Villareal: Chapter 6, Part 5
Joey's night concludes and preparation for family brunch begins.
CW: Moderate sim spice. Content Warning Guide
Luna (mummy) and Devin (mama) use some German and Italian. Bambino/s (Italian) Male child/children Buongiorno (Italian) Good morning Caro (Italian) Dear Nonna/Nonno (Italian) Grandfather/Grandmother Piccolo (Italian) Little one Zia/Zio (Italian) Aunt/Uncle
Joey wakes up with a start. He’s lying on his bedroom floor?
Marianna: Are you okay?
Joey: Marianna? What happened? We were just…
Joey pushes himself up feeling very confused. He was just at the nightclub. He’s used to the quickness of loading screens but this was something different. His genius mind is telling him to remain calm and gather facts but his paranoid trait is panicking.
Marianna: See I’ve never actually teleported someone with me before, I think I had the calibration off so you kind of passed out
Joey: Passed out? Yeah but- did you say teleport?
Marianna: Yes, I hope you’re okay. I was just reading your mind and I saw your photos and I hoped you might want one of real me
Joey: Reading... my... mind?
Marianna: It’s a thing we can do
Joey: Who is we?
Marianna: Oh you know… aliens
Joey is taken aback. Aliens? He always knew they were real but the research on their abilities was spotty at best. Unsurprisingly they didn’t exactly offer themselves up for tests. And he’d just…
Joey: Oh please tell me I’m not pregnant. I can’t be pregnant
Marianna: What? No! I’m not one of those ones. I was left in a carrier myself, I wouldn’t do that to a kid. I just… I know I’m a bit older than the other women in the photos…
She looks at the wall and folds in on herself a bit.
Joey: You’re saying… you read my mind, and know that me and the watcher need to keep track of my numbers with photos… and you teleported us here… because you were nervous that I wouldn’t want a photo of you
Marianna: I thought… you seemed to enjoy our time together so… you might want a photo of what I actually look like
Joey: I’ve never seen an alien before, at least not that I know of. But if you felt enough of a connection when we were woohooing, I’d be honoured to see the real you
Marianna: *smiling* Don’t freak out
Joey tries his best to keep his face straight as Marianna stretches. She changes from the human outfit into a cozy sleepwear number in alien form. It happened so fast Joey isn’t sure he actually saw the change happen. He has so many questions! But he has to remember this is stressful for her to.
Joey: You look amazing. Your eyes are spectacular. Your skin… you were glowing earlier right?
Marianna: *giggles* yes. When our emotions get strong it can be hard to hide and you just… made me feel all kinds of things
Joey: Likewise
He grabs his camera out and gets a shot of her to join the others.
Joey: I’m glad you didn’t mind read about my photos and decide to teleport me into an incinerator
Marianna: *giggles* No! Your mind… You make love but you respect the ones you’re with. Not incinerator worthy
Joey smiles and moves towards her, taking one of her hands and sliding her closer to him.
Joey: I don’t suppose you in any way used your alien powers on the dating app
Marianna: *blushing* Maybe. But I swear I didn’t coerce you in person, and I double checked your mind before-
Joey cuts her off with a kiss. She puts her arms around his neck and relaxes into him. She may not have been his typical type but seeing her, talking to her, everything that happened in that nightclub was what he wanted. Heck, he was glad she thought him worth messing with an app for.
Marianna: Why
Joey: Hmm?
Marianna: Why are you glad about that
Joey: Oh, mind reading. I guess I’m flattered my profile was attractive enough to warrant your effort. Can I give you a proper thanks?
Marianna: You did in the club
Joey: *whispers* Read my mind. You’ll see I can do better if you'd like to go again
Smiling Marianna uncurls herself from him and lets him unbutton her shirt and slide her pants off.
Joey: How did you change outfits anyway
Marianna: Oh that outfit was connected to my disguise. Remove the disguise and I can be wearing something else entirely
On his knees now Joey looks up at her.
Joey: Call me biased but I think you look breathtaking wearing nothing at all
Before she can reply Joey pulls her close and lets his mouth go to work. He is intrigued with the noises she makes. He thought he’d heard most of what women could sound like but the alien tone of her voice was something new. When she seems wet enough he stands up and she helps him out of his clothes. He thinks about what they could do next…
Marianna: The third option sounds good
Joey: *laughs* Try to stop reading my mind and just be in the moment
Joey hadn’t thought he’d be interested in woohoo with an alien but his time with Marianna was making him rethink his stance. A woman is a woman after all, and Marianna certainly had experience. He tried to hold out but with those alien vocals she got him to release even quicker than the last time.
