Queerbaiting sucks... but

I find it so affirming as a person who struggles with their romantic orientatation. I just live for that state of not quite friends/not quite lovers.

Like yes, they are partners, yes, they live and die for eachother, yes, every other relationship they have loses all meaning compared to them. But also no, they haven't kissed, and they don't want to kiss, and yet, somehow, every single word, every single glance, every single touch carries so much meaning and conveys so much love because this amount of platonic love is usually unheard of and they don't want the other to misunderstand. And I just- aaah, it gives me so much hope and reminds me that romantic love isn’t the only type of love worth experiencing and showing on screen/paper.

I do wish it was done intentionally and wasn’t just a product of homophobia and capitalism. Like I really, really hate the reason I get this representation. Like, it also leaves a somewhat sour taste in my mouth, because I can see that if the world was more accepting, it would probably be a romantic relationship.

A/N: i haven't picked up on manager kim in a longgg time so u gyatta forgive me for any inaccuracies, also i think manager kim would be the type to fall in love with someone who isn't in the same line of work as him sooo :PP

On an ordinary afternoon at a neighborhood park, Manager Kim had his eyes glued to Minji as she ran around on her chubby toddler legs, giggling as she tried to catch the butterflies flitting through the sunlit grass. It was one of those rare days where he could relax, just a dad taking his little girl to the park. Away from the stress and obligations waiting in the shadows.

He noticed you sitting nearby, also watching Minji’s happy chase with a gentle smile. You looked so warm and approachable, and Minji, curious and fearless as ever, waddled over to you, extending a pudgy hand in invitation. Caught by surprise, he was about to apologize when you laughed and held out your hand to her. It was a sound that made him pause—a simple laugh, but he swears the space around you lit up.

Manager Kim x Reader: First Meeting

An aggravated sigh leaves your mouth as you glance around. Three more boxes to go, and you could finally play dead fish on your mattress. The neighbourhood wasn’t too bad (from what you’ve seen in the past six hours), and your soon to be home had plenty of perks. It was close to work, had a nearby convenience store, and most importantly, it was cheap. A steal for sure. You glance around once more before cracking your back, groaning.

“Would you like some help?”

You look to your side to see a man holding a briefcase.

“Uhh,” you manage out, straightening your posture.

He stays silent, looking at your belongings, then back at you. He’s not a robber, is he?

“Oh, I don’t want to be a bother,” you say, shaking your head.

“Not at all,” he smiles, already picking up the boxes at once.

From the small talk you made with him, Kim had a daughter named Minji, and an occupation he was reluctant to share. He’s a reserved man, but a respectful one nonetheless. He even offered to unpack the boxes alone, insisting that you rest. He was sweet and nice to you, so who were you to judge his work? Looking around, you notice that all the kitchenware is put out and immaculately organised. Strong, helpful, and efficient. This neighbourhood most certainly does have its perks. You look around some more to see that all the boxes are empty, save for the ones with clothing in them.

Respectful too.

You figure it’d be nice to cook something for him. A token of appreciation. A gesture of kindness on your part. And- isn’t this usually around the time highschool students finish up their classes? Maybe Minji can join in too. Before you can stand up from the ground to get started on the cooking, Kim comes into view, and he’s dusting his hands.

“That’s probably all I can do for you without meddling with your privacy,” he smiles, grabbing his briefcase.

You give him a grateful smile of your own, but quickly frown.

“Let me make some dinner. Your daughter can come join us too,” You say hastily, tugging at his suit.

Kim looks down at your hands, a little reluctant. How long has it been since he’s even come in contact with a woman like this?

“Nothing better than a home cooked meal after a long day, right?” you try.

He gives another smile. A sloppy and crooked one this time.

“I suppose that’d be nice.”

His attempts are futile anyway, and there’s just something so serene about seeing you and Minji being so casual. When was the last time she laughed like that? You snort unsuspectedly, and cover your mouth. Embarrassed, you laugh it off and tell the father-daughter duo that you’ll take care of the dishes. Kim watches you carefully, and Minji nudges his shoulder.

“She’s nice,” his daughter smiles.

Imagine you're someone who enjoys true crime and you're sitting on the couch watching a particular gruesome episode of your favorite show while you're waiting for your dad to come home

You sat on the couch with your knees drawn to your chest as Chicago PD played on the screen. Your heard your father come in through the front door

You heard your fathers footsteps stop behind the couch as the tv screen showed the cops pulling a decapitated body out of the water and cutting to a scene of the decapitated head

"What on Earth are you watching" he said

"Chicago PD. It's getting good" you replied, not even turning around but keeping your eyes glued to the screen as they gave a close-up of the body

He usually doesn't fuss too much over your grades (I don't think he did that well in school) but he just cares about the effort that you put in towards your grades more so than the result

When you were younger, you got a really bad grade on a certain subject so when you got out of school, you ran home and dug through your mailbox to find your report card and tuck it into your pants and you shuffled through the house heading through barricade "Dad" giving him robotic one worded response

You tucked the report card under your mattress and hid in your room the rest of the evening and shuffled downstairs for dinner

The entire meal you avoided his eyes and he had to bribe it out of you with cake and a trip to the zoo

You stopped hiding your report cards since your grades got better and in your teen years, you had no reason to hide report cards since your school had a website for parents to check on grades

And cause you learn to fight, you've gotten into a few fights with girls at school who've tried to pour milk on you but you pulled a pocket knife on them

The car ride home was silent as Nam drove you back from school. Early pick up and a four day suspension. You poked at the leather of the BMW car seat mentally preparing for whatever lecture your father was going to give you He slowed the car down at a red light and let out a sigh The signature dad 'I'm gonna say something to scold you' sigh. Nam could swear up and down that he's never sighed like that until you came along "y/n" he began and you slowly looked over at him "If you were going to fight then you should've kept it under wraps. I thought that I had taught you to plan for damage control" "Um" how were you supposed to respond to that? Tbh, he never understood half of what you did (or said) but you were his only daughter and he loves you so much
