Shanoa’s Real Identity and Richter’s Fate
Could Each Lingering Mystery Answer The Other?
Okay this is completely crazy but the more I stare at it, the more sense it makes, and as much as this is highly unlikely, I just have to share it with other fans!
Please bear with my Pepe Silvia-esque ramblings.
Can we talk about Order of Ecclesia, Mac? I’ve been dying to talk about Ecclesia.
So there’s two burning questions that have been bothering me for a long time.
What happened to Richter Belmont?
Who is Shanoa, really?
And the other day I had a revelation that might be able to answer both. However, it’s completely crazy and I was scared to share it in case people hated it. But I just have to talk about it with someone, so here goes, I guess.
Let’s start with question 1.
What happened to Richter?
Missing: Have you seen this man? Responds to “miserable little pile of secrets”.
According to canon, Richter disappeared shortly after SOTN, taking the Belmont bloodline with him. Vampire Killer was instead passed on to the Morris family and another Belmont would not be seen again until Julius Belmont in the 1990s.
Fans have long speculated the reasons why Richter and the Belmont line would simply disappear. There are two prominent fan explanations:
A. He was too ashamed after being possessed and gave up on vampire hunting as penance.
B. He was too afraid for his loved ones after being possessed and nearly losing Annette and decided to retire his family from the job.
He already told her twice! You turn into a vampire, you get the pyre. Turn into a succubus, you get thrown under the bus.
Trouble is, neither is particularly convincing, is it? Belmonts have been dealing with this sort of thing for generations and it hasn’t slowed them down before. Richter is one of the most powerful of all the Belmonts, as well as one of the most confident. It seems unlikely he would be discouraged by standard occupational hazards in the family business.
But what if there was a far more concrete explanation? One that Iga simply never got to elaborate on because his last game was Order of Ecclesia.
Which brings us to…
Who is Shanoa?
Shanoa has amnesia. It’s a significant plot point that she doesn’t know who she really is or where she came from. The true ending implies she gets her memories back, but it’s never revealed to the audience.
She looks awfully happy to have her memories back! Surely Konami will show the audience after we worked so hard to get them for her. Right? Riiiiight? Not like they have something to hide for a sequel they’ll never make!
So what can we determine? Let’s look at what we know.
Shanoa was created to fight Dracula and vampires because the Belmonts disappeared (allegedly. In reality she was being used to revive Dracula).
Shanoa has an adoptive brother named Albus who was supposedly experimenting with Belmont blood taken from distant descendants in Wygol village.
Shanoa works for an older man named Barlowe (who is later revealed to actually be trying to revive Dracula and was planning to sacrifice Shanoa).
Her game takes place sometime in the early 1800s.
Her English voice is Michelle Ruff.
So what can we glean from all this?
Here is my insane crack theory.
Shanoa is Maria Renard
I know, I know, it’s crazy. Hear me out!
How it All Connects
Oh sure. Alucard becomes “Genya Arikado” and no one bats an eye. Maria becomes Shanoa and everyone loses their minds!
It first started with the simple curiosity that Michelle Ruff voiced both Maria and Shanoa in English. Now this isn’t evidence of anything because voice actors play multiple roles all the time. But it did get me thinking.
The Order of Ecclesia was only created because Richter Belmont disappeared. So where did he go? And where did Barlowe come from?
Here’s my speculation: Barlowe either is a successor to, or actually is a new identity for, Shaft himself! I’m going with “successor” since Shaft had all those creepy cultist priests that served him.
“Always two, there are; A master and an apprentice!”
Look at the similarities:
—Wants to revive Dracula through a dark ritual. —Plans to sacrifice a girl to do it by unlocking her magical potential. —Has the exact same attacks as Shaft: Fire orbs, ricochet orbs, lightning orbs, that bouncy ball attack, etc.
And who did Shaft want to sacrifice this way last time he got up to these shenanigans? Maria Renard.