Marianna: *softly* don’t worry, I take it as a compliment
Giving him a final kiss Marianna begins to redress while Joey cleans up. Unfortunately his paranoid brain still hasn’t settled down.
Marianna: Joey, I haven’t impregnated you. Relax
Joey: Is it okay if I like, tell people…
Marianna: *laughs* You’ll have a photo of me on your wall, I’m fairly sure they’ll believe you woohoo’d an alien
Joey walks her to the front door and watches her go, again somehow missing her changing back into her human disguise even though he never took his eyes off her. Pondering the events of the night he locks up and heads to bed, hoping he’ll be able to get enough sleep to put in an appearance at family brunch.
The sun rises alongside Luna and Devin. In the room next to theirs two toddlers yawn and greet the day, racing each other to their potties.
While Luna tackles some chores that need doing Devin and Joey pull together to prepare brunch. While Joey works on bagels Devin sorts out place settings.
Devin: Did you have a good night
Joey: I did! I woohoo’d an alien
Devin: *dubiously* How much did you drink
Joey: I’m serious! I’ll show you the photo later
Devin: It’s not an in action shot is it? Because I love you but there are limits
Joey: No! But it’s got me thinking, there must be other occults out there
Devin: Focus on the *Joey spills stuff* food…
Joey: Don’t panic, I’ll clean it up
Devin: I’ll give you a hand when I’m finished this
Joey: But like I was saying, since aliens do exist on earth some of the other stories must be true
Devin: What stories? Some of us spent our time learning Shakespeare not becoming cryptozoologists
Joey: I wouldn’t woohoo bigfoot! Unless you know bigfoot had a hot human woman form... But if I could land a mermaid, a vampire and say… a werewolf, then I could be the most experienced sim in game! Like how many other sims could claim that achievement?
Devin: Dream big little brother. How’s your game coming
Joey: Slowly, I’ve put the beta out and I’m waiting for reports from play testers. Should be ready for a final polish after brunch though
Devin: If you need someone who doesn’t understand video games to test I’m happy to help
Joey: *laughs* That’s not a terrible idea sis
Devin: It’s my idea, of course it’s great
The sound of wobbly footsteps can be heard in the corridor, the twins are up.
Joey: Uh oh, here comes trouble
Devin: Buongiorno bambinos! Did you not feel like sleeping in
Alfred: No mama. We be awake for family
Rilian: Yes. Nonno and Nonna coming?
Devin: Absolutely. Did you two get dressed all by yourselves
The twins beam and chatter over each other excitedly before sitting down by the counters and spending time on their tablets.
Devin: That’s the table set. I’ve pushed the high chairs into the hall so we can all fit. Alfred, Rilian, are you okay with sitting on the bench?
Twins: *too engrossed in screens to reply*
Devin: I’ll take that as yes. Are your bagels finished yet
Joey: Not just yet. Trust the process, they’ll be good
Devin walks over to her sons hoping that they’ll listen more the closer she is to them.
Devin: Any requests for breakfast?
Alfred: Cereal!
Devin: Caro we have cereal when we don’t have guests. On Sundays we get nice breakfasts. Rilian?
But Devin’s picky eater is ignoring the question about food.
Devin: Mama could make… omelettes, French toast, pancakes-
Alfred: Yes!
Devin: Pancakes, si? Oh looks like Zio Joey has finished making bagels for us. What do we say?
Alfred: Thank you Zio Joey
Rilian: Thanks Zio
Devin: That’s my bambinos. Mama is so proud of you remembering your manners
Rilian: Mama tell Mummy?
Devin: Si, I will tell Mummy
Joey: When did this stereo break? I swear it was working when I left last night
Devin: I figured you’d probably be the best one to fix it
Joey: *starts fixing* And what if I get electrocuted?
Devin: You know tech, you’ll be fine
Rilian: Go Zio Joey!
Alfred: Zio can do!
Joey: I suppose. Gosh I hope Deanna is getting better at her robots, she got fried last time I visited
Devin: She enjoys tinkering, I guess some zaps are the price to pay. Okay bambinos, mama’s going to make the pancakes

The best haunted roads in Central Florida
It's spooky season!
