Smiffina Episodes: Stealth Attack
Smithy is drawn back into the Samuel's family again after he witnesses Leanne arguing with a store manager before she is half pushed/half falls into a pile of boxes outside the store. The manager says Leanne accused him of short changing her and started arguing with him and hit him in the process. He claims he did nothing to her - then when asked by Smithy about the cut on her head he says "Self defence" and then "I could accidentally have caught her. "
Smithy asks Leanne what has happened and she tells him she was fired for being late again after she'd been left with Brooke one too many times and then had to attend the station with Carly. She is bleeding from the cut on her head and her leg is really swollen. Carly is nowhere to be seen after leaving Leanne holding the baby. Smithy sighs and tells Leanne they'll look after Brooke whilst she goes to hospital. Emma jumps straight to calling social services but Smithy refuses, telling her he's going to talk to Carly first.
Tumblr media
Leanne's had some time to think now she's been sat in hospital and she realised that the missing £10 she added to the electric meter. Money was tight when she was working and it'll be even worse now. He asks how she lost her job and Leanne admits Carly dumps Brooke on her whenever she feels like it so she's become unreliable at work as she can't leave a 1 year old home alone and Carly never returns when she says she will. Smithy sighs and very regretfully tells her he's going to have to arrest her for the assault on the manager of the shop.
Carly still is nowhere to be seen, Smithy's left three messages for her and he's got people keeping an eye out for her as they drive round. Emma is covered in food from looking after Brooke and has had enough and needs a break so Smithy ropes Nate in to babysit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All is not lost, Carly is finally tracked down and Smithy tells her about her mum and she's clearly worried and jumps to it to follow Smithy to the car to go and see her mum. By the time they return to the station for Brooke, Nate and Brooke have bonded and he's proper goo-goo for her, they even managed a nap together! "Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kezia has been looking into the owner of the shop, he seems as though he has been accused of selling alcohol to people under the age of 18. A particular member of staff was fired for it and Smithy hopes that he can get the manager to drop charges against Leanne if he has a nice word with Trading Standards. It works and Smithy is clearly happy - but his bubble is soon burst when Sun Hill receives a call from one of Carly's neighbours about a child crying solidly for the last hour and half. He and Emma hurry round. Carly doesn't answer the door when Smithy knocks so he kicks it in and finds Brooke crying and home alone. He's had it with Carly, enough second chances. He calls her social worker who attends the station to look after Brooke.
Carly comes into the station and tells Smithy that she only wasn't home because she'd gone to get Brooke some medicine for Colic. He takes her into the front interview room and tears strips off her. Carly is immediately remorseful and says she tries to look after her but her mum is always telling her that her milk is too cold, her bath is too hot etc and she feels like she can't do anything. Then she breaks down into tears. "What if I'm not good enough?" Smithy softens and explains gently it's hard work looking after a baby and Leanne just wants to help. He explains gently she can't be left alone and all that she wants is to be looked after by her mum - and he knows that Carly can do it and she's shown she loves her by the panic when she thought she was being taken away.
He goes to see them later to make sure they're all ok and to let Leanne know she's in the clear. He's happy to find Leanne cuddling Brooke and resting whilst Carly is cleaning. He's clearly impressed and tasks her with something very important - making him a cup of tea!

Smiffina Episodes: Deadly Intent
"Who's Macca?" "Everybody knows Macca!" Smithy tuts to Nate, who has been at the station all of two eps! "Only his mum calls him Eamonn." * Smithy smirks as Macca asks Nate to call him Macca. (*reminds me of someone else who left a voicemail for his mum on Killer In The Run 😉 *Cough* Dale! )
Smithy has been called to a disturbance at the youth club on the Jasmine Allen Estate. A girl from the club sold tickets for a non-existent raffle (bad print rejects from a raffle the year before) and when Mr Chadhar turned up for the draw he found the club closed and he's not very happy. Smithy dismisses the kids who were gathered around the argument and tries to help explain to Mr Chadhar that Macca - the man who runs the youth club - knows nothing about it, but he and Smithy will get to the bottom of it. They get him to accompany them on a drive around the estate to see if they can spot her.
Two guesses who it is...!