Last time this unlocked her magical potential. It’s no surprise that Shanoa is similarly enhanced. What’s interesting though is that Shanoa is a uniquely qualified candidate, as Barlowe believes that Albus isn’t as suited for the role as Shanoa despite Albus volunteering to take her place. What’s so special about Shanoa anyway?
Could it be because she’s already had part of the ritual performed on her before?
Her name is also interesting. Shanoa is a corruption of the French “Chat Noire” meaning “black cat”. Maria is associated with animals already and her last name is French for “Fox”. Maria is also canonically considered a witch. What do some witches turn into in SOTN when they’re low on health? Black cats.
The Salome Witch’s sprites in SOTN. They turn into cute black kitties when you fight back. Dastardly!
Could it be that Barlowe kidnapped Maria Renard with the intent to finish the job Shaft started? Is this the real purpose behind wiping her memories, and the stated cause of her amnesia merely an excuse?
But let’s put a pin in Shanoa for a moment and look at another suspicious character: Albus.
Albus is the Key
Shanoa about to steal Albus’ sweet vest because that open back dress looks COLD to be standing on misty magical castle steps in the middle of the night.
Maria about to put flowers on Richter’s grave if he keeps flexing on Dracula.
Albus is Shanoa’s adoptive brother.
Not her biological brother.
Not her best friend.
He is specifically her adoptive brother. Why? There’s no mention of either of their families. Why this specific categorization?
Albus cares very deeply for Shanoa. Despite being wrongfully demonized and having Shanoa sent after him, Albus to the end self sacrifices in an attempt to save her. Why does he care about her so much?
Unless of course, we have it backwards. He doesn’t call her his adoptive sister because he wants to save her. He wants to save her because she’s his adoptive sister.
Who has an adoptive brother (or brother-in-law in one weird translation) relationship with Maria?
Richter Belmont.
What is it with you people thinking hair dye makes you unrecognizable?
How does Albus so easily find descendants with Belmont blood when no one can even find Richter?
It’s easy if you are a Belmont and know your family history. (Simon probably left a lot of bastards in Wygol. Gigachad that he was.)
Closer inspection reveals Albus has those Richter Belmont stunning-blue eyes!
Why does having all the villagers saved allow Albus to sacrifice himself to save Shanoa? It’s as if the Belmont blood of the villagers resonated with him at the end. But why would it? Unless he is a Belmont himself.
Could Albus be Richter going undercover to find out what happened to Maria? Only to discover the situation was too dire to easily leave until he stopped Barlowe’s plans? Is this why Albus offers to take Shanoa’s place in the ritual? Was it planned sabotage? And did Barlowe send Albus on a wild goose chase because he was catching on?
Seriously, even their “evil” looks share a resemblance. Too much smudgy eye-liner, for one.
So why did Richter Belmont disappear?
Because Albus died to save Shanoa.
Presumably, he left Annette behind with child and this is the line Julius is descended from. Annette simply went into hiding after Richter didn’t return.
Order of Ecclesia takes place in the early 1800s so it’s well within their lifespans.
If true, I wonder if Maria/Shanoa returned to Alucard after. Perhaps her altered hair inspired Alucard to change his own color to black as well for his Genya alias.
It’s not just a phase, and no you can’t sit with us!
Thank you for reading!

i've seen a lot of different takes on post-canon anya's career/life over the years in various fics, so i was wondering...
#anastasia#anastasia broadway#anastasia musical#dimya#before y'all yell at me for only including traditionally 'feminine' jobs:#i just think she would benefit from playing with children or spending time with other women after the trauma she has endured okay!!#she needs girly girls to hang out with and women to look up to!!#and the last one i feel like we needed a government work option#idk if she would choose that instead of staying anonymous and off the radar#but i do think she would be passionate about helping refugees#as one herself#so i feel like it's a plausible option#but yeah i included what i've seen the most of#in canonverse fics anyway#modern au is a whole different story aklsdhf

Top 15 my favorite Castlevania characters
No. 15: Joachim Armster
• I feel bad for him, I really do but I'm not conected to the character a lot.