While you're waiting for fright night to arrive, there are plenty of things you can do - horror movie marathons, Halloween events at the theme parks, and scary attractions all over Orlando. However, if you're looking for a low-key way to get into the spirit of the season, why not plan a haunted road trip? Check out guide to some of the most harrowing haunted roads in Central Florida, and don't forget your ghost-hunting gear.
Road #1: I-4
I-4 is a nightmare even outside of spooky season, but did you know there's a section of it that's legit haunted? It's called the "I-4 Dead Zone" and is one of the most infamous haunted roads in America. This stretch of highway near Sanford is haunted by German settlers who passed away from Yellow Fever back in the 1800s. The highway was supposedly built over their graves, and drivers report spooky sensations like ghostly voices on their phones and radios as well as orbs of light and phantom hitchhikers on the side of the road. Further, this stretch of I-4 is also known for the many car accidents that happen there.
Road #2: The Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa
Head west to Tampa for this haunted road - it's worth the drive. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is one of the most haunted spots near Orlando. People report seeing a ghost bus in the water and smelling the odor of gas, sourceless lights floating in the water, and a ghostly woman in white who hitchhikes her way across the bridge. It's scary in real life, too - in 1980 a freighter hit the bridge, killing more than 30 people, and over 200 people have jumped from the bridge since it was built. No matter which way you slice it, this haunted road is one for the books.
Road #3: Bellamy Bridge Road
This is one of the haunted roads up in the Panhandle - a drive from Orlando but again, worth it. Bellamy Bridge Road is a bridge in Marianna that spans the Chipola River. Supposedly, it's haunted by Elizabeth Jane Bellamy. She passed away but never left, and visitors report seeing dark shapes in the woods, a ball of fire descending out of the sky and through the bridge, and a ghostly young woman wandering the surrounding swamps.
More haunted roads in Florida to explore
Want more haunted roads to explore for your Halloween road trip? here are a few more suggestions:
Alligator Alley: This span of highway in South Florida is the site of plane crashes, murders, and more - expect to see supernatural stuff when you drive it at night.
Spook Hill: Spook Hill is located in Lake Wales and is famous for the fact that if you park and put your car in neutral at the base of it, your car will roll UP the hill. Some claim it's an optical illusion but.... do we REALLY know?
People have even reported seeing apparations, feeling cold spots, and hearing weird noises while driving on Colonial Drive and Alafaya Drive in Orlando.
Find the right Toyota for your haunted road trip at Toyota of Orlando
Explore those haunted roads safely - do it from behind the wheel of a new Toyota! Toyota of Orlando is open and ready to help you make the most of spooky season. Visit us today at 3575 Vineland Road!

Hello, I am a follower of your blog and I enjoy your publications a lot! There's a biography of Empress Maria Alexndrovna? I find her so interesting. Thank you!
Hello! I too find Empress Maria Alexandrovna to be a fascinating, albeit tragic, figure. Sadly, there are no English-language biographies as of yet, but if you read German, there is “Die Hessin auf dem Zarenthron: Maria, Kaiserin von Russland” by Marianna Butenschön. Also, I am so glad to hear that you enjoy my blog 😊

A reader sent this in without a comment. This was a rather famous crime in Poland that some used and blamed the Ukrainians when they had nothing to do with it. This was a 1923 crime in Poland during the economic crisis that engulfed the whole region with hyperinflation, which stemmed also from Germany. Unemployment was massive and the economy was in shambled. There was a band of “Roma” gypsies who were stealing food and animals in villages across Poland. Marianna Dolinska was 32 at the time with four children. In December 1923, her husband was arrested, leaving Marianna and her four children with no support. This was the period when many peasants’ children died of starvation. Marianna was distraught and assumed that she and her children would die of starvation. On December 11th, 1923, Marianna hung all four of her children with the same rope by tying it around the base of a tree trunk in the woods near Antoniowka. The next day, Marianna went to the police station in Kozlow, confessed to the murder of her children, and led investigators back to the tree where their bodies were hanging.
A police photographer took the photo you see here. The case became one of the most high-profile criminal cases in the Second Polish Republic. However, this photo was used on the cover of a book containing photographs depicting crimes by the Ukranian Insurgent Army (UPA) entitled Ludobojstwo UPA na Ludnosci Polskiej (which translates: Genocide Against the Polish Population by UPA). This was from 1923 – not 1943. It did not reflect the Massacre of Poles in Volhynia, which began in March of 1943 and ended in 1944. The estimated civilians that were ethnically cleansed by the Ukraians was between 35,000 and 60,000 Polish people. The majority were women and children.
