airflow as necessary (and to ensure optimum engine cooling).
While nowhere near as dramatic as its long-hooded, two-door GT R cousin, the GT 4-Door is a clean, flowing shape with a profile a bit more rakish than its Panamera rival’s—though not as distinctive as the Maserati Quattroporte’s. The V-8 models get a sportier front end than the GT 53, with larger air intakes wrapped in silver trim. Optional cosmetic packages include Night (with high-gloss black trim), Chrome, and Carbon Fiber. Wheel sizes from 19 inches to 21 inches are available, all of them in lightweight alloy to minimize unsprung weight.
The GT 63 S is nothing short of gorgeous inside, leather-lined and radiating quality like a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Most important, of course, are those two rear seats—and I’m happy to report they’re plenty roomy. An available Executive Rear Seat Package includes a center console with touchscreen infotainment and climate controls, wireless mobile-phone charging, and even a temperature-controlled cupholder. The package also allows the rear seats to fold forward, increasing trunk space.
Up front, the GT 63 S features two huge 12.3-inch color displays with a choice of three modes: Classic, Sport, and Supersport—which adds additional performance info and, most helpfully when shifting manually via the aluminum wheel paddles, a large shift light that blinks red when you’re approaching the rev limit. The steering wheel is a superb, flat-bottom three-spoke design. It also sports “display buttons” that are actually tiny touchscreens capable of displaying various icons depending on the function being used. Without removing either hand from the steering wheel, the driver can control everything from the infotainment system to the preferred driving mode. And if you feel like channeling your inner Lewis Hamilton, every GT 4-Door comes standard with an AMG Track Pace package that, when driving on a race circuit, displays more than 80 pieces of data, from g loads to 0-to-60-mph times. In addition, the system can record lap and sector times, allow drivers to analyze their driving performance back in the pits.
On the road, the GT 63 S is refined and impressively quiet, with almost no discernable wind noise. Even in Sport mode, the ride remains fluid and comfortable, never turning harsh when the pavement is broken. As you’d expect given the 664 pound-feet on tap, the car surges away from stoplights and up steep hills effortlessly, the nine-speed transmission slicing-up the torque into seamlessly distributed chunks. Information is well-displayed and easy to read, though the interface can still be awkward to use (the central touchpad is overly touchy and difficult to navigate, especially on the move). If you like hanging out in nightclubs, you’ll love the glowing band of colored lighting that winds its way across the doors and dash.
It’s on the track, though, that the GT 63 S really shows its mettle. Lapping the 3.4-mile, 20-turn COTA circuit—home to the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix—I started out in Sport+ mode, following in line behind German racer (and winner of the 2018 24 Hours of Nürburgring) Jan Seyffarth, who wasted no time getting up to speed. For a leather-lined, luxuriously appointed Gran Turismo, the 63 S runs damn well. Acceleration is fierce albeit completely composed, the 4Matic+ system putting the power down seamlessly. At the end of the 0.62-mile back straight, the 63 S was closing-in on 160 mph; fortunately, the brakes are huge, ventilated and perforated composite discs with 6-piston fixed calipers in front. At no point during our lapping session did they even hint of fade.
AMG had not yet finalized curb-weight figures at the press preview, but it’s safe to say the GT 63 S is no featherweight—despite extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber in the mostly steel structure. Yet it bites hard into turns, with little understeer, and displays impressive composure during transient maneuvers (especially welcome when you’re flying through COTA’s high-speed esses). Steering feel is excellent, nicely weighted and delivering useful cornering-load feedback. For one lap I switched into Race mode and, appropriately, the 63 S seemed to loosen-up, the tail definitely becoming more lively and steering feel seeming to quicken. I could still feel the stability system stepping in, though, if I was too heavy on the throttle exiting a turn.
Pricing is still to come, but figure a base sticker of around $150,000 for the well-outfitted GT 63 S. That puts it roughly on par with the Panamera Turbo and slightly above the rear-drive Maserati Quattroporte GTS. So it’s pricey, yes, but this new AMG does everything well: it’s comfortable, beautifully attired, loaded with every imaginable amenity, built like a bank safe, and fast enough to nip at the heels of just about any sports car you can name. Now, go choose three lucky friends.

TEST DRIVES: My Day With Alfa/Maserati — Part 2 — Maserati Levante GTS
So last week, I wrote a story about my day with Alfa Romeo and Maserati in Michigan, where I was treated to good food, some great cars and some crappy weather. The Italian flare of the event was enough to make up for the latter, though. When we last spoke of this, I had left off at Alfa Romeo, as much of the Maserati information was under embargo but I didn’t want to chop it up for you, so I figured I’d wait until the day it was all okay to talk about. That day is today and the big story, the one that was under embargo, is the brand-new Maserati Levante GTS.
