Marichat May Day 13: Sin
marichat may masterpost
Just a silly scene where an older Marinette and Chat Noir continue a tradition of good food and good company, only things get a little… steamy.
Rating: T
This is kind of a sequel to what I wrote for day 1, and although it references back to that drabble, can be read on its own. Food notes at the end!
She can’t really remember when this became their routine, but they’ve been baking and eating treats together for at least six years now. She does remember that he used to be very, very bad at this - burning pans, dropping ingredients, and generally getting underfoot (as cats are wont to do) - but now he can even make his own sweets without destroying her kitchen.
Today they were having tiramisù and hot chocolate on her balcony. For the tiramisù she soaked the ladyfingers in café serré and amaretto to keep the flavors intense, but sweet for her kitty. Honestly, she thought, shaking her head a little, that boy loves sugar more than life.
By the time he arrives a lush, intoxicating scent was wafting from the table his princess had set out. A piping hot mug by each chair and two servings of tiramisù standing by, with sweet Marinette lost in her sketchbook. Mustering all his feline grace, he glides behind her and places a palm on each shoulder, breathing Bonsoir Purrincess into her ear. She jerks back, feet drawn up into the chair and face plastered with shock while Chat Noir beams down having achieved the desired reaction.
“Chat Noir, you sneak!” she exclaims as she throws her cushion at him. He raises his arms over his head, laughing. “Oh no you don’t! This. Is. Not. Funny,” she punctuates each word with a whack from her sketchbook, but he can’t help it. He adores the fire in her eyes when she’s angry, it feels like he’s found home when she’s focused on him alone…
Marinette decides a change of tactics is called for so she grabs his plate and holds it high, standing up in her chair to say, “Fine! If that’s the way you want it I guess you won’t be needing this, will you?”
His eyes fly wide and he hastens to appease her, “I was wrong Princess! I’ll never do it again, so spare me!” He flings his arms around her knees, looking upward with his best model-trained kitten eyes. Marinette maintains her stern facade for another beat before the giggles begin to spill down upon him, joy spreading to her eyes which now shine like stars. Feeling like he’s been hit by lightning, Chat Noir can only gape, dumbstruck while she brings her hand to her mouth and peals of laughter pour like pearls from her lips. His heart seizes at that image and he grips the material below his bell thinking, no, this is home.
Eventually they get around to actually sitting and Chat Noir is finally able to taste his tiramisù. The moment that first mouthful begins to dissolve, his costume ears point straight up and Marinette could swear she saw the very auroras dance across his eyes.
“MmmmmmMari~ This is so good. You have to taste it!” He places his left hand on the table for support as he reaches out to her, offering up his fork. Silly kitty, I made it. Of course I ate some already, she thinks. Parting her lips anyways, she leans across the table towards him and promptly knocks over his hot chocolate. The steaming liquid sloshes over his bracing hand and Chat Noir drops his fork in surprise.
“Oh, Chat! I’ve burned you!” Marinette shoots up, rattling the tableware while the chocolate-covered hero shakes his dripping hand.
“Don’t worry Princess, the suit absorbs pretty much everything,” he assures her, but Marinette has already sidestepped the table and gently cups his gloved hand in her own bare ones.
“I know.” She speaks softly, but with power behind her words, gazing straight into his eyes, piercing, he feels, even beyond his mask.
Never breaking eye contact, she raises his limp hand towards her and trails her tongue down starting from the tip of his ring finger. Her eyes flutter briefly as her lips brush past his miraculous, landing for an instant on the back of his hand. Meanwhile Chat Noir, one of Paris’ great superheros, is experiencing complete and utter panic. Reminiscent of Marinette’s collège days, he can’t keep a single thought straight, jumping from one track to another, spiralling out of control. (Does she like me? No, there’s no way this mea- her tongue! Her to- I wish I wasn’t wearing gloves…. What?! No! Get a hold of yours- We should be dating. I should ask her out for smoothies and then-)
As Chat wrestles his thoughts, Marinette continues her ministrations. Flipping his hand so the palm is facing her, she kisses right above his costume cuff, at the base of his palm, gliding up, following his fate line to twine her tongue between his middle and index fingers. Sipping dribbles of hot chocolate she takes in his thumb, slurping off the sticky drink, pulling back until her mouth  comes free with a slight pop. Chat Noir lets his thumb linger, a feather caress on her bottom lip, enraptured by her heady gaze. Her lidded eyes bore into his masked jade as their breath intertwines, heavy with emotion. Each lost, wandering the woods and sky, their dancing hearts are the only measure of time.
