I set my alarm as early as three for our sunrise hike. It should be the highlight of this experience goal. Should is a hint, right? Because unfortunately, heavy rains and howling winds greeted us a not-so-good morning. I hung on for another maybe. No dice. Sa lahat naman kasi ng araw na pwedeng umulan, bakit ngayon pa? Haha. Warning: Rant post ahead. Charot!

At six, when the brewing storm cooled off a bit and the sky’s clearer, we decided to hop in the van and get this rugged adventure started. Turned out, hindi naman pala kami ang nagiisang grupong makikipagsapalaran. So we carefully treaded the side rock of the beach and hiked up. Minutes before eight, we reached Binurong Point and after a few snaps, it began pouring. Ito ‘yung tipo ng ulan na nananakit. But at some point, I couldn’t care less. I just went over the edge and be there. I had Paps’ answer and though I wish it was a different one, I know He wants me to remember how to dance in the rain again this time. So I did—all drenched and awkward. And happy.

We descent, tidied up at Alon and had our lunch at Puraran Beach before leaving for Virac. This is another reason to come back: Surfing. Or at least, skimboarding. I really need to go on better days and ride these waves. Naks, I sound like a legit surfer. Hehe. We made some stopovers at Maribina Falls, PAGASA Station and St. John the Baptist Church on our way. The charming century-old church makes me think of our more than a decade-old friendship. It’s been rain or shine. It’s been through thick and thin. Thank You, Jesus.

Ang Catanduanes ay tahanan ng isang nakamamanghang beach at isla, lagoon, kuweba, talon at iba pang mga nakatagong hiyas na naghihintay lamang na madiskubre.

Ang lalawigan, ay matatagpuan sa heograpiya sa pinakamalayong bahagi ng Bicol rehiyon na kinakaharap sa Karagatang Pasipiko, ay tinawag na “The Land of the Howling Wind” isang kadahilanan – ito ay, mas madalas kaysa sa hindi, ay dito nagsisimula ang mga tropikal na bagyo na pumapasok sa bansa. Ang mga malalakas na hangin ay nagdadala ng malalaking mga alon sa mga baybayin nito, sa gayon binabago nito ang mga marilag na beach na perpekto para sa pag-surf, paglangoy o pamamasyal.

Binurong point

Ang malawak, maburol na tanawin na ito ay nagbago ng mga tungkulin sa paglipas ng panahon. ang mga isda ay naging sagana doon, na ang mga mangingisda ay ma-ingat na isinasalansan ang mga sariwang huling isda na may asin (buro) bago nila dalhin sa mainland. Kinakailangan nila ng maayos na pamamahala ng pagkain tulad ng binurong na isda, dahil ang lugar ay madaling kapitan ng bagyo.

Puraran Beach

Pronounced as Purar-an, this isolated cove in Baras town is famous for surfing. With swells from the Pacific, this is one of the top surfing destinations in the country.

Surf up mula Hulyo hanggang Oktubre sa baybayin ng Catanduanes Island, lalo na sa Majestic Puraran Beach Resort, tahanan ng “Majestic” surf break. a professional surfer will enjoy the huge right-hand barrel waves that come crashing on the coast during these months. Ang mga amateur o beginners ay maaaring subukan ang kanilang kamay sa pag-surf sa mga buwan ng Pebrero hanggang Hunyo, kapag kumalma ang mga alon.

Marvel at the Breath-taking Beauty of Nahulugan Falls

Ayon sa lokal na alamat, ang Nahulugan Falls ay pinangalanan sa isang magsasaka at ang kanyang carabao na nahulog habang tumatawid sa burol. Nagsimula ang tubig sa kaskad mula sa kung saan nahulog ang magsasaka at ang kanyang matapat na kasama. Hindi mahalaga kung ano ang tunay na pinagmulan nito, ang Nahulugan Falls ay isang majestic wonder ngkalikasan. Ang talon ay napapalibutan ng malagong kagubatan na nag-filter ng sikat ng araw, na nagbibigay ng lihim, at mahiwagang aura.

Fall in Love with Picture-Perfect Maribina Falls

Ang Maribina Falls sa Bato, Catanduanes, ay minamahal ng mga lokal at ito ang pinakapopular at pinakatanyag na talon ng isla. Ang pangalan nito ay mula sa pamamagitan ng pagsasama-sama ng mga pangalan ng dalawang barangay kung saan matatagpuan ang talon. Ang mga barangay Marinawa at Binanwahan. Ang tubig mula sa Talon ay bumabagsak na kaskad sa bundok sa isang serye ng mga pool na maaari mong pagliguan at paglangoyan.

Lumangoy sa Tranquil Waters ng Mamangal Beach

Sa may gawing kanan sa loob ng Virac ay ang pantay at magandang Mamangal Beach. Ang beach ay may linya ng mga puno kung saan maaari mong i-set up ang iyong sarong at humiga sa malilim na baybayin. Pag low tide, madali mong makita ang iba’t ibang mga damong-dagat sa pagitan ng buhangin na dinadala ng alon. Maaari ring maglagay ng plunge upang makita ang mga marine life sa baybayin ng Mamangal Beach.

Bisitahin ang the Jesus’ Face Rock sa Talisoy Beach

Matatagpuan sa isang maliit na cove ng ilang minuto mula sa bayan ng Virac ay ang malinis at maayos na pag-mintina ng Talisoy Beach, na kilala rin sa mga lokal bilang Jesus’s Face Beach dahil sa natatanging pagbuo o pagka ukit ng bato na sinasabing kamukhang kamukha ni Jesucristo. Sa kabila ng natatanging feature na ito, maaari ka ring sumisid sa pinong puting baybayin o lumangoy sa malinaw, mahinahon na tubig (ang seabed ay medyo mabato, kaya siguraduhin na magsuot ka ng mga aqua shoes kung nais mong sumisid at maglangoy).