Maserati officially revealed the Levante GTS today and it will be making its worldwide debut at the Goodwood festival of speed. However, it made a much quieter debut just a couple of weeks ago with yours truly in attendance. Not only did all of us journos at the event get to see the Levante GTS in person but a lucky few of us had the chance to drive it. Thanks to some diligent and patient waiting, along with an incredibly helpful team at Maserati, I was able to get some seat time in Maserati’s newest beast of an SUV minutes before I had to leave for the airport. But before we get into the new Levante, let’s talk a bit about my day with Maserati first, as the Levante was just the finale.
Prior to that day, I’d never driven a Maserati before. I’d driven a first-gen Ferrari California, which sported the same 4.7 liter naturally-aspirated V8 as a Maserati Gran Turismo, but that’s the closest I’d ever gotten. So I was excited to get behind the wheel of a car from a brand that I’ve admired for almost my entire life, a brand whose racing history and pedigree is almost unparalleled.
The first car I got in all day was a Maserati Ghibli S. For those of you not in the know, the Ghibli is about BMW 5 Series size, with similar levels of luxury and tech. However, the Ghibli S is more expensive than every other 5 Series without an M badge and it packs a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged, Ferrari-derived V6 engine with 430 hp. I rode shotgun first, as another journalist took the driver’s seat. That allowed me to check out the interior quality and infotainment system a bit, as we drove along some Michigan roads quite slowly, due to the lashing rain.
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Not with the quality of the materials, as they were mostly lovely (especially the almost unbelievably soft headliner. It’s like you’re touching baby bunny fur), but I was disappointed with some of the touch points. I understand that Maserati is a low-volume automaker and that it needs to borrow FCA parts to make its cars within budget. But seeing the same window switches, wiper stalk and buttons as my wife’s 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee turned me off. This was a Maserati, a car from one of the most exclusive, prestigious names in all of automotive history. I don’t want to see Jeep parts. Hell, some of the switches you can find in a Chrysler 200 rental.
Maserati Ghibli S
Having said that, driving it made things better. Once behind the wheel, I realized Maserati did do some things really well with the Ghibli. The seating position is excellent, as is the pedal placement. I also like the steering wheel, even if it was a bit boring for a Maserati. But that engine, what a lovely engine. Gobs of torque, great noise and effortless forward thrust. And much like Alfa Romeo, it had lovely metal paddle shifters that just beg to be worked. So the Ghibli S was good fun on the move but when you slow down it starts to remind you of its FCA roots. Which is disappointing.
Unfortunately, my next Maserati experience wasn’t much better. Following that drive in the Ghibli, I drove an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, one of my absolute favorite new cars on the planet, as mentioned in the previous article. So I was coming off a bit of a high, from just how excellent the Giulia was on track. Following that, I jumped in a Maserati Quattroporte on the same track. While I’d never driven the previous-gen Quattroporte, I was always in love with it. It’s style, its charm and its free-breathing Ferrari V8. So I had high hopes for this new one. Unfortunately, I was let down.
On track, it’s just far, far too soft of a car. The steering was woolly, the brakes were mushy and even the eight-speed ZF gearbox, which is usually flawless, seemed slow and dimwitted. The engine, which is the same 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 as the Ghibli, was excellent and made a lovely muted growl, but the rest of the car seriously disappointed. Now, admittedly, I didn’t get to drive the Quattroporte on the road, which is where I think it would be perfectly at home. It is a luxury car after all and I think it probably makes a good one. However, a Maserati, luxury car or not, is supposed to be able to thrill and it just didn’t. Prior to driving, I had sat through a demonstration on the history of the brand and how its main goal was to make driver’s cars, regardless of vehicle segment. Yet, the Quattroporte seemed to spit in the face of that claim.
Maserati Quattroporte
So after having driven the Quattroporte, I really wasn’t too thrilled about the brand itself and was extremely skeptical about what its SUV would feel like. Still, I wasn’t going to let an extremely exclusive test drive slip through my fingers. So I waited and waited and waited some more for a chance to get in the Maserati Levante GTS. Maserati only had three on hand, all of which were only doing a few laps and then had to wait for other Maseratis and then other Alfas to go ’round the track before getting back on. So it was a process and it took awhile and my clock was ticking, as I had to catch a ride to the airport at 2:30 PM and it was already just after 2:00 PM.
Thankfully, the kind folks at Maserati worked some magic and another journalist who was staying later kindly switched time slots with me. So I was able to get into the all-new GTS, a car no one had even seen yet, never mind driven.