With his hand still held to her cheek, the corner of her moistened lip quirks up, the motion tugging at his thumb.
“What’s the matter, mon minou?” she lilts, “Cat got your tongue?” The moment she says the words a jolt runs up his spine, urging him to move, leaving him yearning to just   lean     forward.
Staggering a little, Chat Noir swerves toward the railing and only once he clambers safely atop it does he turn to face his lady. His eyes flare at her, but his eyebrows are twisted with questions and longing. His lips part slightly, then slam together as he drops off the roof and into the night leaving Marinette to watch his shadow scurry away, nearly tripping two roofs over. She could have laughed then, but Marinette simply followed him with her eyes and licked her lips which slowly settle into a smouldering smirk.
Bonus:
When he met Nino for lunch two days later, Adrien was still feeling quite dazed.
Scratch that.
His head was a total mess and he considered it a minor miracle that he made it to the meeting at all, much less with matching socks and both his shoes attached. He couldn’t really hear anything Nino said. He just nodded along as his brain flipped between replaying those beautiful, confusing moments on her balcony, and racing off in fragmented thought-trains towards impossible possibilities.
Adrien’s blissful, crazy dream world came crashing down when Nino started raving about Marinette’s miraculous baking.
“Dude, you have never tasted tiramisù so rad. I swear, it’s out of this world!”
Finally alert, Adrien feigned mild interest, mumbling Is that so? as his pulse thrummed through his veins.
“Totally! And get this, according to Marinette it even means ‘take me to heaven’ in Italian. Cool, huh?”
Everything else faded out until the only thing left in his world was Marinette. He watched as her sinful lips moved ever so slowly, carefully forming the words…
Take - me  - to - hea - ven
Tumblr media
First, I’m sorry if any of the food terms were inaccessible…
Tiramisù is an Italian desert made from ladyfingers (biscuits) soaked in strong coffee until they soft and spongy, then layered with cream and topped in chocolate. Adding alcohol is optional, but since it’s not cooked you will be eating whatever amount you put in. It’s an amazing desert and y’all should try it! I had Marinette use café serré (French equivalent of ristretto shots) because they are more concentrated and less bitter, while amaretto is a sweet, almond flavored liqueur that apparently goes really well with coffee.
Italian: ristretto “limited” “restricted”;  amaretto “a little bitter”; tiramisù “pull me up” (or if you believe mameshiba) “take me to heaven” which could be a liberal translation going off of “pick me up” “cheer me up” “lift me up”
French: café serré “strong coffee” (serré on it’s own being “tight” or “compact”)
Quick French culture reminders:
The drinking age is 18. Since the kids are 14-15 in the show, I placed this 6 years later so that they’re ~20 years old.
Collège is the equivalent of middle school/junior high.

Note
Ok, I'll break it up.Here's the first part: Maybe it means that under Mari's guardianship, they're all equal? idk. But when I first "joined"(starting being on here, but w/o an account like now) the fandom, I was in a lot of salt circles, bc those people did have nice ideas! & great fics, etc. I didn't really know how to find non-salt spaces/that non-salt spaces were an option. Anyway, now I've found you & a bunch of other nice blogs that are all super lovely!😊So lovely, in fact, that 1/2 or 2/3
that you're in my bookmarks, I have an anon name (well, kinda :P) and tag (:D), and we make crossovers together! I hope you get this! –Nameless Anon ♡♡ 2/2 or 3/3
Like I said, I think that there may be some symbolic meaning to the way the Miracle Box is organized, but I still think that fundamentally the Ladybug and Black Cat are most powerful, while the Bee/Fox/Turtle/Butterfly/Peacock are second most powerful, and the Zodiac kwamis are on the bottom. (Which doesn't hold much credence given what we've seen with the Rabbit and Snake, but maybe they have combined powers? Like you get the ultimate power when you combine the yin-yang Miraculous, slightly less powerful power when you combine the wuxing Miraculous, etc.)
