Katsuki Bakugou had faced a lot of dangerous situations in his life—villains, explosions, life-or-death battles. But nothing, absolutely nothing, prepared him for the moment he brought you home to meet his parents.

“Listen, my old hag’s annoying as hell, so don’t let her get to you,” he muttered, gripping your hand as you both stood at the doorstep.

You gave him a look. “Katsuki, she’s your mother.”

“Yeah, and?”

Before you could scold him, the door slammed open.

“TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH, YOU DAMN BRAT!” Mitsuki Bakugou stood in the doorway, hands on her hips, scowling at her son like he’d just committed the greatest sin of all time. “WHAT, YOU FORGOT WHERE YOUR OWN HOUSE WAS?!”

Katsuki clicked his tongue. “MAYBE IF YOU WEREN’T ALWAYS YELLING, I WOULDN’T HAVE TO THINK TWICE ABOUT COMING HOME, YOU OLD HAG!”

SMACK!

The entire house went silent.

Your hand was now firmly planted on the back of Katsuki’s head. He stumbled forward, eyes wide in pure betrayal, whipping around to face you.

“WHAT THE HELL, WOMAN?!”

You crossed your arms, glaring at him. “That’s your mother, you fucker! Show some damn respect!”

“THE HELL DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!”

Mitsuki’s jaw dropped, then—

“PFTTTT—HAHAHAHAHA!” She threw her head back, cackling like she had just won the lottery. “OH MY GOD, I LOVE HER!”

“LIKE HELL YOU DO!” Katsuki barked, rubbing the back of his head. “SHE JUST ASSAULTED ME!”

“You deserved it, you disrespectful gremlin!” you shot back. “Seriously, what kind of son yells at his mom like that?”

“I’VE BEEN YELLING AT HER FOR YEARS, AND NOW YOU GOT A DAMN PROBLEM WITH IT?!”

“Yes, because I have manners! Something you apparently lack!”

Mitsuki wiped away a tear from laughing so hard. “Ohhh, she’s perfect! You’re officially approved, sweetheart. You are absolutely going to be my daughter-in-law.”

You grinned back. “Happy to be here, Mom.”

Katsuki’s eye twitched as he whipped around to you. “OI—THE HELL?! I HAVEN’T EVEN INTRODUCED YOU YET, AND YOU’RE ALREADY CALLING HER MOM?!”

You shrugged, completely unbothered. “She likes me. What can I say?”

Mitsuki smirked. “More than I like you, that’s for sure.”

Katsuki let out an inhuman screech. “WHAT KIND OF BACKSTABBING BULLSH—”

Mitsuki waved a hand dismissively. “Oh, quit your whining, brat. I finally got a daughter, and you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”

Katsuki looked personally offended. “THE HELL YOU MEAN ‘FINALLY’?! YOU HAD ME!”

“You don’t count,”

Katsuki let out a primal scream. “I’M STILL YOUR SON! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU PICKING HER OVER ME?!” Mitsuki shrugged. “Because she’s not a little brat. She’s beautiful, polite, and doesn’t yell at me every five seconds. Unlike some people.” Katsuki choked. “THE HELL YOU JUST SAY?!”

“You heard me, brat.” Mitsuki grinned at you. “I’ve been waiting YEARS for someone to smack some sense into this idiot. Welcome to the family.”

You smirked at Katsuki. “See? Your mom likes me more than you.” His eye twitched. “LIKE HELL SHE DOES!”

“Like hell I don’t!” Mitsuki shot back.

“I’M YOUR ACTUAL KID, YOU OLD HAG!”

“AND SHE’S BETTER THAN YOU!”

“LIKE HELL SHE IS!”

“I BROUGHT YOU INTO THIS WORLD AND GRACED YOU WITH MY GENES—DON’T MAKE ME SHOVE YOU BACK UP MY VAGINA!”

Masaru spit out his tea.

“WHAT THE ACTUAL FU—?!” Katsuki turned horrified. “WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVEN SAY THAT?! HAVE SOME FUCKING MANNERS!”