So what is the Maserati Levante GTS? It’s the brand’s latest high-performance SUV, designed to take on cars like the BMW X6 M, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GLE63. It’s not the top-of-the-line Maserati SUV, mind you, as that’s the 590 hp Levante Trofeo. The Levante GTS is a bit less insane but a bit more attractive because of it.
Levante GTS
Under its hood lies a 3.8 liter, twin-turbocharged Ferrari V8 that makes 550 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with an eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive. It also has close to a 50:50 weight balance, front to back, which is really impressive for an SUV. According to Maserati, 0-60 mph happens in 4.0 seconds flat but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s actually a bit quicker than that. It’s really damn fast.
So we head out onto the track and the Levante GTS immediately felt better than the Quattroporte by a mile. It blew me away, actually, because I was enjoying chucking it around far more than any other Maserati I drove that day. It was really confusing to me because the Quattroporte felt sloppy and soft while GTS felt nimble and light on its feet. That engine is superb as well, with explosive power and a great noise. I was really enjoying the Levante GTS quite a bit. And then the rain came.
While it was misting at the beginning of my laps with it, half way through the second or third lap, it seemed as if the skies open up and a waterfall simply fell on the track right as we were doing about 120 mph and approaching our braking zone. So things got a bit nerve-wracking from there. The rest of the laps, we couldn’t see a foot in front of the car, never mind apexes and braking points. So it was a really butt-clenching game of trying to go fast enough so as to not get rear-ended by the car behind me but not too fast so that I can’t react to the track ahead of me. All in a very exclusive, six-figure Maserati. That part wasn’t enjoyable.
Still, once it was over, I was feeling optimistic about the brand again. After having heard Tim Kuniskis, the global head of Alfa and Maserati, talk about the direction of the brand and then having felt the Maserati Levante GTS, it’s easy to see that the once-revered Italian brand is on the rise. It’s really an impressive SUV, the new Levante GTS, and one that will give the BMW X6 M a real fright. While the BMW will still sport better interior tech and probably better build quality, as the GTS still had some FCA bits in it, the performance and driving dynamics of the Maser will have the X5 M very worried.
After that hectic drive, it was off to the airport to fly home. Which was of course met with more delays and more waiting around. But I was happy that I had finally experienced Maserati, a brand I had always dreamed about. While my experience was a mixed bag, it was still a worthwhile one, one I’m thankful for having had, and one that left me optimistic about Maserati.

New Post has been published on Top Auto Blog
New Post has been published on http://topauto.site/the-new-strategy-fca-b/
The new strategy FCA: bets on Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Maserati
At the test site, Balocco the presentation of a new five-year plan FCA group (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). Its head, 65-year-old Sergio Marchionne, presented the strategy of the company for the last time: next year he will leave the post of the head. Therefore, the event aroused great interest, and the Sergio even put on a suit and tie instead of traditional sweaters.
The event firm has prepared four detailed presentations of the five — year plans brands Jeep, Ram, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. Brands Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge and Lancia this honor is not rewarded. However, Lancia all been clear — this year mark has to go with the latter for himself, the home market, and the only remaining model Ypsilon will retire.
About Chrysler recalled indirectly declaring that the company Waymo placed an order for another 62 thousand minivans Pacifica for conversion to drones. Rumors about the closing of this American brand with over 90 years of history failed to materialize. Although Chrysler is really hanging in the balance, because in addition to modern Pacifica in the lineup leaving only the Chrysler 300 sedan, which is on the Assembly line for 14 years.
The news of Fiat — the imminent end of production of the model Punto in Europe and the transfer of a compact hatchback Panda from Italy to Poland. That is the only Fiat Italian origin remains crossover 500X, which together with the platform model, the Jeep Renegade making plant in Melfi. But by 2022, the promise of new electric version of the Fiat 500 retrocar and its cargo-and-passenger modification with the revived name of the Giardiniera. As well as three new crossover for the Latin American market, including a large seven-seat car-based pickup Fiat Toro.
But the main focus is given to the Jeep brand, the most profitable branch of the FCA. Over the next five years the Jeep will see eight new models! Among them the long-promised luxury SUV Grand Wagoneer and pickup based on Wrangler, new Grand Cherokee with two and three rows of seats, the new model “just” Cherokee, the updated Compass, and a “low three-row crossover segment D” and a small SUV, which will stand on the step below Renegade. However, two of these models will be designed exclusively for the Chinese market, which is already exclusively represented Jeep Grand Commander.
A small sensation was the presentation of the brand Alfa Romeo in the range will return the coupe and GTV 8C! Model GTV on the basis of the Giulia sedan will quadruple all-wheel-drive hybrid with a total capacity of over 600 HP and a weight distribution 50/50. And the new “Otto-Chi” (8S in Italian) is a supercar by carbon fiber chassis located in the base of biturbomotor and two electric motors on the front axle.
