im suddenly thinking abt my beloved mariluke fankids again and i wanna drop more headcanons i made for them despite nobody asking for them <3

💜 Nina von Hagen-Pearce

nina, even at a young age, is outgoing and sociable. she definitely inherited both luke and marius' charm, and she's able to make lots of friends very easily. she's a social butterfly in pre-school and once she grows older, she becomes a little bit like how luke was in high school: that well known over achieving student in all regards that everybody else wants to be friends with

despite her kindness and open personality, nina is still very wary of people who try to get close to her. it's an unfortunate requirement, when you're the daughter of a von hagen, so she actively discerns people if they're only trying to get close to her for ulterior motives. given this, despite her wide social circle, she only has 2-3 very close friends.

she VERY MUCH inherited luke's Supreme Stubbornness. because of this, luke and nina often butt heads a lot (a fic i want to work on is one where nina is 16 years old and she gets her first boyfriend. and luke, Overprotective Dad Extraordinaire, does not approve) because neither of them like conceding or losing LMAO. still, in spite of all these arguments, they still love each other very much. theyre just.....more likely to get on each other's nerves, HAHA. marius has to step in more often than not to play mediator between his beloved husband and his beloved daughter.

💛 Percy von Hagen-Pearce

in contrast to nina's very extroverted personality, percy is much more withdrawn and quiet. he tends to keep to himself, only really speaking when Spoken To First. marius and luke are very worried for him, when he was in pre-school, because he didnt make any friends and was often just hanging out alone playing by himself. marius in particular was worried that percy was being isolated or ostracized by his peers (which marius is very sensitive to, since he went through that himself as a child), but thankfully his loneliness isnt a problem forever. percy has a deep love for his interests and hobbies, and he eventually makes a few friends through them through out middle school and high school.

like nina, he's cautious of other people trying to get close to him, but due to his personality being more subdued, not many people do anyway. and he quite likes it that way (something he has to assure his dads of regularly like "dad, papa, it's fine, im okay, nobody's bullying me i promise, im fine with having just a few friends, i like it that way, Don't Worry Too Much)

his quietness doesnt mean he lacks Attitude though. where nina is amiable and bubbly, but stubborn and hard-headed, percy can be subtly teasing and snarky, though he's a bit more lax and laid back than nina is. he rarely gets into arguments with either luke or marius because he's more amenable with going with the flow.

wAAAAA HELLO GALENA!!

i haven't written much this year (only 4 this year compared to like,, 14 last year yIKES JDSBKFJB) but! i feel like my writing has definitely improved and that's better! quality over quantity and all that lolol.

honestly, i think my favorite one this year has to be the kiki/vincent one. it's niche, its long, and it was my first plunge into something not based on found family for once lolol. (i mean, it's not like i haven't done it before its just i've never done it with two characters haha!)

i think that this one is my favorite of the four because the writing process of this one felt like... a Real(tm) fanfic writing experience? this one i wrote a (vague) outline, i re-wrote it like twice, i did research (yeah! the surfing scene wasn't just pulled out of my ass i put in the work!) and i had you as my lovely lovely beta reader! (and the first!!! i've never had a beta reader before it was amazing!!)

most of my fics are fairly self-indulgent, but i think this one takes the cake. its a rarepair, for starters. its fluffy (i love fluff as you can tell hehe).

that's not to say i didn't enjoy writing the rest! the new series is my baby rn, it has so many possibilities and its gonna be great! once i get done with the ficathon one and [redacted] I'll be focusing on it and with the new stuff we're being fed?? YEAAAAAAH!!! and the mariluke one was fun to write too! it helped that i came with experience this time kjdbkjbfk.

the real Mariluke Struggle: marius wants to stay over at Luke’s place all the time bc no pax, no crazy sad family stuff etc but luke’s bed is uncomfy!!! meanwhile luke wants to be at the von hagen crib bc wow marius has a 10/10 cloud heaven bed. solution is to obviously get luke a new bed but can you imagine trying to get that up three floors?? absolute hell.

