[UPDATED: Complete Guide] Are you interested in watching Adventure Time, but intimidated by the thought of watching 283 episodes? Have you watched the series before, but want to watch again without any filler episodes (unless it’s Bubbline, of course?) This is for you!

After seeing several requests, I have compiled the complete list of all the Adventure Time episodes that contain major plot, important backstory, major characterization, and/or Bubbline moments. I have also included optional episodes that I think will increase your understanding/enjoyment of the show (I put the reason next to it; if it says something about being an arc, backstory, characterization, etc., be warned that not watching may make the major plot points of the show a bit more confusing for you). 

I condensed the show down to 153 of the 10-minute episodes (91 episodes if you don’t watch any of the optional episodes). Optional episodes are in italics. Episodes with Bubbline moments, characterization of Marcy/Princess Bubblegum (PB), or major backstory/plot related to Marcy/PB are in bold. Anything with a an asterisk (*) can be watched at any time (order doesn’t matter, though you may still want to watch it in the same season).

                     –Wood crackles and pops in a fireplace on the long side of the room,   the orange blaze casting lengthy shadows across the floor and opposite wall.   In the corner a nearly brand new turntable plays a dusty old record,   the sound of piano   –   Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, no 5. Menuet   –   drifts across the chamber.   To the other side is a long wooden table,   empty save for two wine glasses and a bottle   –   a 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti,   something found in the late Walter Klein’s personal stash   –   where nothing but dregs remain.

                    Dregs.   Abriell thought,   half-vacant eyes fixed on the bottle.   All that’s left of my worries.   My fear.

                   Her cheek rests on the shoulder of Marceline d’Amours,   the reason that her worries and concerns had all but evaporated.   The reason that she could look to the world and see its warmth and its beauty.   Her hands rest on Marceline’s upper back and she pulls the taller woman closer,   arms tight around her chest.   There were many moments like this,   many embraces,   many minutes and hours spent surrounded by the essence of her love,   each one a new burst of joy,   a new realization of her adoration.   She could never have too many.

                   They sway gently from side to side,   having long since abandoned any pretense of trying to actually dance,   and Abriell closes her eyes.   For a time she’s lost in the expanses of her mind and she watches,   as if someone else completely,   as the two of them drift through days that may never happen.   They walk hand-in-hand barefoot down an empty white beach,   waves breaking in rhythm to their swaying.   They sit leaning on each other under a white wooden gazebo as the rain pours down around them.   They stand in white clothes beneath a lattice arch gazing into each others eyes as their fingers entwine.

                   Abriell opens her eyes and the visions linger,   a sleepy smile stretches across her face when she realizes that no dreams of the future could ever be better than the reality of the present.   She lifts her head,   smile still intact,   and stares into the endless blue eyes of her love.   “Marceline,”   she starts,   stops to think,   and starts again.   “Marceline.   Have I ever told you how beautiful you are in the fire light?   How softly you glow in the rays of the sun?”   She leans in to press their lips together,   for just a moment.   Marceline tastes like cherries.   “You are the most incredible thing on the earth,   love.   Promise me that this will never change.”

                    She tilts her head to rest it on Marceline’s shoulder,   gazing up to the face that would greet her every morning.   It seemed like only yesterday that she’d looked over the top of a newspaper to see the frazzled and distressed stranger who now carried her up the gravel drive towards her home.   Like only yesterday she had looked to the passenger seat of her car to see the beautiful young woman that she had only just realized was something more than a friend.   Like only yesterday that she had looked up from the floor and met Marceline’s eyes before asking the most important question to ever leave her tongue.   Abriell closes her eyes.   “Hey,”   she speaks softly as they cross the threshold to her home   --   their home   --   for the first time for the rest of their lives.   “I love you.”