And yes, I do know what you mean about salt circles having good ideas, and frankly I agree. I think mostly salt ideas are just.... easy, at least the super pervasive one. That's why there's so much analysis dedicated toward debunking that salt, because you dip one layer under the surface of the show and suddenly it becomes clear that Marichat does not represent true selves and Lila won't destroy Marinette's life because Marinette has a support system that's 100 times stronger than Lila's, etc. etc.
Like, I'll tell you now, a lot of my early fan content did resemble that of salters because I was just getting into it. Now, a salter who's been in the fandom for years and dug a whole that they plan to die in is not the same as a beginning fanfic writer who's still working on the characterization of our two lovebirds.
To be honest, I do not dip into AO3's search function very often anymore unless I'm looking for DJWifi centric fic, which tends to be low sodium because DJWifi fans are that big brained. (No, but actually because so much salt comes from Chameleon and DJWifi's golden years were 2018 and 2017, and also because people who really hate Alya don't tend to write DJWifi centric fics, thank God.)
I'm so glad that I joined the ML Writer's Guild relatively early into my days in the fandom because it's a great place for low sodium content :D

MariChat May - It Was You - Day 28: Kiss It Better
Here it is. It’s the FINAL CHAPTER. Masterpost for all chapters to follow soon.
It Was You
<<Chapter 1     Chapter 30     Chapter 31
Share The Pain
“Oh Kitty,” Marinette said as she continued to stare at him as he avoided her gaze, “What have I done to you? I was so busy being worried about how I felt, that I forgot about you. I'm so sorry Chat.”
“I'm Lynx,” he said briefly, but his eyes flickered with uncertainty and Marinette took it as a good sign that she was getting through to him.
“Ch-Lynx, I was scared. I was worried that maybe I wouldn't like you the same once I knew who you were. I didn't want to hurt you but now it's so much worse and I've been so stupid. I don't know why I thought I wouldn't like you. You're still you. And I love you.”
All of a sudden, a purple butterfly outlined Chat's face and he seemed to be looking through her balcony floor instead of at it while he concentrated on a voice only he could hear. Marinette gasped as his furrowed brow creased further and his frown deepened. He shook his head in what looked like annoyance at something the voice had said.
“No,” he said quietly, presumably to Hawkmoth, “She does. That's why you're not allowed to look at My Lady.”
He went silent again and turned to look over her shoulder to avoid her face as he continued his internal conversation. His eyes suddenly screwed shut and he grabbed her around the waist drawing her against him so that her chin rested on his shoulder. Marinette gasped again at the unexpected contact, one hand still pressed against his chest and the other wrapping around his back to return the embrace.
“I do want to make her understand,” he said to the villain, “I wanted her to hurt like me, yes, but I don't want you to hurt her.”
“Kitty, Ch-Lynx,” Marinette began, pulling back to look at his face, which was still screwed up as if he were afraid to open his eyes.
“NO!” he shouted, “I won't do this for you!...I've changed my mind...take them back then...if you don't know already, then why would I tell you?...ARGH!”
Lynx screamed and his body convulsed as he reacted to the pain clearly coursing through his body. Marinette flung her other arm around him too and gently guided him to the ground as his legs started to give way. Her breathing became shallow as she started to panic but she found she had no idea what to do. For the first time since she'd become Ladybug, Marinette felt completely helpless.
She stroked his hair as his screams gave way into dull sobs and she could see tears leak out from the edges of his mask.
“N-no...” he wept, “I w-won't tell you who w-we are. I'd never t-tell you who she is. And you don't g-get to know before h-her...”
He screamed again and his clawed hands dug into her skin, leaving red marks. Marinette hissed in pain but continued to stroke his hair and face, making gentle shushing noises which were as much for herself as they were for him.
“You can beat him, Chat,” she told him in a choked voice.
“W-What if – argh! - I do?” he said, shuddering in pain, “I'm not t-transformed. You'll see – you don't want...”
“I do!” she said suddenly and Lynx's head turned towards her voice, although his eyes remained tightly closed, “I'm just scared and being stupid. I love you and I do want to know who you are. Please fight him, Kitty.”