this entire ask is so good and so FUNNY. it's problem after problem. i love that luke's bed is uncomfy, it probably is WELL past its due date and there are bits where the spring is starting to come out and thats making annoying lumps on the bed but luke doesnt replace it on the grounds that "it still works" which is like, yknow, his standards are below sea level. in spite of that, marius totally likes luke's place because of all those reasons, also because of luke, and because it's closer to pax than the estate which makes it easy to drop by, and because it's genuinely nice and cozy place.

meanwhile luke loves marius' bed and marius' bedroom (theres so much space???? the tv is so big??? the bathroom is like a 5 star hotel bathroom????) but he still gets intimidated by how Fancy(TM) the von hagen estate is and also theyve probably been caught making out like several times by vincent and one horrific time by AUSTIN so like, there are definitely perks to luke's setup where the only living being who cohabits in his space is peanut, a literal bird.

marius can buy luke an absolutely resplendent new mattress. it's so good it makes luke realize he's had back pain he didnt even know about until he test laid down on the bed at the luxury bed department store (??? idk how rich people beds work or where they come from, do they hatch from eggs?) because suddenly that back pain is Gone. it's a fantastic bed. marius cant wait to nap in it with luke and also fuck him silly on it. but like, yeah, it needs to go up Three Floors.

i assume marius probably hired movers from the luxury bed place but then those movers are confounded when they accidentally get the mattress just lodged-in STUCK in luke's narrow stairwell headed up to his living space. like, it's really wedged in there. luke and marius try to get it un-wedged themselves and theyre successful but it takes more than an hour and also luke wondering about the geometrics of the entire situation

luke: what if i just bust a hole in my wall to get it out

marius: hello???? why is that even an option????????

luke: i dunno just putting ideas out there

like i said, standards below sea level

by the time they get the bed onto luke's palette bedframe, they both just conk out completely tired and asleep on it. and to the mattress' credit, they Do get a very restful and deep sleep while on it

now marius just has to buy luke new bedsheets because luke's old bedsheets still have some blood spatter stains from when luke came home from missions too tired to clean himself up. but thats a conundrum for another day

gah i'm so obsessed with marius in this chapter. like, i don't know if it's said enough that, marius is actually very smart. like REALLY SMART. the way he's always two steps ahead, yet people think he's some naive dumb rich brat, but he lets them believe so. it plays to his advantage. AND GOD the last scene with him perched on the edge of the building watching the sun set is SO BEAUTIFUL AND POETIC. SIR YOU AND YOUR "how could a place so rotten, be so beautiful" talk. and i find that so endearing in him. he knows already, how corrupted the world is. the world of the rich and powerful is no different than those of the poor and struggling, even in it's shiny sparkling benevolence. yet he still holds so much hope despite all that.

but more than i'm kinda obsessed with the relationship between letha and gerard. what if you were just a girl HOUSING AN EMO RUNAWAY BOY IN YOUR BASEMENT... how letha was writing and hanging notes on the pagoda tree and how gerard was the recipient of all the thoughts of a highschool girl. but it breaks my heart a bit how even in all of that that this was their semblance of "normal" if that makes sense. BUT it only makes me question letha's motives more tbh, cause why is she taking in all those people? what for? is it really just out of kindness? to feel like she has a family? WHERE DID SHE GET ALL THE BUDGET TO SUSTAIN ALL OF THEM ANYWAYS, INHERITANCE????????

my only qualms is that would we not have found out roman sooner like... if he did give the traced water to his brother, wouldn't it be in the scene of the crime, if not somewhere close by? but i guess tbf he could've just thrown it away when he's very far away and the police wouldn't be able to catch him. but other than that i dub chp 12 THE mariluke (marius and luke) chp.... mmm.... yes.... nod nod

LETHA AND GERARD YESSSS, it made me really emo when it was revealed he was living in her home ;-; but fr yeah letha was running an entire CHARITY in that house by that point KJBLSBFLS

roman was such an interesting and kinda heartbreaking villain to me. he kinda showed up late enough in the story that i too wondered why he didnt enter the scene earlier, but i was really hit in the feels during the flashbacks of his life with remus. how remus had absolutely done terrible things, while also absolutely trying to love and care for his brother. oaugh. sibling stories always get to me, i fear….

