Marine Coatings Market Analysis: Global Overview
Antifouling Coatings One of the most important coatings used in marine applications is antifouling coatings. These coatings are applied to the hulls of ships and boats to prevent biofouling, which is the unwanted accumulation of microorganisms, algae, plants, and animals on wet surfaces. Biofouling can have significant detrimental effects if left untreated as it increases drag, decreases fuel efficiency, and affects maneuverability. Traditional antifouling coatings contained biocides like tributyltin (TBT) which leached from the coating into the surrounding seawater to deter biological growth. While very effective, these TBT-based antifoulings posed environmental and health risks. As a result, the International Maritime Organization banned the use of TBT-based antifoulings worldwide in 2008. Modern antifouling coatings now rely on alternative biocides or biocide-free mechanisms to prevent slime and organism accumulation. Copper-based antifoulings are now one of the most common alternatives as copper is a naturally occurring element that marine life encounters. The copper leaches slowly from the coating and acts as a biocide at low concentrations safely. Other non-biocide mechanisms involve foul-release and fouling-release coatings, which create very slick surfaces that marine organisms struggle to adhere to. The coating periodically "sloughs off" any organisms that start to attach. Overall, the goal of modern antifouling coatings is to provide effective hull protection while minimizing environmental impact. Anticorrosion Coatings In addition to preventing biofouling, marine coatings play a critical role in protecting a ship's steel hull and other metal components from corrosion due to seawater exposure. Left uncoated, steel readily corrodes when submerged in seawater which contains dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide, and chloride salts. The main types of marine anticorrosion coatings are anticorrosive primers and topcoats. Epoxy and polyurethane coatings are commonly used anticorrosive primers that form a protective barrier on the metal surface, disrupting the corrosion process. Topcoats are then applied over primers to provide additional physical, mechanical, and aesthetic protection. Popular topcoats include further epoxy coats, chlorinated rubber, and acrylic coatings. Specialized Coatings Beyond generic hull and anticorrosion coatings, specialized marine coatings serve various other functions. Tank coatings applied to cargo oil tanks, ballast tanks, and fuel tanks assist in corrosion protection and help prevent contamination. Due to cargo compatibility concerns, different tank coating chemistries may be selected depending on the types of fluids being stored or transported. Additionally, many vessels require scrubber coatings. These physically robust coatings line exhaust gas desulfurization (EGD or "scrubber") systems that remove sulfur oxides from engine exhaust to comply with emissions regulations. Scrubber coatings must withstand the corrosiveness of seawater and chemical cleaning agents used in the scrubbing process. Epoxy and silicon-based coatings tend to work well in these highly demanding environments. Successful coatings receive certification from classification societies like Lloyd's Register verifying they meet procurement specifications. Examples are Lloyd's Register Certificates for fitness of antifouling coatings or NORSOK M-501 for offshore structures. With thorough R&D testing and certifications, marine coatings manufacturers can provide assurance their products will maintain maximum performance and lifetime when used for their intended purpose.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was a rainy day on Dungwit Island where you lived, when a giant pirate ship came to town. It wasn't so rare to come across pirates where you lived, so when you saw that a new group had come strolling in naturally you were very excited. "Pirates!" A few people gasped that word like it was poison. You smiled to yourself because of their reactions because you saw your next meal coming from these men. You didn't fear them.
You'd eyed the pirate ship a few moments more as you moved towards the dock to get some information on who they might be, where they came from. Obviously somebody there must have a bounty on their head based on the reaction of the villagers that stared at their flag with shocked faces. You approach one of the villagers to ask what they knew about the captain of the ship, making sure to swing your hips so you could seduce him enough to talk.
You walk in front of the man and you place your hand on your hip looking up at him with a sweet smile. "Hey there big guy!" You say to the older white man, he was balding and his physique was actually big. He wore tattered fisherman clothing and he was missing a canine. "Who? Me?" The man asks looking down at you with his chest puffed up like he was ready to fight. You give a flirty smile and you reach up to rub his stubby chin, "yeah you! What do you know about those pirates that just landed? Why is everyone so nervous?"
You continue stroking his chin watching his face contort into that of lustful comfort. He probably hasn't had a woman touch him in years! No wonder he was getting all aroused because of your touch. "Aye, I'm just a fisherman little lady," his laugh rumbles like a drum, "but I've seen that strawhat before! There's this pirate out there that has that hat, I can't remember his name, but I've seen him on a bunch of flyers! He's popular. Which means he must have a big bounty on him."
You nod, furrowing your eyebrows and squinting your eyes, trying to make it seem as though you really cared. "I barely got a look at them, but there's a redheaded woman and a green haired man that came out the ship with them." Excellent! "Thank you for sharing~" you tell the stranger with a cheeky smile. "Oh! Before I leave you, where did you see them go?" You asked the stranger. The man rubbed his own chin, "oh uh into the market! Be careful though, one of them has swords. I think he's a swordsman!" Well that couldn't be more obvious now huh?
You tried to not react with a negative face as you turned and walked towards the market. Finally, the real deal! There was bound to be a marine ship near if these pirates are here, because where there are pirates often times there are also marines! You couldn’t wait to get somebody's head in a bag so you could collect some berries! Even if it were 200.
Far ahead you spotted two heads, a redhead and a green haired man, but no strawhat. The rain had increased and you didn't want to get soaked so you went into the nearest little restaurant for shelter. Somebody had to leave an umbrella or a coat lying around, so you were gonna steal one. They could always get a new one! The moment you turned to the right to see the racks of umbrellas and coats that was out in the open you bumped heads with a boy.
'Geez. Talk about hard headed!' Was your first thoughts on that interaction. "Ow." You and the boy say at the same time, except you said it in lowercase and him all caps. "Sorry there! I was looking for a seat and I didn't see you!! My apologies!" The boy yells with a silly bright smile on his face. You couldn't find the right emotions to describe how you felt looking into his light brown eyes.
"It's okay." You return the smile quickly walking away and heading to the clothes. You had to find those two people you saw earlier, you were sure they probably disappeared by now because of this hold up. "GIVE ME MORE MEAT!!" You heard the boy yell in the background. "He's so loud you could hear him from 3 sheds away."
Your sticky hands grab on to a nice looking coat that must have been 400 berries and you wrap yourself in it, leaving the restaurant quickly so you can find the strangers. They were bound to lead you to that strawhat pirate, most likely their captain. The rain increased and clouded your eyes making it hard to see. You rubbed your eyes and walked ahead to the last place you saw those two and saw nothing. There wasn't a trace of them.
"Excuse me ma'am?" You asked a passing young woman, "have you seen two people with red and green hair walking together?" She nods, "oh yes! The strange duo! They just left that shop over there," she points to a little shop that had cloth. "I think I heard them say something about leaving."
Oh great! You groan and you run from the market heading back to their ship. Not them leaving! You just got back to trailing them! When you got back to the docks you saw their ship leaving and you got nervous. What if the bounty was really big? Like 5000 berries? Capturing one of them dead or alive would be good money!
You run up to the edge of the bridge as they were in departure and you jumped on to a hanging rope they had! People weren't around so they didn't see you. You grip on to the rope tightly, putting your shoes on the boat and tightening your grip as you scaled the ship. "That bounty has gotta be miraculous." You say to yourself with a smile.
When you're up high enough, you pull yourself into the ship and you land on your back, hard. There was talking a few seconds ago when you were climbing, so their sudden silence made you worried. You shrug, you're not gonna be too worried though! How much were there? Three? You could take em.
You get up off the floor and you hide behind the closest pole, hearing some footsteps walk out and pause, followed by a voice. "Did something fall Zoro?!" "No!" Okay two voices! The footsteps retreated and a door closed. You sighed with relief and walked out from behind the pole. Ready or not captain! Here you come.
You sneak over to the door the man 'Zoro' was at and you peek inside to see a warmly lit room followed by smiling faces. There was food set on the table, everyone around raised a glass to the sky and clinked them! "Haha! To Luffy for defeating that bastard Arlong!!" The crew was celebrating.
You counted at five of them. Not three. Five. Let's take a breather. You back away from the door and you lean against the wall with a worried face. There wasn't three pirates on this ship, there are five. What the hell are you gonna do up against five of them?
You began having second thoughts now on if you should still attempt to capture somebody, dead or alive. There is a chance it could be the other way around and your life was on the line. Unfortunately for you when you turned to just leave the ship the door opened and out walked that green haired man. "If you step out of the dark now, quietly and cooperate, I won't kill you." You squeak at his sudden appearance and on the fact that he knows you're there!
