Chapter 2

"Why did you just leave without telling anybody?" Andrew there father asked after they told him what happen.

"I was sick." Beatrice said then took a bite of her food.

"Beatrice... Isabelle..... I don't think you guys understand the level of scrutiny we're under. They're doing everything they can to discredit us right now." Andrew told them.

"Wait, who is," Isabelle asked making a face.

"Erudite. They believe that they should be the governing faction, not us." Natalie they mom told them.

"So you have to be careful right now, okay?"

"Even Marcus is under attack."

"For what?" Beatrice asked

"It's an old accusation. That he mistreated his son and that's why the boy defected." Andrew told her.

"Is that true?" Isabelle asked

"No."

"Course not. Children defect for all kinds of reasons." Natalie said as Isabelle looked at down at her reflection in her spoon.

Caleb, Beatrice, and Isabelle all went to the kitchen and started washing the dish's. Their parents came in with more dish's.

"Don't take too long in here. You need a good nights sleep.... For tomorrow. I, um..... We love you." Andrew said as everyone looked at him before he went and hugged Beatrice and Isabelle while Natalie hugged Caleb.

Natalie then came and hugged them while Andrew hugged Caleb. Andrew and Natalie then left the room going to bed.

"Beatrice? Isabelle?" Caleb said

"What?" They both asked

"Tomorrow when we choose.... You have to think of the family." Caleb said

"Yeah." Beatrice nodded

"But you also have to think of yourself." Caleb told them

They finished the dishes then went to bed. The next morning they started there walk to the place. When they walked in they first walked by the black. Dauntless. They were all talking to each other and messing around. Then they passed white. Candor. Then they came upon blue. Erudite. As they came upon the stairs a blonde woman in blue stepped down the stairs.

"Morning, Jeanine." Andrew said politely

"Good morning, Andrew. How is Marcus holding up?"

"As well as can be expected."

"We need to find out who's behind these rumors." Jeanine said sarcastically.

"I think we all know who it is." Natalie said

"If it's someone from Erudite, I promise I'll find out who. These are your children. I don't think I knew they were choosing today. What's your name?" She turned towards Caleb.

"I'm... I'm Caleb. It's a pleasure to meet you." Caleb smiled shaking her hand.

"Jeanine Matthews. And you two are?" She turned towards the girls.

"This is Beatrice and Isabelle." Caleb answered for them.

"Well all three of you have a big decision to make today. I'm sure your parents will support you whatever choice you make." Jeanine said to them.

"Thats not supposed to be a choice. The rest should tell us what to do." Beatrice said

"You're still free to choose." Jeanine told her

"But you don't really want that." Isabelle said

"Isabelle." Caleb warned

"I want you to choose who you truly are and where you truly belong. Not on a whim. Not because you wish you were someone you're not. But because you honestly know yourself. I want you to choose wisely. And I know you will." Jeanine said to her.

She gave her a small polite smile before she went and took her seat with her family. After everyone was seated they finally started. Everyone started clapping as Jeanine walked on stage.

"The faction system is a living being composed of cells, all of you. And the only way it can survive and thrive is for each of you to claim your rightful place. The furtive belongs to those who know where they belong." Jeanine said walked off then Marcus walked on to say a few things.

"When we leave this room, you will no longer be dependents but full-fledged members of our society. Faction before blood." Marcus said then everybody said it back.

"Jonathan Ziegler." Marcus said and a Erudite kid walked up.

He cut up his palm then dropped water into water.

"Erudite."

"Jeffrey Yates."

A dauntless kid comes down, cuts his palm, then drips some blood into coal.

"Dauntless."

"Morgan Stokes."

A Candor kid comes up, cuts his palm, then drops blood into soil.

"Amity."

"Claire Satron."

A Candor girl drips blood into glass

"Candor."

"Sam Robertson."

An Abnegation kids goes and drops blood into grey stones.

"Abnegation."

"Caleb Prior." Marcus said then Isabelle and Beatrice both look at him.

He looks at them for a moment before he gets up. He walks down to the bowls and grabs the knife. He slices his palm before he stretches his palm out and dips blood into water.

"Erudite."

Isabelle and Beatrice looked at each other before they look at they parents who's smiles have disappeared.

"Beatrice and Isabelle Prior." Marcus says.

They both look at each other and sit there a moment before they finally get up. Natalie and Andrew both stand up and hug them before they walk down the steps.

They walk up to the bowls they grab the knife and slice both they palms. Beatrice hand stretches over the grey stones before she looks at Isabelle. They look at each other for a moment and a split second before either can drip they both jut put towards the coals. Both drops land on the coal with a sizzle.

"Dauntless."

They grab a napkin and wipe there hand as tow dauntless people stand up and welcome them and let them have their seats.

