Like Minds is like The Prestige, Jr. but somehow the junior version is much more intense and has blood and gore all over the place.
Cracks is more like Malena, Jr. or maybe if Doubt 2008 were about Anglican girls.
like minds (2006) and cracks (2009) are opposite ends of the same fucked up boarding school movies with homoeroticism spectrum
#Like Minds 2006#Cracks 2009#dark academia#The Prestige 2006#Malèna 2000#Doubt 2008#The Moth Diaries 2011 is more Like Minds 2005 but girls to me—#—but Cracks 2009 is a better movie than either Moth Diaries or Like Minds wow Cracks is a legitimate art flick in a league of its own#tackling VERY heavy subject matter and avoiding so many pitfalls of unfortunate implications or formulaic messaging in doing so#it doesn't try to leverage its aesthetics to dodge responsibility in what it's saying like Lolita 1997 did—#—Cracks is a beautiful movie but the work is also keenly conscientious about the mindset and relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns—#—in the story that it is showing.#to me Like Minds and The Moth Diaries sure can get analysis written up about them...#...but if audiences are there for something more Genre then that's cool too; occult detective mystery and vampires#i feel like i can't do that with Cracks...like it said everything it needed to say without any grandstanding about it or respite of optimis#Cracks 2009 is going to be the source of my essays brain rot i just know it#but Like Minds and The Moth Diaries is definitely more the memes and transformative works fandom activity source material#(all of this is only my personal opinion of course)#edit to add: i scrolled more down the tag and it turns out there is Cracks fic i retract all of the above tags#Cracks will still be a solely thinkpiece fandom to me though.#or aesthetics boards