He cried out as another flood of pain seemed to wash through him and Marinette knew she had to ease his torment in any way she could. She leaned forward and pressed her lips to his forehead. Her face exploded in bursts of pain which felt like the most intense case of pins and needles ever combined with an electrocution, but as she did Lynx's tightened features relaxed slightly against her lips. She instinctively pulled away in shock at the pain and Lynx whimpered as it once again returned to him.
Marinette immediately began to press firm kisses to his cheeks and nose, every brush of her lips spreading pain down her body, moving from her lips, across her face and into her torso and limbs. She found that the shorter the period of time her lips took to move from one kiss to another, the more she hurt and the more Lynx seemed to strengthen.
She pulled away very briefly to look at his face, eyes closed gently but determinedly now and she pressed their lips together with enough pressure to bruise. The agony was so intense she found it impossible to continue kissing him as her body convulsed and her mind refused to focus on anything but the pain. Instead, her head dropped back as she screamed.
It took several seconds for the screams to ebb away and for Marinette to realise the pain had retreated again. She opened her eyes in panic, determined to go back to kissing him to relieve his convulsions, but instead saw his face was relaxed and a wave of purple magic was moving across his body, starting at his feet and moving upwards to reveal orange shoes at first, followed by jeans.
Marinette watched in fascination as the magic continued to retreat and reverted Lynx back into a panting Adrien Agreste, bright green eyes blinking open and looking at her for the first time since he had been akumatised. A faint glow of purple remained around his wrist before suddenly spawning a perfectly white butterfly which immediately jumped from the lucky charm bracelet it rested on and flew away.
Both teens watched it go for a moment before Marinette's peripheral vision caught sight of Adrien's eyes growing wide and worried.
He turned to face her sharply and she looked at him in amazement. The love of her life had turned out to be the love of her life. The boy who had broken her heart was also the boy who had helped her to put it back together again. One boy whom she had loved after only a day of knowing him, and with the other boy it had taken a slow build of friendship for her to realise how she truly felt. And they were one person.
“Wow,” she said.
“Um, yeah,” he said, scratching the back of his neck nervously, “I'm sorry, um...I-”
“It was you.”
“Yeah, look I know-”
“No, I mean- all this time, you were right there in front of me,” she laughed, “It was you.”
And before Adrien could determine exactly what she meant by that, she had thrown herself forward and knocked him to the ground, connecting their lips together in a passionate kiss which he was quick to return.
So, there we go! My MariChat May 2017 fic is finally complete. And it only took until August lol.
I want everyone to know that I have more planned for this. I don’t quite have a plot sorted out yet but I have ideas that I want to explore in the aftermath of this reveal.
I’ve also gotten a few requests to write scenes from in between the chapters so I might make some extras and publish them on AO3 as well.
Thanx for reading and remember that reblogging allows new people to find this!

Cookies for a Monster, chapter 1
I started this story back in 2017. February, to be exact. Meaning this has been sitting in my folder for two years despite how much I’ve loved this story and wanted to complete it. Now that it’s Marichat May, I’ve decided to share it.
Next>
Dusk had just set over the up-and-coming village, stealing the last of the light from the wooden roofs of the town. Now, only the moon illuminated the cobblestone roads between the wood-and-brick houses. The occasional lit lantern hung on each storefront cast a yellow glow into the blue night, allowing stragglers to find their way back home. Not that anyone would be out this late. Not since the rumors of monsters started circulating around town.
For decades, rumors of monsters plagued not only this town, but the surrounding ones. Monsters that caused destruction unlike any other and only came at night. Most people called it hogwash, claiming that it was nothing more than some lawbreakers causing trouble at night, yet even with that belief, hardly anyone went out at night. Among the children, however, it was the favorite of scary stories.
One child who fully believed in the monsters lived above the most popular bakery in the village. Teased and tormented by her older classmates who said monsters love eating tiny girls with pigtails, five-year-old Marinette grew terrified. According to Chloe, the meanest girl of all, the monsters hid in closets and under beds, waiting until she was asleep waiting to eat her.