No. 14: John Morris
• Awsome character, but I wish I had known him a lot.
No. 13: Alucard
• A neutral feeling about him, I don't understand his hype as a character, but in the plot of most of games is okay.
No. 12: Maria Renard
• I'm attached to both young and old versions, but I wished that she and Alucard are just friends and not too much shiped.
No. 11: Mathias Cronqvist
• This bastard could be a little better if at least didn't used Leon and others for his plan of revenge.
No. 10: Richter Belmont
• I have a small atachment for him but his characterization in Nocturne of Recollection did better at the same level as Rondo of Blood.
No. 9: Sara Trantoul
• This friged woman is the one who has the most kills in the fanchise (after Dracula), but she went from a damsel in distress to a badass weapon in the history, but my love for her never died.
No. 8: Eric Lecarde
• This man is to me a symbol between feminity and masculinity (if you look in Japanese and American/European versions), but he is cool with Alucard's Spear then if Alucard used himself.
No. 7: Trevor Belmont
• This Mr. Legs has to be like of of the most cocky people that I ever saw in games and his level of sassiness around Hector in CoD gives a different energy.
No. 6: Hector
• This man has all my confort in the world. His relationship with Rosalie is really cute, but his revenge against Isaac was almost his downfall, if Julia didn't tell him.
No. 5: Shanoa
•My favorite girl of all times. Like Hector, she has all my confort in the world. She was like a weapon to Ecclesia, until she learned Barlowe's true intentions.
No. 4: Soma Cruz
• This man has the bad luck to have Dracula's powers and being his reincarnation. He is like a survivor of Dracula's influence and I'm proud of my boy.
No. 3: Walter Bernhard
• I'm moraly questionable when it came to this bastard because I like him. He was chill about his game and all victims that died. I have to admit that he is the only vampire in the series that I really like.
No. 2: Leon Belmont
• My sunshine that didn't deserved all that pain. Just like Shanoa and Hector, he has my confort in the world and I would stuck around him like a koala, just to hug him.
No. 1: Juste Belmont
• My favorite Belmont and character in the entire franchise. I can relate to him more in everyday life, which explains why I like him then the rest of characters.

1476 + 1479: Trevor & co kills Dracula. Dracula "with his final words" cursed Wallachia with intend that humans would obliterate themselves. Also to resurrect Dracula unless that was Death's own plan. Hector kills Dracula and "transform [the curse] into something harmless"
1576 + 1591: Christopher defeats Dracula, Dracula feints death and later possesses Christopher's son Soleil (may have possessed Soleil as a fetus???) so Christopher has to fight Dracula again to actually kill him.
1691 + 1698: Simon kills Dracula. Dracula curses Simon and Wallachia, so Simon has to gather Dracula's remains to end the curse. Kills Dracula again for good measures.
1748: Maxim in attempt to relieve of Juste's fate gathers the remains of Dracula and accidentally resurrect castle or intended to but things go horrible wrong. Juste defeats Maxim and Dracula (Wraith)
1792 + 1797: Shaft and cultist resurrect Dracula. Richter & Maria kills Dracula. Dracula tries "Oh, you say I'm evil, but human resurrected me so who is the real evil?", Richter and Maria gives no fucks. Ghost of Shaft curses and possesses Richter, Alucard wakes up and saves Richter, kills Shaft and Dracula. Also tells Dracula Lisa's last words.
18xx: Order of Ecclesia supposedly research how to kill Dracula when the Belmonts are missing, when actually Barlowe the leader wants to resurrect to Dracula. He does, and Shanoa kills Dracula.
1917: Drolta resurrects Elizabeth and Elizabeth uses the ww1 to resurrect Dracula. John and Eric kills Dracula & co.
1944: Brauner uses ww2 to resurrect Dracula's castle but prevents Dracula from being resurrected to control the castle. Jonathan & Charlotte defeats Brauner, Death uses the opportunity to resurrect Dracula. J & C kills them both.