“OH MY GOD.”

Mitsuki grinned. “YOU WANNA ACT LIKE A LITTLE SHIT, I’LL SEND YOU BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM.”

He was losing his mind now.

This was supposed to be a simple introduction. Bring you home, let you meet his parents, and get the hell out before anything too embarrassing happened. But no. Instead, you and his traitor of a mother had become best friends within minutes, and somehow, the two of you were teaming up against him. “This is mutiny,” he muttered under his breath, arms crossed as he glared at the two of you laughing like old friends. Masaru sipped his tea quietly, already accepting that this night belonged to chaos.

“Alright, listen up,” he grumbled, arms crossed as he stood at the head of the table. “I officially brought her here to introduce her to you, so stop running your damn mouths for a second.”

Mitsuki snorted. “What, so we weren’t already introduced when she smacked you upside the head?” You smirked. “Pretty sure that was the best introduction I could’ve made.”

Katsuki shot you a glare. “The hell is that supposed to mean?!”

“It means you deserved it,” you replied sweetly.

Mitsuki cackled. “She’s got a good head on her shoulders. Unlike you.”

Katsuki groaned. “Tch. Whatever.” He sighed, resigned to his fate. “Fine. This is my girlfriend, (Y/N).”

Masaru smiled warmly. “It’s nice to meet you, Y/N. You seem like a wonderful young lady.” Mitsuki grinned. “A smart young lady, too. I like this one.”

Katsuki clicked his tongue. “Yeah, yeah, whatever—can we eat now, old hag?”

SMACK!

For the second time that night, your hand connected with the back of his head. Katsuki whipped around, eyes blazing. “THAT’S THE SECOND FUCKING TIME PRINCESS,”

You planted your hands on your hips. “What do you think, Katsuki? You will not call your mom like that while I’m here!”

“She doesn’t care—”

“I CARE!” you snapped.

Mitsuki threw her head back in laughter. “Oh, this is hilarious,” Masaru sighed. “We did try to raise him with manners…”

You crossed your arms. “Now, say it properly.” Katsuki scowled. “Like hell I will.”

“Oh, yes you will,” you countered. “Now, repeat after me: Can we eat now, Moomm~~?”

Katsuki twitched. “No.” You smirked, tapping your fingers on the table. “Alright then, let’s break it down,” You lifted a finger. “M.”

Mitsuki gasped dramatically. “Oh my god, she’s spelling it out for him,” Masaru chuckled behind his tea. Katsuki’s eye twitched. “Don’t you dare—”

You lifted a second finger. “O.”

Katsuki growled. “I swear to fucking god—”

A third finger. “M.”

Mitsuki was shaking from laughter. “THE DISRESPECT! HE’S BEING TAUGHT LIKE A DAMN TODDLER!”

Katsuki turned to his father, seething. “ARE YOU JUST GONNA SIT THERE AND LET THIS HAPPEN?!”

Masaru gave him a helpless smile. “Well… you really should call your mom properly, son.”

Katsuki nearly flipped the table. You leaned closer, lips barely an inch from his ear. “C’mon, Katsuki~. Say it properly,

or… I’LL. REPEAT. IT”

Katsuki gritted his teeth. His body shook with barely contained rage. Finally, through pure suffering, he muttered—

“…Can we eat now,

…Mom.”

The room went silent.

Then—

Mitsuki slammed her hand on the table and howled. Masaru sighed in relief.

You? You just grinned and reached up to press a quick, soft kiss on Katsuki’s lips.

Instant shutdown.

Katsuki turned beet red as he stood frozen in place. You patted his cheek. “Good boy,”

Mitsuki was wheezing at this point. “HOLY SHIT—HE LOOKS LIKE HIS BRAIN JUST SHORT CIRCUITED!” Masaru chuckled. “Well, at least she knows how to calm him down.”