Marinette pretended she wasn’t afraid because Chloe was just mean and she didn’t want to cry in front of Chloe. But when night came and her parents tucked her in to bed, Marinette started to sob. Her mother cooed and coddled her while her papa reached over his wife’s tiny frame to rub the little girl’s back. “What’s wrong, Marinette?”
Between body-wracking sobs, Marinette sputtered out, “Chloe said monsters like hiding in closets…and that they’re going to eat me.”
Another minute of crying passed before Marinette calmed down enough to look at her Mama’s face. “Oh, Marinette. You don’t have to be afraid. There’s no monster in the closet.”
“Tonight,” Marinette said, rubbing her red eyes. “What about tomorrow?”
Her mother looked up at her father, who suddenly swooped Marinette up in his arms. He kissed her forehead, his mustache tickling her and successfully getting the little girl to smile. “Well, I’ll show you the weakness to any monster. Come on.”
Her papa carried her down the stairs to the first level of the bakery. “You see, Marinette. Monsters are hungry creatures. They just want food. But their favorite are cookies.”
“Cookies?” Marinette repeated.
Her papa nodded. “Cookies. If you put a couple of cookies outside your closet, they won’t eat you because they will want the cookies instead. And if the cookies are really really good—”
“Like the cookies you make?”
He grinned. “Like the cookies I make, then they will leave a note for you saying that they liked the cookies so much they will never eat you because you are too nice, and that they’ll protect you forever.”
Despite crying her little, blue eyes out not five minutes ago, she was grinning now. “Forever?”
“Forever.”
“Papa,” Marinette said. “I need some cookies.”
He chuckled, taking her to the rack of left-over cookies. “Why don’t you choose something for the monster?”
After picking two cookies and having her papa putting them on a plate for her, they went back up and put the cookies on the floor in front of the closet. Then Marinette got put to bed, and she was out ten minutes later.
Her papa stayed up just long enough to nibble on one of the cookies and put it back.
In the morning, Marinette asked why one of the cookies was only partially eaten, and why there was no note. To which Papa replied, “They won’t leave a note the first night, you have to keep trying until they do. But there’s a secret about monsters: they never visit the same place twice in a row, so tonight, you are perfectly safe.”
Marinette squealed in delight.
For a month, she kept putting cookies out, until she learned that the monster only came on Mondays. So every Monday, she would pick two cookies before bed and place them in front of the closet.
And squealed when she woke up three months later holding the note.
She proudly showed Mama and Papa, who patted her on the head and told her what a brave girl she was.
From that day on, Marinette was no longer scared of monsters.
If she ever suspected a new monster had taken residence in her room, she would calmly walk downstairs, get two cookies and put them on a plate for a week, and if there were no cookies eaten, she would take pride in the fact there was no monster.
So, when she was awoken by a rumble on her roof, Marinette wasn’t afraid. She was a whole eight years old and knew how to handle monsters.Calmly, she ambled downstairs in the dark, found two cookies, and put them by the ladder that led from her room to the roof. Without second thought or a fear in the world, she went back to sleep.
When the cookies were still there in the morning, she thought there must have been no monster.
But then it returned two nights later. So Marinette set out the cookies. Yet they weren’t eaten.
Strange.
At least the monster didn’t return the next night, so Marinette slept easily.
Until she heard footsteps on the roof again.
By now, Marinette was confused. She could hear the monster above her on the roof, but it never came down the latter to eat her.
Maybe it didn’t like cookies.
So she tried a croissant, but it was still there in the morning.
Marinette frowned, staring at the croissant on the plate by the ladder. She wondered if she should ask her Papa why this monster was different, but she knew she could figure this out on her own.
The monster came sporadically, leaving her wondering when he would return next.  However, one thing was for certain: she was going to have to put the cookies in a different spot. Mama and Papa told her they didn’t want her climbing the ladder until she was older, but Marinette deemed this an emergency. She had to protect herself from the monster.
Very carefully, Marinette put two cookies in a handkerchief and tied it up. She put the cookies in her knapsack, which she put over her back so she could use both hands to climb the ladder. When she reached the top, she pushed open the hatch and climbed up to the roof. She didn’t stray far from the ladder, putting the cookies on the kerchief right beside the opening. Now, the monster would see them for sure.
