Article by - Ashley Daniels
Marc Ribler a Asbury Park veteran of the Jersey Shore’s music scene conducted an amazing band named The Dark Side of the Moon and Beyond on Jan 9th 2015, at Tim McLoone’s Supper Club. The band included Robbie Wyckoff (Roger Water’s and the Wall) on lead vocals, Andy Burton (John Mayer) on keyboards, Graham Maby (Jon Bon Jovi/ Joe Jackson) on bass, Tabitha Fair (Sting/ Bruce Springsteen) on vocals, Craig Dreyer (Keith Richards) on Keyboards and Saxophone, Rich Mercurio (Jonatha Brooke) on drums and Marc Ribler (Holme, Marc Ribler and Friends) as musical director and master on the guitar. This was a master collaboration, their energy was great! You could see everyone in the band were so thrilled to play for everyone and to play all together! They performed the Dark Side of the Moon in it’s entirely. I was very impressed as was everyone else in the room. If you had closed your eyes and listened to them play, it sounded like you were listening to Pink Floyd record the album right in front of you.
When they played The Great Gig in the Sky, Tabitha took lead on vocals and sounded like a mirrored echo of Clare Torry. They were so on point, Marc’s solo during Money gave me and others among the crowd chills. During the classic Us and Them, Craig jumped in on saxophone and nailed the solo to the T. It seemed as if time stopped while they played, because they had finished playing the album in what seemed like such a short amount of time. Marc even mentioned after they finished Eclipse “Well, that was the whole damn album guys! We’re going to take a quick break and come back with some more!” During the break I had a quick chat with Marc. Marc told me how he conducted the sounds to be exact as they could make it down to the instruments they were playing, their was even original bits that Pink Floyd had used on the keyboards.
They played the night away with classics from The Wall and Wish You Were Here. Opening with Shine on you Crazy Diamond Craig jumped on his tenor saxophone blowing away the crowd. After playing Wish You were Here he turned to Robbie with a huge smile and thanked him “I’m so happy you’re playing with us man, I mean people just spent hundreds of dollars to see you on tour with Roger Waters and the Wall!” Robbie graciously replied with a laugh and smile “Well, I wish I had gotten to see it myself but I had a huge Wall in front of me”. They continued rocking the night with classics such as Young Lust, Have A Cigar, Hey You, Run Like Hell>Within Without you, Comfortably Numb and many more. They closed the show up with Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 asking everyone to sing along with them.
They stopped playing for a minute so everyone could sing the chorus and I even saw some of the kitchen staff singing along. All and all this was an awesome show and very comfortable. Marc’s mother Eileen was even working the door and his nephew Jake (8 years old and fellow guitarist) took over for a duration of the night. If you wished you were here then check out his website http://www.marcribler.com/ for more annouced dates of their 2015 tour. Check Marc out at The Stone Pony on January 30th for his tribute to Joe Cocker.