This photo was misused for it did not reflect the crimes of the Ukrainians and the UPA’s Massacre of Poles in Volhynia,
which was so horrible it even shocked the Germans.

Villareal: Chapter 6, Part 4
Devin and Luna finish their date while Joey has a night on the town.
CW: Moderate sim spice. Content Warning Guide
Luna and Devin use some German and Italian. Amore (Italian) Love Schatz (German) Treasure
Devin: I love seeing you happy
Luna: Me to schatz. Now, do we need to do anything about the dollhouse
Devin: I fixed it
Luna: Yes but Rilian lied to me about it and Alfred smashed it in the first place
Devin: I guess we’ll need to talk to them about lying eventually but I don’t want to be too hard, after all he was only trying to cover for his brother. The destructive toddler is more tricky
Luna: Lies and cheating are normal for kids their age I suppose. And if I think, it’s unlikely Alfred means the destruction maliciously
Devin: We can afford to replace whatever he breaks but I don’t think that’s a good way to raise him long term. When will they be able to understand consequences
Luna: They’re old enough to start noticing cause and effect but consequences don’t make sense unless they immediately follow the action so… not yet
Devin: I’m so glad I got a smart wife
Luna: It’s basic developmental psychology
Devin: Amore mio, nothing about you is basic
Luna: *laughs* Thank you
The waiter returns, placing their ordered food and drinks in front of them.
Devin: This looks good! Not as good as your placemat but still
Luna: I guess it’s time to see if they are any good here
Devin: I don’t know, that host could use some practice at her role
Luna: Maybe she’s just nervous talking to all the celebrities
Devin: Maybe. She could take some acting classes though, I mean this is Del Sol Valley. There’s so many actors here, how did one of them not get hired
Luna: Not sure, maybe they were afraid of the indoor pools
Devin: What, the fountains?
Luna: They’re too deep for fountains I think. Plus over there some patrons are actually jumping in
Devin: *raises glass* To those brave enough to pack swimwear under formal wear
Luna bursts into a fit of giggles and the pair take turns having a bite off each other’s plates.
Devin: This is not as great as it looks. It looks so good but the flavour is just… not here
Luna: You sure that’s not just your refined palate talking
Devin: Amore, far more than my palate is refined
Luna: It’s your own fault really for making excellent pasta
Devin: And you and Joey for making excellent baking
Luna: Oh, that reminds me, when you were out on your run the twins were playing with their food truck stuff, it was adorable
Devin: Aww! Did you take a photo
Luna: Better, I got a video
Devin: Yes! Show it to me when we’re home okay? I don’t see any of my friends with cameras but you can never be too sure
Luna: Are the paparazzi our friends
Devin: They agree not to post any photos of the kids so I’d say so. You know some places there are no social norms against it
Luna: Really?
Devin: Yeah. Some paparazzi will battle it out for shots of babies and toddlers to put in magazines. Some places have had to make it illegal to take photos of a minor. Thank the watcher Del Sol Valley is not that kind of place
The pair finish up their meal, pay their bill and get set to head home. Technically they still have Joey on babysitting for another half hour. They decide to sneak to their bedroom for some alone time before Joey hands back the twins to enjoy his Saturday night.
Having browsed the profiles in the area Joey has found one he’s intrigued by. As normal he only goes for profiles of women that indicate they don’t want anything serious or long term. This one is a bit older than the average women he’s with, but something about her makes him accept the match and agree to meet at the local nightclub.
Joey: Marianna?
Marianna: Joey? I didn’t think you’d be as young as your profile picture. Most people on here use an older photo. I once had a “35 year old” who turned out to be 50!
Joey: I hope I’m an improvement. You look every bit as good as your picture
Marianna: Flattery will get you everywhere. Although I am surprised you accepted my match, I figured I’d be too old for you
Joey: Age is just a number, normally one not too tied to experience
Marianna: *laughs* Well I’ve certainly had experience
Joey: I’ll do my best to keep up
Marianna laughs as a blush spreads across her cheeks. For a moment Joey wonders if it’s all of her that has blushed as she almost looks like she’s in a pink haze. That idea seems to be pushed from his mind as soon as he thinks it though. He shakes his head to try get his bearings back.
Joey: Marianna, we are at a nightclub. Would you care to dance?
