I managed to rip the 3D models from Mario Golf 64 and Mario Tennis 64! So I decided to arrange them all by height, from smallest to tallest! I also included Mario and Peach for height comparisons.
And here are my thoughts: -I had trouble determining the heights of Kid, Mario, Nina, and Alex. I thought Kid would be smaller without his hat, but I could also see him being taller than Nina. It's hard to say. -Sherry's a lot taller than I thought she was! -I thought Maple was taller than Plum, but she's actually a bit shorter than her! -On that note, I thought Plum was as tall as Sherry. To see she's about as tall as Princess Daisy was a surprise! -I thought Kate was around Azalea's height. -How funny that the tallest individuals are both named Harry!
Sorry that they lack textures! I'm still new to this, and don't know how to do that. ^^;;

Nina's a young girl training to be an ace athlete at the Royal Tennis Academy. Volleyball may not be the best place to hone her tennis skills, but any bit of training helps! She can launch explosive tennis balls with Jump Swing, and calls her pet dog to help with her Super Spike!

Serious question: should the "lore" of the Mario games affect if they count for the Super Mario series? For example, the only convincing argument I know for why Yoshi's Island counts is because it's the origin of Mario and his brother Luigi, his first contact with Yoshi, and his first confrontation with Bowser. And while characters in the Super Mario series have their debut in Mario games that are non-Super (Toadette appearing in Double Dash before her cameo Galaxy and playable in Deluxe/Wonder, etc), these are substantial elements to Mario's mythology. (I know this question might come off as a joke, but I am being sincere).
you're right this does sound like a joke
mario games have almost never cared about their lore. whenever a game establishes some fact that fans interpret as having lore implications, it's rare for it to ever have the opportunity to be contradicted in later games, so there's a lot of fanon built out of confirmation bias. yoshi's island certainly is an origin story for mario and luigi, but it's not necessarily the origin story.
but on the subject of characters! this is actually something I've put a lot of thought into and plan on discussing in how many Super Mario games are there part 2 (please get all your friends to take that survey if you want to see this project completed!), but let's briefly explore this line of reasoning.
let's take it as an axiom that SMBW is mainline. let's also declare that any game which introduced a named playable character in a mainline game is also mainline, for lore reasons. (specifying "named" here so we don't have to worry about the specific different color yoshis and toads. the implications of including them as part of this are left as an exercise for the reader.)
so then, we have:
Mario: Donkey Kong (arcade)
Luigi: Mario Bros. (Game & Watch)
Peach, Toads: Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Daisy: Super Madio Land (Game Boy)
Yoshis: Super Mario World (SNES)
Toadette: Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GameCube)
Nabbit: New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)
now, most of these games don't have any playable characters that aren't themselves also playable in SMBW, but double dash has quite a few! ignoring all the ones that are from games we've already established as mainline, there's:
Catherine: Doki Doki Panic (NES)
Toad (arguably): Super Mario USA (NES)
Wario: Super Mario Land 2 (Game Boy)
Diddy Kong (arguably also Donkey Kong): Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Baby Mario, Baby Luigi: Yoshi's Island (SNES)
Waluigi: Mario Tennis (Nintendo 64)
King Boo: Luigi's Mansion (GameCube)
Bowser Jr., Petey Piranha: Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube)
the lore implications of including doki doki panic as canon are pretty significant, but let's sidestep that by counting catherine as being from mario 2 usa instead. the big one here is mario tennis, which gets us:
Donkey Kong Jr.: Donkey Kong Jr. (arcade)
Shy Guy: Doki Doki Panic again
Boo: Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Alex, Harry, Nina, and Kate: Mario Tennis (GBC)
and that's finally a dead end. all the playable characters in mario tennis (GBC) are either from games already covered or original to that game.
anyway look at all these Implications! so many games get grandfathered in Just from this idea that "a game that establishes a character who would later be playable in a mainline game counts as mainline". and like, you certainly could say that all of these games are important enough to the lore of mario to count as mainline. but from what I can tell this is categorically not how most people classify mario games