The vertiginous Brainstorm starts off in one direction, with the sadistic industrialist Cort Benson (Dana Andrews) gaslighting his employee, Jim Grayam (Jeffrey Hunter), who is having an affair with Benson's wife, Lorrie (Anne Francis). But then it turns in another direction: Benson may be trying to make Grayam think he's going mad, but Grayam may actually be insane. He plots an intricate scheme to kill Benson and get away with it, and he almost does. It's a whipsaw premise for a thriller that in the hands of Alfred Hitchcock might have been a classic. Unfortunately, William Conrad was a better character actor than director, and he doesn't quite bring it off. Part of the problem is that Hunter is a little too handsome for the role and doesn't balance the attractiveness of Grayam with enough darkness: We ought to feel more ambivalent about the character from the start. The script has some distracting inconsistencies of plot and character that a more sure-footed director might have overcome, the way Hitchcock covers up the plot holes in Vertigo (1958). There are still some good performances, especially from Viveca Lindfors as a psychiatrist who plays her own ambivalent role in Grayam's case. I think it's the off-balance narrative that has allowed Brainstorm to develop into something of a cult film after its initial rejection by the critics.

So originally when I first started developing her and WAYYYY before RE3 Remake, Ren was a head scientist at the Arklay Facility in Raccoon City alongside Wesker and Birkin. She got infected with the t-Virus because of the outbreak that Dr. Marcus had caused due to the need of revenge on Umbrella for killing him. Ren has gone through some MAJOR character development over the past 15 years I've had her.

🐕‍🦺 - does your s/i have accessibility needs? does your s/i take care of anyone? What accommodations in their life have they made for other's?

REN: She doesn't have accessibility needs, she doesn't really have any disabilities whatsoever. Paranoia, anxiety, and ADHD is all this woman has, and she actively goes to therapy for 95% of that.

On the flip side, as you well know, she does eventually start taking care of someone with accessibility needs: August. I'm pretty sure that Ren would make sure if they needed an interpreter she would provide one. A better set of hearing aids? Oh you bet. Ren even learned sign to better communicate with their child, and probably even offered a cochlear implant if they so choose to have one.

SOLARIS: During their early stages of their sun experiments, before they adapted their extra prothesis, they lost vision in their left eye due to negligence on their part. Because their research was so important, they asked Dr. Winston for some assistance on the lunar colony so they could continue their work. This led to them receiving a collapsible cane to navigate around base, and the development of Athena to read out their notes and such to them while they worked. Eventually, with the help of their colleagues Dr. Ziegler and Dr. de Kuiper, they were able to develop UV goggles to help them see properly again and to prevent any more damage.

If you count Solaris joining Talon to help stabilize Sigma and eventually try to help him escape, then yes they do take care of someone. The accomodations they made for him specifically in their own quarters is to play old songs that they used to listen to on Horizon Lunar Colony to help ground him; and padded up the ceiling and walls as much as they could in case he got lost in thought and started floating around. Also made sure any sharp objects were secured down in case of a melt down or again, get lost in thought and floating things around subconsciously.

I was guessing some of the scores (”slovenly or stylish” or “disarming vs creepy”? What kind of scale are those?) but it’s probably not entirely wrong.

Chapter Two Excerpt!

It took some effort for Marcus Ziegler to pry open the briefcase, his fingers straining on rusted hinges. “Fuck, Ty, help me with this,” he said, and one of his bodyguards leaned over to grab the case’s handle. It was an old case, its wrinkled leather skin creased with use. The rest of the office, on the other hand, was the picture of modernity, with sleek marble tiles and floor to ceiling windows. There was a polished vase on a pedestal by the door and a couple leather chairs for guests. White leather, of course, to match the aesthetic.

Marcus’s client was not sitting. He stood tall and stiff in his gray trench coat, eyes on the case. Not once had he looked outside to view the garden two stories below. It annoyed Marcus. Guests loved his garden.

The case came open with a snap and both Marcus and his bodyguards wrinkled their noses at the sudden scent of decay. Waving a hand to clear the air, Marcus tipped the case on its side. Out spilled a mummified appendage, a hand, disconnected at the wrist. Much of the skin was gone and the rest had become a tarry mass, fused with exposed bone.

Gently, the client picked it up. His hands were gloved and his collar pulled high. The wide brim of his cap kept out the light of the afternoon sun. Marcus had no compunctions about dealing with nightwalkers, but this man made him glad to have bodyguards.

“There it is,” he said. “The Right Hand of Alhazred. Your employer should be satisfied.”

From a pocket inside his coat, the client produced a small black sack. He placed the hand inside and nodded.

“Now then,” Marcus smiled. “I believe you owe me something in return? How much was it again?”

“Five million in uncut diamonds.”

“Thank you, Ty.”

The man remained silent. He had gone completely still, cold blue eyes unblinking. Marcus didn’t like it, his bodyguards even less so. They were reaching for their guns.

“You have the money?” Marcus scooted back in his chair, letting Ty’s massive bulk protect him. “It would be very bad business if you didn’t.”

Ten seconds passed, then fifteen. Overhead a cloud moved to blot out the sun, casting the room into shadow. It was only then the man spoke, raising his head to bask in the sudden shade. His voice was cold and measured, and the tone of it made Marcus feel weak. “Gentlemen,” he said, sharp teeth emerging from behind bloodless lips. “I think our business has concluded.” Author’s Note: This except was the beginning of the second chapter of The Dusk Patrol, my work in progress, which you can read about here.
