Vånna Inget are a Swedish band (Småland) that have releases on several labels including Swedish label Gaphals, and German label ETT (Erste Theke Tontraeger).  Now, Marty Winch at Green Noise Records has procured several copies of “Ingen Botten” and is selling them for a measly $5 each for the next week.

I fell in love with this power-pop-punk sound immediately.  Part of it is Karolina Engdahl's vocals which combined with the music create a sense of urgency.  It makes me think of Blondie at her most punk, but really recalls the work of two other Swedish acts - Terrible Feelings and Manuela Iwansson (really these are related...Iwansson is the vocalist for Terrible Feelings but has her own solo releases).

Therese Lithner’s “EP” is the second release I’ve posted from Stockholm, Sweden’s Lazy Octopus Records (Lithner herself is also based in Stockholm).  When I recently received the 10 LP Surprise Vinyl Box, the return address was from PNKSLM Recordings - another fine, if not more international Swedish label.

Lithner’s EP contains 4 songs that bound between sounds reminiscent of The Dears (Murray Lightburn), Throwing Muses, and Manuela Iwansson (Terrible Feelings).  

I should give a reminder that Lazy Octopus Records recently released on of my favorite albums of 2021 so far - Det Jordiska “Grisarnas År”.  It’s truly a wonderful slice of post-punk goodness.

I should never judge a book by its cover....I know.  But when you snoop as much as I do, a quick judgement is often the difference between 1 and 3 hours of snooping.  So, with that said, I’m surprised I actually listened to Manuela Iwansson.  

Turns out Iwansson was the lead vocalist for the underappreciated Swedish band Terrible Feelings.  That band had a knack for power-pop-punk hooks (and amazing musicianship...even for a punk band).  But it was the vocals that kept me coming back and eventually buying “Shadows” (listen to “Intruders”).

“Strangers on a Train b/w Blank Surface” is a new 7″ single on the UK label Night School Records.  Iwansson’s vocals are still dominant, but make no mistake this lacks the power punk urgency of Terrible Feelings.  This has a more 80s feel - think Blondie or The Pretenders.