1999: Hakuba seals the castle in a solar eclipse and Julius kills Dracula for the last time.
After Simon kills Dracula for the second time, Dracula stop with the curses (or just pretending to die with C) after death. Clearly he had enough beatings after Simon's second win. If he's killed he seems to be "Eh, I had my run" Even with Richter he is already "You humans keep resurrecting me!", though meant in a Humans Are The Real Evil.
#castlevania#akumajou dracula#I know I skipped Quincy's story#but I don't Castlevania events would be identical to the book or even similar so we don't know how it went other than Quincy killed Dracul

Meanwhile, Captain Flint faces a potential mutiny from his crew and must work to secure their support. The Captain recruits his first mate Billy Bones' help to overthrow the mutineer's leader, Singleton. Meanwhile, Eleanor Guthrie tries to keep order on the lawless island of New Providence conducting her father's business, as the Royal Navy's suspicions of the pirates grow stronger.
III. (1.03) — Flint asks Gates to seek additional help from Captain Hornigold to borrow his ship, Royal Lion, in search of the Urca de Lima. Meanwhile, Silver and Billy tackle a morale problem while they work together on discovering who the remaining mutineers are. During a captain's meeting to strike a deal, Eleanor is impressed by Vane's voice of reason and calm demeanor, which leads to them having an intimate encounter. However, once she finds out Max was raped by his crew, she punishes Vane by giving them an ultimatum. Also, Gates is promoted from quartermaster to captaining his own ship.
V. (1.05) — Flint and his crew of the Walrus play a deadly game of naval warfare when they engage Captain Bryson and the Andromache on the open sea to gain precious cargo. Meanwhile, Richard forces his daughter's hand when he makes an announcement to the locals about his assets being liquidated. This causes a mob to riot against Eleanor, who seeks help from Hornigold. Rackham makes a career change for him and Vane when they become owners of the brothel. Also, Billy questions Flint about Mrs. Barlow, and Anne confesses to Max about her past with men.
VI. (1.06) — Capturing the Andromache proves to be a costly endeavor when Flint loses a few of his crew to Bryson's men who are holed up in the hull. Meanwhile, Anne decides to take a stand against Hamund and his men for harming Max. Eleanor gets a visit from an unlikely ally who needs her help and turns to Silver to form a plan. Billy reads a private letter from Mrs. Barlow asking for a pardon for Flint's murderous actions aboard the Maria Aleyne, and asks Gates to confront him before the men learn of his betrayal. Vane reaches his destination from his self-made voyage.
XIX. (3.01) — A formidable new character, planning a return to Nassau, is introduced. Flint and his crew wage war against anyone who has taken a stance against piracy, and John Silver thinks this is becoming dangerous and reckless. Max has Anne persuade Jack to start repairs on New Providence Island's fort, which is still in ruins after the events of Season 2. Jack has sent Vane to take a ship, claiming there is much-needed timber aboard. However, Vane finds slaves instead and angrily confronts Jack. Jack convinces Vane that slave labour is the only way to fix the fort. Back in England, Eleanor is offered a deal in exchange for her life, and a new British threat emerges. Flint and the Walrus come across Hornigold and his crew and are forced to make a difficult decision.
XXIV. (3.06) — Flint challenges Teach to a duel. Rogers arrests Rackham and tries to convince him to surrender the gems for the sake of Nassau. Rackham agrees to this but then betrays Rogers. Madi, the daughter of Maroons Queen and Mr. Scott, helps Silver as he's being held captive.
XXX. (4.02) — Long John Silver is captured by a former crewman of Blackbeard and tries to talk his way into freedom. Max finds out about Featherstone and Idelle's involvement in the leaking of secrets to the pirates. Blackbeard begins a blockade of Nassau Harbour that Woodes Rogers devises a plan to counter. The remainder of Flint's crew and Billy's men raid a plantation of New Providence to gather supplies and more men for the war.