Tumblr media
Hello again, Carly! Carly does a runner before they can speak to her, so they run Mr Chadhar home and then return to give Carly a home visit. Sods law she lives right on the top floor of the block and the lifts are not working!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smithy tells Nate that Carly is bright and has potential. Nate chuckles. "Potential to move onto more serious crimes." "What happened to 'innocent before proven guilty?' After all that, Carly isn't home but her mother, Leanne Samuels arrives just after them. She's managed to make it up the stairs with a pushchair containing a 1 year old and her shopping and isn't out of breath unlike the two police officers 🤣. Smithy is surprised to learn that Brooke is Carly's daughter. He's also surprised to be handed her. "She likes men!" whilst Leanne answers the phone. Smithy definitely does not have a lot of experience with babies, much to Nate's amusement! 😂😂😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brooke does settle in his arms rather quickly to be fair! Carly returns home and the two officers corner her and ask her about the raffle. She's caught redhanded and Smithy is obviously disappointed in her. She insists the money was for her mum to get stuff for Brooke but she's already been shopping and the clothes and make up are definitely not for a 1 year old. Smithy and Nate have to take them - and Brooke - down to the station.
Leanne reasons with Smithy, telling him she has enough on her plate without Social Services getting involved. She trying to get Carly to grow up, but Smithy tells her he can't caution her as Mr Chadhar wants to take it further. He'll see if he can reason with him. Smithy gets Carly into a room with Mr Chadhar and Macca and returns the money and the tickets. She tells them she's very sorry for what she's done and will return the make up and clothes and donate the cash to the youth center. Macca agrees and she's banned from the club for one month as a punishment.
Smithy gives Carly an almost paternal telling off, warning her that she's at risk of Brooke going into care. He appears to have hit a nerve as Carly instantly jumps to the defensive and snaps back at him. Smithy's further disappointed and leads her straight back to Custody for a caution. He also tells Leanne that it is Carly's last chance - no more leniency if she gets called in again.

This is part one of an octology of episodes centered around Smithy, the Samuels' family and assorted friends/not-so-friends (putting it mildly!) of theirs. Over the last few months, Smithy has become quite fond of Carly as their paths have crossed in various ways and he's almost a little bit of a paternal figure towards her at times.
Smiffina Episodes: Witness Part 1 - Innocent Blood
Uniform are called to a house party at Carly's bestie's house Alesha "With 2 N's" Danniels that has gotten out of hand on the Jasmine Allen Estate. The doorman was Alesha's boyfriend, Tito Morientes. He has been stabbed but won't say who by, only "the money, the money." Smithy spots Carly sneaking out and questions her about what happened to Tito, realising it was her who called it in. She tells him that she saw a man argue with him. Alesha is in a state of shock, saying there was only meant to be 10 people present. As more backup arrives, Smithy tells them to shut down the party and he takes Carly's arm, telling Diane to come with him because Carly said she'd help them pick out the suspect. "When did I say that?!" Carly scowls. "Just now." Smithy says, leading her along to the car.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Why didn't I get an unlicensed mini cab? I could have been robbed or assaulted but at least I'd be home by now!" Carly's phone rings and she refuses the call, claiming it's an ex who doesn't know he's an ex yet. "Good!" Smithy glances back at her for a second. "A boyfriend would just distract you!" Carly spots the suspect and points him out to Smithy. "Right, I'm gonna have to get you out the car, but go straight home!" "Yes, Dad." Carly mocks with a sigh.
Unfortunately their suspect, Eric, is rather good at parkour and escapes onto the roof. "Not going to get after him then Sarge?" Diane quips. "Don't let me stop you." Smithy smirks, picking up the bag he's left behind that contains a reflective yellow vest. "He's half man, half goat!" Diane insists.
At Alesha's, Beth has found advertising that says it was a pay party and there's drug evidence. Alesha's father returns and is horrified at what has happened to his house. The locals on the estate are not exactly forthcoming with information either and a group of children set fire to things from Alesha's house in a pile in the middle of the estate. Nate follows one to his flat and knocks. The woman who answers it is very confused and claims her grandson is still in bed. She calls for him to come to see the officers. He appears, wearing his dressing gown and pretending to have just woken up. He's given away by his jogger bottoms falling down his leg. It becomes clear through the interview that Dennis is his grandma's carer and she isn't able to look after him and he hasn't been able to bathe in a while.