You take a step out with your hands tightly by your side, ready to take action, fight or flight. The green haired man folded his arms with no reaction. "See! I told you guys someone was here!" Out came the other crewmates, one of them, a black boy, seemed terrified until he saw it was just one person and that it was a girl. "Oh! It's just a woman! Don't worry guys the great captain Usopp will protect you against this feeble creature!" "Feeble?!" You pulled out your guns that were strapped on your thighs hidden beneath your flowy f/c skirt. "Oh she's got weapons!!" Usopp shrieked going back behind the red haired woman.
Everyone looked at him with a blank stare, like they expected that to happen. Before the green haired man could say another word a boy with a strawhat came walking from behind him to the front. "Zoro, don't." He says with his eyes looking at her deeply. "Oh I know this woman!" The boy cheers, "she's the one I told you guys about! The head bumper! Zoro lower your swords!" The boy scolds the green haired man, whose name you learnt was Zoro.
You raise your eyebrow at this boy trying to rack your brain. Oh yes! You do remember him too! He bumped into your head! "You bumped into me." You corrected him. "Ah! We bumped each other!" The boy cheers. "What are you doing on my ship?" You mentally facepalmed. THIS was the strawhat pirate you were gonna kill first and you had him right at your fingertips!
"I'm here to collect your head pirate!" You tell him with your best serious face. The red haired girl laughed lowly and you gave her a dirty stare. "What's so funny?" She shrugs, "there's five of us and one of you. Do you even know who you're dealing with?" "Yeah we're the strawhat pirates! You don't know us! We defeated Arlong!!" Usopp chimed in. "Quiet." The girl told him. "Sorry!-" he apologized quickly.
You scoffed at their claims. "I don't care if you've killed thousands of marines before! I'm here to collect somebody's head here! Seeing that you're all behind this strawhat boy that would mean he's your captain, which means he has a bounty on him and it must be large." The boy smiles cheek to cheek. "You want my head?" You feel your heart thug because of his smile lines.
"Y-yeah?" "She fumbled." The red haired girl states the obvious walking away. You felt so embarrassed now! Your face was burning up with shame. You cock the gun and you aim it her way, "hey don't move!!" You threatened, "if you move I'll shoot!!" Everyone looked at each other and their captain raises his hands. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
You stared at him with determination. "Don't test me." Zoro and Usopp step back, while the red haired girl and the blonde were in the back as well, he seemed to have his arm tightly around her waist. "Don't worry Nami I won't let a bullet touch you." He told her with an angry look in his eye. Nami, the girl with the red hair seemed so unfazed. "Yeah, thanks Sanji I know. Hey Luffy!" She calls to her captain, "yeah?!" Luffy calls back not breaking eye contact with you. His smile never left, like he was really tempting you to try your look. "Hurry up and end this." "You betcha!!"
You felt ignored and disrespected. You had a gun pointed at these fools! Who were they to act as though you weren't a threat! "Don't brush me off like some bug!!" You yelled at them; you shot two bullets at them at random, kind of aiming at their captain Luffy, yet aiming at Sanji and Zoro at the same time. Immediately Luffy became a giant balloon like creature, the bullets ricochet off of him. Your eyes went wide with shock and fear; you've never seen anything like this in your 19 years on this earth!
You screamed but it was cut short because one of your bullets grazed your leg and the other hit you directly in the shoulder. You fell to your knees and held your shoulder, looking up and into his eyes that seemed to have gotten darker. Quickly Nami came behind you and grabbed both of your arms to keep you in place. "Told yah." Luffy says with a sinister smile, or at least, it looked sinister. He waves his hand and Sanji left quickly to the room they came out of, while Usopp runs to another room and Zoro gives you a smirk, "Feel smart huh?" "What ARE you?!" You question Luffy. He shrugs and gets down to your height tilting your chin up, he looks at you, trying not to bite his lip.
"I'm your captain." Zoro and Nami respond with, "WHAT?!" At the same time, staring at their captain with shock and anger. "Luffy you can't be serious!" "Come on, it's late and we're not going back to that Island!" He gets back up and he points at Usopp who came running with a medical kit. "Take that bullet out her arm. She's gonna be riding with us now! I like her arm! She's now part of the crew!"
You screamed at him and tried to fight everyone off as Nami held you down and made you lay flat on your face, her knee was in your back. You grunt and hiss now that the pain from the bullet was starting to hurt more. "Just be still." Usopp tells you with a nervous smile going close to your arm. "Zoro, pick her up and take her to the map room!" Nami instructs, "LUFFY!" She calls for her captain angrily. "NAMIIII!!" Luffy responds but in a cherry tone.
Nami approaches him and pokes his chest. "I have no idea what you're planning, but that woman just tried to kill us. Now you're making her a member of the crew?" Luffy shrugs, "I see no problem! She is clearly a good person doing a bad thing! Besides I think she's pretty! She could be useful and a good friend for you Nami! Seeing as you're the only girl, maybe a GIRL friend for Nami?-' Luffy gives a bright smile and pats her shoulder.
"Let's go learn our new friend's name!!" He was surely excited to get to know his killer, and he especially loved how his heart beat extra fast when he was near you.

ohh so you have more cast's lifestyle habits 👀 could you share some without spoilers? some of them are... unexpected lol? i really like the cast, they're all so cool! 🧡
oh, absolutely. i ran these quickly by marina too, so:
percy's in the habit of saying to jamie and elio when they come back to the house: "do you want to have dinner? a bath? or me? ♡" before anyone asks, he'd say that to an mc he's in a serious relationship with but he does like joking he's functionally married to the other two. sometimes, he'll throw in an anata.
if he knows he doesn't have plans for the day, percy will just not leave his bed. man's just fully marinating. he could be convinced out if the impromptu plans develop with a good friend, but otherwise godspeed trying to get him to move.
cameron listens to as many male groups as they do female groups, but there's something about a lady idol doing a run (in a singing context) that makes them have to stop with a hand over their heart and one in the air like they're hearing gospel in a church. it kind of is a religious experience.
to that end, cameron's what the kids call a k-boomer. they listen to the earlier first into second generation bands and are convinced no one will do better. that's groups like shinee, girls generation, 2ne1, so on. no, i'm not projecting.
elio will never take more than one trip to carry groceries. ever.
elio has a tendency to treat the kitchen like his personal one-man orchestra. he'll slap a pan before he uses it or purposefully clink his dishes together (which is why some of them are noticeably chipped) or rattle spoons as he's putting them away or using them.
as part of the "napping with percy" saga, jamie finds himself being used as furniture more often than not in their own house. the others might put something in his hands to hold, or they might just drape themselves across his lap if he's sitting on the couch. he once famously was a coat hanger and glorified ladder.
jamie would be considered a world-class bargain hunter and likes going to farmer's markets and swap meets. he won't negotiate with the hard work of farmers, but he will negotiate down to the dime at a swap meet. he does have a fanny pack and a wide-brimmed hat to protect his delicate skin every sunday.
chores with deja is a war of attrition. as long as you do your part, she won't say anything. but, say you leave your dishes in the sink. she'll do the same and she'll keep doing it until you're both eating cereal out of a mug. keep the sink clean or she'll kill you.
deja doesn't keep a running tally on how much she's spent on food. she kind of just works on the pay schedule of "i owe roughly 12 dinners, and am owed 15 dinners" between her, mc, cameron and reynah. this also applies to drinks.
reynah's favorite fruits are coconuts, pineapples and watermelons. not because she has any preference for their taste. but, she just kind of gets a kick out of the process of breaking them down so she can eat them. cracking open a coconut's hard. pineapples have all those eyes. watermelons are huge.
while she isn't messy, reynah does have the habit of leaving half-finished seltzer bottles everywhere. it's just a lot of drink and she just kind of forgets to keep drinking them when she gets pulled away to do something or another. if asked, though, she'll say it's not because she's forgetful but that the first few sips are peak carbonation. everything after isn't as appealing.

Jingle All The Way
Silver practically stumbled into the royal living room, flopped down onto the floor face first. A muffled groan escaped his throat. The time traveller contemplated actually falling asleep on the carpeted floor. He lazily waved his pointing finger as he felt a chill creep up on him, which closed the balcony doors behind him. He was free from the harsh wind outdoors, but the grey hedgehog still shivered. He couldn't wait to warm himself up in front of the fireplace... warm... and cosy... like in Blaze’s arms. Hmm. That brought a smile to his dusty, tired face. Blazey was always so warm. He couldn't wait to snuggle into their partner, nuzzle into her neck, be held in her strong arms, just watching her pretty purple fur dance like flames every time she breathed in and out. He was always so captivated by the subtle beauty of his partner.
Traversing post-apocalyptic timelines weighed heavily on him, both body and mind. But the thought of returning to Blaze and Marine, even Gardon, it kept him going. It steeled his resolve. He thought the worst reality had to offer because he knew at the end of the day he could go back to her.
And then Silver lifted his head up he noticed another reason to be joyful and cheerful, a tree wrapped in colourful lights with a golden star atop it. It was Christmas. Well, Christmas Eve, only one night away from ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ as the song remarked.