thinking about mariluke again… given how marius is afraid of really trusting people and showing his heart bc he’s been used so many times before and his family situation… and given luke is all “you before me” and “wow im literal scum i don’t deserve nice things��� how do you think they break down that roadblock to become lovers? do you think one of them would realise this isn’t okay and work on it or would they need a push from someone else?

i very much relate to the feeling, anon, HVSKJFVKSDHFS

but oh my gosh i adore this ask because u hit the nail on the head on what like, their core internal conflicts are, respectively. definitely not their only conflicts, but these ones are ones that i see as the driving force behind a lot of their actions. for marius, it's the constant struggle of "can i trust you?", for luke it's his lack of self worth and the resulting neglect of his own safety/needs/desires coming from it.

before i answer the questions tho i wanna say first that those two issues do stem from core Wants that theyve got (and i wanna say this first cuz it will tie into my answers/thoughts HAHA).

like, marius is always cautious and holding his cards and heart close to himself not just because of all the betrayals hes experienced and in general the Life He Lives (though that is a Huge factor), but also because it's connected to his want for honesty, earnestness, and genuineness. though these two are interconnected, it's not a Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg situation (or in this case….Which Came First, The Yearning Or The Trust Issues? JHVKSJDFH), they exist simultaneously and feed into each other. he wants, he has trouble receiving what he wants because of his fears but his fears are also put into higher gear because of how Much he wants, and in turn the lack leads to his desire gets magnified and the stakes for his fears getting even higher as well. aaaand all this gets further complicated when u throw in marius’ low view of himself as well (while it’s not as prominent/delved-into in canon as luke’s, it’s Very Much There, see this past analysis i did about marius and emotional distancing which is the most recent analysis i did i think on the topic)

meanwhile with luke, his propensity to put others before himself always is in partly caused by how lowly he sees himself (if hes worth nothing and others are worth more, then he should be the ones taking the blows or enduring the pains), but Both those things are ultimately caused by his desire to Be Good and Do Good for Another. “for Another” is a key phrase here, because luke imo is driven by devotion. it has to be someone else. and if he sees himself as bad, then the good thing to do is to neglect himself, and a better use of his life is to serve Another that he Sees as good. like marius, this is all interconnected too. his want to do good feeds into his self sacrificial tendencies, his low view of himself allows him to do more of what he perceives to be good, etc etc. tho of course, with luke, theres the whole obvious glaring sign that what he Perceives to be good isnt good at all (ex. when he becomes overprotective to the point of taking away choice/agency from the very person hes protecting, protection becomes presumptuous condescension, and this all gets in flux since goodness is subjective based on whos lens ur looking from) but at the end of the day thats a bulk of whats driving a lot of decisions.

now when things get to romantic relationship, both these respective desires seen through the lens of romantic love can be reworded into:

for marius, it’s “do you love me? can i trust that your love is real? are you telling the truth when you say im worthy of love?”

and for luke, it’s “am i good enough for your love? have i earned it? will i allow myself to believe i’ve earned it when you say i have?”

NOW back to ur question. i personally dont think this is an Either Or situation, i think it’s a Both Simultaneously kinda thing.

cuz first off, change can only happen when the person who has to do the change actively works on it. no amount of support system can do it for the person if the person themselves isnt putting in the work. BUT input from another Helps very much, especially with mariluke imo cuz like……..these two are two sides of the same coin. so many of their insecurities and fears and wants are similar. not Exactly the same, but similar enough that i think they get each other on a really personal level

(sidenote im coming in with another song but i tell everybody who has the misfortune of listening to me that “just like i do” by loveless is THE mariluke song for me because….come on

heres how they can help each other:

marius keeps his heart behind tall and strong walls because of how his world works and how his life has gone, yet all he yearns for is sincerity. and luke gives that in full earnestness, and is probably surprised by how much that means to marius.

luke wears his heart on his sleeve, on the arms that are always fighting for whoever or whatever hes devoted to. luke keeps secrets, yes, but thats mostly in regards to how he sees, treats, and values (or rather, doesnt value) himself. but marius, who is trained in the art of putting up a mask or building a fortress to hide, would see through luke’s secrecy and see how badly luke treats himself under the guise of being good for others to be worthy of love.