At the hospital, Smithy tells Emma that it was a pay party. There's no sign of the money on him when he reached hospital so they suspect the motive to be robbery. Emma thinks the scars on Tito's back have a definite pattern to them, potentially a gang sign. The knife is a craft knife, customised to have two blades instead of one so that it's harder for wounds to heal. Smithy finds Tito has a caution for possession of cannabis but the lad he was arrested with was a member of the Creekside Boys gang. Other than that, peoples opinion is that he's 'a good kid' but it is noted that his father threw him out of the house a few months ago.
Later, Tito insists he's fine, that it's just a scratch and no big deal. He claims he didn't see who did it despite the defensive wounds on his hands. His only description is that he was 'white'. He denies it's anything to do with the Creekside Boys. They track down his suspected attacker to a local rubbish tip where he works and are given his name and address by his boss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the canteen, uniform discuss "Noddy's Caravan" or rather a Community Social Hub on the Estate. Most mock the idea but Beth thinks it would really help because engaging with the residents makes them open up to them. She tells them a resident told her that the bullet holes on the ticket mean that it was Marlon Reed's party. Marlon is known to the police but also known for witness intimidation so the cases never get to court. He's also Carly's boyfriend.
Smithy goes to see Leanne and Carly at their new flat. Leanne explains that - thanks to Smithy - Carly has bucked her ideas up and is looking after Brooke herself and things have gotten better with Brooke's dad Dwayne. The downside is Marlon and his 'designer thugs' that are always present. Smithy and Marlon face off and Marlon insists he knows nothing about their suspect or the stabbing and claims that the tag on the invites is nothing to do with him as he hasn't used it for months. "Is that it?" "For now." Smithy growls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carly admits to Smithy that Marlon is a mistake and she doesn't want to be with him now she's realised what he's like. 'Marlon isn't someone you can just dump'. Smithy suggests she finds a nice accountant or librarian. She rolls her eyes and tells him that Tito will say he is a Creekside member but he isn't really, he only hangs around with them so others leave him alone as he is biding his time until he can get to college. Marlon isn't a member either and "does his own thing." Carly also tells him she feels guilty about the party. She'd let Marlon know he could come over with a few friends as her dad had agreed to 10 people. Tito was overwhelmed by the amount of people who rushed in and daren't say no. She thinks the money was for Tito's rent arrears and without it he's likely to get evicted from his council flat. The council tell Smithy the flat is actually listed as vacant. As Eric works for the council on the bins as well as living on the estate it's likely he knows which properties are vacant and could be subletting them illegally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When uniform arrive to arrest Eric they find Marlon is already beating him up with some thugs. Marlon is caught but Eric manages to get free and leads the officers on an elaborate race using his parkour skills that lasts for quite some time. At the end of it, Eric thinks he's outrun them all ... only to get slammed face first into a wall by Gina who arrests him. "Oooh hello!" She says to Smithy and Reg who appear over the wall and are literally gasping for breath. "I really hate running!" she snaps to Eric - despite being the only uniform officer on the estate who HASN'T been running after him. 😂
Tumblr media
Jo interviews Eric who claims he did nothing to Tito. He goes quiet when he realises they know about his rent scam. He then admits hitting Tito but has nothing to do with Tito's back and Marlon was only beating him up because the money he took was Marlon's.
Tumblr media
Nate flirts with a pharmacy assistant to get some information about the tablets that Dennis' gran is on. In doing so, he also scores a date. Vera is on serious medication for a number of conditions. She has seizures and is also very forgetful. Like Dennis, she also tries not to let on it's only the two of them. Nate suspects Dennis is setting fire to things as a cry for help and to release frustration. As they discuss it they have a call to a burning car he has gotten trapped in. Nate has to pull him out with seconds to spare before it explodes. At the station Nate tells Gina he's researched Dennis' parents. There's no sign of his father and his mother is in prison for another 18m. He's been looking after his gran alone for 2 years since he was 10. Gina tells him to look deeper into the family. Thankfully they track down Vera's brother who she dropped contact with when her daughter was sentenced out of embarrassment and he's keen to help. He's not the only one. Nate cancels his date, side steps a drink with Sally and goes to see Dennis after work on the quiet to make sure he's really ok and explains that everything's going to change for the better from now on.
