Copper cottontail, inks, Nov 2024.

I have as usual tried to include several members of an ecosystem and several levels of the food web. A food web is like a food chain, but the term is meant to indicate complexity that isn't covered by the image of a chain. For example, this illustration includes one predator, the spider, which is in a very different size class from the predators of the rabbit, but is higher on its "food chain."

Plants: Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans), Big bluestem (Adropogon gerardii), Sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula), Hairy grama (Bouteloua hirsuta). Plant eaters: Prairie boopie grasshopper (Boopedon gracile), red harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex barbatus), Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus). Insect eaters: Apache jumping spider (Phidippus apacheanus).

Finally decided to label my inks so I can tell which bottle is what when I look at them from the top 😤

So I got a sample of Sailor Manyo Fuji ink a while ago and, like an idiot, didn't swatch it bc it looked like a regular blue ink.

Eye Candy: Sailor Manyo Dual Shading Mini Sets

While working at the Dromgoole’s table in St. Louis, I was able to score both of the Sailor Manyo Limited Edition Dual Shading sets (4 each with 20ml bottles, $60). Set #1 is a brighter assortment and includes  Haha, Nekoyanagi, Sakura, Nadeshiko. I swatched each bottle on Col-o-ring paper and then used a 1″ circle punch to cut the swatches and glue onto the top of the lids. It’s easy to see…

Also: fountain pen friends, I would love love love to hear your headcanons about Artemis' own fountain pen/ink preferences.

Artemis will disassemble and clean a fountain pen with the same level of intensity as Butler disassembling and cleaning one of his guns.

Excited to get some ink samples this week. I've drooled over Troublemaker Inks for years, but they're based in the Philippines and for a long time nobody in the US carried them. So I was very excited to learn that Vanness stocks them now.

Love love love shading inks. Troublemaker does dual-shaders. Not many brands do. Sailor is another, with their Manyo line. I have Manyo Hinoki and I love it.

Swatching my inks on Iroful paper and Tomoe River paper for comparison

I don't think anything can beat the way TR shows sheening haha, some of the sheening inks are like 99% sheen and 1% actual colour 😂

It's also interesting that some swatches look more cool-toned on the Iroful paper; Sailor Yurameku Kyokkou, Sailor Yurameku Hana-gokoro, Ink Institute Mexican Hens, and Sailor Yurameku Kitsune-biyori

I always seem to have trouble capturing Sailor Shikiori Sakura-mori, Kin-mokusei, and Sailor Manyo Sakura on camera. They are NOT that neon irl and are very legible. Manyo Sakura is more on the lighter side but it still isn't like what those photos are showing, I enjoyed journaling with it this summer!

hi! I was wondering what you used for your silver doodles? (Paper, markers, etc?) love your art :)

AHH!! i used a LOT of different pens on that page, let me give you the rundown (i assume you mean this one)

first were all of my currently inked fountain pens - i have a few that i havent filled for a while just b/c theyre a pain

left to right: moonman m2 inked with sailor manyo sakura, kaweco sport in limited edition iridescent pearl inked with j herbin diabolo menthe, moonman n6 inked with j herbin corail des tropiques, nahvalur original in peter draws artist edition silver inked with sailor manyo sakura, twsbi eco inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, twsbi diamond 580 in special edition iris inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, and a lamy safari in special edition light rose inked with diamine soft mint! all nibs are fine except for the twsbi eco, it has a bold nib

i also used the tombow fudenosuke brush pen, a red pilot g2, and a couple other random black pens i had laying around (cant remember the specific ones)

for the markers, i use copics because i am unfortunately that bitch, SOWWY. i recommend buying cheaper alcohol markers like ohuhu or touchfive/touchnew instead. the generic michaels brand ones are prone to dye crystalization so i cant recommend them

the paper is just shitty sketchbook paper, i think its literally strathmore Sketch(tm) paper, the one with the yellow cover. i have to put a piece of paper between the pages to make sure markers dont bleed thru, but it surprisingly handles fountain pens really well. also im just guessing because my friend gave the sketchbook to me as a graduation gift and she ripped the cover off to hide how much (or more accurately, little) she paid for it :P im still friends with her shes awesome

Inktober Day 23/24 2023: no prompt. I was going to do a drawing of my hunter, Violet, but instead I drew my warlock Bubo with a bow again. This time she is using Point of the Stag, because that was my first favorite bow in Destiny before Ticuu’s and I am glad I got a new god roll one last week in IB. Also drawing the armor I always use in IB because I’ve never drawn this set. Inks: Sailor Manyo Shirakashi, Diamine Autumn Oak, and Micron pens.