The next morning, she opened the hatch, delighted to find both cookies gone. The monster had found them, meaning she wouldn’t be eaten. She just had to keep going until she got the note. So, she put them up every other day without fail. And every other day, they would be eaten.
Three months later, she was climbing the ladder, ready to find a note any day now…
But found a gift instead.
Curious, she took the empty kerchief and the parcel wrapped in brown cloth and twine and shoved them in her knapsack before descending the ladder.
Back on the floor of her room, she opened the gift, gasping as she saw a pretty wooden box. It was dark brown, carved with scrolls and bubbles all over.
She didn’t know monsters left gifts!
She opened the box to find a little piece of paper with handwriting that looked very much like her own. The last monster wrote pretty, loopy words, so maybe this monster was practicing its handwriting.
-Thank you for the cookies. I like them very much. I hope you like the box. My father said that when I get something, I should give them something in return to be kind.
Marinette frowned, confused. Wasn’t it supposed to promise to protect her?
She didn’t understand, but Mama told her she should always respond to her letters. And since this letter was a very nice letter, she should do as Mama told her.
The next time she left cookies up for the monster, she wrote a note. -You are welcome for the cookies. I like the box very much. It is pretty.
There. That was kind. Maybe the monster would promise to protect her now.
When she checked out on the cookies she put out a few nights later, she saw a letter. But it wasn’t what she expected.
-I’m glad you like the box. I thought it was nice. What is your name?
Since Marinette knew it would be rude not to respond, especially since the monster seemed so nice, she put out a note two days later. My name is Marinette. What is your name?
-My name is Adrien, but I was told that I have to be called Chat Noir. Please do not tell anyone. Please keep it a secret.
Marinette couldn’t help but giggle. The monster trusted her with a secret. This was getting very fun. Mama and Papa hadn’t told her that monsters could be so kind, nor did they tell her that they liked to write letters.
-I promise to keep it a secret. How old are you?
-I am nine years old. How old are you?
-I am eight years old. Do you go to school like I do?
Marinette didn’t know if monsters went to school, but she was curious.
-No. My mama teaches me everything. I want to go to school. Do you like school?
-I like school. The teacher is nice and I like to play outside with my friend. I don’t like the girl who sits by me in class. She is very mean to me. She told me monsters would eat me because I have pigtails. She is the reason I do not want to go to school all the time.
-I am sorry that someone is mean to you. You are very nice. I do not know why she is mean to you. I never heard that monsters like girls with pigtails. She must be lying. If she lies, then she must be very mean.
-Do you look like a big black cat, Chat Noir Adrien?
-You have to call me Chat Noir. It’s the rules. I have yellow hair and green eyes and a black mask and black cat ears and wear a black suit with black gloves and black shoes and a black belt that looks like a tail. What do you look like, Marinette?
-Okay, Chat Noir. I won’t call you Adrien again. I have black hair and blue eyes and like wearing pink dresses. Pink is my favorite color. What is your favorite color?
-I really like blue…
Six months. Six long months of writing and receiving letters with her cat monster. At the end of every month, she would find a gift for her. Flowers. Some coins. Even a doll. And Marinette loved every minute of it.
Except the monster still never told her he would protect her. She was still waiting for that.
-Chat Noir, are you supposed to tell me that you will protect me forever? Papa told me that if I gave a monster cookies then the monster will protect me forever.
Marinette was very nervous putting that letter up, but she was very glad when she found an answer.
-I am not a monster. I am a cat but I promise to protect you for ever and ever because you are my best friend.
Marinette squealed in delight, clutching the note to her chest as if it was her most prized possession. Her best friend promised to protect her forever. Now, she had two monster friends. Surely there would never be any more that came to haunt her.
And the fact that Chloe probably didn’t have any monster friends made it all the more delightful.
The next day, Marinette was ready to go to school, all but running out the door when her father stopped her. “No school today,” he said. He wasn’t smiling like he usually did.
Marinette’s smile disappeared in a heartbeat. “Why?”
“No reason, sweetheart. Just stay inside today, all right?”
Marinette relented. She didn’t like the look on his face. “Ok, Papa.”
That was when Mrs. Chamack came running in. She was a regular at the bakery, one Marinette really liked.
“Hello, Nadia,” her father greeted.