Along with celebrating The Winter Steps, the traditional holiday of The Sol Queendom, both Blaze and Silver were eager to experience and celebrate the new holiday ever since Amy told them about it. For Silver it was a way to reconnect and bond with his home, enjoying and getting to actually know it. For Blaze it was a way to reconnect and bond with Silver, partake in his interests like a good partner should. But also acting as a way for her to remember and honour her friends in her neighbouring dimension, her other home, that brought light and joy to her. Also, it was good for her, the Princess was a dire workaholic, and she deserves as much free time as possible. She had more than earned it.
A greenish-cyan aura coated the hedgehog and he floated himself to the living room couch, and sat himself down on a soft cushion, only to realise he was sharing the couch with someone else. To his surprise it wasn't a small orange raccoon who had fallen asleep waiting for his return like she often did. Marine hated being alone, feeling abandoned, that much all three of them shared. But it wasn't, it was in fact a very familiar purple feline, nestled into the other end of the couch. Blaze’s tail trailed its way over to Silver and encircled his waist, an indicator for the grey telekinetic to move up closer. And so, he did. And the partners finally reunited in a warm embrace in front of a cosy fireplace. The perfect evening.
“I'm sorry I'm late.” Silver half murmured, well on his way to dreamland. He nuzzled further into Blaze’s shoulder.
“Mmm, don't be. I just got here myself. Today was tough. There is still half a mountain of paperwork waiting for me back in my office. Ughh, but I'm just trying not to think about it.” She groaned in annoyance.
“I'm sorry, Blazey. I can't even imagine how… stressful running a whole dimension must be. I don't know how I could help, but if there is anything I can do… just let me know.”
“Heh, almost as difficult as protecting all of time and space. It seems to me that we are both entrenched in our duties. And you are doing plenty. Just having you here is enough. So soft, my pillow. The thought of having you at the end of the evening gets me through the day.”
“Aww, Blaze.”
“Plus, you had plenty on your mind with that toy, the markets must have been hectic, we get people travelling from across seven of the nearest Queendom's.” Blaze murmured, her eyes still closed, also on her way to some well-deserved slumber.
“Mh-hmm... What toy?” Silver asked groggy, wondering if he misheard something.
“Rug-something or other… Ragnar the Viking-Barbarian. It was the toy Mari wanted for Christmas.” Silence. There was no response from Silver. At that moment Blaze’s eyes shot open, the white of the eyes turned a fiery yellow. She rose up from the cushion and silently, slowly turned to glare at Silver. More awake now than she had been for the last several hours. She was staring daggers into him, which made Silver shiver and wish he could roll up into a ball. “...Silver. You did buy the toy, didn't you?” No response. He just gritted his teeth together and bowed his head in shame as Blaze’s shadow loomed over him. “SILVER!” Her ponytail burst into flame.
“I thought you got it!”
“I thought you got it! Silvy, ugh, I cannot believe you. She talked about it practically every day. She practically couldn't stop talking about it.” She massaged the bridge of her nose, annoyed.
She was right. In that moment Silver could remember the young raccoon excitedly ranting about the plastic action figure at every turn she could; between munching on her cereal, or when she was braiding his quills, or when she tinkered with some component of her new boat, or when rocking back and forth in bed right before bedtime. She was so cute. And Silver was so screwed.
Silver stuttered, “I- I'm so sorry, I- I was busy.” Even he wasn't satisfied with his excuse.
“I've been busy too! I had to organise and sign off on all The Winters Steps festivities! Reallocate a brand new education fund! Broker peace between two warring nations! Fight off an armada of mutant sea monsters! Fight off Eggman who created the said mutant sea monsters! And defeated a reawakened evil God of dark magic, all before fighting for and passing a new housing bill!”
“Well, I've had to fight off an evil Shadow, two Time-Eaters, and three Eggmen, each with a different end of the world Kaiju summoning doomsday device. And I had to stop a sun from going supernova by shifting it into a timeline where the concept of heat doesn't exist!” Silver exclaimed, half attempting to find a good enough excuse, half knowing that he fully messed up.
Blaze just sighed, her shoulders drooped low, she didn't want to argue, she knew Silver was just as busy as she was, maybe even more. And she too had forgotten about it until this moment. But Silver's guilt-ridden low self-esteem took hold of him, “No, you're right. I messed up. I'm sorry, Blazey. But I'll make it right, I promise.”
Blaze sighed once more, “No, WE’LL make this right. I forgot too. And we won't let our little rascal sailor wake up on Christmas Day without a present, will we?”
Silver smiled, “No we won't. But where do we start?...” They both pondered and--
“The Solian Grand Central Shopping Mall!”
--They both answered simultaneously. Like they often did. They were in sync like that.
“But... wait, what's the time? The stores close at 9. And it's... 8:30!”
The two partners set off on a mad dash to the toy filled shelves of the many stores within the mall. But not before they swiftly adorned their respective disguises, turning Blaze The Cat Princess of Sol and her loyal bodyguard and squire Silver into Flare The Black Cat and Venice The Mink. Blue eye lenses, black and red fur paint. And a mouth covering for certainty. They leapt out the balcony, Silver soared through the dark sky and Blaze streaked across the landscape outpacing Silver above her, leaving trails of cyan and orange behind them.
And soon enough the partners stood before The Solian Grand Central Mall. A truly massive complex structured at the centre of Sol's primary market of commerce. Three or four levels of shops, kiosks, and stands, gallery of goods spanning the entire dimension. A nexus where all the realms and Queendoms converged and indulge in friendly sharing and trade.
“We made it! With plenty of time to spare.” Silver proclaimed.
“I wouldn't celebrate yet, the mall is surely packed with crowds of desperate customers. And without using our powers, which would draw unwanted attention to us, this will take time.” Blaze remained stern.
“It surely can't be that busy, it's a day before The Winter Steps, surely most people have already gotten all the present buying out of their system. People wouldn't leave something like that till the last minute, would they?” Except unfortunately, that was not true. The mall was full, overcrowded, you could almost swim on the people. Silver and Blaze had a hard time even turning among the flood of people. However, the protagonists remained undeterred, they began searching; level by level, shop by shop, toy store by toy store. Met plenty of strange characters on the way, but no Ragnar on any shelf. None the less, they kept looking.
“Can you check in the back?”
“It's not in the back.”
“It's probably definitely in the back.”
“Man, I literally work here. I've been asked for this specific item seven times today, I know we're out of stock.”
“Well, it says you have it on the website.”
“Have you not watched me squirrel around on these letters for 15 minutes? We're out.”
“Do you have this?”
“Have you checked if we have it in stock on our website?”
“No.”
“Wonderful.”
“Can I return this?”
“Do you have a receipt?”
“No. I have no proof I bought this. Also, I didn't buy it, my wife did.”
“Okay, great.”
“Do you have footballs in a different shape?”
“What?”
“Like a ball but a different shape.”
“... it's a ball... it needs to bounce.”
“... So no?”
Blaze and Silver converged at the very top. One toystore remained. Their last hope of saving Marine’s Christmas. The Last Nutcracker, it was called, as the neon flashing sign proclaimed. They crossed their fingers.
“Any luck?”
“No. You?”
“No. Nothing. How hard is it to find one blasted toy?” Blaze was on the verge of tearing her hair out in frustration.
“One more stop to go, let's go ask around. It couldn't hurt. Well, they'd probably not recognise me at least.” Silver suggested. Blaze gave a silent huff. The hedgehog entered the toy store and Blaze followed close behind. He orbited around a shopfloor employee who was currently in the midst of the one-sided conversation with a customer about a price tag for a Merf gun.
In the meantime, while Silver was waiting for the employee to notice him, Blaze searched the rest of the store. They scanned shelf after shelf, checked behind every toy, at every aisle, in every window display. Merf. Bricko. SpindashBlade. Fluidformers. G.I.Bro. Pokamen. Adolescent Alien Pirate Geekos. Cubecraft. No Ragnar and The Stewards of The Cosmos. Blaze was about to lose it. “I'm about to lose it.” Told ya.
She returned back to Silver’s side who walked up behind the staff member, and cleared his throat. Not noticed. Blaze cringed a few paces away. “Sorry excuse me... sorry Sir?” He tapped the staff member on the shoulder. That made them finally turn around, however slowly and stiffly. Clearly very tired. Eyes half lidded, bags under them. The talking customer didn't even notice the employee had shifted their focus from them. Suddenly Silver felt a lump in his throat, he gulped and gave him a shaky grin. “Hi, uh, sorry to bother you, my friend and I are looking for a Ragnar The Barbarian toy, do you have any left in stock, by any chance?”
