Zionist Occupation be like, the tank we sent after this sixty-one-year-old man couldn't take him out. Then we sent foot soldiers after him when he was alone with his arm blown off and he nearly blew them up. Then we sent a drone to come up behind him while he was out of ammo and he turned around with a piece of wood off the ground and nearly took that out too. In conclusion, he was a coward that hid in the tunnels—

saw someone on twitter, whose family is in gaza, say the same thing: her sister told her that israelis are executing palestinian men and boys aged over 16, abducting them, forcing them to strip. these are displaced civilians and survivors. some people are defending the forceful stripping by saying that the purpose is to ensure there's no bomber vest/weapons which is ridiculous bec if that was the purpose, why are they taking pictures like trophies and circulating them online? why do they even suspect civilian men and boys trying to find safety with their families to be wearing a bomber vest? israelis have been releasing videos of stripping and beating palestinians since oct 7 - many of the palestinians victimized this way have been from the west bank. palestinians held in israeli jails are also stripped and beaten in a way that is hauntingly reminiscent of american crimes in abu ghraib prison in iraq.

Thinking about Aaron bushnell tonight. His words are running on a loop in my head. I will not be complicit in genocide. Him screaming for Palestine and freedom until he burns to death. Please god let someone hear him. For all the martyrs. For every person still under occupation, deprived of the dignity of a peaceful life they choose. We’re screaming in the streets for change every other week. And will this government, who only speaks in blood and guns and war, listen finally to fire? 30,000 Palestinian souls later, and we are still asking what it will take for these empires to crumble. That is too many lives lost in silence. May every single one reverberate for generations to come. I will not be complicit.

Saint Sebastian 256 - 288 Feast Day: January 20 Patronage: Soldiers, archers, holy Christian death, athletes
St. Sebastian was a brave Roman soldier who secretly converted many to Christianity in the 3rd century.  He was ordered executed and was shot at with arrows and left for dead; a widow discovered him still alive and nursed him back to health, at which time he denounced the persecution of the Christians and was beaten to death.  He is the patron saint of athletes and soldiers because of his extreme physical endurance and his brave and energetic way of spreading and defending the Faith. {website}

Always interesting to see how each fandom handles death and justified violence, because it varies a lot more than you might expect.
Some take it more seriously, for some it's barely a thought, some don't really care if a character is a murderer. Basically no one gets legally punished for murder, like, EVER. Or legally punished for much of anything. When you see it you can't unsee it! So many characters should be spending at least a few months in prison!!
I gotta say, though, if I had to make a list? When it comes to understanding mortality and grief and guilt, death and its consequences for the survivors, I don't think I've ever seen a better fandom than Final fantasy 7.
This is in strong contrast to my experience with Game of thrones, whose fandom will brutally and viciously kill off named and main characters by the dozen without batting an eyelid.
It seems to be a combination of canon's death rates and in universe morality, that particular fandom quirk that inverts the happiness of its source material, but most importantly The Implications. You'll have seen this with horror games, you'll have seen this with comedies. It is FAR from guaranteed that a fandom will carry the same tones as its canon (just look at Danny Phantom 🤭).
What other fandoms have wildly varying tones?

Mourning of Bacchus.
This here is more tragic story than Romeo and Juliet. Why are there no movies about them? Sure their relationship might have been completely platonic (and they were rome mates) but the LOVE, the commitment, the tragic end!
Meanwhile the blessed Serge, deeply depressed and heartsick over the loss of Bacchus, wept and cried out, "No longer, brother and fellow soldier, will we chant together, 'Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!' You have been unyoked from me and gone up to heaven, leaving me alone on earth, bereft [literally, "made single"], without comfort." After he uttered these things, the same night the blessed Bacchus suddenly appeared to him with a face as radiant as an angel's, wearing an officer's uniform, and spoke to him. "Why do you grieve and mourn, brother? If I have been taken from you in body, I am still with you in the bond of union, chanting and reciting, 'I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou hast enlarged my heart.' Hurry then, yourself, brother, through beautiful and perfect confession to pursue and obtain me, when finishing the course. For the crown of justice for me is with you.''

call me a cowardly jew but i'm unnerved as hell by the obsession w martyrdom. especially among young leftists who understandably suffer from mental health issues in large swathes. no, i don't think killing yourself is anything but a preventable tragedy

My mostly-instrumental playlist jumping to "This Is War" while I was putting together a SW post got me thinking about my old habit of watching SW+This Is War fanvids and categorizing how they assigned the roles, esp OT-era ones.
My personal opinion of some appropriate OT-era movie assignments is:
The Good: lots of options actually (the Rebellion generally is best in my books)
The Evil: the Empire, various specific Imperial characters, etc (most comical if it's Motti being choked though)
The Soldier: Jyn and Cassian, or if only going OT, shots of Rebel soldiers or stormtroopers (one incorporating the PT would do better with clonetroopers though)
The Civilian: Baze and Chirrut or Bail Organa or Mon Mothma or Lando in ESB or Han (add PT and definitely Padmé)
The Martyr: Alderaan (or Bail specifically if you want a person) :(
The Victim: Owen and Beru (or Alderaan, or the Rogue One team generally/anyone on it)
The Prophet: probably Yoda (or weirdly enough, Palpatine—lots of emphasis on his foresight!)
The Liar: Palpatine (or Obi-Wan, lmao)
The Honest: it'd be pretty funny if it were Vader, but I'd go Chewbacca
The Leader: got to be Leia (could also be Mon Mothma)
The Pariah: Obi-Wan or Yoda or ANH Han
The Victor: Luke (or, depending, Luke and Leia)
The Messiah: Anakin, of course (I object to anyone else for this one!)