Katsuki snapped out of it and pointed at his mom. “YOU’RE NEVER SPEAKING OF THIS AGAIN,” Mitsuki wiped away a tear. “Like hell I won’t. I’m calling your aunt about this.”

“LIKE HELL YOU ARE!”

As Katsuki and his mom bickered, you just sipped your tea, completely at peace.

Yeah. You were definitely part of this family now.

Mitsuki Bakugou is such an interesting character to me... I know everyone is always quick to either defend or accuse her (of abuse), but honestly, I don't think her treatment of Bakugou is a black and white topic.

First point, I know the show frames Bakugou's violent nature as something that's been apart of him since he was a kid. Like, he was just born like that of course!

It is somewhat pictured this way in team up missions. But let's be honest, children grow up following their parents as an example. I don't like the whole excuse that the only reason Mitsuki is violent towards Bakugou bc Bakugou is violent towards her. Why is he violent towards her?? It's completely plausible that Mitsuki was violent and aggressive even before Bakugou was born, and Bakugou somewhat led by her example. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you know?

This scene in particular is interesting. People who defend Mitsuki are often quick to say that, well, he was yelling at her, so of course she hit him!

First off... your child lashing at you should not be an excuse to hit them. Bakugou was just yelling here, he didn't make any violent threat or action towards he. And, it's also good to note that before this, she had hit Bakugou for literally no reason...

Like... we can see here that Bakugou was just sitting there quietly. He even looks a little dejected (understandable considering what he had just gone through). This slap was completely unprovoked??? Of course, this is played off for laughs, but it really gives you an insight on their dynamic. And just after Mitsuki hit him, Bakugou even exclaimed "that hurt!" (In the english dub) ....prompting her to hit him again, as I showed above. This is obviously concerning. And yes, you can argue that dealing with Bakugou's violent and aggressive nature simply wore her out to this point, but again, where do we draw the line with using physical violence against your child?? Does being bratty excuse it?? Does having good intentions excuse it?? What excuses it?? It becomes really hard to justify it when you ask yourself those questions.

Bakugou also makes these comments when they're trying to win over the Masegaki kids... confirming that Mitsuki used violence towards him even as a young child.

Furthermore, Mitsuki isn't painted in the best light even outside of Bakugou... some people may disagree, but Masaru and Mitsuki don't seem to have a healthy marriage. At all. In fact, it seems to be almost abusive to an extent.

This seems to be the normal dynamic in the Bakugou household. Which um. Isn't healthy in the slightest. It's ALSO implied that Mitsuki forced herself on him...

"So you couldn't refuse her." Hello?

I will address that Masaru is blushing in that panel, so it could be seen that Masaru was reciprocating with Mitsuki's "flirtations" but still, "pounced" is an interesting choice of words. This is also played off for comedy because we all know how well shounen treats male sa victims.

She also goes as far to say-

Mitsuki is blatantly victim blaming here. Even if she wasn't being serious, or putting on a front for the teachers, this is a horrible things to say to your son who just went through something traumatizing. It's often ignored because of his brash nature, that Bakugou is still a kid. He was only fifeteen or sixteen at the time he was kidnapped. He has to live with the burden of feeling like he was the reason for his idol's fall. That is a LOT of turmoil for a kid to go through. Imagine you're in the midst of dealing with all that, and your mom insinuates that it's YOUR fault. That's awful. Even if Mitsuki was putting on a front, how was Bakugou supposed to know that??

So, it's pretty obvious that the way Mitsuki treats Bakugou is abuse. But, does mean that Mitsuki doesn't care about Bakugou?? No. Of course not. She loves her son, and it's clear she does. To us, at least.

We see her affectionately looking at her son's photo album.

She admits that she was worried about him while loving ruffling his hair.

She absentmindedly thinks about how he isn't a fan of rain when he's away.