The employee paused for moment as his eyes widened and a smile grew on his face. Before Silver could comprehend what was happening the worker was laughing and wheezing hysterically. The cat and hedgehog exchanged glances of confusion. The blue shirted worker was having so much fun that they bent over in laughter and reached over to the chatty customer and brought them over. They attempted to catch their breath, “Hey, hey, these two are looking for a Ragnar! HAHAHAHA!”
To Blaze and Silver's bewilderment the customer too burst out into thunderous laughter. Enough to force the two to lean on each other to prevent themselves from falling over.
“What's so funny!?” Silver asked slightly angered.
“Theh- There is no more Ragnars left! Genius! Haha! It's the hottest selling toy of the year! They've been sold for months! You dummies! You idiots! It's Christmas Eve, haha! What were you thinking!?!”
“Yeah, a bit late on the draw, huh? What? You and your girlfriend took too long trudging through tar?” He pointed and cackled at Blaze in her disguise.
“Yeah, good luck finding one now moron.”
Silver gritted his teeth. He had had enough, and proceeded to grab both of the people ridiculing his partner, “Where's your Christmas spirit? If you ever talk to her like that again I'm going to make it so that your memories leak out of your nose. Do you understand that?” They nodded ‘yes’. Silver answered for them. “No. No you don't. And pray that you don't. Now, how about you help me out and make yourself useful?”
The employee yet again nervously nodded and shakingly reached out into the nearby shelf and pulled out an action figure, and handed the transparent plastic box over to Blaze with a quivering smile. Still being held up.
Silver's glow faded from his eyes. Blaze’s brow quirked up in puzzlement, she questions sternly, “What is this?”
“Smirgglebeef. The Mount. Ragnar’s sidekick, the ward, you know the Comic Relief. Heh.” They remarked awkwardly. Blaze seemed unimpressed. “It's the last Stewards of the Cosmos figure that we have left. Promise. Honest.”
Blaze looked down at the toy defeated, she signed, “Let them go, Sil- uh- Venice. Let's go.” She turned away and began to walk out.
Silver put the store goers down as Blaze had ordered, and obeyed as he always did. An extension of her will, a loyal follower, that was who he was, he hung onto every word of hers. He turned his nose up to them, “We'll take it.” He turned around... and then turned back, “With a discount.” The employee nodded furiously. And so, he set off after Blaze. The partners proceeded to purchase the toy and weaved through the crowds of rushing people, utterly defeated.
Blaze’s posture was slouched, shoulders low, head bowed down in shame and exhaustion, her eyes so sad. Silver couldn't have told you what his posture was like or where he was going or what was around him. Because his entire world was Blaze, she was all he could focus on. He hated seeing her like this. And it was all his fault. His guilt, shame, and low self-esteem had skyrocketed. He had to do something, that was what he believed, he could not stand not seeing her smile. And then-
The time traveller noticed something past Blaze that gave him an idea. An employee pushing a trolley full of cardboard boxes through a set of doors in the back, most likely leading to the store’s- “Warehouse.”
“What?”
Silver took Blaze’s hand and pulled her along with him towards the double doors, “This way. I have an idea. One last shot.”
“The warehouse? Silver, no, we can't, we shouldn't trespass.”
“But for MarMar? Shouldn’t I try?” Blaze considered it, her face scrunched up. She nodded, determined. “You keep a lookout. And I'll-”
“Hey, what are you two doing here?” A different staff member approached them.
The partners froze like deer in headlights and the two parties just kind of stared at each other, making this face: )-‘—'-(. Silver swiped a small die cast race car and threw it over and behind the employee. “Eh. Look! It distraction!”
The employee swivelled around and pursued the item, “What?! A distraction? Not on my watch!” He rushed off, and tackled an elder lady pursuing a range of plushie monkeys and rubber duckies, “Get on the ground shoplifter!”
Blaze shrugged at Silver, “Huh. I guess that works. Come on let's go.”
The toy hunters entered the back, and they weren't exactly sure what they expected, but what they beheld was overwhelming to say the least. The fire Princess and the time displaced nomad were met with a flood of brown cardboard boxes and bubble wrap. And so, they dived headfirst into the solid ocean. Blaze butterflied through the stream of Blarbie Dream Condos and hairbrush accessories, while Silver back stroked through the river of Mx Squash-tato Heads from Action Figure Story 4. No Ragnar. Scooters. Glitter slime. Roller skates. Hair beads. Walkie talkies. No Ragnar.
“Heh, have you seen the stuff they sell to kids?” Silver pulled out a box depicting a cartoon monkey farting out a cloud of green with kids laughing in the background. “‘Don't Wake Up The Farting Monkey’?”. He read the title out loud.
“You think that's bad, have a look at this one.” Blaze dragged up a furry demon tie-dyed with a set of unnervingly realistic teeth. “‘Barfing Gnome (with realistic teeth)’. Is this?... This is concerning. People really buy things like these for their kids? Poop unicorns and toilet mystery boxes with rainbow poopy collectables? What did I just read, heh?”
“Yeah. You know, you say that, but you just know Marine would love this. She'd be all like; It's so gross! I love it! I'm going to use it to scare Tails!” Silver mimic to the young raccoon’s voice.
Blaze covered her mouth, trying to keep the laughter in. “You're not wrong.”
Silver’s smile soon faded back into a frown, he signed, “Not what we're looking for though.”
“No. No sight of it anywhere.”
“This is all my fault. Because of me our little girl will wake up on Christmas without the one thing she wanted. I am such a failure.”
“Silvy. The toy’s been out of stock for months. You're not a- this isn't your-” and then suddenly the outside doors rolled up and open with the loud sound of clinking and clanking metal. A forklift was driving in. Blaze used her hyper-speed to grab her partner and hide them in a large box. They were crammed but remained unnoticed. Blaze covered Silver's mouth with her palm to keep him quiet. “Shhh, we just stay quiet, let them pass by and get out after they leave.”
Silver removed Blaze’s palm from his face, “But aren't you talking right now? Wouldn’t that give us aw-”
“Hey Frankie! What about these talking bouncy balls? Should I just leave them here undisturbed and safe-like!?”
“Nah! Their bouncy balls for crying out, they’re made for shaking and rattling, go to town!”
Blaze and Silver exchanged an awkward look, “Uhm... surely they’re talking about a different talking box, ri-ahhhyyyeee!” And so the rattling and thrashing began.
They felt movement, or rather being moved, transported to a secondary location. And the workers were in for quite the surprise when they opened the box. The crate began flipping, spinning upsidedown and downsideup as if they were tumbling down the escalator. Tumble, rumble, and then... nothing, everything stopped. No footsteps and no talking.
“Soooo what now? Do we make an exit? Or do we stay inside and not risk it?” And right on time the box fell apart, exposing them, bouncy balls going everywhere inside the... Ball pit? “I guess exit it is.” They took to their feet, trudging through the marsh of plastic and bouncy balls, “Ball pit, huh? Never been in one before, looks fun though. Do you ever have the kid like urge to dive head first into-”
Blaze sharply gript Silver's shoulder and shook him violently side to side as something held her gaze of in the distance, “Silver. Silver, look!” The cat monarch pointed to the object ahead of them, the item of their desires, their ultimate target. Silver’s eyes widened. There it was, on a pedestal, a beam of light perfectly spotlighting it.
The half plastic, half elastic rubber form, the mis-applied paint, the awkwardly sculpted face mid-scream, the battle axe additional accessory made out of bendy plastic and the back of the packaging advertising other figures the toy could flimsily combine with… it was beautiful.
Blaze and Silver slowly approached the pedestal, reaching out for it, their eyes glistening in awe and wonder, beholding it as if it was a holy artefact. “We got it. Finally, we got it! Woohoo!” Blaze exclaimed.
“Yes, yes, yes! I knew it, that we'd make it. Marshmallow is going to lose it. Haha. Oh, she's going to be so happy; I'm going to be such a good brother. Nothing's gonna stop us now.” He rubbed his hands like a fly. They both reached for the toy, and then the curtain before them that they hadn't notice before parted. It was then that the partners realised that they were on a stage, at the centre of the mall, now exposed and having everyone stare directly at them. They slowly turned to the crowd of Santa Clauses... Clausi?? Paralysed by sudden shock. All had noticed them, except for the main announcer Santa who was faced away from them.
“Okay, who's excited!? Let's turn those frowns upside down, huh? Welcome to the first Annual Christmas Giveaway Bingo Contest. Woo. I'm not sure what Christmas or bingo is, but we'll figure it out, I'm pretty sure this is how it works, roughly, pretty sure. Now, who is ready to win this contest, huh!? Of which, of course, the reward is this limited edition mint condition-”
“Gary.”
“What?”
“Look behind you.” The announcer swivelled around to spot Blaze and Silver mid-stealing the toy.
“Maybe if we stay still, they won't see us?” Silver remarked optimistically, attempting to stay as still as possible.