CID update Smithy that Marlon is the most likely suspect as it's similar to another 'tag' that he uses. Marlon is brought in and plays the nice guy, insisting he only went to get the money back from Eric to give to Alesha to pay for the damage to the house.
Smithy goes to ask Carly why she identified Eric as Tito's attacker when she knows it was Marlon. She blames Smithy for making her care about other people, especially Brooke and her mum and points out that he can't protect her from Marlon for the rest of their lives. Smithy suggests if she can't/won't make a statement then she could give them a clue that could help them put Marlon away. She tells him she told the truth, she did see Eric and Tito arguing but she didn't tell him that Marlon got angry and took it out on Tito. She tells Smithy that Marlon's 'boys' held him down whilst Marlon slashed him. She also tells him the rough area to find proof. Back at the station, Jo and Grace take Tito's shoes to 'test for blood traces.' He's happy to hand them over... until he sees the police dog sniffing them for his scent to track as a cover for how they'll hopefully find the evidence. The dog - Sheila - alerts the handler to a blooded hoody discarded in a quiet corner. Emma bags it and before long, Sheila finds the knife. "Clever girl!" Jo smiles. "... It's all part of the job." Beth beams back before Jo clarifies she meant the dog.
Alesha subtly tells Jo and Grace that Tito is changing and hanging around with the gang more to the point he's given up one of his hobbies - football. They tell him they suspect Marlon but Tito insists not and won't be drawn even when they tell him that they know the stabbing was a 'tagging'. The detectives continue telling him that if he goes up against Marlon he will keep coming back again and again. He refuses to press charges and leaves the hospital with his 'crew.'
Marlon claims the hoody was stolen at the party. He shrugs off claims that the knife will have his fingerprints on because Tito won't press charges. Unfortunately Marlon gets bail. There's a strong uniform presence on the estate in case of reprisals. Smithy goes to give Carly the heads up. He promises her it'll be ok and that the forensics should tie in and Tito can still be called to court as a hostile witness. Carly closes the door so Leanne can't hear, telling Smithy that she's going to take Brooke and move away so that Marlon can't find her. Smithy's shocked but tells her he reluctantly understands, but not to change her mind about Marlon. She promises him she won't and that she'll send him a postcard when settled.
Gina and Smithy head up a briefing of a group who volunteered for overtime. They bring everyone up to date about Tito and Marlon and that they are going to be visible on the Jasmine Allen Estate for a long while incase war kicks off between the two groups. They also confirm that there will be a new community hub soon on the estate so residents can drop in with information, tip offs and get help.
Later, Smithy's not happy to see Carly heading towards Marlon and his friends, but she tells him she's only going to see Alesha to apologise for what happened. Marlon stakes his claim, waving to Smithy as he keeps his arm around Carly's waist.
The girls bust Nate's mission of mercy as they spot him leaving Dennis' flat whilst patrolling the estate on overtime. He tries to claim it's a coincidence but Dennis, his gran and great uncle grass him up by coming out to thank him and Dennis apologises for what he'd been doing. The girls tease him about his 'hot date' and Nate laughs but then grabs the girls and pulls them down with him as he thinks he hears gunshots but thankfully it's just Marlon's gang letting off loud fire crackers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They continue to watch as seconds later, a car pulls up. Two hands appear out the blackened windows, firing at least 9 shots at the group before speeding off. The gang scatters as Emma calls in with a partial index and Smithy speeds back. Carly is on the ground and Marlon is slumped, staring at her as all the officers arrive. He then gets to his feet, giving Carly one last look before pulling his head up and walking off (!) whilst Smithy drops to his knees to try save Carly.

Smiffina Episodes: Witness Part 2 - Wall Of Silence (2/8)
The episode opens with Smithy still working on Carly to try save her life whilst they wait for the ambulance. He removes his belt to use as a tourniquet for the bullet wound in her leg and keeps pressure on the wound on her neck. Carly asks about Brooke and Smithy reassures her that she's safe at home and he's going to look after her [Carly].
