Miriam Makeba, also known as "Mama Africa," was a renowned South African singer and civil rights activist. Born on March 4, 1932, in Johannesburg, she gained international fame for her unique blend of traditional African music, jazz, and pop.
In 1966, she became the first African artist to win a Grammy Award, alongside Harry Belafonte, for their album "An Evening with Belafonte/Makeba."
She died on November 9, 2008. Her legacy endures as a symbol of the struggle for freedom and equality. #Olwatuka #miriammakeba #southafrica