Mitsuki loves Bakugou. There's no doubt about that. But unfortunately, kids will only ever see how their parents present themselves towards them. We can see that Bakugou was present when Mitsuki admitted that she was worried about him, but that was still after she had hit him and victim blamed him. And Bakugou in that panel... almost looked used to it. Used to receiving hits and used to having her do a motherly gesture every now and then, giving him mixed signals. That must be a very stressful way to grow up.

Yes, we can blame Bakugou's quirk, how everyone hyped him up for his current behavior... but if we dig a bit deeper, are those really the only reasons he was so violent towards others?? Or is it possible that he was subconsciously mimicking his mother's behavior?? This does NOT excuse Bakugou's behavior, but it does help put things into perspective.

I think that while Mitsuki loves her son, Bakugou will always have conflicting feelings towards her, and that may end up with their relationship being strained as he reaches adulthood.

Honestly, it's concerning how when dealing with the Todoroki family, Horikoshi portrayed Endeavor's abuse in a serious light, showing how it impacted Todoroki and the family. But Mitsuki, her abuse towards her son is consistently plays off for laughs. As a gag of sorts. That's the common pattern when we see Mitsuki act that way towards Bakugou, it's always framed in a comedic light. Why is that when it's a conventionally attractive woman doing the abuse it's funny?

I have thoughts on Masaru too, but that's a whole other post... so for now, I'll say that Masaru is also complicit in Mitsuki's treatment towards Bakugou, but also a victim of his wife.

You are feel free to have a different take on Mitsuki, but this is how I read her character.

"Baby, calm down, they're not all that bad." He lightly comforted, kissing the top of your head with a concerned frown as his thumb caressed your hip.

"But what if they don't like me?" You deeply frowned at the thought.

"They'll love ya, swear it." He whispered.

You hummed, still concerned, but wanting to get this over with already. It's better to deal with it than fret more than needed.

Katsuki put his large hand on the small of your back as he coaxed you closer to his home, where he lived before becoming a hero.

He glanced down at you when the both of you were directly in front of the door, rubbing his thumb against your waist instead.

"You ready, princess?"

You hesitated before taking one final shaky deep breath,

"Yeah."

"Katsuki!"

The both of you flinched at the loud, booming voice from within the house followed up by the sound of padded feet sprinting towards the door.

BAM

You stared dumbfoundedly at the Katsuki-looking woman, watching as the rabid look on her face quickly shifted to one of sharp yet fond.

She glanced back and forth between Katsuki and you, seeming to examine what was going on before an exaggerated gasp left her lips.

"Katsuki, is this your new little girlfriend??"

"Fiancée." He corrected, looking down at you with the same loving gaze you've learned to love.

The woman squealed before taking your arm and bringing you inside with haste, dragging you towards the living room couch.

Katsuki chuckled behind you before making his way after you after closing the door behind him.

"So, how has he been treating you? Has he ever yelled at you? What're your thoughts on having kids?"

She continued to bombard you with questions with an eager-ish face, cupping your hands in hers as she sat beside you.

Katsuki blinked before lightly scowling at his mother, followed up with a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Damn it, old hag, you're scarin' 'er."

"Quiet." She retorted, glaring over her shoulder at the large hero.

His eye twitched with annoyance before he glanced behind him at the sound of sniffling, looking slightly down to see his father looking proudly up at him.

"Dad." He said simply before enveloping him in a hug,

You and her watched this bondful moment unfold with a soft smile, the sharp features mostly disappearing as she practically melted at the sight.

"I've missed you, son."

"I've missed you both, too."

"Damn it, Katsuki! Just had ta burn the chicken cutlets, didn't you!?"

"Wasn't my fault, you old hag!"

"Hey, hey, let's all calm down now."

"Shut up!"

You watched in silence as the family bickered, gently fiddling with the utensils as you awkwardly stared.

You flinched when you heard a slap, gaping when you saw your Fiancée's head lightly bowed down.

"FUCK OFF."

"WATCH YOUR MOUTH!"

"Language everyone–"

You sigh, shaking your head before clicking your tongue and smiling lovingly once more.

Maybe they aren't all that bad afterall.