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He goes with Carly to St Hughes when the ambulance arrives, leaving Neil to hold court at the scene. Smithy holds her hand in the ambulance and reassures her that she's OK and asks if she saw who shot her. She's dazed and confused and doesn't register much, asking Smithy 'do I get rid of it?' before falling unconscious.
Uniform find the dark blue Audi involved in the shooting well alight with Gina sending the fire brigade and SOCCO to the scene in a futile attempt to recover some forensics. Beth tells Neil the shots were fired from the back and front passenger windows facing the gang. Noone else was hit and everyone else - including Marlon Reed - has disappeared. They're not sure if Carly was the intended target or if Marlon was but Carly was in the way given that he was charged for maliciously wounding Tito Morientes the day before. Diane is at the cordon taking down names and addresses of potential witnesses. One man in particular, Maurice Thompson, is really into it all and seems almost excited, asking lots of questions about the CID and SOCCO officers.
Carly has woken at the hospital as she's rushed into RESUS, "Smithy?" she whispers. "Don't go..." He assures her he's not going anywhere as Carly falls unconscious again. Smithy clings to her hand, squeezing it and begging her to stay with him. He only lets go when she has to be shocked. He is near to tears as the medics declare Carly's time of death. As they do, Leanne arrives and asks what has happened with Smithy only able to tell her "I'm sorry'. Beth squeezes Smithy's arm in support as Leanne collapses over her daughters body, sobbing her name.
The next morning, Tito is nowhere to be found. Smithy and Gina are in a CID briefing as everyone collates what they know so far. Jo tells them the strongest theory shared by those they've spoken to is that it was revenge for Tito's attack. Smithy asks what it has to do with Carly and Neil gently tells him they've heard it two ways - Marlon was the target and Carly got caught or Carly was shot as Marlon's girlfriend to 'teach him a lesson'. They don't yet have the evidence for arrests but Neil urges them to try find Tito and Marlon to ask them what they know - but not to make it a vendetta. As the meeting is dismissed, Gina makes a very reluctant Smithy Leanne's FLO.
The Community Support Unit has arrived on the Jasmine Allen and - to the amusement of the other officers - Beth brings Harry (the dog from Killing Me Softly) to be a 'Community Liaison Dog'. Nate quickly changes his mind when he realises just how popular Harry is with the ladies on the estate!
Smithy takes Leanne to visit Carly's body. He tells her it's probably best not to touch her but Leanne insists the doctors, paramedics and Smithy touched her and there's no way she's letting Carly go without showing her love. She tells Smithy that 'people' have told her it was Tito and demands he's punished. Smithy gently explains it's for the court to decide. She doesn't care who it is - she wants him punished. She asks when she can bury her and regretfully Smithy has to explain about the coroner and a post mortem. He leaves her alone for a few seconds and has to step outside where Gina has come to see him. She shows him two tickets to Bournemouth that she found in Carly's coat pocket. "... For her and Marlon?" he blinks, confused after what Carly said to him about not changing her mind about him.
Marlon tells Jo he knows nothing about the shooting and that he didn't stab Tito so it can't be him he came after. Jo clearly doesn't believe him and points out that he was charged for it and questions what sort of man leaves his dying girlfriend in the street and walks away? He simply repeats that he saw nothing and has nothing to say.
Smithy walks Leanne back to her flat, gently asking her if she knew why Carly had tickets to Bournemouth. Leanne shrugs saying maybe she was taking Carly to the seaside and is distracted by Brooke crying as her dad, Dwayne, wheels the pram towards them. Smithy introduces himself and tells him he's the point of contact for him and Leanne with the police if there's anything they want to ask. Dwayne asks Smithy if he knows who did it yet, Smithy tells him unfortunately not but they will get them.
Smithy watches as Alesha returns to the estate, moving to protect her from Marlon and his cronies who crowd her and ask where Tito is. She tells him she doesn't know where Tito is, only that he's 'somewhere safe' and that if he calls again she'll tell him to speak to the police.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heaton, Neil and Gina hold a public meeting on the Jasmine Allen about the gangs and the shooting. It's rowdy and the residents are not in a forgiving or helpful mood towards the police, though as Leanne arrives it falls silent. Alesha's dad tells Heaton that if he wants help from the community he has to do something for the community.
