To me, the entire point of the ancient builders as characters is that they are a representation of the human spirit gone wrong.
Turning them into superpowered all knowing all intelligent god like entities that failed because boohoo the world hated them so much for no reason at all is stupid and I think comes from a weird kind of power fantasy where people would like to believe that they (the player) are part of a group of people that were simply better and smarter and more skilled than everyone else, which is weird. They were (judging by in game structures, which were a majority temples and if not still had places of worship like altars (see barracks: ancient cities, or the ominous vault altar in the trial chambers) etc.) a religious group that went downhill, an empire that fell to greed or gluttony or pride or whatever else you want to interpret. As most empires do, it collapsed under its own weight.
The fact they had better technology was more of a case of resource abundance and a niche need they were progressing towards as a group, not because they had were more intelligent than everyone else. Like in real life: if you showed a human from the Stone Age a modern video game they’d probably think you are smarter, despite being on the same level of intelligence, simply because we have come to have different cultural needs for for an example entertainment, even if the average person doesn’t know how to make one of those games. It’s the inverse of that. I imagine the average AB was no smarter than Steve or Alex, they were just enough in numbers to have groups of scientists / engineers / portal technicians to be able to craft blocks we cannot in vanilla, it’s a natural societal progression. The reason we don’t see it in vanilla is because the setting is post apocalyptic, but even then we’ve seen empires rise and fall throughout the years (like the Illager empire from MC:D) so this is not a unique concept in universe.
sincerely, the self proclaimed biggest ancient builder lover out there. So tired of people miss-characterizing my little men for the sole purpose of weirdly racism based power fantasy slop, it feels like watching what people turned herobrine into in real time.

Do you have any more art of the Minecraft default skins? I see that you’ve drawn Sunny, but have you drawn anyone else? I’m just curious.
Yes I do! This is an older piece but it’s the only full lineup I have.
I’ll definitely draw them more in the future, as is inevitable.

YES, THIS!!
At this point I’m infamous for my obsession with the ABs but this is so annoying.
It happens with other groups too but this portion is the absolute worst (also feel like when the opposite happens it’s more of a reaction to AB enjoyers being fucking numbskulls and doing too much instead of forming as an organic isolated idea).
The entire fun of both this hypothetical group of people and Minecraft lore in general is to figure out the history of the world they’re living in, creating a single people as sort of the only monolith of intelligence is so counter productive.
What is a character without other characters to interact with? What is a hypothetical character theorized to exist through the environmental storytelling of a world if you DO NOT EXPAND UPON THE WORLD.
I mean even the term “ancient builder” is outdated for the reason that other species’ can also build, this is a fandom made term, I think people forget that. It’s literally from a mix of 2016 reddit and a very very old Minecraft.net article that refers to them as “the builders” (+ game theory but that’s where matpat adopted the name from I’m pretty sure).
I generally avoid media where the Villagers/Illagers/Piglin are inherently stupid/aggressive or “acting purely on instinct” however you wanna interpret that. I think after a certain point it literally just turns into main character wish fulfillment. There are easy ways to balance things out and not fall down that path of lazy (and quite awful) writing.
your lore makes me respect the ancient builders theory 2% more than I used to (/not mean)
Hi Simon I don’t know why I’m answering this 8+ months late (I’m exploring the depths of my inbox because im terrible at responding to messages) But Yeah I like the AB theory but sometimes it definitely strays into Ancient Aliens territory. It bothers me when some theorists imply villagers can’t build (either intelligence wise or they straight up physically can’t?) or saying illagers didn’t build mansions or outposts when they clearly have a distinctive architectural style. I generally don’t enjoy the implication that a specific group of people is inherently stupid, superior or duplicitous. Illagers are not inherently evil, rather the system they live under is (much like real world colonialist empires, which I have drawn inspiration from.)

Artisan and Testificate skull shape comparison.
/
In other terms, Builder & V/Illager skulls because I’m taking Minecraft speculative biology way too seriously.
Side profiles of course, because you know me.
Lore:
Both are hominids but have split into two different species thousands of years ago, they share a common ancestor.
A lot of the bone structural changes were based on regional factors. Artisans have developed flatter noses as most lived in generally warm climates. Now obviously at the time they were an actual developed civilization the entire climatic conditions of earth were entirely different to how they are now, it was warmer in general, warm and oxygen rich enough to allow megafauna like the ancient sniffers to not only survive- but thrive. Testificates comparatively preferred colder climates, they only branched out to other regions after both were relatively established in their own right, based on the dating of artifacts that seem to imply (later) trade.
Artisans have little to no brow bone, as most biomes the largely nomadic race chose to settle in were relatively flat and therefore especially windy, lack of which which allowed the wind to flow over their face easier (also assumed to be the developmental reason for their overly frail figures). Desert and badlands biomes, which used to stretch far and wide, are also notoriously known for their dryness, which meant a brow bone, as well as eyebrows, were no longer needed (for the most part)
Their ears are set closer to the cranium, which also makes for a flatter skull shape, allowing harsh winds to pass through easier.
They have longer, and more curved calves, allowing a faster sprint and higher jump, especially across sandy - and rocky areas.
Now, I don’t mean to be religiously insensitive, but we have no idea when, how or why exactly they developed their ability to terraform nature and create, we can tell it came somewhen after the initial split, my guess, however insensitive, is that it was a genetic mutation that was proven as useful for travel, not a supernatural power given away by the creators of this realm. However, you are free to believe so if you wish, we sadly have little living examples to tell how exactly these mechanisms would’ve worked, as the only restorable accounts we have found have not been written by them. It’s up in the air. You choose what to believe. I’d doubt its very existence was it not for the Neo Artisans, though those may be outliers either way.
Both species are unisexual, and therefore share no sexual dimorphism, as they are inherently hermaphroditic, as is common for species of any genus originating from the overworld. Their species themselves however are distinct enough not to make for viable hybrid offspring.
Testificates developed a stronger brow, as they seemingly originated from the few snowy, mountainous and taiga biomes present around that time, where wind would’ve been blocked by the many trees, mountains, and spire formations that marked the region, snow and rain would’ve been common. It is why we developed to have more fat and muscle mass than most of the undead we see. They would’ve had to gather materials per hand, which as evident by the Neo Artisans, must’ve come a lot harder to them. This would’ve also helped keep warm throughout the day. We weren’t yet stationary then.
They have an elongated cranium to make room for the natural, further developed air filter between nose and mouth, which was most likely developed to filter diseases they were more susceptible to based on the colder climate, which also strengthened the immune system that would prove so necessary millennia later.
The smaller eye sockets would’ve made it easier to look through unfortunate weather conditions, especially coupled with the stronger brow, without damaging or hurting the eye itself.
The dire situation would’ve made them grow accustomed to an efficient routine that guaranteed the most plausible survival outcome, which we still see remnants of today.

