Tabu and Irrfan in Maqbool (Macbeth) dir. Vishal Bhardwaj + colour coordination
This movie has made many, many changes to the characters of the play, but they work well with the chosen backdrop of Mumbai's underworld. These two give a life to each other's presence that is sooo Lord and Lady Macbeth that it pulls off the motive of the murder being their chance to be together rather than just ambition for the "throne".

20 Years of Maqbool: Kamal Haasan was the original choice for Irrfan Khan’s role; Vishal Bhardwaj had to forgo his Rs. 30 lakhs fees so that he could shoot in Bhopal
Maqbool (2004) recently completed 20 years, on January 30. The film made director Vishal Bhardwaj a popular name and it also boosted the career of its lead actor Irrfan Khan. It was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and also starred Tabu, Pankaj Kapur, Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah. In a recent interview with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, Vishal Bhardwaj opened up about the struggles he faced in making the thriller as per his vision.
Tumblr media
The maverick filmmaker began by revealing that Kamal Haasan was the original choice for the title role. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror in August 2014, Tabu stated that Kay Kay Menon was also considered briefly before Irrfan Khan was locked.
In the Mid-Day interview, Vishal Bhardwaj then said that he knocked on several doors to get the funds. With no luck, he applied for a scheme that was launched then by IDBI Bank to finance films. Producers Manmohan Shetty and Bobby Bedi were on its script consultation committee. As luck would have it, the film failed to be lucky even here.
Vishal Bhardwaj, at this point, exulted that Manmohan Shetty, over drinks, told him, “You have actors like Naseer, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur… How would you ever have recovered a Rs 2.86 crores loan? I did you a favour, by rejecting it.”
Fortunately, Bobby Bedi was impressed with the script and he decided to finance the project. The initial plan was to shoot 25 days in Mumbai followed by 25 days in Bhopal. But once the Mumbai leg was over, Bobby confessed that there was no money for the Madhya Pradesh capital schedule. He suggested Vishal to shoot scenes of Abba ji’s (Pankaj Kapur) of haveli in a mansion at the Films’ Division office in South Mumbai. But Vishal had already finalized a haveli in Bhopal and he felt that it was the apt location. The ‘Films’ Division haveli’ wouldn’t have done justice.
Hence, Vishal Bhardwaj declined Bobby Bedi’s offer. Vishal narrated, “He (Bobby Bedi) said he won’t make the film then. I said, 'Let’s not make the movie'!”
This happened on a Friday evening. After this discussion, Vishal Bhardwaj said that he went home, “made himself a few stiff drinks” and switched off the phone over the weekend. On Monday, Bobby Bedi knocked on his door, asking where he had disappeared.
Vishal Bhardwaj said, “I told him, ‘What’s the point of meeting?’ My fees for the film, including music composition, direction and script was Rs 30 lakhs. Bobby suggested that the Bhopal shoot would cost Rs 60 lakhs. And that he was willing to put in Rs. 30 lakhs, and I could put in my Rs 30 lakhs.”
Vishal continued, “I just said—if you had told me earlier, I wouldn’t have drunk so much on Friday! Even to this day, while I was the producer, I didn’t make a single penny from Maqbool. But how does it matter? Look at all that I earned!”

