I know 'Marshall' (Mars) is because of the planet/the god just like 'Mercutio' (Mercury). Also they are brothers and Jupiter's sons in Roman mythology... I guess I never thought much about it 😅.

Roma-

Obviously named after his Shakespeare counterpart

Diminutive of Roman (his full name)

From the Late Latin name Romanus meaning "Roman". Roma is also the Latin nominative singular for Rome (the city).

It seems to be related to Romeo (Italian) through Romaeus, another late Latin name.

I find it very funny that Roma and Juliette are both named indirectly after Ancient Rome/roman leaders and that is sooo accurate.

Benedikt-

Form of Benedictus (see Benedict) in several languages. Russian Spelling

Benedikt is English, from the Late Latin name Benedictus, which meant "blessed".

Does not seem to be related to Benvolio, the name of his Shakespeare counterpart. Chloe probably just chose it because it was a Russian name with 'Ben' in it.

Marshall-

English

From an English surname that originally denoted a person who was a marshal. The word marshal originally derives from Latin mariscalcus, itself from Germanic roots akin to Old High German marah "horse" and scalc "servant".

This name is weird. Obviously 'Mars' is used as a nickname, but there's not really any other related names!

DEFINITELY not related to Mercutio. Idk how Chloe chose it, but it fits Marshall perfectly.

Alisa-

I'm pretty sure that my girl doesn't have a Shakespeare counterpart, so Chloe could do whatever she wanted with her name!

It's a variant of Alice in several languages, such as Russian (And surrounding countries, including other East Slavic languages)

Rosalind telling Orions father shit was one of my favourite moments like HE JOINED A FACTION RIVALING HIS BROTHERS TO HELP YOU.

I love how none of them have healthy parental relationships i feel so seen.

Celia and Alisas sisterly relationship is the best thing ever.

I love how when Rosalind spotted Alisa at Seagreen there was an immediate understanding of trust.

Phoebe being Priest was foreshadowed throughout foul lady fortune and I feel so dumb for not seeing it (I could go into this)

Phoebe Hong I have never felt more seen by a character.

Orion and Rosalind have left me pacing my room, screaming acting like a complete maniac throughout the dualogy and they will never not occupy my mind.

Chloe gong is probably one of the best authors whose work I've read she's so good at foreshadowing and weaving plot twists I could ramble on and on.

The atmosphere of the duologies is so perfect, she captures the bustling city, political climate and society of the place at the time PEFECTLY.

I don't think I'll ever get over the secret shanghai universe it'll forever have a special place in my heart. I've loved this book series and these characters since I was like 14 and i BEG FOR A SPECIAL EDITION TO BE RELEASED IN SOUTH AFRICA OMF
