Outside the bright lights of Melbourne, one of this week's ITF World Tour Tennis tournaments took place in Mandya (India). Here, third seed Orel Kimhi survived chaos from sharing a set against Rishab Agarwal in the first set to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the first round, another chaotic derby against Ofek Shimanov 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 in the second round, until defeating Madhwin Kamath 7-6(5), 6-0 in a series of break exchanges in the first set before facing Siddharth Vishwakarma in the finals, who previously stunned Nam Hoang Ly 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Knowing both players' potentials, this could be exciting to check where their levels were coming to the new year, but it was not complete without a rollercoaster being involved.

Initially, Siddharth started strong by overwhelming Orel from the baseline, resulting in the latter's frequent unforced errors. This allowed the former to break early (2-0) in the first set, quickly consolidated to 3-0 straight after. He almost doubled the break when he scored a forehand down-the-line winner for his break point, but Orel successfully foiled it to hold his serves to 3-1. Since then, Siddharth stayed solid until four consecutive holds later, where Orel's +1 backhand error created his break point before its immediate conversion thanks to Siddharth's cross-court forehand winner, asserting his dominance by taking the first set 6-2.

The second set turned out to be a distinct ride once Orel rediscovered his depth while trying to take advantage of Siddharth's unforced errors, which mostly came from rushed finishes. For half of the set, Siddharth controlled the flow, where he created his break point through another forehand winner (other than mostly targeting the lines, which was a subject of various close calls) before eventually breaking to 3-1. However, his subsequent forehand errors did not help anything except for Orel to break back 3-2, and subsequently got back into the match by equalizing the score to 3-3. Five consecutive holds later, Siddharth became more erroneous after his forehands were being sought, followed by his backhand, which resulted in Orel's break point creation before its conversion to 6-5 due to Siddharth's failed slice. As a result, Orel had his chance to serve for the second set, which he ultimately did to force the decider, taking the second set 7-5.

Siddharth had his moments in the third set, but he could not capitalize on Orel's previous errors. Orel initially started the set with a forehand winner and even had 3 break points, but Siddharth closed the game with a massive hold to 1-0. Three games later, Orel had to face a break point out of Siddharth's forehand return ace, but the former stayed focused to hold his service game 2-2. Subsequently, taking advantage of Siddharth's previous errors, Orel landed a forehand pass to secure his break point before a backhand error from Siddharth secured the break to 4-3. Unfortunately, after previously having to take a medical timeout, he had to take another one down break point, but he got out of trouble and held that service game 5-3 afterward. Two games later, Orel had the opportunity to serve for the match, where he successfully did to take the set 6-4, securing his first ITF final of the year, and overall second for M25 (after winning the M25 Herzliya last year).

In the finals, Orel will face former World No. 127 Jelle Sels, who previously defeated Karan Singh 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals earlier today. Knowing J. Sels, while he tried to pick up where he left off from his aggression, a possible rollercoaster awaits as Orel had to show his depth could nail the pacing J. Sels might have inflicted. This could be a tough ride, but surely be one of those exciting matches to close this week's finals!