Diane and Nate are trying to find garages who specialise in window tinting to ask if they knew anything about the blue Audi that was involved in the shooting. The second garage has Maurice Thompson working in it. He tells her that he tinted the windows of a car matching that description himself, it was a cash job done by a skinny black guy in his 20's. At the station he tells Jo and Grace that he didn't see any of the shooting because he saw one of the people who was on the pavement in Marlon's gang pull a gun out so he immediately hit the deck to avoid getting hit in the exchange of gunfire. Grace tells him that no one else - including the three officers present - have mentioned an exchange of gunfire and suggests he heard about what was going to happen from the owner of the car and went to watch. He shrugs and says he knew the man was a pimp because he'd seen him down by the garage 'with his girls' and that Carly was one of them and likely was shot because she was pregnant and trying to leave the street work. He claims another street girl, Yolanda, told him and that the pimp is called Beckton.
Tito arrives at the station to speak to CID. Grace takes Alesha aside and speaks to her alone after he claims that she's his alibi. She asks her if she's there under duress and Alesha shakes her head and tells her she's just scared as Marlon's cronies have issued death threats against Tito. Tito tells Jo he wasn't at the scene, nor was he in the car and that he was with Alesha at the time watching television. He refuses to allow them to take a cheek swab or his fingerprints. Jo says she'll arrest him for suspicion of murder if he doesn't. He agrees to do it voluntarily - as they have to destroy it if it doesn't match the evidence they're testing it against. Tito remains cocky whilst Jo processes him, asking how Marlon is after being shot at. Jo remains calm and asks him 'who said it was Marlon they were shooting at?' before staring at him for a few seconds and thanking him for his co-operation.
Smithy refutes the claims that Carly was a prostitute or that she was pregnant. The PM results aren't in yet so they still don't know either way for the pregnancy. Neil asks Smithy to ask Leanne if she knows anything about the pregnancy/prostitution claims. Smithy says he will, but Leanne will not like it. In the kitchen, Leanne is clearly not with it as she's drying the same glass over and over again whilst staring into space. Smithy tactfully asks her if she knows if Carly was pregnant, telling her also that one of the last things she said was 'Should I get rid of it?' Leanne is horrified that he'd even ask, thinking he is insinuating something against Carly. He promises her that he's not but the investigation can sometimes throw up surprises and that they have to be open with each other. He apologises for offending her and excuses himself, leaving Leanne to come to terms with her shock and what he's said.
Sally finds Nate flirting with a blonde in the CSU, though it does appear as though Harry - and Nate - have done the business as the witness has reported seeing the audi doing a recce of the area before 8pm. Nate manages to find the CCTV that shows the car was tinted on the estate itself and soon after they find the evidence of a tinting kit discarded by the bins.
Dwayne is furious that Jo and Grace would ask Carly was a prostitute and immediately shuts it down with a firm no. He admits there's a chance she could be pregnant but the problem all started when Tito brought Creekside boys to Marlon's pay party, it's nothing to do with prostitution or a potential baby. He reluctantly tells them that Marlon is a drug producer and that he stole the Creekside Boys customers. They arrived at the party to 'deal with Marlon' but he bought them off. He refuses to stand up in court and put his name to any of it though out of fear for himself, Brooke and Leanne. He says at the time of the shooting he was at home with Brooke and that she is his only witness.