“Thief! Get them!” A random crowd member yelled at them in pure unbridled rage. And the crowd, now mob, charged alongside the vanguard of Santas at Blaze and Silver who hastily grabbed the figure and ran off into the opposite direction, through the mosh pit, which significantly slowed them down. The mob caught up with them. Blaze witnessed Silver get besieged by and toppled by a contingent of grandmas. And he sank beneath the ball surface, his hand reaching out for her.
“Si- I mean- Venice! No!” He threw her the toy, and she of course caught it perfectly.
But Blaze wasn't safe either. As a Santa run up behind her and proceeded to try to choke her out with a huge candy cane. “We take our job VERY SERIOUSLY!” The cat noticed another Santa charging at them with a plastic tree as a battering ram. She quickly flipped upward over candy cane Santa, which tree ram Santa bulldozed. Blaze continued running.
“Stand down, and return the toy!” Blaze heard a loud voice behind her which belonged to the announcer, which was sailing on a sled pulled by a pack of reindeer employees. “Arm the mistletoe archers! Fire the holly anchors!” Blaze ducked the fired arrows attempting to pierce her and the anchors attempting to grapple her. The fire Princess faced the attackers, covered her mouth with her fist and coughed a powerful gust of super-heated air at them. “Ah! Where did this thaw come from!? I'm falling overboard!” The slide toppled over. She smiled, allowing herself to celebrate briefly.
She felt a hand grab hold of her leg from beneath the plastic balls, she reeled back her arm, conjuring a fireball in her hand, ready to incinerate whoever touched her. But her hand cooled as she saw the familiar face surface.
“Silver! Are you-”
Silver wore a face of horror, he looked dishevelled and panicked, “Run! We need to run! They bite! They bite and gnaw! Crawling all over you!” She saw fear in her partner's eyes.
“Silvy, what are you-”. Just then she found out what Silver was running from. They emerged like piranhas, chopping at their limbs, showing off their teeth.
“Oh no, they found me!” Then an army of little kids jumped out at them, all missing teeth, and tooth gaps, and food scraps stuck between them. One kid leaped and bit down on Blaze’s arm. She flailed her arm around trying to get them off, and flung them into the air. Silver pushed the horde of ravenous kindergartners with his telekinesis. Silver pulled out a half-eaten chocolate bar and threw it over to the army of Santa's chasing them. The sea of children stopped, u-turned, and sprinted to the candy.
“Let us go before they turn their attention back to us!” Blaze advised.
“And we still have the toy!”
“We're criminals now though... Where did you get that candy bar?
“You'd be surprised what's under there.” They were about to climb out of the ball pit, they were right next to the pit’s ledge.
“Not so fast.” The voice threatened them from behind. The partners swivelled around to see another mob of people standing before them. Mostly consisting of angrily glaring mothers in yoga pants pushing strollers.
“What? How did you get in front of us?” Blaze asked bewildered.
“...We briskly walked around the ball pit.”
“Oh.” They both remarked in sync.
“Now, no one’s going anywhere. Not until you hand that toy over, and that way no one gets hurt.” The woman reached into the undercarriage of her baby stroller and pulled out--
“Is- is that a gun!?!” Blaze dreaded.
“What?! No, no, that’d be cra- insane. This is a massage gun… NOW, hands up or we'll relax you into a puddle, you'll be lax for weeks!”
Blaze gasped, and reeled back in fear, raising her arm up to guard herself, looking like a vampire beholding sunlight. Silver gasped too, but quickly realised that the threat wasn't that bad, “Ahh!ahh… Wait that's not too bad- actually, Blaze you could use that, you're always so strained, your muscles are always so tense and rippling and sweaty and handsome... sorry, what was I talking about?”
“NO! I must remain ready and alert and rigid at all times for all possibilities and eventualities all the time! I can never lower my guard! Damn you, witch! Stay away from me!” She hissed and clawed at the air. Mreowing furiously.
“Maybe we can find a middle ground.” Silver suggested.
“How about you buzz off, you idiot twink!”
“How about I ignite a miniature sun inside your stomach and have its gravitational orbit tear you apart like tissue paper from the inside out! You don’t talk to him like that!!” Blaze snapped.
“Gasp! She threatened me! Get them!” The yoga moms jumped at them, smacking Silver over the head with her stroller, from which the baby began whacking him on the forehead with their baby rattle.
“Ah, help! The one opponent I cannot hit!”
The massage gun lady tackled Blaze. One of Blaze’s hands held the massage gun away, while her other hand held the boxed toy away from the lady’s reach. “Get off me, lady.”
“Just give me the box, girl. And you can go. Or I'll be forced to relax you into a pulp! What do you even need it for? Don't you kids have enough FlunkoPopLock’n’Drops and your WarmWheeles! I need it for my nephew.”
“Because you forgot about him?” Blaze raised her brow.
“...No!... Oh and what? You're so much better? You're here, today, clearly YOU forgot somebody too! A sibling? A child?”
Blaze gritted her teeth, bearing her fangs, she had touched a nerve. Her eyes turned red. Her body temperature began to rise. Steam trails rose up from her fur as unbeknownst to Blaze she was in the process of superheating the air around her. The flame inside Blaze reacted and was bound to her emotions, her thoughts, and her soul - control and discipline subdued and starved the flame, raw emotion ignited it.
However, Blaze was not unskilful, no flame burst out from her body, but she did manage to push the lady off of her with the force of a powerful gust of searing air. She quickly retrieved Silver from under the stroller and swiped the baby rattle from the baby, and pointed it at the Karen crowd like a knife. The mob gasped and stumbled backwards. “My baby!...’s rattle. It's expensive, don't throw it!” One of them cried while clutching her pearl necklace.
“Nobody moves! Silver, get the toy. We're leaving.” She proclaimed. A moment of silence passed; Silver did not move. “Silver?” Blaze studied Silver's face which was conveying a variety of emotions; shock, dread, and misery. She followed his eye line to the melted and burned malformed remains of the toy and its packaging. The toy was destroyed. All the energy and determination drained from her body.
The yoga lady rose up with her hair and eyebrows singed, clothes slightly seared, her skin slightly tanned. “Wha- What happened?” She spotted the wreckage of the toy, “Oh great, look what you did, it's ruined. Thanks a lot.” She stood up and strolled away as did the rest of the crowd, they dispersed, muttering disappointments.
Blaze just remained still, mouth a gape, eyes dead, her posture completely loose and slack. She was just stuck staring at the thing that once was a figure. Silver’s hand hovered over her shoulder. Oh how he couldn't stand to see her like this. He needed to reassure his partner. “Blazey.”
“It's ruined. Everything is ruined. And it's all my fault.”
“No, stop that, this isn't your fault, Blazey. You're amazing. This was my fault. I forgot to pre-order the toy. I failed her. You look after her and mentor her. I'm never around, I forgot about her. This is all my fault.”
“...Sunflower, why must every compliment you give me be paired with an insult to yourself? You care for her as much as I do. And she knows it too. You're busy too, all of time and space, and all that. The fault is not your own… WE failed our little girl.” She bowed her head down sadly.
Silver reached his hand out to Blaze, he never liked to touch her without permission. So he reached out to her with his mind, gave her a gentle ‘ping’; a sort of warm and fuzzy sensation. It was a familiar and welcome feeling for Blaze, she knew this was his way of asking permission. Blaze gave him her answer as her tail wrapped around his waist and pulled him closer. Without a moment's hesitation Silver wrapped his arms around her, nuzzling into her ear. Blaze leaned into his fluffy fur. She pulled out the box containing Smirgglebeef and just looked down at it as did Silver.
“Let's go home.”
The two didn't even remember the journey home, or entering through the balcony, or making their way to the couch where it all began. They only remembered each other’s sensation, the warmth, the softness, the sound of each other’s breaths, the sound of their heartbeats, and then they fell into slumber, the toy still in hand. They managed to doze off, holding hands, forehead to forehead, snoozing together.
Hours rolled on and the partners fell deeper and further into sleep. And therefore, they did not notice the young raccoon entering the royal living room. She had ventured outside of her bedroom because she just couldn't sleep, partially because she was too excited, and partially because... she didn't want to be alone. The little girl hopped, pranced and skipped over to the couch and found her mentors asleep without her, now that would not do. She told herself that she wanted to stay up late to meet this enigmatic Santa and ask him a few things, study his craft; escape artistry, see if she could incorporate some of it into her own repertoire. But really, she was hoping to catch B and Silver, she knew they both worked late, and she just wanted to be with them. She noticed the toy in B’s hand, she took it, “Wow, Smirgglebeef, cool.” She couldn't wait to rub it into Tails's face. She scampered up the couch and sat herself down and nestled herself in between Blaze and Silver. Enclosed in the perfect combination of warmth and softness. And she too fell asleep soon enough.