XXXI. (4.03) — Rogers sets off for Port Royal in order to distract Blackbeard's blockade and allow Eleanor to seek aid from her grandfather in Philadelphia. The alliance between Flint's crew and the maroons is strained after Billy and his men turn their back on them. Flint reunites with Silver and gets reintroduced to Israel Hands. Blackbeard catches up to Rogers' ship and a battle ensues. Flint and his men begin an attack on Nassau.
XXXIII. (4.05) — Eleanor and Flint strike a deal as Governor Rogers attempts to enter Nassau Harbour. Madi and Silver fight about what the deal between Eleanor and Flint means for the future of Nassau. Flint reveals some things about Mr Scott to Eleanor that cause her discomfort. Rogers reverses course and sails towards Havana to seek aid from Spain. Jack arrives in Nassau with the escaped prisoners and tells Flint of his run-in with Rogers.
XXXIV. (4.06) — A dozen Spanish ships appear over the horizon heading into Nassau Harbour. Silver tries to convince freed slave leader Julius to join forces and fight the Spanish together. Flint, Madi and Eleanor take refuge outside Nassau as the Spanish troops invade. Survivors seek escape via the Walrus and Rogers' captured ship. The pirates plan their next move in the fight for Nassau.

You won’t miss anything by not watching the series, it’s absolutely dull. The monster designs are boring (this is the most grievous offense to me, they’re all human-looking but with added body parts, shells/armor, wings etc), the most frequent action our protagonists do is running away, the characters share no similarity to their game counterparts (big oof with Juste), the main boss is especially lackluster compared to Dracula (even Netflix Dracula), the music is lacking and unimaginative, the voice acting combined with the animation/design is awkward, the aristocratic enemies are non-entities (they’re just npc vampires in powdered wigs, heck the Headhunter has more personality and they only have attack voicelines), the plot is Richter, Maria, Annette, and Tera have to defeat the vampire Messiah and their underlings along with a subplot about saving a friend (how is it different and better than the games which “have no story”), their modus operandi for giving the protagonist characters a backstory is to have their loved ones killed (heck even Olrox’s past lover was killed), and France was underutilized.
I noticed in the first three episodes how the series has regressed to NFCV S1 tier of generic monsters, when the rest of the og show actually tried to bring back iconic enemies - I remember smiling when I saw Karasuman! Hell, Abel stole the show in S4E6! What happened here?
no really. what happened here.
I'm already seeing takes that always bringing Dracula back is boring and we need variety (which is the literal same argument moved against Eggman. I hate it here). And look, not only Castlevania, original name "Dracula's Demon Castle" is all about Dracula and his castle... but are the replacements worth it? The games gave us the likes of a corrupted Richter lamenting the fate of his clan, Walter the entertainingly sadistic lord serving all sorts of cunt, Isaac the cruel, insane, cunning yet tragic and loyal servant, Brauner who stole two girls and turned them into vampires out of grief, Barlowe the eerily realistic abusive cultist... only the Sorrow games are lacking in this department IMO. What did the show replace Dracula with, after swearing up and down that he's nothing but a dysfunctional dumbass? A girlboss? A cute rapist? An edgy redditor? Now a thundercat with her BDSM simp that wants to be Isaac so badly but doesn't have what made him charming? Wow, it was worth shitting on Dracula for three seasons straight and then basically saying "yeah he's not evil anymore" :V
I also noticed how both animation and voice acting took a nosedive. The fight betwen Richter and BDSM mommy is 10 fps, and Sun Thundercat sounds like she recorded herself on a shitty flip phone. c'mon bruh those were like, the two things I could easily praise about the og show. what are you doing.
I also also noticed how everyone has a dead mom, or alternatively a dead sister, and now we have a dead lover because Olrox has to be a poor little meow meow too on top of the tiddies. Oh, but the Games Are Stupid because they keep fridging wives, right? We Are So Much Better Than The Stupid Games :) fuck you.