(luke: "i wanna be the best youve ever known / show me if you want me"

marius: "i need to get a hold of you now")

luke shows what marius wants and marius sees what luke hides; both of these things, one way or another, calling attention to both of their respective internal conflicts.

i dont think they fix each other, or rather thats not how my personal ideal view of how their relationship goes. i think they see each other.

and in seeing, they learn more about themselves and realize that part of loving another person is also in bettering one’s self. marius loving luke more than hes afraid of getting hurt. luke loving marius more than how he wants to hate himself.

they both realize that the internal issues theyve got are not okay, and that they need to work on it. but they realize that once understood by the other and once realizing that their love is more important to them than fear or hatred.

though marius definately isn't golden retriever(tm) but both marius and shima i think had to deal with their whole lives scrutinized under a microscope of the public eyes, having to navigate through people who are only trying to take advantage of them, and how they have to put on a facade, keeping people at arms length... they both just seem... like very lonely people.

i honestly i kinda want to see marius go through a skip and loafer(tm) treatment and I JUST THINK HE NEEDS MORE GENUINE FRIENDS (WHEN HE MENTIONED HOW HE WANTED TO SHARE SNACKS AND RIDE ON SWINGS, HOW IS THIS OKAY)

shima might as well be a mariluke lovechild.

i so absolutely agree with what u listed down there. in the same chapter shima had his "this is my role [...]" spiel that lives in my brain rent free, two other lines in that spiel gut punched me and is So mariuscore: "[i'm] a status symbol" and "we're both using each other, after all. it's not worth it."

(sidenote: ...ch 46 warm picnic is really one of my dang favorite chapters of this whole manga. because of the shima brain deep dive, but also because of mitsumi's "whether i fall in love with you or not" response that was one THE most wholesome and beautiful declarations of unconditional love ever. MITSUMI IWAKURA IF UR OUT THERE, PLS KNOW I LOVE YOU!!!!!)

BACK TO THE SHIMA 🤝 MARIUS ALLIANCE, UR SO RIGHT!!!! both of them ended up in a "special" kind of role as children, shima's being his job and marius' being his family, and all it did was isolate them both immensely and make them wary of others, make them second guess every kindness because whats the ulterior motive there, whats the transaction, what do they really want from me?

(sidenote 2: in my dreams, the team has more lighthearted happy group moments together that arent just the sliding puzzle minigame event prologues jvfkjjVJH. but the hoyoland event story has a special place in my heart for unexpectedly granting such good nxx team friendship togetherness moments....)

it's a surprise to me how marius and luke share quite a lot of similarities somehow? you mentioned how they both yearn for simple mundanities... marius because of how his past doesn't let him such things and luke because he's certain his future won't let him. they're both self-sacrificing in their own way, not wanting to be a burden to others.

(additional points, both terrible sleeping schedules... luke's aquarium visit card? marius's bday aquarium date event? baby marius' love for orca? i just want them to go to an aquarium and tuck them in nice heavy blankets as i kiss them both in the foreheads)

marius and luke are really such insanely complementary characters once u start digging into them. like, i started shipping them at first simply because their dynamic was so fun to write in fanfic, but the more i wrote the more i was like oh dang you two are two sides of the same coin

thats just one example of so many where like.....theyre coming from different perspectives but sometimes end up with a similar view (ex. luke being taken in by mc's family making him terrified of being a burden and bad person, marius thinking hes the reason he killed someone in his family making him terrified of being a burden and bad person......KIDS CAN WE LIGHTEN UP?)

it's so fun picking into these two more cuz theres so many of these links that can be drawn and at the end of the day, it ultimately means that marius and luke have a lot of meaningful common ground and cld be able to understand each other so well. it looked unlikely at first, but these two have so many intersections where both thought they were isolated, and having someone who gets you on that kind of level....well thats an awesome core for a ship :'D

ARTEM AUTISTIC, YESSSS!!!! i will very happily spread the word on this! ive always liked to interpret certain traits and experiences of artem as something that gives off neurodivergent vibes (i mentioned it very briefly in this previous ask from sept talking abt artem and queer experiences), tho since i myself am not neurodivergent to my knowledge, i hesitate to engage very much with the specifics of this kinda hc since like, it's not my place to be talking about something i dont know very much about nor do not experience myself!