PP, PML-N and other allied parties announced to form the government together, PTI was also invited
Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League (N), Muslim League (Q) and other allied parties announced that they will go together and form the government together and invited Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to be a part of the reconciliation process.
Yesterday, while holding a press conference at the house of Muslim League (Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain along with Shahbaz Sharif, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and other senior political leaders, People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that today we have decided that I will sit together and form the government and take Pakistan out of difficulties.
He said that we will solve all the problems facing Pakistan including economy, terrorism or reconciliation.
The former president said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is also included in the process of reconciliation, we want them to be part of this process of reconciliation, every political power should be part of the process of reconciliation, talk to us.
Muslim League (N) President Shehbaz Sharif said that I am grateful to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for inviting us all here today and today the political leaders of the country have gathered here so that we can tell the nation that we At the moment there is one.
He said that during the election campaign we talk against each other, present our position and manifesto, that phase is now over and now the parliament is about to come into existence, so now our war is against the challenges of this country. Is.
The former prime minister said that the first challenge is the economy that we have to stand on our feet, which is a Himalayan challenge in itself, but those nations move forward whose leadership takes a decision together. To carry forward.
He thanked Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for supporting Muslim League (N) and said that I and my leader are grateful to you.
Muslim League-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on this occasion that the economic agenda should be the first priority for the betterment of the country.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, representing the Balochistan Awami Party, said that today the purpose of this meeting was that as we were all together before, once again we should manage the system of Pakistan, strengthen Pakistan’s democracy.
Aleem Khan, leader of the Stabilization Pakistan Party, said that I thank Chaudhry Shujaat for inviting us all here today and I hope that the situation in Pakistan will improve after today.
PP, PML-N and other allied parties announced to form the government together
A coalition including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) and the Pakistan People’s party (PPP) have agreed to form the next government of Pakistan, ensuring that the party of former prime minister Imran Khan will not take power despite getting the most votes in the election.
At a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday night, it was confirmed that the rival parties had agreed, with two smaller coalition partners, to form a joint government “to take Pakistan out of difficulty” and that PLM-N’s president, Shehbaz Sharif, would be their sole nominee for prime minister.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party hit out at the coalition, calling them “mandate thieves”.
The announcement followed days of wrangling and political horse-trading after Pakistan’s election last week dramatically delivered the most votes – but not enough for a majority – to PTI, despite military opposition and a state-led crackdown.
PP, PML-N and other allied parties announced to form the government together
He said that Pakistan is currently going through a very difficult period, the conditions of the poor are very bad and they are badly crushed due to the burden of inflation, so everyone will have to come out of their caste and such. Decisions will have to be made which are for the good of the country and its people.  Click here to read in Urdu

Javeria and Sameer were introduced to each other five years ago when he returned to Kolkata from Germany and saw Ms Khanum’s picture on his mother’s phone. It was love at first sight for him. He told his mother that he wanted to marry her. Sameer’s mother sent the proposal to Javeria’s mother in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail, and both families agreed, but the road ahead for this love story was not easy.

Javeria Khanum had to apply for a visa to travel to India. The Indian High Commission initially rejected her application twice, and then a global tragedy, the Covid pandemic in 2020, further delayed their story’s progression.
Undeterred, Javeria Khanum applied again, and their love story passed its toughest test of getting a visa. Ms Khanum crossed the international border between India and Pakistan at the Attari-Wagah crossing in Amritsar on Tuesday. Sameer welcomed his fiancee with a bouquet and beats of ‘dhol’ at the border.
“Our families agreed to the marriage but we were trying to get a visa. I thank the government of India for granting me a 45-day visa. We have been in a relationship for the past five years, and I was trying to secure a visa for a long time and finally, it happened. Everyone back home was very happy,” Javeria told ANI.
“I’m feeling very happy. The moment I entered India, everyone congratulated me, and I was getting love from everyone. I felt happy seeing the grand welcome I received. I still can’t believe this,” she added.
Sameer and Javeria sought help multiple times from the Indian government for a quick redressal of their problem. Mr Khan posted on X last month, that in the last five years, he could meet Javeria only three times. Twice in Thailand and once in Dubai and her visa has been rejected twice by India.
The surreal reunion at the border left both Javeria and Sameer struggling to absorb the reality that they can finally marry. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I am very happy and surprised to see her, you can see it on my face. I want to thank the Indian government and Mr. Maqbool, who helped us in the visa process. Both countries helped us a lot to come together. When intentions are clear then no such thing as a border can come in between love, and this is an example.”
“I wish both governments introduce a special visa for couples who want to get married and help them. The security concerns are important, I respect that but there should be a special category,” he added.
Sameer told PTI that his friends from Germany, Africa, Spain, the United States and other countries will likely attend his wedding.