Garden soon after entered, suspecting he'd find Blaze there after finding her office empty. Of course, he was right, and glad to be so. He smiled, seeing the little girl he helped raise at peace. He gently laid a blanket over them, and retreated to his own quarters for the night.

The Escape - Part 12
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11
Tumblr media
Loguetown is one of the last few big towns before ships enter the grandline. A merchant town and a Marine controlled town it has everything young cadets and pirates need. Armories brim with sturdy armor, ensuring the safety and protection of those setting sail. Provision stores abound, stocked with essential supplies to sustain voyages across treacherous waters. Bookstores proudly showcase their collection of maps and charts, invaluable resources for skilled navigators seeking to chart their course amidst the unpredictable seas. And amidst it all, clothing merchants proudly display their wares, offering a dazzling array of fabrics and garments that capture the imagination with their beauty and allure.
You carefully wander around, enchanted by all the beautiful things this town has to offer. The streets of Loguetown come alive with the vibrant energy of its inhabitants. Little children playing on the pedestrian walkways, their laughter echoing through the air. Some engage in games of catch, their tiny hands gripping colorful balls that bounce gleefully. Others skip and twirl with jump ropes, their nimble feet gracefully navigating the rhythmic dance. Everything seems so peaceful here.
Marine officers standing guard on corners of the streets, keeping an eye out for any unwanted intruders. You are glad that this town seems to be so civilized - Buggy would probably just walk around here covered with a coat to avoid the bothersome marines. You stop in front of a shop selling dresses, a long green dress has caught your attention, beautifully crafted with stitches and pearls adorning its collar. You stand there for almost 5 minutes, completely hypnotized by the beauty of this piece of clothing. When was the last time you felt like a woman and not like a dirty pirate in ragged clothes?
That was the life you had chosen but sometimes you wonder how it would have been if you could just go back to your village and live the life most girls choose over there - growing up, getting married and becoming a housewife. The more you thought about this, the more you started to dislike this thought as well - how boring life must be when you are just home, cooking and doing the laundry.
You wanted something in between - life on the ship and sometimes wearing a beautiful dress like this… You look into the little bag you had tied around your hip. There were some bread crumbs and a bronze coin you had found in your chamber. That would probably be just enough to buy you one drink in a pub. You needed to first find a way to get some money. Then food. Then clothes. Then a boat. You sigh. This all sounds more difficult than you had anticipated.
Maybe finding Luffy first was the best idea - not only to warn him, but to check if he already had a pirate crew and maybe some gold to share with you.
With one last glance at the dress you decide to move on, hoping to come back later to acquire it.
As you wander aimlessly through the streets you realize that the sun is slowly setting and you start to get a bit nervous - where could Luffy be? If you remember how your childhood friend was back in the village where you always played together, he was the one who was always noisy and in the center of attention. If he was still the same Luffy, then he might be at the central point of this town - probably at the market place or at the execution platform of the former pirate king Gol D. Roger. You remember that this town was the place where the former king of the pirates was executed. You realize that this must be the place where Luffy would be heading to. Curious as he was, this would be the spot he wanted to visit first.
A friendly looking Marine with blonde hair smiles at you as you approach him to ask for directions. Directing your attention towards the main street, the marine gestures with an outstretched finger, drawing your gaze towards a figure positioned at the opposite end. As you obediently follow the line of sight, your eyes lock with Cabaji's, a fleeting moment of connection that sends a chill down your spine. However, a sudden realization washes over you, bringing reassurance that you were safe for now. In this town, which brims with righteous defenders of justice, Cabaji holds no power to inflict harm upon you.
Skillfully engaging the Marine in a conversation you keep asking about good restaurants and more clothing shops or any place he would recommend visiting. He keeps talking to you and you realize Cabaji, seemingly vanished from sight, has left your immediate vicinity. A wave of relief washes over you, taking away the nervousness that had lingered within.
You make sure that there are people at every corner of the street you are following now, avoiding shortcuts and dark corners, because you know that could be the ideal moment for the Buggy pirates to catch you and bring you back. Hiding in plain sight was exactly the strategy you had to go with.
As you finally reach the center of the town a vast open space stretches in front of you, surrounded by houses. This was the place where Gol D. Roger was executed 20 years ago. People were wandering over the plaza as if this place had no historical significance, the sun was shining and the execution platform stood in the middle of this area like a monument to remember the end and the beginning of the pirate era.
You feel somehow moved, knowing not only the significance of Gol D. Roger but also thinking back of how cruel the marines were to execute him in front of all the people watching.
You slowly walk closer to the plattform, as you suddenly hear running steps behind you, a familiar voice panting and yelling “Yeeeaah! I found it!”
You turn around to see a young boy with black hair, a red vest and blue trousers, running towards you. With every stride, he clutches his straw hat firmly, determined to prevent the gusts of wind from whisking it away. The fire in his eyes, the excited grin - you immediately know who that is.
“Luffy!” you shout in excitement and the straw hat stops in surprise, just two meters away from you.
His baffled face turns into complete joy as he realizes who had called his name.
“Y/n! You are here as well?”, now he runs towards you, leaping in your arms and you try to hold your balance and not fall on your back - this boy has grown so much, he is taller than you now and much stronger as well. You laugh in surprise and excitement to see your best friend again, a joyous laughter escapes your lips, intermingling with the bubbling excitement within. Without hesitation, you open your arms wide, enveloping him in a warm and heartfelt embrace.
As you draw him closer, a familiar scent wafts through the air, filling your senses with a comforting nostalgia. It is the fragrance of sunshine and barbecue, a delightful blend that evokes memories of carefree days and shared moments of happiness - Luffy had always loved meat more than any other food.
“I am so glad to see you, Luffy! And look at you. You are a full grown man now! Soon to be king of the pirates!”
“Yes!”, he interrupts the hug to look at you as well. “You are also much bigger now. Man, and you have long hair now! "That's neat!”
You laugh. Big was probably not the best word to use for a lady, but you knew Luffy was not a poet, but a pirate.Though his intentions were consistently kind-hearted, it was evident that he possessed a certain naivety and a tendency to act impulsively. “My hair is definitely longer than the last time we met.”, you chuckle, “But Luffy, I am here to talk to you, the way how I got here is quite crazy. And most of all - you are in danger!”
He grins from one ear to another.
“I really want to hear your Story, Y/n. But let's just go and look at the execution platform together now. That is the thing I came for in the first place. And then let's talk!”
“But Luffy, this is urgent…!”
He does not listen to the end of your sentence but just grabs you by the hand and drags you along, with a strength you didn't know he possessed before.
“Let's go up there!”, he laughs and doesn't let go of you, all the way until you both reach the platform. You pant and try to catch your breath, but Luffy is determined and he cannot be stopped if he wants something so badly.
“Hold on to me!”, he cheerfully exclaims and lays his arm around your waist. You suddenly blush from this intimate gesture. He grabs on to you tight, then raises his arm and you are too startled by what happens next - his arm stretches all the way up to the top of the platform, grabbing onto an iron rod under the wooden platform. You scream in shock as you are both suddenly catapulted up to the platform at dizzying speed.
Luffy holding on to you making sure you jump together with him on the platform as you reach the top. As you ascend, the rush of adrenaline courses through your veins, heightening your senses. The moment of anticipation culminates as Luffy's feet touch the ground first, his unwavering stability serving as an anchor. He extends a steady hand, providing support as you find your footing beside him. Together, you regain balance, standing firm. Your heart is racing.
“What was that?” you gasp in shock and fear.
“The gum gum fruit, I am a rubber man!”, he laughs, probably highly entertained by your face. “You should have warned me… that was a very unpleasant lift.!”, you slowly regained your posture and gave Luffy a friendly shove. From here you can see over all of Loguetown, you see the people down below, gazing up at you both in fear and shock. Luffy starts laughing. “Man, this is neat! We are where the former pirate King stood!”
You realize that you are very high up and probably also at a place where normal citizen shouldnt be without permission of the marines. “Luffy, I think this was not the best idea.. now we have drawn all the attention on us!”
As you say that you suddenly hear a familiar voice, a yell from down the execution platform, covered in capes you can still see the red nose of Buggy the clown.
“I found the straw hat. And he has my treasure!”, you can hear his anger and frustration all the way up to here.
“Who is this?”Luffy asks, bending over, a bit too close to looking like falling down all the 5 meters down on the asphalt. “That is what I wanted to warn you about. Buggy the clown has abducted me and tries to kill you now..!”
“He did what?” Luffy turns around to you, the word “abducted” has probably somehow turned a switch inside of him. He was always very protective of the people he loved.
“I did not abduct her!”, yells Buggy from below who can surprisingly hear your conversation very well.
“Is that the clown guy I beat up in Orange town?” Luffy, all a bit slow, finally realizes who he was talking to. But there is no more time for more explanation - the marines have found out that you stepped on this platform and they are shouting at you to come down.