Marianna: I’d love to
The pair head inside and Joey feels himself relax. He’s a bro, places like this are a second home for him. Initially the two dance around each other but following a few drinks Marianna pulls Joey over to one of the small loveseats surrounding the floor to give him a dance of his own. Joey thinks she’s glowing in these lights, and again that though disappears as quickly as it appeared.
Marianna: Forget small talk, let’s find somewhere quieter
Joey: Are you sure? We could go back to my place
Marianna: No, I don’t want to wait that long
There’s plenty of small pockets of space snaking off the dancefloor and Joey and Marianna find one that’s quiet but where they can still hear the beat of the DJ booth. Marianna pulls her top off and Joey stares at her chest in delight. Before he can make a move however she jerks his chin up and looks him in the eyes. He feels his mind sharpen.
Marianna: Are you okay with us doing this
Joey finds himself thinking back on his past hook ups, few of which could be called conventional. Yeah, he wants to do this. He’s just about to start explaining that he’s aromantic and absolutely consents when Marianna smiles and leans in to kiss him deeply and passionately. Almost like she’s read his mind. The focus goes away and again he’s swept up in his desire.
Joey is glad of the chance to feel her properly. Despite the age starting to show on her face she obviously kept herself fit.
Joey: You are beautiful
Marianna: And you are hard
She presses down firmly causing him to jerk up in response. Watcher he wants her so bad. As if in a dream he watches her undress fully and finds himself wondering if they’ll be seen, but again that thought vanishes. Marianna removes his pants and Joey is glad to find himself unconstricted as she turns and slides on to him. Joey thinks all kinds of words that his parents would scold him for using as she moves herself back and forth. All he can utter however are moans, getting more and more lost in the moment. He opens his eyes at the change in pressure only to see Marianna smiling between his legs. When she’s finished Joey pulls her in for a kiss. Before he can thank her he feels his senses dull and his vision go black.
Hi friends! You may be confused but since it's a semi cliff hanger I'd just like to assure you Joey consented to that woohoo and he is not going to get assaulted in the next part so... try not to freak out even though he's unconscious.

History of Barbie
youtube
"Someday I'm gonna be, exactly like you… till then… I’ll make that believe I am you.”
Above is a line from Barbie's first ever TV advertisement in 1959.
The year that released Mattel's most significant and long-lasting creation.
Barbie was created by Ruth Marianna Handler and her husband Eliot along with Mattel in 1945.
Ruth Handler is a co-founder of Mattel and served as the company's first president from 1945 to 1975.
Origin Story;
Watching her daughter Barbara play with paper dolls, Ruth noticed that she often enjoyed giving them adult roles.
As most children's toy dolls were representations of infants at the time, she realized there was a gap in market.
Handler's idea of creating an adult-bodied doll was not well received by her husband and Mattel's directors.
During a trip to Europe in 1956 she came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli.
The Lilli doll was based on a popular character appearing in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Die Bild-Zeitung.
As the adult-figured Lilli doll was similar to Handler's original idea, she took inspiration and reworked the design of the doll with help from engineer Jack Ryan.
The doll was given the name "Barbie" after her daughter Barbara and was released at the American International Toy Fair In New York on March 9, 1959.
Mattel acquired the rights to the Bild Lilli doll in 1964 and production of Lilli was stopped
The first Barbie doll wore a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and signature topknot ponytail, and was available as either a blonde or brunette. The doll was marketed as a "Teen-age Fashion Model," with her clothes created by Mattel fashion designer Charlotte Johnson.
The first Barbie dolls were manufactured in Japan and around 350,000 dolls were sold during the first year of production.
Barbie was one of the first toys to have a marketing strategy based extensively on television advertising.
Today the Barbie line is responsible for more than 80% of Mattel's profits.