I absolutely hate it when people depict Luigi as a twig because in my opinion, it could be argued that he's as big as Mario. Nintendo has definitely made him slimmer as time goes on, but back in the day that wasn't the case at all!
A really good example are these renders from Mario Tennis, so summer of 2000. Hell, in these renders Luigi almost looks more round than Mario, but that's definitely because he's stretching and the angle of the render. But I still think it holds up as a perfect example of Luigi being far from skinny.
These two renders from the same game are also a very good example. Luigi's stomach hangs low just like Mario's! These renders also really show how Mario is rounder and shorter, while Luigi being taller streches his stomach out!
But even with these renders in place Nintendo was still pretty inconsisten. This official art work from Mario Tennis for the GBC, which released in late 2000 - early 2001 depending where you live, depicts Luigi as not only slim, but also as freakishly tall for seemingly no reason? He looks so awkward here? He's so lanky and his limbs are so long. It looks unnatural. It's almost as if he was drawn, then stretched out in post. They did him so dirty. I absolutely hate it. At least Mario looks okay, but I feel like one could argue that it isn't very on par with his previous renders and official art.
And finally we have these two beauty's, which Nintendo has overused to DEATH! The renders on the left are from roughly 2015 while the one's on the right are from roughly 2012. They're very similar so I won't get to carried away, but with rhe render on the right, Luigi's stomach doesn't pop out as much as Mario's. While with the render on the left, we have another scenario where it could be argued his size is very similar to his brothers.
I know there are so many more examples, but I think I've made my point. Overall, Nintendo has been very inconsistent with Luigi's weight when it really shouldn't be that hard at all. Like, look at any of the official art produced by AlphaDream, all of it has this poor boy looking like a twig!
I feel like because he's taller than Mario, it gives off the illusion he's a lot thinner even when he isn't. I just hope Nintendo doesn't forget that Luigi does in fact have some weight to him.

Mario Tennis GBC is really good but I wish I was able to play it with people because once you get good enough at the game every interaction is either 'drop shot -> hit it the other way' or just plain drop shot. Or you're playing doubles and your dumbfuck partner commits to the longest rally in tennis history.

Chase Koeneke's Top 25 Game Boy & Game Boy Color Games
The final part in GOTG's GB & GBC Top 25 coverage, make sure you check out my good friend Giggy's list, as well as the shared list we made together on the most recent episode of the podcast.
While the NES was my very first brush with video games, it wasn’t until the Game Boy that I truly fell in love with gaming. For a kid who got taken on a lot of long car trips, it was a godsend (both to me, but probably even more so to my parents, who could drive in relative peace). I dumped hundreds of hours into many of these games, and some of them continue to rank within my all-time favorites.
25. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
24. Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble
23. Pokemon Pinball
22. Tiny Toons Adventures: Babs’ Big Break
21. Metal Gear Solid (Ghost Babel)
20. Shantae
19. Harvest Moon 3 GBC
18. Balloon Kid
17. Mario’s Picross
16. Mole Mania
15. Mega Man V
14. Super Mario Land
13. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
12. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
11. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
10. Mario Tennis
I’m not usually a big sports game guy. I find the ways devs abstract a sport through mechanics interesting, but often, their efforts fall short. I’d prefer to just hitting the batting cages than play Game Boy Baseball, y’know? But that’s not the case with Mario Tennis. Camelot aced this one, with simple, responsive controls that offered hidden depth in its strategic play. And the light RPG elements let you shape your character to better fit your play style (then import that character into the N64 incarnation!)
9. Warlocked
I didn’t grow up with a PC, so the real-time strategy genre was always something of a mystery to me. Warlocked was the first RTS I ever got my hands on, and while I can’t say it’s a particularly glowing example of the genre, the fact it even works on a Game Boy Color is astonishing to me. I ran the wheels off this game, playing through both its campaigns and collecting all the colorful wizard characters (Sweatwiz for life!)
8. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Zelda continues to not be my thing, but the Oracle games are generally my favorites of the entire franchise (which feels wrong since they’re made by Capcom). Of the pair, I prefer Seasons’ mechanics. Plus, I really love exploring Subrosia — a volcanic land sitting right below the overworld — and interacting with its Jawa-looking residents. Most people are going to prefer Link’s Awakening, and that’s fine, but for my money, Oracle of Season is the way to go.
7. Donkey Kong ’94
It’s unfair how good this game is. The movement tech Mario can achieve is unreal, and it forever changed the way we think about Mario’s moveset. If you’ve ever enjoyed the triple jumps of Super Mario 64 or the cap throwing and diving of Mario Odyssey, you have DK ’94 to thank for inspiring it all. This game takes the original arcade game, and expands it into one of the greatest puzzle-platformers of all time.
6. Tetris
It’s Tetris. I mean, what else needs to be said? Later versions have added slight tweaks to the formula in the form of T-spins or holding pieces that make them arguably better, but whenever I want to play some Tetris, this is always the one I reach for.
5. Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Creator Masahiro Sakurai has said the original Kirby’s Dream Land is all about introducing people to what a platform game is. Dream Land 2, in my opinion, is about introducing you to what they can be. The copy abilities brought in from Kirby’s Adventure are expanded threefold with the addition of Kirby’s animal companions, and the music from the battle with King Dedede still bangs. This will forever be my favorite Kirby game.
4. Mario Golf
I gushed about Mario Tennis above, but it can feel repetitive at times as you play set after set on nearly-identical courts. Mario Golf brings in everything good about Tennis (the RPG elements, character importing, great controls) and applies it to a sport that naturally has a little more variety through its courses, challenging you to approach them in different ways. Pick up both if you can, but if you only have room for one, Golf is the way to go.
3. Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
The second generation of Pokemon games add so much to the series, both from a mechanical perspective with new types, held items, additional HM moves, breeding and more. But maybe more importantly, Gold, Silver and Crystal surprise and delight in a way that make you feel like you’re in a living and breathing world. It can be annoying for those going back to the games now, but having a real-time day and night cycle affecting the Pokemon you could catch felt revolutionary. And weekly events like the bug-catching contest or a Lapras that only appeared on certain days made you want to explore (and re-explore) every area in the game. Last, but certainly not least, going back to Kanto in the postgame continues to be one of the coolest surprises a game can throw at you.
2. Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
…But even if all of the above is true, it’s not the original. Red, Blue and Yellow, while often a broken, buggy mess, got so much right on their first try. I think a lot of it is the sense of ownership I got through playing. When you pick up a Mario or a Zelda game, you’re playing as those characters, escaping into their shoes. With Pokemon, those were my shoes, and the creatures beside me were ones I raised and trained. It was all my adventure. And that made it all the more special.
1. Pokemon Trading Card Game
There’s something about card games though. All my Pokemon card friends just wanted to collect them, to keep them in binders and show them off. I always wanted to play the actual game, but would never have anyone to play against. That is, until this came out. Now I had a bevy of computer opponents to face off with, and every win would grant me the dopamine rush of ripping open virtual card packs to further enhance my decks. Even if the card game its based on is a little unbalanced, it’s still one of my favorite games ever, and my favorite Game Boy title of all-time.