“Dammit, Luffy, what are we gonna do?”
With the marines and Buggy waiting down there you think trying to take them on would be like suicide. “Maybe just for now we run. I want you to also meet my crew!” Luffy grins and puts his arm around your waist again. You know what will happen next, so you lay your arms around his strong neck. Buggy is almost exploding in anger down at the platform as Luffy swings with you, arm fully stretched to the other side of the plaza, holding on to a chimney on a red tiled roof. “Don't let go, Y/n! This will be a bit rough..!”, you nod and fully trust Luffy - who would not trust the future king of the pirates?

So, I wasn't originally going to post, but today I just felt like sharing a bit. The following scene will be the start of a fanfiction of my (first) OC and Buggy. I have multiple scenes within this whole story already written, and I know how the story will go. I will most likely change this version, when I get a slightly different idea or when I need to include some additional information, but I want the general gist to be like this. I didn't put the whole scene I have written here, because I haven't yet typed it into my laptop (I'm a pencil and paper user - it's easier for me to justify having a pen and paper with me at work than being on my phone haha), but there will be more. I'm at the point where I would like to get your feedback; can be about anything, writing style, writing/spelling/grammar mistakes I made, anything on characters. (There is the possibility that I switch randomly between UK and USA english, I'm sorry) At this point all that's left for me to say is: It ain't much, but it's honest work. Enjoy and Thank you for reading.
------
He just fell out of the sky. Kanna looked at him with bewildered amusement. He was just a head with hands and feet, no trace of any legs or a torso. He seemingly had no injuries, but she couldn’t be sure, his fall had been pretty bad. She looked him over once more. His coat was way too big for him and his face was oddly familiar. The man was still unconscious and from his attire she figured he could be a pirate, so she wasn’t going to shake him awake. But she also couldn’t just let him lie around out in the open unconscious. She sighed and cautiously poked him with the tip of her shoe, when he still didn’t move, she slowly and carefully picked him up by his hands to carry him towards her small cabin. It was a short walk up the hill until she reached her home. She had to be careful not to stumble over his long orange coat. When she arrived at the house she tucked him into her bed. Judging by his hat he was a pirate and yet she couldn't bring herself to let him lay out there by himself, unconscious and without protection. Besides, maybe he was actually a nice person. Kanna had heard stories about somewhat nice pirates. Sure, being an asshole came with the job description but apparently there were also pirates that didn't abuse the weak and would just hunt the marines, other pirates or simply just treasure. He looked so peaceful. It was decided. Everything was better than to leave him outside and not keeping an eye on him. Kanna made a sour face as she remembered she still had to get groceries from the town's market. She contemplated if it was safe to go into town and leave the pirate to his own. She watched him for a moment and then chose to go nevertheless. She really needed to restock her supplies.
It was a short walk down the hill to reach town. She finished her tour as quickly as she possibly could. She was almost back on her way home when something caught her eye. It was a Wanted Poster. Her eyes grew wide. So that's where she had seen him. “Wanted Buggy the Clown 15 000 000 Berry” it read. This was the pirate captain who leveled Orange Town!
Kanna basically ran the way back up to her house, hoping it was still standing. Everything seemed calm when she arrived, so she took a moment to catch her breath. After a few moments she set her supplies down on the ground and opened the door to her cabin as quietly as she could and peeked in. The pirate was still in bed where she had left him and it didn't appear that he had moved at all. A sigh of relief escaped her. “What now?” she asked herself. She didn't want to kill him, that was going against her values. But nevertheless at that moment he still needed help and she couldn't just kick him out. No, she had to stay and take care of him, even if that meant risking her life. Kanna picked up her bag with supplies and entered the house to start putting the groceries away. It was time for lunch.
When Buggy came to the memories only slowly came back. That damned strawhat had launched him into the air. He would pay for this! Only slowly he became aware of his surroundings. He was lying on something soft, it smelled like food and… there was a voice. Talking to him? No. The voice was singing. His eyes flew open, looking for the source of the sound. He slowly turned his head and saw a woman with short black hair standing by a stove with her back towards him. It seemed like she was cutting up some vegetables while singing to herself. Buggy looked around and noticed he was in a small wooden house. Who was this person? Why was he in her house? Was she trying to rob him? Or worse, did she call the marines to get him for his bounty? He quietly managed to sit up, only to find the world spinning around him. His head was throbbing from pain.
Midway through her song she felt a burning sensation on her back. The hairs on her arms rose and she just knew her visitor had to be awake. Kanna stopped singing and slowly turned around to face him. She was surprised to find him already sitting upright in her bed. “Who are you?!” he demanded to know and Kanna noticed a dangerous tone in his voice. “My name is Kanna.” - “Where am I?!” - “You are in my home on the island Sensa.” Buggy looked at her funny “You are lying! There is no such island!” Kanna looked at him with a blank expression and shrugged. “We're a small seasonal island, so most maps won't show us.”  Buggy's eyebrow rose up but he didn't say anything else. He had heard about some seasonal islands on the East Blue. They were only accessible during certain seasons and after some time the ocean would claim them again, only for them to reappear the next year around the same time. People living on those islands would only build quick to raise wooden houses. Yet he was still skeptical. He didn't trust her. Buggy glared at her with narrow eyes. As if Kanna could read his mind she stated “I didn't call the Marines if that's what you're afraid of. And the next town's people don't know you're here either. You fell out of the sky in the woods just below this cabin. I can show you the exact location if you like.” The pirate stayed silent.
Kanna was tense and she hated the thickness of the air in her cabin. She sighed and tried to relax her stance. He was dangerous but she had to look at it positively, if he was that unhinged he probably would have hurt her already. So maybe he would come around if she was nice. “I was preparing lunch. Nothing fancy, just some plain deer meat with steamed vegetables. Do you want some?” she offered. At the mention of food his eyes lit up ever so slightly, even though he stayed silent. So that was a Yes. A small smile formed on her lips. “I still have some preparation to do, so it'll still take me some time to get the food ready. You can rest and I'll wake you up when I'm done.” Kanna proposed. Not waiting for an answer this time she turned her back to him once again and continued cutting the vegetables into small pieces.
Yea, as if he would rest now. That woman clearly wanted him to feel safe so he wouldn't be prepared when the Marines showed up. She was a bold one, to turn her back to him so carelessly. If only his head didn't hurt so badly. Her bed was… okay. But not as flashy as his bed back on the Big Top. Her bed was somewhat comfortable, though… and it wouldn't hurt to rest his head a little more. No! He didn't trust her. He couldn't let his guard down. Buggy looked around. Her cabin was basically one big room with the bed on the wall across from the front door and the kitchen cabinets and the stove next to the door. Near the center of the room was a table with two chairs, clearly intended for eating only, and in the furthest corner he spotted another small table with a very small and old stool beneath it. Stacks and stacks upon papers piled up on the corner table. Buggy noticed the lack of decoration, nothing fancy, no silver, no gold, nothing even remotely shiny, except… His eyes rested on a small display case hung on the wall next to the corner table. He ignored the pain in his head starting up again when he moved and jumped off the bed to examine the case further and walked towards it. Buggy detached his head to examine the contents up on the wall. It certainly was a set of throwing knives. They clearly had seen better days, but they had to have been expensive when they were new. They were the product of fine smithing craftsmanship, he could tell as much. When he heard something drop, he turned his floating head towards the origin of the sound.
Kanna couldn't believe her eyes. She had heard about Buggy's devil fruit powers, but to see them in action was different. She stared at Buggy's head floating in front of her weapon display. She should have hidden them. Kanna mentally smacked herself. She tried to still appear busy in case he would turn to look at her so she was hastily proceeding to cut some potatoes, but in her distracted state she accidentally cut her finger. The cutting knife dropped from her hand onto the floor. “Shit” she cursed out loud. Blood was already trickling from her left hand where the knife had left a moderately deep cut in her index finger. She quickly rinsed her injury with some water and got herself a clean piece of cloth from a rag hanging above the sink to press on her wound. When she looked up, she noticed that Buggy's eyes rested on her. His face was unreadable. “I’m sorry for cursing, I was just clumsy and cut myself. No big deal,” she gave a weak smile before hastily walking over to the table next to Buggy. Kanna opened one of the many drawers and took out some herbs and bandages. Even though it was just a small cut, she still didn’t want it to get infected. She rubbed the herbs between her thumb and index finger of her right hand until the leaves were leaking their fluids. Kanna discarded the bloodied cloth into a hamper nearby and pressed the herbs on to her cut. The painful sting the plant’s fluids were inflicting made her hiss, but she had to be quick to wrap it up before the blood started dripping onto her floor. She quickly wrapped the bandages around her finger and secured them with a little clip. That should do. Kanna had failed to notice Buggy watching her very intently, clearly interested in whatever she was doing. So when she looked up after tending to her wound and was almost face to face with Buggy's head she jumped. “So, you’re some kind of doctor or healer?” Buggy asked her, while turning his gaze towards the open drawer full of herbs, medicine and first aid utensils.