Ruth Handler, one of the co-founders of one of the biggest toy businesses in the world, Mattel, Inc., created the iconic Barbie doll. The idea for Barbie came to Ruth Handler when she noticed her daughter, Barbara, playing with paper dolls and giving them adult roles. Ruth Handler recognized that there was a gap in the toy market for dolls that represented adult women, rather than just baby dolls. The German Bild Lilli doll, which was based on a risqué comic strip character, inspired Ruth Handler and her husband Elliot Handler to produce a more opulent and sophisticated doll for the US market. In 1959, Mattel introduced the Barbie doll at the American International Toy Fair in New York City. The Barbie doll was named after Ruth Handler's daughter, Barbara, and it was marketed as a teenage fashion model. The doll had a slim figure with an adult woman's proportions, which was quite different from the baby dolls available at the time. Barbie's design was a departure from traditional toy dolls, and she quickly gained popularity among children and collectors alike. Throughout the years, Barbie has undergone various transformations, reflecting changing cultural attitudes and trends. She has represented diverse careers, fashion styles, and cultural backgrounds, becoming a symbol of empowerment and aspiration for many young girls around the world. Despite some controversies and criticism over the years, Barbie remains one of the most recognizable and influential dolls globally, and her impact on popular culture and the toy industry is significant. Creator of Barbie Ruth Marianna Handler was an American entrepreneur and inventor who lived from November 4, 1916, to April 27, 2002. She co-founded the toy firm Mattel with her husband, Elliot, and is best known for creating the Barbie doll in 1959. She also served as the organization's first president from 1945 to 1975. Elliot tried his hand at building furniture as a pastime. He made the decision to use Lucite and Plexiglas, two new types of plastic, for their furniture. He started doing this for profit at Ruth Handler's suggestion, and together they started a furniture company. Ruth Handler served as the company's sales representative and won contracts with companies like Douglas Aircraft Corporation and others. Birth of Iconic Barbie Doll As Ruth observed her daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls, she frequently loved giving the dolls adult duties. The majority of children's play dolls at the time were depictions of infants. She pitched her husband, Elliot, the concept of an adult-bodied doll after realizing there might be a market gap. Ruth discovered a German doll named Bild Lilli while traveling through Europe in 1956 with her kids, Barbara and Kenneth. Ruth knew exactly what she wanted, and she bought three of the adult-figured dolls. One was given to her daughter, and she returned the rest to Mattel. The Lilli doll was based on a well-known figure from a satirical comic strip made by Reinhard Beuthin. In spite of being primarily targeted at adults, the Lilli doll quickly gained popularity among kids, who loved dressing her up in separate clothing after it was first introduced to the market in Germany in 1955. Barbie was given a new name after Handler's daughter Barbara after Ruth modified the doll upon her return to the United States with assistance from local inventor-designer Jack Ryan. Barbie made her debut on March 9, 1959, at the American International Toy Fair in New York City. Within a year, Mattel sold 351,000 dolls. Subsequently, the Handlers and Mattel expanded the cast of characters by adding many more, including Ken, named after the Handlers' son, as Barbie's lover. "Nearly Me" another Invention In 1970, Handler received a breast cancer diagnosis. She underwent a modified radical mastectomy to treat this, which was a common treatment at the time to treat the illness. Handler made her own breast prosthesis after having trouble finding a satisfactory one.
Peyton Massey, Handler's new business partner, helped her create Ruthton Inc., under which she produced "Nearly Me," a more accurate replica of a woman's breast. Betty Ford, the first lady at the time, had one personally fitted for her because of how well-liked this invention was. On April 27, 2002, at the age of 85, Handler passed away in California as a result of complications from colon cancer surgery. Elliot, her spouse of nine years, passed away at age 95.In the 2023 movie Barbie, played by Rhea Perlman, Handler is presented as an elderly spirit who lives at the Mattel headquarters in Los Angeles and aids the main character, a stereotypical Barbie model.

“Joseph Churchward was born on 20 August 1933 in Apia, Western Samoa, the only child of Mary Coe and George Charles Churchward. Churchward was raised in Samoa by his paternal grandparents. In 1946, aged 13, Churchward travelled to Auckland with his grandmother and cousin. Became a naturalised New Zealand citizen in 1951.”
“Churchward joined Charles Haines Advertising Agency Ltd as a junior commercial artist on an internship; he was to stay with the firm for nine years. In 1962 Churchward left Charles Haines and set up Churchward’s Lettering Service, later Churchward International Typefaces (CIT). He specialised in creating alphabet fonts by hand, making detailed pencil sketches to measure the size, shape and impact of each letter, then tracing and inking enlarged images onto cardboard boards.”
“He ‘forged his own alphabets by reinterpreting the familiar forms of his daily work and endowing them with influences from his culture and surroundings’. He named some of his fonts after family members – the 1969 Churchward Marianna typeface, for example, was named for his six-year old-daughter, who was known as ‘plumpy’“
“Churchward’s most popular font, Churchward 69, propelled him into the international market. The highly regarded German typeface foundry H. Berthold AG purchased his fonts for use in publications around the world. Churchward became the first New Zealander to have a ‘licensed original alphabet”