Uniform obtain a warrant for a search at Marlon Reed's mothers house where Dwayne told them that Marlon 'cooks up' his drugs. They find the evidence to support this behind a padlocked door upstairs. Gina issues the alert to all units to arrest Marlon on sight as Marlon's horrified mother returns home, demanding to know what they're doing in her home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alesha comes running to find Smithy in the CSU on the estate, telling him Leanne had a slanging match with Marlon, accusing him of getting her pregnant. Marlon has now gone off looking for Tito, threatening to kill him. Smithy manages to get Tito's work place location from her and they go to try and find him before Marlon does with Grace the closest. As Grace gets out of her car, she hears gunshots and puts on her bulletproof vest before trying to locate Marlon and Tito. She finds him beating Tito and pointing a gun at him. Alone and unarmed, she shouts to him to distract him and try talk him down. Marlon scoffs and shoots in her direction, holding Tito around his neck. He makes him kneel in front of him with the gun at his head, telling him he not only killed his girlfriend but also his baby. Smithy and Diane arrive next and move around the other side of the container Grace is hiding behind. Marlon asks Tito if it was him and if he knew about the baby. Tito sobs out that he didn't know but admits he was there and that he was driving and it was Creekside boys in the car. He asks him who it was and tells him again it's his last chance. Grace shouts to Marlon to give himself up with Marlon distracted enough to point the gun in her direction and shout for her to appear. He shoots at her again just as Smithy appears and wrestles the gun from him. Grace arrests Tito for being involved in the murder of Carly.
In interview, Tito claims that he only admitted to being the driver of the car because he was in fear of his life. He told him the truth that he wasn't there and Marlon didn't believe him. He insists he lied to stay alive. He smirks at Grace as he's taken back to his cells. Smithy asks to be allowed to sit in on the interview with Marlon as he wants to know if Carly was involved in the drugs deals given she had tickets to Bournemouth on him and Dwayne said Bournemouth was where Marlon went to do his deals before he took over the Creekside Boys patch. Neil refuses, pointing out Smithy has a different set of priorities so Smithy lets himself into the viewing area next door. Marlon is his cocky self, insisting he won't name anyone but he insists Carly couldn't be told what to do as chances are she'd just go and do the opposite out of pure obstinance. Gina finds Smithy and stands with him in the viewing area, trying to support him. Marlon is asked if he went to Bournemouth with Carly and if they transported drugs. He says he didn't... but he can't speak for her. Smithy squares up to him asking if Carly was a willing courier or if he forced her - Neil forces both apart and dismisses Smithy who is already ashamed of his behaviour 'I can't remember the last time I did that.'
Tito is bailed and tells Jo he's a victim and doesn't want anymore of their harassment and "next time don't be so quick to arrest." Jo just shrugs. "I'm glad we agree on one thing, Tito. That there'll be another time."
The post mortem on Carly confirms that there were two weapons as the bullet lodged in Carly's neck is a different calibre to the casings found inside the car. It also confirms that she wasn't pregnant and that Maurice Thompson was bulling them along the entire time. This in turn lead to Smithy asking Leanne if Carly was pregnant, which lead to her face off with Marlon which then lead to him taking Tito hostage. Neil and Heaton insist that Maurice is arrested and charged with wasting police time. He scoffs that Carly 'was just a gangbanger' with Grace angrily retorting that he clearly knows nothing about her and that he is a liar who simply made up stories to be part of the circus around her death.
Smithy tells Alesha that they will find out if Tito was really driving the car and that Carly was carrying drugs for Marlon. Alesha insists that Carly wasn't. When they went to Bournemouth, Marlon put drugs in Brooke's pushchair and Carly knew nothing about it until they got there and she went mad. She wasn't going back to Bournemouth, she only took those tickets because she didn't want Marlon to be suspicious or start asking questions. She was really going to go to Sheffield because Alesha had gotten her a job in a hairdressers. Smithy asks for her cousins number. The cousin confirms it and asks when Carly will be arriving to start... Smithy has to tell her that Carly was murdered.
Smithy then goes on to speak to Leanne and tells her that Tito has been released and is claiming he wasn't in the car. He admits that Sun Hill believe he was but they have to find the proof for it and they do have his DNA to test against any recovered from the car. He tells her she was running for Marlon - without her knowledge - and that she wasn't pregnant but he has to censor what he tells her because she puts it out into the community which causes problems for the case. He tells her that she was going to leave London because of Marlon 's drug dealing and Leanne refuses to believe it. She claims that Smithy is telling her her daughter was a drug dealer who was about to leave her. He insists he isn't and that he thought she'd find it a comfort to know that she was trying to get away from Marlon. Leanne just shouts at him to leave, throwing him out of her house. In the face of Leanne's grief, anger and upset, Smithy can do nothing else but as she asks, reluctantly leaving the flat.