“Did you hear about the monster?”
Marinette froze on her way up the stairs. Monster?
“I did,” her papa said. “I don’t know why everyone thinks it was a monster that burned Mr. Ramier’s building down. It’s unreasonable.”
“People supposedly spotted a black creature running along the rooftops after the fire started.”
Black creature? Marinette’s little brow furrowed in confusion.
Chat Noir?
That night, she put out a note for her monster. -Chat Noir, are you a mean monster? I heard that you burned down the general store. I don’t believe it.
So anxious to receive a note from him that she barely slept that night. The next morning, when she went up to collect the plate of cookies, she saw that he left a note for her. Odd considering that he only left notes the visit after she gave him one. Still, she grabbed the note and eagerly scurried down the latter to read it.
-Marinette. There is something bad going on. I don’t know what, but I will find out. Please be careful. I don’t want you to get hurt.
Marinette frowned at the letter. Something bad? What was going on? Was there another monster trying to destroy the town.
Two days after that, Marinette had to help her papa clean up the shop because her mama wasn’t feeling well. By the end of the day, Marinette was so tired that she headed straight to bed. She had fallen into a light sleep, only to dream about black cats and cookies…
She jolted up in bed. “Oh, no.”
It was late, but she found her way downstairs and where the cookies were. The full moon gave a bit of light, but not enough to see clearly. Thankfully, she had made this trip so many times that doing it in the near dark was hardly a problem.
She grabbed two cookies, then scurried back upstairs as fast as she could. She scrambled to find the handkerchief, then tied up the cookies before tossing them in her knapsack and clamoring up the ladder. She pushed open the hatch—
Only to come face to face with piercing green eyes.
She squeaked, shrinking back down the ladder in fright.
“Marinette?”
She froze, staring at the figure with black cat ears and a black mask and blonde hair…
“Chat Noir?”
He grinned wildly and nodded, sending his fluffy hair flying. “Are you bringing me cookies?”
She nodded. “I’m sorry I forgot.”
“It’s ok.” He reached a paw down for her.
She didn’t take it and instead continued to climb up the ladder up to the roof of the building. She sat down beside him, looking at him for the first time. He wasn’t at all like she expected. He wasn’t a cat at all but rather a boy wearing a costume.
“You’re very pretty,” Chat suddenly said, breaking the silence.
She smiled shyly. “Thank you. You aren’t at all how I pictured you.”
He frowned.
“It’s ok!” she quickly assured. “I thought you looked like a cat.”
He pouted. “But I have ears and a tail and everything.”
“No, silly. I thought you looked like a real cat.”
“Oh,” he said. “No. It’s just a disguise I have to wear in order to defeat the monster.”
Marinette frowned at that. “Defeat the monster?”
He nodded, suddenly very serious. “I have a very important job. There is a monster running around, causing damage to the village. I have to defeat it.”
Marinette’s eyes grew wide. “Have you seen it before?”
Chat shook his head. “No. I have to find him and defeat him so the village will be safe again. And I will; I promise.”
Marinette smiled, then threw her arms around him. “Thank you for protecting me from the monster.”
He was stunned for a moment before he returned her hug very tightly. She liked his hugs. “You’re welcome,” he said. “I promise I’ll always protect you.”
When she released him, she dug in her backpack to pull out the cookies. “Here.”
His eyes grew wide and a happy smile split his face in two. “How about you take one and I take one?”
Marinette grinned. “Ok. You pick first.”
So they sat on the roof, each eating a cookie and talking. Marinette loved every minute of it, until she was tired and he had to leave. With one last hug, he left, running across the rooftops and leaping from building to building.
It made her very nervous watching him.
She continued her routine of putting up cookies, occasionally waiting later into the night hoping that maybe he would come.
But he never did.
Nor were the cookies ever eaten when she checked in the mornings.
Marinette was on the verge of crying in frustration when finally, finally a note appeared, along with flowers wrapped up in red ribbons
-Marinette. I am sorry, but I am not allowed to see you anymore. Those are the new rules. I will miss you very much. You are still my best friend, and I promise I will protect you, but I am not allowed to eat any more of your cookies or visit you or write letters to you. I will miss you very much.
After reading that letter twice over, nine-year-old Marinette did burst into tears.