The Art of Pickling Red Chillies
Ingredients:
Fresh red chillies
Mustard seeds
Fenugreek seeds
Asafoetida (hing)
Turmeric powder
Salt
Mustard oil
Vinegar
Method:
1.   Prepare the Chillies:
Wash the red chillies thoroughly and pat them dry.
Remove the stems and slice the chillies lengthwise into halves or quarters, depending on your preference.  Be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands from the fiery heat of the chillies.
2.   Dry Roast the Spices:
In a dry pan, lightly roast the mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds until fragrant.  Allow them to cool, then grind them into a coarse powder using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.
3.   Prepare the Pickling Masala:
In a bowl, mix together the ground mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, turmeric powder, asafoetida, and salt to taste.  This aromatic masala will form the base of your red chilli pickle.
4.   Marinate the Chillies:
Place the sliced red chillies in a clean, dry glass jar.
Add the pickling masala to the jar, ensuring that the chillies are well-coated with the spice mixture.
5.   Add Vinegar and Oil:
Pour enough vinegar into the jar to cover the chillies completely.
Heat mustard oil in a pan until it reaches smoking point, then allow it to cool slightly.  Pour the cooled mustard oil over the chillies until they are fully submerged.
6.   Let it Mature:
Seal the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for at least a week to allow the flavors to meld and develop.  Your homemade red chilli pickle will continue to improve in flavor over time.
Why Make Your Own Red Chilli Pickle?

There are plenty of reasons why you're searching “how to whiten your teeth.” Perhaps you noticed your pearly whites are looking a little less pearly these days, or that your two-cups-of-coffee-a-day routine is leaving your chompers a little…latté-colored. Maybe your fit pics are going hard but you’re smizing in every one. Whatever brought you here, we know what you’re thinking: How can I whiten my teeth at home—and do those drugstore strips actually work?To get to the bottom of all things teeth whitening, we turned to Dr. Joyce Kahng, an award-winning cosmetic dentist who shares dental tips and combats misinformation on Instagram and TikTok to over half a million followers and counting. If you’re feeling confused by what works and what doesn’t, that’s probably because of how overcrowded the oral care aisle is with confusing labels. “There are so many products that are marketed to be ‘teeth whitening’ and most of them are probably actually not," says Dr. Kahng. That whitening mouthwash and “crystal-diamond-quadruple-white” toothpaste you’ve been banking on? Those are mainly cleaning up stains found on the outer surface of your teeth. Still a good thing, but true teeth whitening works from the inside out to actually change the color of your teeth. “We’re talking about removing those stains, breaking them up, and lifting them out of the teeth,” explains Kahng. If you’re looking to get results fast (say, for that wedding next weekend), then Dr. Kahng recommends an in-office treatment with a dentist, but she's also a “huge fan of over the counter whitening products.” Here, we’ll jump into everything you need to know about those pesky stains, the best ways to get results (including her favorite products), and how to make sure your chompers stay white in the long run.Where Do Stains Start? The white coat rule“If it would stain my white coat, it can stain your teeth–is what I tell my patients,” Dr. Kahng says. So yes, unfortunately, coffee, red wine, and a cheeky cig are some of many potential stainers. “They all go in the category of depositing stains on the outside of your teeth,” which, she helpfully clarifies, can be lifted off just by brushing your teeth—if you get to it soon enough. If you leave it, it’ll stainWhere you really get in trouble is when you leave those surface stains marinating, because once you let them sit on your teeth over a long period of time, “they actually get absorbed into the teeth and become more of those intrinsic stains,” warns Dr. Kahng. And that’s where the actual color of the teeth starts to dull or yellow.Age compounds stainingLike most things in life, the best time to start whitening your teeth was, well, yesterday. Because of the way that stains in the teeth build up and combine over time, decades of stains are going to take a lot longer to lift. “It’s a lot easier for a teenager to get a good result from basic over-the-counter strips than if you’re 80 years old,” Kahng notes. That said, also like most things in life, it’s never too late to get started as long as you can be patient.Your Whitening OptionsProfessional whitening treatmentsThink of an in-office treatment as the express lane to a brighter smile. In-office treatments pack a punch with gel that contains 35-40% hydrogen peroxide (compared to 6-15% you’ll find in at-home products). Dr. Kahng says the typical procedure takes between an hour to 90 minutes, and explains that your dentist will also use protective measures to keep your gums safe, and block off saliva (which actually deactivates hydrogen peroxide). "It's really creating the optimal environment for whitening, and that's why it is the fastest that you can whiten within a certain time frame,” says Kahng. So if you’re in a hurry or haven’t seen results at home, it’s time to book an appointment.At-Home Whitening Strips and TraysHere's where Dr. Kahng might surprise you: She also recommends over-the-counter options. "I think I'm one of the few dentists that actually really emphasizes my love for over-the-counter whitening products," she admits. Her philosophy? Consistency beats intensity. "It's like going to the gym—doing a little bit every day is better than one intense session." If you’re really trying to level up a whole shade, Kahng has her patients use strips every day for a week or two (with flexibility to skip days along the way if your teeth start to feel too sensitive). As for what product she recommends? Kahng has patients grab the Opalescence Go teeth whitening trays for their ease of use and relatively strong hydrogen peroxide content. (We also love Crest 3D Whitestrips here at GQ.)OpalescencePrefilled Teeth Whitening Trays KitCrest3D Whitestrips Professional Effects PlusHome Remedies? Not So MuchBad news for the DIY’ers among us: Most natural whitening methods aren't doing a whole lot. Baking soda and activated charcoal? They're just cleaning off surface stains in the same way tooth paste would. Coconut oil pulling? "Anecdotally, people say that helps, but scientifically, I don’t see it actually whitening the teeth from the inside out," Dr. Kahng explains. As for that brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your medicine cabinet? At 3%, it's too weak for teeth but too strong to be safe for gums—skip it.3 Expert Tips to Keep Your Teeth White1. Don’t expect permanent resultsSo you’ve put in the money and effort to get your teeth whitened, now you’re good right? Reality check: Those results aren't permanent. As soon as you start sipping on your next Diet Coke or pinot noir stains are liable to start cropping up again. "Teeth whitening is actually one of those journeys where it requires maintenance throughout your lifetime if you want to maintain a certain color," Kahng explains.2. Find your rhythmTo maintain a smile that you like, Dr. Kahng recommends developing a regular cadence for your whitening. So what is the doc’s personal routine? “For me, because I drink coffee and wine, I need to put in a whitening tray once a month and that’s enough to get me back to where I’m happy,” she says. As for toothpaste? Kahng uses a medium-high-grit whitening toothpaste only at night. Her faves at Opalescence have a good option in both regular and sensitive varieties.OpalescenceTeethWhitening ToothpasteOpalescenceTeethWhitening Toothpaste for Sensitive Teeth3. Don’t be so sensitiveSpeaking of sensitivity, it's normal to experience some discomfort—but it's temporary. "It's not forever. You will be sensitive, especially the first night, but then after that, it should get better with time," Kahng reassures. Her pro tip? Start using sensitivity toothpaste with an active ingredient of potassium nitrate or nanohydroxyapatite (talk about a mouthful!) before and after whitening.SensodyneExtra Whitening ToothpasteTwiceRemineralizing Toothpaste4. Whitening isn’t for everyoneNot everyone is a candidate for whitening. Dr. Kahng says to hold off if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have active cavities (get that taken care of first), or have veneers, crowns, or bridges–they won’t whiten anyway, and over time whitening products can mess with the surface glaze.Meet Our ExpertDr. Joyce Kahng's skills as a cosmetic and restorative dentist have made her a sought-after expert nationwide. Below the Surface: Substrates and Surface Preparation in Marine Coatings"
The global marine coatings market is estimated to be valued at US$ 12,662.7 million in 2021 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 6.5% over the forecast period (2021-2028).
Marine coatings play a critical role in protecting ships and offshore structures from the harsh and corrosive marine environment. These coatings not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of vessels but also provide a protective barrier against factors such as corrosion, fouling, and abrasion. The global marine coatings market has witnessed steady growth in recent years, driven by increasing maritime trade activities, the expansion of the shipping industry, and the need for sustainable and efficient coating solutions.
One of the primary drivers of the marine coatings market is the rise in global shipping activities. As international trade continues to grow, the demand for new vessels and maintenance of existing fleets has increased, leading to a higher demand for effective coatings that can withstand the corrosive effects of saltwater. Additionally, the offshore oil and gas industry, which relies heavily on marine structures, also contributes significantly to the demand for advanced coatings.