Do u headcanon that all of the humans from The Camelot Mario Sports games live in the mushroom kingdom or the very least, the towns within them like Rose Town for example ? I headcanon that they do, especially the ones from the golf games since they have a Mario -esque look to them.
For the Mario Golf 64 cast, I certainly believe that to be the case. My main reason for doing so is because:
-Plum is said to be a novice at golf. -Charlie only recently got into Golf because his friends were into it. (I believe this was said in the Japanese instruction manual, iirc) -The handheld Mario Golf games reveal that, in order to compete in Mario World, you have to be considered one of the best. -This should go without saying, but Mario Tennis also has this same stipulation. -Plum is seen hanging out with Mario, Luigi, and Peach in the game's opening despite being a novice.
So yeah, I totally see them as residents of the Mushroom Kingdom, if not somewhere close nearby.
As for why we don't see them, it's likely the same reason why we didn't see Waluigi hanging out at the Star Festival in Super Mario Galaxy, despite the implication that he lives in the Mushroom Kingdom. They're likely there, but we just don't happen to see them during Mario's adventures.
As for the handheld Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and Mobile Golf casts...
I like to headcanon them as living at - or near - New Donk City. Part of that is because I thought it would be cool if Pauline was the mayor of the obscure Mario characters. Kind of like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in the game, Epic Mickey. (You're familiar with that, right?) To me, that's much better than "the Mario Golf & Mario Tennis humans live in an alternate dimension Earth."
And considering that Pauline herself was a rather obscure character herself before Odyssey helped put her back on the map, it all felt very fitting.
Hope that answers your question!

The fifth one of these.
* Charlie and Euphie being friends? They’ve certainly got the right personalities for it.
* This is what happens when I give Mario Tennis (GBC) a spin when my brain is in “add tomgirl” mode. Somewhere in my mind palace is a prestigious sports academy with an all-tomgirl division, and this young man got roped into it.
* Jiangsu and Jambalaya, with the passenger train necessary to access the campus in the background. I tried a different technique for rendering trees here.
* All of the angels (bar Jubileus and the seraphs) are siblings, but it doesn’t typically come up unless an angel has someone they’re particularly close to. Vehuiah and Nanael are two such angels.
* I hadn’t drawn Lawrence’s or Zaelnil’s werewolf forms yet. (This whole row was gonna be wolves, but there wouldn’t have been enough space for the whole team)
* A random character for what could end up being Megaman by way of Aristasia.