Yeah I am so uninterested. I don't even want to hatewatch this. I don't care. It's just a shitty French Revolution story told from an American perspective, plus the most condescending of crumbs for the game fans. No, I don't care that you brought Juste back and you gave him afterimages, if you then say that Maxim died like a dumbass and that turned Juste into yet another cynical old man. Bleh.

Black Sails Monologuolympics BR1.1: Minor Characters
1/8: Idelle vs Morley
Idelle, to Anne, 408: “You killed a friend of mine. Her name was Charlotte… and you did it for reasons that had nothing to do with her. There were men I knew that would've killed you for me. I wanted to ask them. Had the money. But Max refused. I couldn't tell then if it was… because she was afraid of you. Wouldn't have blamed her. I was. Or if it was something else. But I respected her wishes. Obeyed when she said we'd protect you despite what you'd done. Do you know why? Because despite the world reminding her every day of her life that she's undeserving of being given anything by it, that she was unworthy of what little she'd managed to take from it… despite all of that, she never believed a word of it. That woman has been fighting the whole goddamn world since the day she was born. She's a breath away from winning that fight. For whatever reason, she wants to share the spoils with you. And you'd walk away. You killed my friend. I wanted you to know that.”
VS
Morley, to Billy, 104: "Number of years back, before you crewed up with us, Flint had us hunting a merchant ship, the Maria Aleyne. Sephardic trade... gold, pearls, jewels. "More than we'd ever know what to do with," he said. But that's Flint's gift, isn't it? Always knows just what to say to push us harder, further, make us all pull together for the cause. We tracked that bitch for months without refitting or careening, till finally we spotted her. We lost good men taking her for a haul nowhere near what Flint had promised. While I was exploring the hold, I chanced upon a cabin and that's when I heard it. 'Twas a man and a woman begging for their lives. "Spare us, and our fortune's yours." For a moment, I thought all our shares were gonna be worth a whole lot more. But that's when the screams began. And when I watched the murderer leave, I saw him plain. Gates was unmoved, to say the least. "Just one rich bastard less in the world," he said. At the time, I'll admit, I took his point. But days later we come ashore. I see a lady waiting for Flint. The rest of the crew thought she's just some fancy bit of Puritan tail. But when Flint reaches her, two words escape his lips. "They're dead." Hunting the Maria Aleyne was never about money. It was an execution. All those men we lost taking her, they died so Flint could settle some personal vendetta for her. You watch. Good men will die for some hidden agenda. The Barlow woman's agenda. Mark my words, Billy. It's all happening again."

“Zsuzsa Roe” (Hungary 1971)
“Zsuzsa” had her fatal abortion in a Hungarian hospital as the law required. It was standard procedure to keep abortion clients for observation for a day after the abortion. Given the regulations meant to reduce the risk of maternal death, the abortion was most likely done in the first trimester. Unfortunately, even her country’s then-stringent safeguards and all the resources of a hospital would not be enough to save Zsuzsa’s life.
The abortion complication that killed Zsuzsa was recorded as “cardial insufficiency” with no further elaboration. It is unknown if she had a pre-existing heart condition that made the abortion more hazardous to her (similar to Carmen Rodriguez, Shirley Hollis, Maureen Tyke, Barbara May Hoppert, “Teresa Roe” or “Evie Roe”) or if she was healthy and developed cardiac complications entirely as a result of the abortion (similar to Linda Boom, Alesha Thomas, Anna Maria M., Jessie-Maye Barlow, “Carrie Roe” and “Anne Roe”).
“Insufficiency” may have also meant that she suffered other complications that when combined caused her heart to fail. Lack of oxygen, amniotic fluid embolism, air embolism, blood loss and more can result in or contribute to arrhythmia and/or cardiac arrest.
Zsuzsa was one of 34 pregnant people killed by legal abortion in the study period. All of them underwent their abortions in hospitals under what the study called “optimal conditions,” but even this wasn’t enough to save them.