Some birthday gift.
Eventually, she calmed down, rubbing her red eyes before putting the final note away in the box he gave her. The one that kept all her notes. Then, she looked at the collection of wildflowers. She found a vase of water to put them in. Later on, once the flowers were beginning to wilt, she would press them in books like her mama had taught her.
As for the ribbons. They went in her hair. Where they would always be until they met again.

Marichat May Day 6: Game Night
marichat may masterpost
Marinette was tearing through her competition. They were playing Super Smash Bros in Versus Mode and even with a handicap, she was whittling away at their lives. At first Adrien tried to focus on cornering Marinette’s chosen character, Samus, while avoiding barrels from Alya’s Donkey Kong, but his attention slowly shifted away from the television. As their characters jumped and dodged on screen, Adrien noticed that Marinette and Nino were getting close. Too close.
As they jerked the game controllers, their shoulders would bump and brush, causing a dark swell to form in the depths of Adrien’s chest. Marinette was his Princess. He shook his head, trying to clear the cloud and bring his attention back to the screen. He to prevented his Pikachu from falling off the edge just in time to get KO’d by Link. Nino whooped and rose his arms in victory. Right over Marinette. Too. Close. Adrien’s pupils narrowed and a deep rumbling filled his throat.
Surprised by this reaction, Adrien froze. He glanced at his friends to see if they noticed, but they were too intent on the game. After Marinette had taken his last life, he excused himself to the bathroom.
“Plagg! What the hell was that!?”
“What was what, kid?” Plagg yawned out lazily.
“The growling!” Adrien hissed pointedly, “Those noises, these… feelings. It’s got to be some weird Kwami thing!”
“Well it’s got nothing to do with me,” the little god sniffed and turned up his nose. “You just watch too many of those shows.”
Adrien sighed and slumped forward. “Maybe you’re right, Plagg. Too many dramas and not enough sleep.”
“Really, you teenagers are always blaming me for your hormonal messes,” Plagg grumbled under his breath.
“What was that?”
“I said, you already dragged me all the way out here so when do I get cheese!”
With an exasperated eye roll Adrien gave in. “Fine, I’ll sneak you some cheese.”
However, all promises of cheese were soon forgotten. Stepping back into the main room, Adrien saw Nino nudging Marinette playfully with his elbow and all his reason vanishes instantly. Instead of returning to his own seat, Adrien slinks around behind his two friends, channeling his feline counterpart’s stealth. Barely nodding at Alya’s greeting - Welcome back! You’re just in time to see Marinette kick Nino’s butt! - he sidles up behind Marinette and pushes his face between her and Nino. Squirming until his entire body is wedged between the two, he pushes his cheek into Marinette’s shoulder. Finally satisfied that he’d quieted the dark cloud, Adrien didn’t notice that Alya was gaping incredulously nor the fanfare announcing This game’s winner is…. Link! No, he was perfectly content to snuggle up to his princess who, had he retained a speck of reason he might have noticed, had turned into a beet-red statue, her game controller forgotten on the floor.
Bonus:
After spending an afternoon locked in a cage with Nino, Alya gained not only an interest in him, but a collaborator for all her shenanigans, especially the ones involving Marinette and Adrien. Now she needed every bit of help she could get. She’d been working on Nathalie for almost a month now, pleading that Adrien needed to spend time with his friends, away from his father’s piercing gaze to destress and be a kid.
“I mean with all these akuma attacks happening recently it’s only a matter of time Ms. Sancoeur! Adrien’s under a lot more pressure than most kids his age and he rarely gets to spend time with his friends outside of school. That’s practically a recipe for akumatization! Just ask Nino, he’s Adrien’s closest friend,” Alya waved her arms towards Nino, giving him a little push forwards.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. He’s been super down lately, kinda shut off too. Please Ms. Nathalie, he needs to just chill for a bit. I promise we can cheer him up!”
As they finished their entreaty Nathalie let out a long sigh. Alya started thinking of more arguments to plead her case, but just as she opened her mouth to speak, Nathalie said sharply, “I can clear one evening next week. Just make sure he’s back in his room by ten.”
She turned her back to the whooping teens, shaking her head. The things she did for this family…