The nameless one being sentient is so weird cuz like is it just him the implications are kind of insane I like to imagine that a lot of Undead mobs in Minecraft retain varying amounts of sentience like wither skeletons still guard Nether fortresses as opposed to wandering aimlessly

Another Minecraft Headcanon: Redstone powder smells like dust and ozone. Proximity to/touching redstone can cause hair to stand on end due to the energy emitted.
I present to you the image of redstoners with hair bedraggled and raised in odd angles as they gush over their latest contraption, not unlike that image of the man gesturing to his evidence board.

The Host Resolution
I think I will have to do some kind of lore dump soon, because some things have changed since the last time I did anything like that, particularly with the End and some of the history.

That's all, my loves! <3
P.S: So sorry for how long it's been since I worked on this again. I have been experiencing some rapid changes in art style, so I've been trying to settle in before making further updates. I am very pleased with this style so far, and plan to stick with it, as well as mixing it in with the style I used for the Champions. With luck and will, I should have more Auspice's art and lore Very Soon.

Hey! Reminder from somebody in the Minecraft fandom not to Tag your smp/unrelated oc content as Minecraft Lore, Minecraft Theory, or anything akin to that (Minecraft art, Minecraft fanart ect ect ect). It makes it extremely difficult to try and find content I and Most other people in the (Minecraft) fandom are looking for!
We don’t have a single Tag that’s left not spammed by this kind of content, which can be extremely annoying, there’s been so many popular Posts made by other people in the fandom about the smp community greatly overstepping their own space into ours but nothing seems to deter you guys from continueing. This isn’t meant in a rude way, at all, i think its Great how many different micro-fandoms Minecraft has, but please use Basic fandom etiquette and tag accordingly so we can all enjoy this Space together without needing to filter and block tags like many of my friends / mutuals have started doing.

Minecraft wither concept art redo, I’m still not happy with it, but it’s getting there,
I’ve always had such issues with drawing the wither, it’s such a goofy looking mob if you remove the threat of it all. Not that you’d realistically be seeing the entity itself anyways, as similar to a black hole it is usually surrounded by a cloud of smoke and debris.
Its body is inconsistent, it’s an ever changing amalgamation, corpses infected with the withering disease are dragged towards the spiritual gravitational center and rearranged to make for spare parts and “cannon fire”. Often they are veiled below a thin layer of “skin”. Heads are replaced, any body it is part of will be regurgitated and replaced by more victims.
Here’s one of my instagram story ramblings about the wither to go along with it.

I love this design so much
My take on a Minecraft Strider
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to think that the striders naturally evolve their necks to be longer so they can eat up higher and the whisker tendrils.. things could be used to communicate from long distances like bioluminescence for deep sea animals
These "reptiles" are not related to the Sniffer, my version of the fluffy mossy dinos are Overworld natives with some potential Nether relatives. The lava boats with legs are Nether natives with a bunch of species to fill out different niches
(Yeah, one of those speculative evolution guys, I liked the idea)
I like to think that different members of their species could go into many different niches as ambush predators being fully adapted to swim in the lava like a type of snapping turtle or crocodillamorph, active predators that hunt in and out of the lava, lazy scavengers that feed on the decay or already killed and eaten animals, herbivores that may graze on the land have very long necks like brontosaurus or well armored like ankylosaurs, and Hell, maybe if given a chance, some could take to the skies of the Nether.
I like to think that they produce a type of gas or liquid that instantly hardens when they make contact with lava which allows them to walk, but they aren't on top of the lava like Water Striders's it's their Zygodactyl feet(like parrot feet) underneath the lava where the gas or liquid allows the lava to harden so they can walk. As for the 4 smaller legs behind the main two leg still have a use for females they're used to carry their eggs. They'll probably only be able to carry one egg making them K-selective animals. Both parents can carry an egg between their smaller legs kind of like a Penguin on the way.
These Strider's are opportunistic omnivores/ fungivores. Their main diet is the fungus and Nylium grass around the Warped Forest(Warped Mushrooms, Warped Wart, and Shroomlights), but they won't pass on a chance to get some protein. If there's an opportunity for protein, they'll take it. They'll even chew on bones for calcium.
As to how they're still being used as transportation. I like to think since they're that big now 3 people can ride on them
Tumblr media
But you can also use them as transportation with items having two giant barrels on their back.
