Dear Santa,

I may be speaking prematurely, but given the lack of evidence I don’t believe you are real, at least, in terms of physical existence. Magic or not, the task of breaking and entering the home of most ninja would prove treacherous and if the attempt didn’t kill you, it’d at least cause you to be capture, and your secrecy would be compromised. But…even if you aren’t real in this sense, I believe you exist if in nothing else, in the spirit of good will. Every time someone performs an act of kindness, or when someone holds hope, you are there…and in these times, that is more treasured than any amount of coin. It is likely the reason Tanaka-sensei is making us write these letters, especially given how bad the news has become as of late. A classmate lost her father on a recent mission…and she isn’t the first nor likely will she be the last victim of this semester. 

If I am wrong, if you are real…the only thing I want for this year, and even for all the years I have left, is for war to end please. Re-reading this, I realize the sentiment is naive but…well, I have no excuse. Please let this war end quickly, and that no more wars follow….or guide me to the instruments that will allow me to do so by my own two hands. Thank you for listening. Work hard and do your best!
